slinky you will be pleased to know normal Melbourne weather has resumed......damp and dismal!
I'm on Tuesday but a few extra Monday pleasures :
In my mail box....a $15 voucher card for supermarket, a $25 money off voucher for a local clothing store and a lovely hand written letter from my letter writing friend.
A lovely walk around the sports oval and beyond with my husband, beautiful sunset and loads of parrots0 -
Mhags, I think you must be going backwards
BoP - fetch
Sparrer, CCP - get well now
Tea lady - that's the line I would take with FN, but sis gives in to her Moaning
DD- the heartbreak diet works then? Not what you want I know
Chicken- your description of the pasta meal is definitely damning with faint praise. Sorry work is rough ATM
Ampersand - some very nice pictures there. I am having something arty for my SB (significant birthday) most of those are out of the price range though
Pleasures for today
1. Had a brill Idea for sisters and LNs (little niece and nephew) Christmas pressies. I am going to bu y them a weekend at our house. I will pay for the petrol / train ticket to get them here and then take them skiing/ tobogganing and maybe Cadbury world. Mr T vouchers can help. Good idea, no? FN can come if she wants, but might prefer the cash
2 finally finished nightmare marking :T. Loads more to do though
3 cleaner came. She had her work cut out today, given that there is a bed in the bathroom, furniture in other odd places, dust everywhere from sanding down the woodwork.
4 made chicken noodle soup - yum
5. Picked up some leaves as it is green bin day tomorrow
Nighty night allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Evening all.
Five, mostly foody, pleasures for Tuesday:
1. Yoghurt and the end of the Greek honey for breakfast.
2. Started to peg out washing this morning and a sheet of ice slid off the Rotaire roof. I'll need to put a hard hat on to peg out washing in the winter. :rotfl: Livened up the task no end.:D
3. Snuggled up with a cuppa and a fleece, knitting, listening to radio... lovely.
4. Remains of last night's supper warmed up and eaten with a posh salad for lunch. Looked and tasted lovely.
5. Pretty good tofu stirfry for supper. Managed to hide a dozen shredded brussels sprouts in it. I forgot to cancel the brussels in the veg box which arrived this morning (DSs don't like brussels) so my culinary challenge for this week is to hide about 90 million more sprouts in other dishes.
Get well soon and hugs to those with lurking lurgies.
Sweet dreams

Waves to Miss Slinky!
Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Sons enjoyed school today.
3) Went to Sainsburys for breakfast and shopping.
4) Charlotte cat getting better all the time and managed to get down stairs today.
5) Got our train tickets for London printed out at our most local station.
6) Went swimming with my brother.
7) Watched Holby City.0 -
tealady oo that sounds like my kinda recipe :-) - though i never met a red wine that i didnt like (to the tune of we are friends)
vjsmum i am a stress eater so heartbreak for me means putting on weight hence joining slimming club
1) found a fab poem on another thread so gonna ask you all to get an empty jam jar, put it on a window sill and every time something on this thread that causes a giggle (and there are plenty) pop it in the jar. Xmas eve put lid on, stick a label round it saying
'You say this jar is empty,
Well take another look!
This jar is filled with giggles,
In every little nook.
I put them there for you to save,
For when your life seems low.
So open up when times are sad,
And let my giggles flow'
2) remembered to put lunch pasta on in the evening. Bring to boil, switch off and in the morning it's cooked and ready to turn into pasta salad(alsofrom another thread on mse)
3) great lunch with best friend - lots of giggles. My turn to buy tea so not nsd but £1.70 for both didnt maketoo much of a dent. Fortunately canteen doesnt mind people bringing their own pasta salad
4) work train ticket bought for friday (newcastle leaving dundee 6:32ambleuh) and can break journey comin home at edinburgh no extra charge so free travel to see girls for weekend
5) xoh found 1980 bbc mini series of pride and prej on youtube so we spent evening watching first 3 episodes. I also knitted.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
25 for 25: 371 / 625
declutter: 173 / 2025
frogs eaten: 100 -
BoP you're just evil! I hope Mrs B taught you a lesson when she got home
A couple of quick add-ons
6. nsd/npd - does it count as a npd when I just reversed the car away from the side gate so I could get the bin out?
7. There's a sc full of curried parsnip soup, my own adaption of Jack's recipe, simmering away filling the house with the most delicious smell
Sweet dreams0 -
Good morning all !
BoP- I do hope that Mrs. Whack has returned ! btw what is "claw" lunch is it a buffet ?
VJsmum- thats a fantastic idea for a gift for your niece and nephew.I am sure that they will love it. If you knew what my job entailed there are very few joys by the nature of how the work comes in.
slinky - I am the opposite . I turn into an incontinent greyhound when stressed .Lots of sharp edges
Have a good day all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Hello from damp and dismal Melbourne ....but not boiling hot so that's a pleasure for me.
A mixture of pleasures today
Watching holby just an hour after it aired in UK..thankful to the kind people who upload programmes.
Making the 7 sponges for a rainbow cake! I think this wil be a one off as what a faff for a cake! But I had my UK radio on and it was cool enough to be baking.
Went out and about with DD1. It's her birthday tomorrow so bought a couple of things for that. Had some lunch in the food court and had a laugh which was nice.
Tried to go out and buy birthday balloons but she insisted on coming out with me again! Will buy one tomorrow .
Had my first mince pie of the season...and then my second
Went to library and borrowed a book by Susan Duncan. ampersand
recommended her books a couple of years ago...I was re- reading old posts yesterday and took a note of her name. Also picked up 3 free magazines to have a peruse of.
Was going to make soup for tea then realised I have plenty in the freezer which I'd like to empty before we come home on holiday. So that was a very easy tea.
Took a bag of stuff to charity bin.
vjsmum that sounds like a lovely gift for Christmas. We always had my niece and nephew to stay for holidays when they were younger. They are two of my favourite people!
sparrer glad you're feeling better. Being dizzy is just horrid.
slinky I like that poem
pirate Pete hope that raffles and Lady Bop are happily reunited and that you slept in the doghouse!
broomstick I did an audible gasp when I read about the ice on the Rotaire...that could have been nasty!
tealady I nodded in agreement as I read about your DD. My youngest is being a bit 'teenagy' and I hear me turning into MY mother ( heaven forbid!)as I say ' who do you think you're talking to?'
frith good news about Charlotte cat managing the stairs.
Vickyhopefully today is a better day at school.
skint what are santas beards? I had to pay $220 for a prescription today for OH! So good old NHS! Luckily we will be able to claim the money back but yikes at having to pay in the first place!
CCP Hope you feel a bit brighter today.
everyone else have a lovely day0 -
Your kind thoughts for the currant Ms Whack are so nice, that I had to let her back in! I thinks she is a tad upset because Raffles has gotten the run around her already and he has hardly been here two days. Still he is at the Vets on soon for his boosters. I did like the one, FETCH! Yep, here kitty, kitty, kitty!
I see the torches are being lit as I read this very morning of the school windows.
5 Mariners, yes DD, Mariners are still in the Tin Pot competition.
4 Long day yesterday, so bit wreckeded. Shoulder hurts etc. Still, no telling Ms BoP now.
3 Bit offs a struggle last night at Scrabble. Ms BoP won. Think her out looking for our Lion must have given her some impetus! I’ll make sure it does not happen again and again. Mind yous, I was well wobbleaded!
2 New place is going ok, but the canteen is being refurbed. Tea is going up to 60p ugh. Why do some companies feel the need to not ftheir workers, yet others do!
1 We cannot correct the past, it occurred in its own place.
Gylberdyke, City of Sulphur! A tributary, minor one at that, gets some council tax payer fuelled junket for civil servants. I say dynamite the bridge and stop them coming south. Or as Granddad used to say, Kins Ton Upon ‘Ull
Oh. and cats love marmite, and tomato juice!0 -
Chickenopolis - I do hope it's my spelling, or the Inner Toddler grabbing the keyboard that make you laugh... Staff in tears & you bring help - that's our Chicken! You see your chickens as I see my lads - by artificial light (unless I take flexi.)
ampersand - ISIHAC is one of life's special pleasures.
mhagster - your living very quietly still reads as a wonderful warm, loving, happy family time. (Although I did wonder if DD1 cleaned the pan.) Covet the real paper post, and the parrots & sunset! Seven sponges? Your lucky, lucky daughter! A $220 precription - OWCH!
tessie bear - did the wind dry the clothes before the temperature refrigerate them?
DD - I run away from mittens because you have To Do Things - yeay for fingerless gloves which are a square with two short seams... Pakistan sweeties in the same post as Miss Slinky! Atta girl getting to Edinburgh on work ticket - have a great time with the girls!
sparrer - hurrah for mixed grill & till spit (I had to spend £20 to get mine, but had an almost empty tank awaiting it....) Why read 50? Even I've refused to! Hurrah for mutt & mog keeping you warm - I use sons, so tea is managable! You tell BoP...
CCP - sorry to hear you're not better, delighted to hear your manager realises it!
Skint yet Again - last I was in their tender care, I realised all physios are direct descendants of Torquemada... Hot bath best way to recover!
VickyA - challenging children, presuming you all survive, can be amongst the most rewarding. In the short term though, Herod seems right & tears therefore compeltely reasonable. Hurrah homemade homegrown carrot soup!
BoP - you & Raffles are tinkers in harmony. Someone rescue Ms BoP! I do hope the thrashing at Scabble came after she'd had that unsought fresh air & exercise. Will try next door's cat on Marmite.
Tealady - score keeper definitely risky. Wrapping & posting & it's before December?! <awe>
VJsmum - brilliant present idea - soemthing to look forward to & handy for sibling crowd control (I'm big on If..THEN...ELSE)
Broomstick - laundry in hard hat? *over* warm woolly one! All advice on sneaking sprouts eagerly welcome as my lot are prfoundly awkward about them. (I usually wait til they have streaming colds & do a green chili soup. They don't realise the green is sprouts unless they check the bin!)
Frith - hurrah for a good day & Charlotte recovering!
Yesterdays OS Pleasures
Saw slightly waning full moon illuminating snowed front garden/herb patch. Beautiful! (Car much less so.)
Heard new Robbie Williams song Go Gentle - it sounds like he's as besotted and anxious a father as any good dad, just more melodious. (I used to sneer, then saw him do Suspicious Minds with Jools Holland's band. Who do *not* carry passengers, so I began listening.)
Watching assorted heads jerk as the fire alarm test blasts out. They weren't asleep but if you tune the yatter out, you miss the warning...
Riffled through the probably-empty wallet, hoping I was wrong & found a billet-doux from husband! Not something I can use in the chocolate machine but delightful surprise. (If he teaches that to the lads, they'll become dangerous young men. Charmers who can cook, cooperate & leave you speechless... )
Tailor spoke to me! In so far as "Hallo" counts - we were headed through dark & wet & thus stuck to conversational classics like the weather. He wears a flat cap, out - amidst all the natty tailoring I suppose I thought he'd wear something a little sharper.
Today
Running a good hour late (sneaky Sainburys voucher) but carpark just as empty - must be the met forecast scaring people off!
Can't take it any longer - off to Messers W to see if coffee machine fixed. (Perfect world they'd do hit chocolate as well... But hurrah for what we've got.)
Colleague shared an outtake "shop was !!!!!!" - turns out to be a typo - it was Shut...
Monty Python to re-form, briefly. (Ticket prices likely to match the Rolling Stones.) I love their oeuvre, but may be (just) young enough to feel I don't Have to catch this show. If Prof.Lehrer were to change his mind, I'd sell a kidney...
Found a mug withthe Bovril ad on marked down in Sainsb - perfect for youngest who thinks the stuff is miraculous & may even fit into a stocking!
Big hugs to all who need them, Patent Restorative Nostrum (well rubbed in, now) to all suffering and all the best of luck to all reading.0
