5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Well, hello, Raffles!
Here are my pleasures for today:
1) A lie in!
2) School friend invited me to lunch with her parents. Took them a jar of crab apple jelly (only made last night!) and had roast chicken, salads etc there.
3) School friend back here for tea (far less impressive egg and soldiers).
4) Sons back from their father's and quite happy.
5) Just had a tidy round and put the bread machine on so feel quite organised.
6) Smallest cat recovering well. She will walk a little bit but can't manage a single step. They all need worming but don't want to do that when she has recently had antibiotics.
7) Off to bed in a minute and will listen to the Archers.0 -
See if I can rustle up 5 for today. Girls school fees came in today for 2014 and as usual they horrify me. This is state school but we have 'voluntary' fees, each class has course fees, DD1 has a compulsory camp to go on and so it goes on. Some books will be able to be bought second hand/ swapped but quite a few are 2014 editions so have to be bought new ...at $90 a time.
Anyway....
Sun was shining.
Birds were singing.
Washing and more washing done and ironed
Bathrooms cleaned and kitchen cleaned...again!
Made a nice beef curry in the slow cooker with rtc beef.
Very nice handyman turned up to do some repairs around the outside of house.
Have a lovely day0 -
Just some big comfort hugs mhags - and another good dose of Julian of Norwich...“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.'
Good morning Miss Charlotte.
Good morning Ms Isis.
Good morning Raffles - have been enjoying, as always, your exploits on r4extra:

Beard hugs all round to those that need them. Yes, he does have a presence! catch up later with the wireless link &
5 Raffles has sittled in. Well, cats do not settle straight away, so he has hidden cat syndrome. You know, find me if you can. Pops out for his food and sits and smiles away. Be a while before he gets the yard. He is a bit of a head nudger for fuss though. And he is ginormous. In fact he is hugemengeous!
4 There’ll be trouble on the street when he finally makes an appearance. Think pickles may have overstayed his presence up our end.
3 He is a climber as well. Managed to get on the pink table in the spare bedroom. Last cat could not use his legs to jump at all!
2 Will be tested on marmite this evening. All cats love marmite. And water. Never give a cat milk, as they cannot digest it.
1 You can not own a cat, they own you!0 -
A small collection:
1. Unexpected night out on Saturday, when Dr C., knowing my love of Irish music, insisted I join him for a pub evening of this with his two friends - a lovely couple who are much nearer my age than his.
The band did a lot of Pogues covers (very well) as well as familiar and less familiar songs by others. There wasn't anything I'd never heard, but there were a few I've never heard sung live.
2. Managing the meals so that food waste was minimal, Dr C. is a little mercurial in his tastes so this isn't always easy. White rice is now OK again, apparently, as we are eating very few potatoes thanks to his food rules . Luckily, he informed me of this before I stumped up nearly a fiver for brown Basmati in Mr T's. I like brown rice more than I used to but eating it can be heavy going and I long for light, fluffy white Basmati, which is such a bargain in A!di.
3. Used up a L*sh solid shampoo today that I have had for 2 years, it got a lot of uses in that time but seemed to be going on forever. I'd have probably had another month's worth but the tin got 'accidentally' left where it filled with water from the shower.
4. Shifted the only debt I have, other than a small mortgage - a credit card that paid for much needed windows and door and a massive unexpected tax bill when I got things wrong a couple of years ago. I hate using credit but this is now on an interest -free deal for 2 years, from a 1 year deal that is due to expire.
5. Caught most of the racing on TV over weekend, some results I enjoyed too. DSis rang and after a long chat was in a better mood than when she called. Result.
6. DGS is now 11 and loved his present - video game that wasn't cheap. He is a keen reader too, he often has books from me as gifts.
I left it too late to see Raffles, he appears to be off the site? No worries, I am sure he will appear again in other shots.
May he settle in quickly and well.
Another small OS feline pleasure; free cat treats in the post, destined for friends' cat.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Aaa... choo. Excuse me.
Don't worry, Vicky - I know who I caught this from and it wasn't you!
BoP - very glad to hear that the lovely Raffles is home and settling in already.
1) Opened one of my jars of mouldy HM jam and, as promised by the nice people on the OS board, it's fine once you've removed the top layer.
2) Went into work for long enough to get a few things done and for a former manager to kindly agree to act as a referee on my job application.
3) Then got fed up with people telling me that I really wasn't looking well and took their advice to come home, where I was greeted with the biggest purr I've yet heard from Isis.
4) Managed to finish off most of the job application (in between sneezes and snuffles) - I've just got to do the 'why I want the job' bit tomorrow and I'm all done. :j
5) Ooh look - I've got a badge!Back after a very long break!0 -
I have been lick tested. Approved. Raffles takes up the two seat settee. Has paws like spades. Is eating, mand lapping his water up.
Will photo him later, I don't want to use the flash.
Oh and he leaps a good 6 foot, from side chair, to other side of settee.0 -
Good evening all !
BoP - you love him alreadyAre you sure its not Frankie Dettori in a cat onesie ??
5 for today
1. Colleague brought in some beetroot , peppers and chilli peppers from her allotment.
2. Work ok until almost home time and then the brown stuff did hit the fan . No managers in sight as per. when you need them.
3. Got home late as the usual route for many has a diversion for a week due to roadworks . Terrier shaped silhouette was waiting for me behind the curtain and had been there since 2.45pm apparently. I am home around 4.15pm on a non shtf day.She needs a watch.
4. Veg , pasta and pesto for tea.
5.Hens locked in safely by DM .I did a "head count" and they were all there.
Have a good evening all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Evening all, last week of hellish timetable:T (famous last words
)
vickyA I like Leicester , it has my most favouritist vegetarian restaurant there
Chicken, hope things with the OH have resolved themselves
CCP, get well soon
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Nice lazy morning with lovely sis. Saw FN, who won't be for much longer if she keeps giving her mother the grief she is giving her currently. How do you keep a teenager who isn't yours on the rails?
2 my littlest nephew, who has been a PITA for a lot of the time, was also lovely yesterday. He has come on in leaps and bounds since I last saw him
3. Journeys were actually OK, despite railway being up the spout and nice man at Victoria gave me the discount rate on my tube ticket, despite me not having the correct document
4. Home, homey home - and OH has nearly finished decorating the spare room
5 got quite a lot of my marking done
And for today
1. Last full Monday for aaaaages - hopefully nearly a year. Hoping to be a lady wot lunches next Mon
2. Journeys were ok
3 wore my new coat which gained compliments
4 yummy ald! Filled pasta for tea
5 OH doing the last of the gloss. Got to get some stuff to fumigate the room to ensure blasted moth has gone, then order new carpet. We have decided that curtains and bedding can stay as the colour scheme still matches and silly to buy new just for the sake of it, given that it is the spare room
Have a good eveningI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
bop - be careful you and Good Lady samename do as told from now on. Lick your own marmite. Up the insurance on domestic chattels. Increase 3rd party Grievous Bodily Charm cover, pending Repel All Boarders op.s against Pickles et al.
Raffles, we will now turn to you for yellow thing.
1. Innards of gate Yale lock fell out in my hand but holding repair seems to be doing just that atm. Will replace on Ancience discount day i.e. Homebase demain, after auction, or B&Q Wed, after Spits prep.
2. College Salon=not even one, let alone 50 Shades of...and my red hank remains.
3. Concentrated on Rowleys catalogue, doing notes and online research via android phone during...
4. Then straight to Tattersalls. Chicken, you and terrier would have been much welcomed:
wondered if? http://www.catalogue-host.co.uk/rowley/newmarket/2013-11-19/lot_835?prev_page=browse%20by%20section%2c%20page%203%20of%204&prev_url=%2frowley%2fnewmarket%2f2013-11-19%2fcategory_7_page_3
Lovely viewing, some surprising greetings, acquaintances renewed, a few Lots speccied up, however unlikely for Member of the Precariat. Have eye on 2 things particularly, poss 4, if no-one else bids above 2/11d. 'No more phones' said E at one point 'All booked for the whole day' and later, W, to a local: 'The Chinese boys are coming...in numbers. Helicopter clearance came through.'
On verra.
5. I'm just about booking another cross-Channel day. Thankyou Martin for heads-up -P&O'Free' £24 of wine with P&O £25 Dover-Calais day rtn*
Enter the code online and show your voucher to ferry shop staff
Dover-Calais
You can get six 'free' bottles of wine (usually £4 each) when you book a Dover to Calais day return for a car and up to nine people on Sun-Fri from £25 (from £30 on Saturdays) via P&O Ferries*.
Here's how:
When booking, the code winterwine should appear in the promotional code box (you can add yourself if not done automatically).
You can mix and match bottles of red, white or ros! Piat D'or.
To get them, show your voucher (issued at check-in) to the ferry shop staff on the outward (Dover to Calais) journey only.
You have to book by Mon 2 Dec but trips can be made till Fri 13 Dec.
Car day returns start from £25 (£30 on Saturdays), so you could pay more, but P&O says there's good availability for these fares.
Extra charges warning
You'll be charged £4 to book with a credit card, but there’s no debit card fee.
You can also book by phone on 08716 64 20 20 but there's an extra £5 fee.
Timing it for a Sunday vide-grenier, having spoken avec organisateur d'abord, bien sûr:-)
