.....and there's this in my Fitzwilliam Museum news tonight[along with appt conf. for Tues, with Coins and Medals man and Dr Lin again, re: 2 more objêts trouv!s]:
'Edmund de Waal
On White: Porcelain Stories from the Fitzwilliam
Fri 29 November 2013 to Sun 23 February 2014
At the end of November three galleries of the Museum will be taken over by renowned potter, and Cambridge graduate, Edmund de Waal. The re-curated spaces feature objects from de Waal’s residency in China last summer, pieces from the museum’s permanent collection, poetry, photographs and letters. Highlights include two major installations. The first of these, 'a thousand hours', is one of de Waal’s most ambitious to date and was the centrepiece of a major exhibition at the Alan Cristea Gallery in London. The work comprises 1,000 pots encased in two large walk-through vitrines. A second 'yourself, you' has been specially commissioned for this show.'

Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Surprised to get sons to school after finding the cereal all gone, second choice of cereal had gone damp, smaller son hadn't finished his spellings then, as we got in the car, realised smaller son had scootered off into the distance...
3) Spent the day helping aunty get some paperwork in order. I can never believe what some people keep. :-S We did 2 large carrier bags full of bills and statements. I was barely allowed to throw anything away. These were the 2007 papers....... Presumably years 2008-2012 are waiting for another day! Uncle had another mini stroke last Sunday. It always takes him a week or 2 to get his speech back so he was hard to understand today but still chatty.
4) Went swimming with sons and my brother.
5) Pasta for tea then apple and blackberry crumble.
6) Smaller son very happy this evening watching middle aged men on Youtube show off their Hornby railway sets.
7) Watched HIGNFY. Must remember - if we think things can't get any worse - we could be Godfrey Bloom! What a wally.0 -
dfv the older montalbano. Though the ever dishy jack davenport in breathless is also a good drool :-)
Prayers here in scottieland for mhags mum
1 lovely train journey down to edinburgh this morning. Knitted some poppies from wool stash
2) explained financial constraints to dd2 and she was more than happy for me to buy a pizza in mr t (with voucher) and go back to her flat. Reverbed 6p
3) ditto dd1 and we had curry from scotmed and cider. Reverbed another 5p
4) with dd1 had whole evening so we watched 2 dvds - the fantastic mr fox and thoroughly modern millie. A thoroughly enjoyable evening for under a tenner :-)
5) dd2 has guest room with double bed so i now have a free bolt hole in edinburgh. She even has a spare set of keys and it's really close to waverley. Next time will be better prepared and book on trainline in good time.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

1. A random 20% off code at M&S meant I could finally justify a pair of work trouser and ahem cough cough a long jumper.:o:o
2. Hot relaxing soak
3. I’ve invoked the legal expenses on the insurers, they have been so useless it’s a pleasure to take some action on it.
4. We visited the local lidl, and was totally suckered in by a few opening offers, and £5 off coupons.:p
5. Stopped in at the wonderful local Chinese takeaway for a treat dinner tonight, lovely treat:cool:
6. Planning a massive tidy out of my stuff long overdue and lots of holey past it things, that I seem to have to hold on to:o0 -
Not long back and looking forward to sleep so a quick one for now and will read through properly tomorrow

1 - 5 covers a super convention/holiday, met some people I first saw in Kerala and two couples who were in Oban when I was there earlier this year. Wherever there's a convention in the world there's at least one person I've met before. Spent the last three days touring north and south, plus a day in Gozo reacquainting myself, and introducing my friend to, many of the places I first went to 20+ years ago. Very good hotel with shops, spa, three pools, three restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream parlour etc., and the next door hotel has a super little cafe with the best selection cream cakes anywhere - perfect for afternoon tea.
The heat or eat choice is a no-brainer now I'm back, I won't be cold for anything and I've had more than my fair share of food so I need to eat less for the next few weeks anyway. All in all a very successful week, just wish we were still walking about in short-sleeved tee's and dresses!
Sweet dreams0 -
Welcome back, sparrer:-)
Having apologised last night for bolt-ons, here's another from the NEWSPAPER SUMMARY Thread, which I always check on the one day I buy a paper. In years past, the Torygraph has had £5 nqs Body Shop vouchers. maybe qtrly, not this year so far, but I keep checking....

Morning all from the dank and murky Midlands
OH gone to his mother's for the day, DD off to her drama class shortly, DS in bed and then off to the footie later so, apart from feeding people and nagging them about the time, I have a day to catch up with "stuff" - bit of marking, bit of leaf gathering, take the mouldy grapes back to Aldi, trip to BQ as we need to decorate the spare room - the dreaded carpet moth came back so we've decided to get rid, decorate and lay new. Oh I do lead an exciting life
WElcome back, Sparra - glad you had a good time but it is rather selfish of you to leave the sun there and not bring it back with you
good news on the Bursary Kittikins
Good wishes to Mhags' mum, Frith's uncle and mum, and PK for that nasty coughand anyone I've forgotten
So, when was I last here - Wednesday?
Pleasures for THursday
1. Day off :T And I took a day off - well mostly. Started with a swim after dropping DD off at school. Haven't been proper swimming in ages - managed 34 lengths, albeit slowly. I aim to go once a week from now on.
2. Did the shopping - got everything at Aldi this week (including mouldy grapes  I should know better as they have often been iffy but last weeks were so nice). And a visit to my favourite friendly butchers.
3. An afternoon of kitchen pottering - my favourite thing to do. Made 7 jars of marmalade (from a tin - can't be doing cutting up all those marms, but it is still nicer and cheaper than all but the most expensive shop bought), a lemon drizzle, a banana bread, some homemade burgers for kids tea and whatever it was we had for ours. oh and a "buddy burner" for emergencies (cardboard coiled up inside a tuna tin, melted candle wax poured on - anyone from the SHTF thread will know it)
4. We actually managed a "family meal" - I have always been such a stickler for us all eating together, no telly, round a table. It has always been a good opportunity for us to have some time together as a family, talk about our days etc. When people remark how well spoken our kids are I put it down to the fact that we have always done this. Regrettably these opportunities are few and far between at the moment as the kids activities have stepped up, DD is working or either OH or I are out or late back. This was the first one we've managed in over a week
5. Unfortunately an afternoon in the kitchen meant an evening preparing lectures. Luckily a flash of inspiration and a bit of googling and I pulled something out of the ever diminishing bag. I got to bed at 11 and remembered that I hadn't prepped for another lecture - completely forgot about it
And for Friday
1. Good drive into work - no idea where all the traffic was but it wasn't going to Birmingham for once.
2. My Friday from hell was not quite so hellish. Last night's prep stood me in good stead and my forgotten lecture group had an impromptu "lets get you started on your assignment" session.
3. Buffet lunch provided by the Uni - actually edible for once. Met with a colleague from an overseas partnership university who was also in my afternoon lecture slot - but he isn't an academic so had no idea whether I was making sense or not.
4. OH cooked sausage beans and jackets for tea - good winter food.
5. Went to aquarobics with DD - she had had to work at the pool anyway so we went afterwards. I hate going but always enjoy it and feel good afterwards - pool was flipping cold though.
Have a lovely Saturday all - I ,may take the kids to the pub for tea.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
