Thank you all for the lovely warm welcome home
No BoP sadly winter isn't over, just some of us have to come back to keep the home fires burning - and burning they are, only just beginning to thaw out!
DfV forgot to thank you for the mention of floradix, tried feSO4 and will be looking into your preference asap!
1. nsd/npd
2. Ironing all done
3. Little White Pet patio rose is a mass of blooms
4. Warm and cosy with a reading lamp and two candles burning
5. Spent the evening as usual at this time, watching the Festival of Remembrance. A very lump in throat moment when the girl group The Poppies, who are all daughters of service personnel, finished their set and the youngest was told her father wasn't overseas after all but had been flown home to watch her sing. I hope she never looks back and feels embarrassed at running across the Royal Albert Hall to her father with the Royal Family, and thousands of others, watching, it was such a beautiful, natural reaction on her part.
Sweet dreams0 -
CCP - hotdog pasta? I do hotdog rice... Lovely simple filling food! Dead right to grouse a bit about being omitted from a decision on your patch! Asda pizzas are my lifeline when the lads want spoiling & the budget disagrees! Hurrah for a happy Isis while you stay warm & snug under covers!
Broomstick - don't let anyone tell you rose hip syrup tastes *nice* - sweet, yes, but something of an acquired taste. Terribly Good for you though, or we'd have composted it in the war. One busy Saturday - enjoy feet up & hot water bottle!
lovefullshelves - "sometimes the fairy just gets so tired" - darn tootin! All family memebers, starting with children but definitely including any significant others, can be Trained... Sleep deep, awake refreshed & dust off the bentwood chair.
ampersand - grinning at you on the razzle in TKMaxx... Stunned into an admiring heap by the Abassid poets! *Why* is it not 'stadia'?
kittikins - tooth fairy hard at it, eh? Stick with the card tricks - more fun & a wonderful portable startling reward for a good class... Well done getting better enough to enjoy fireworks!
Frith - rough start to the day, but hurrah uncle recovering speech again & you doing heroic work with vintage bank statements! There are YouTubes of Hornby? <wicked grin at small child's sleeping form> Such a pity only the middleaged men can afford the small boy pleasures, but do recall one store had a special Christmas layout, where youth had the edge as could see it all splendidly at their height & could wriggle in front.... Happy times! Hug children anyway - fool man at steam museum the proper target for your ire. Isn't it great when someone else shares silly money's worth of fireworks?!
DD - the Older Montalbano it will be then - cheers! Good for you teaching the young about canny shopping, and for intelligent scheming how best to make use of your Edinburgh pied a terre! You're a Mary QoS fan? or more a Dorothy Dunnett fan?
Purple kitten - when long held onto stuff can be replaced with a 20% off M&S Code, it isn't random, it's Fate being nice. Seize the moment! Bags fill when you realise how much you want the space...
sparrer - welcome home! (Less of this heat *or* heat - buttered pasta is warming & filling & cheap & yet tastes glorious - the odd vegetable and clove of garlic & it becomes better still...)
BoP - grilled snorkers are splendid! (The frying pan keeps trying to bite me.) Love how your house smells...
VJsmum - wet your way too? Oh good. I was getting a touch downhearted at all this drying on lines. 34 lengths?! <shock & awe> We did buddy burners with Scouts a few weeks back - not just SHTF stuff!
bagpuss - canteen? <covet!> Star Wars! Yeay! *Years* fell off me watching it, remastered or not!
lisakay - a good party & thanks from hosts for lovely manners?! You wonder! Roast veg soup - I must stop drooling & get the oven on! (saw this & wondered who might be interested http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bargain-Lovely-Flattie-Barbie-Outfits/dp/B00AAWSUL4/ref=aag_m_pw_dp?ie=UTF8&m=A7I4WF8G5FG6P - hope these might inspire outfits?!)
Today's OS Pleasures
Tesco being unexpectedly utterly sweet about me buying the Wrong Sort of phone topup code & thus not managing to sort Himself's phone. (Amazed at the number of hopefuls buying lotto etc & the smokers! My inner MS Puritan is bemused.)
Boys moving ornamental garden slabs for Nan - in the rain! Happy, muddy, messy lads.
Ambled into an episode of Teen Wolf - very pretty young men! Boys not as interested - will await return of Game of Thrones...
Chortling somewhat at spectacle of spouse & son dressed but without (cold wet muddy) trousers.... They've good legs, but bare. The slightly pained looks as I ripple with laughter just makes me laugh harder.
All my recent MSE reading meant that when my sister approached me for the Right Stilton for Dad (we're going halves on a stilton & port hamper), I could recall the weblink to the blind tasting by Good Housekeeping & she was almost headed for Sainsburys forthwith! Calling me all sorts of nice names, which were very nice despite being largely undeserved.
Big hugs to all who needs them & warm, clean, dry clothing likewise!0 -
dig for victory, the thanks were for the presents
my girls (almost) always have lovely manners while they're in company (the same can't always be said at home, mind you!)
and thanks for the link, will have a look x
the soup was very very easy to do, roasted 1/2 butternut squash, 2 onions, a parsnip, sweet potato and normal potato and garlic in olive oil and balsamic vinegar then blended with veg stock.freecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -
From my phone :
sparrer's back hurrah! I like it when we are 'all ' here to post our pleasures !
Weekend pleasures:
Saturday scone
Coat and boots on as 'twas chilly
Macaroni cheese with some bacon for tea. Carrot and coriander soup for the non macaroni eaters... Leftovers for lunch today.
Instead of breakfast out this morning ( major economising) I made OH his eggs Benedict , then we went a longish walk.
Whilst out we witnessed a commotion in the air above us... 2 raptors ( not sure what they were) being chased by crows and the very territorial minah birds.
Went to cinema to see 'The Butler' another excellent film and we used our vouchers so no cost. There had been nothing on at cinema that we've wanted to see in ages.
Lots of phone calls with family over weekend and chatted to my mum this morning. She will be in hospital for a few more days but worst part over I think.
Have started a rather good book , so feet up on sofa , tucked up under a blanket and enjoying reading.
Have a lovely Sunday ....off to make dinner.0 -
Morning all
mhags Thank you. I know just what you mean, couldn't wait to get back and into the thread!
Just a quickie before going to the village service then on to my usual Sunday lunchtime meeting and meal.
Remembering not only those who gave their lives but all the men and women who 'did their bit' whether in the fields, as medics, the underground etc., many of whom gave their bodies, their mental and physical health, for us.
In particular my thanks are for my father, a member of the Glider Pilot Regiment who flew and was shot down over Arnhem, and my step father, who signed up at 15 and was part of the Invasion of Italy. Pleased to say both came home safely thanks to the German and Italian underground.
Thank you to them all.
Have a sunny day enjoying your freedom0 -
Morning all
Supposed to be working but am so, so tired of it now. chants "2moreweeks2moreweeks2moreweeks"
Where's chicken?
Bagpuss - Lolling at the idea of Cartoon feet.:rotfl: Poor you, hope they've recovered
BoP - thanks for the reminder, must shop for chrimbo cake ingredients. I always make one for us and one for dad so I'd best get cracking.
CCP - I rather like listening to the rain too. Especially in the caravan - as long as it stops at some point
PK - your OH is good being able to jazz up CoL, we have to pay people for that sort of thing. Where is first outing to? A few years ago we spent Christmas in it, (it was when mum was very ill and we thought it might be her last Christmas (it was) so we went down to spend it with her, but without putting her out, so to speak). It was actually really nice and we would definitely do it again - probably after the kids don't come home any more.
Broomstick - wraps sound yummy. I should pull my finger out and do more adventurous things like that. The kids are really boring though, DS has chicken sandwiches and DD tuna - EVERY DAY. They moan if they get something else.
DD - your DD day sounds really nice. Got to be better than marking and lesson prep
Lisakay - you make me feel old talking about Barbies your mum played with
Yay to Kittikins feeling better :T
Ampersand - rugby sounds fab. Can you speak now or are you feeling un petit cheval?;)
Frith - miserable old codger at steam train cafe - trying to work out which one it is, I've been to them all you know
Sparrer - My OH was talking about the little Poppy Girl, saying it was a bit "Jeremy Kyle". I hadn't seen it, but just have - rather touching I thought.
DforV - "tescos" and "sweet" in the same sentence is surely a ... what is it.. a .... oh what's the word? Got it! An Oxymoron
Glad your mum is on the mend Mhags
For yesterday
1. More work  Slowly, slowly catching up. Not really a pleasure except that I am catching up
2. Did give myself an hour in the bath to help Katniss win the hunger games (love children's books, me) only for it to not really finish, despite being the end of the book ....
3. OH, DD and DS were all out so at least I was left in peace to do stuff. Spent a pleasant hour leaf gathering in the garden. One green bin filled for this fortnight. THe other can be filled today.
4. Kids came back and we went to the pub for tea. DS tipped his plate off the table and was covered in ham, egg and chips :rotfl: Luckily he wasn't as furious as I thought he'd be and laughed. Cos the meal was only £4 I bought him another. If it had been £15 he'd have been eating it off the floor
5. OH came back from house hunting with his mother, and approves of a little bungalow in a "retirement estate". Everything we wanted for her really - entertainment if she wants it, warden, but her own space and her own garden. Fingers crossed it all goes through.
Have a lovely day all - working and have to clear the spare room of its furniture.
RIP Private Charles Leonard Sellen, Killed in Action, Poperinghe 1917 aged 20 (Great Uncle Charlie)I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
In our house, I wear the Apron. Got it?
And you nose I am impartial to a couple of decent Tarts!!!
Eat your harts out.
Oh and the Chrimbo Cake, please be warned it is naked
Anyone else got pleasures to beat that?
5 Dippy Egg start, with new seeded and crudded Raspberry Jam on toast.
4 It is either raining or brilliant sunshine. medal polished. Right breasted!
3 Fraid I cannot beat a colleagues collection of decorations!
2 Film nite last eve. A western with James Coburn. Waterhole 13.

Not really, no!
1) NSD and NPD.
2) Yellow stuff - thanks for finding the time to switch it on between all that cooking, BoP!
3) Isis hurling her toy mouse around the flat in a desperate attempt to distract me from talking on the phone to my DM. :rotfl:
4) Started filling in an application form for an interesting-sounding job, although the form itself is most definitely not a pleasure, being ridiculously long and complicated: not only do you have to say why you're right for the job, you also have to explain, in detail, how you meet every aspect of the job description and person specification. The only person I feel more sorry for is whoever has to read that lot!
5) Roast pork for dinner tonight. :drool:Back after a very long break!0 -
lisakay - I'll get veg roasting before the week is out! My lot behave beautifully out (we get folk stopping & telling us!) & I blame their father, who's the stay at home parent!
mhagster - macaroni cheese with bacon is one of my favourite foods. Not figured how to make it last two meals...
sparrer - been stood with the Scouts as we remembered folks - those who didn't make it back, those who did & those still out there...
VJsmum - I'm a fan if Katniss too! I scoop up libraries of stuff for the kindle & enjoy the YA stuff almost as much as the classic murders. (Share the "eh?" over Tesco! Still in shock...)
BoP - love the pinny, and can almost smell that cake...!
CCP - all the best with that form....
OS Pleasures
Remembered my Asda vouchers! Cheap shop anyway but good to remember.
Car boot militaria stall had some lovely bits & pieces - husband & trader both happy men...
Sons doing household chores with remarkably little bickering. One, clearing his bedroom, wearing a Yank helmet as he plies the Hoover...
Remembrance parade this afternoon - two lads turned out all proper & respectful. Other folks marched, or were pushed in wheelchairs - our scouts paraded.
Lads almost in tears of laughter as I put my key in, twist & the key broke in the lock... Happily I was was able to get the bit of key out (yeay leatherman!)- but I'll be using the Floral Key Of Shame for a bit. (I got it to stop the lads loosing theirs & It Works!)
RIP Private Thomas Ready, died of wounds, Italy.
Big hugs to all who need them & big thanks to all who gave us our todays.0 -
