5 for today, if I can!
1) Getting the boys to school early (we are usually right on the bell!)
2) Getting through my college assessment. We have to do 3 hours of counselling altogether so I did 20 minutes today first as the observer, then the helper, then the talker.
3) Quick trip to Sainsburys, was getting desparate!
4) Did a roast chicken dinner.
5) Listening to the boys making up a game using old cassette tapes tied up with string that became puppets (Fred and Bill!)
That's about it. Looking forward to this week being over, all things considered...

oooh... I have loads of phones (broken) knocking about... where do I need to send them?
There's lots of companies that do this - there's a comparison tool http://mobilevaluer.com/ that allows you to check which one pays best for the phones you've got (it's an MSE tool so I'm guessing it's pretty reliable). Last time I did this I used Moplay - they paid very quickly but pestered me with emails for months afterwards, which always annoys me.Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening all! My 5 for today:
1. Yummy chickpea and mushroom curry (homemade of course!) for tea.
2. A stonking 4,100 words achieved on my latest short story - it's steaming ahead! And my head is buzzing with it!
3. This may sound a bit petty and it's certainly months in advance, but I typed out my work resignation letter. I'm not leaving until the end of September, but it gave me a little bit of inner satisfaction to know it's done.
4. New season NCIS on TV tonight.
5. Finishing the last of my yummy lentil pate for lunch. I'll be making that again very soon.
See you all tomorrow!Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Evening all
Ollie Yes spring is in the air here. He was a lovely boyfriend but unfortunately my career at the time took me all over the world and for long stretches at a time so it wasn't really workable.....I'll keep you all posted as to how it progresses
Sparrer That's the spirit girl....don't let them bring you down. I'm glad to hear you're looking into some precautionary measures though. Very wise.
Mine for today:
1) Lots of texts from the 10 year ex
2) Staying calm and collected while all hell broke loose around me
3) S&G stuff from boots (1/3 off offer on here)
4) Getting my shopping done whilst out visiting our logistics people
5) The adopted cockerel running to see me as soon as I pulled into the drive way
6) Hopped on the scales and I've lost 5lbs in the last two weeks. Not too sure where or how though . Certainly not complaining
7) Realising that my daffs are coming through in the front garden
8) The lovely bath I'm about to go and have
Have a good evening all. Take care
CAs my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
Evening everyone,
Ladyhawk - When we are posting things for ebay we weigh them on the kitchen scales and then look up the price on the royal mail website.HTH
My five for today:
1. Made Twinks this morning and some into work. I was very popular even our European Director liked them:D
2. Again other than bus fares for DD and me no money spent today. Thats 3 days running. I think this is some kind of record for me.:money:
3. Thanks to the project I am working on at the moment got to speak to lots of the guys that I used to have daily contact with but due to the change in job don't get to speak to now. So good to catch up with them all
4. Lift home from work off OH tonight
5. Very yummy dinner of sticky rice and chilli chicken plus enough left for 2 days lunches and DD's dinner tomorrow.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Was feeling a bit better today so overdid it a bit.
1. Not sure it was a pleasure, but it was certainly OS (had an asthma exascerbation doing it though! I'm okay, had a nice sit down and a cup of tea - like the book title) ....cleaned kitchen floor on hands and knees, using stardrops and warm water and cheap floor cloths (£1 for 5 i think they were, from Poundland).
2. Cleaned the footwells of the car and the garbage out o the door cavity thingies....DD keeps jamming stuff in there and it all ends up sticky and horrible. Hopefully she will have her own car if she passes her test in a few months and then he can muck up her own car instead of mine!
3. Discovered that my parents dogs love the dehydrated banana chips I made...i gave them to my parents and they gave a couple to their dogs...they went crazy for them. My own tog got up, walked across to see if i had anything worth her getting up for, sniffed the banana chip, looked at me in a dissapointed manner and walked off and found some where cozy to curl up.
4. We had tea at my parents, mum had made a lovely curry. It was yummy and it saved me a few pennies.
5. Just discoved that their are tiny signs of life in 2 of my 5 propogators that i have in the living room window.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
NSD Challenge: October 0/140 -
Tealady- what are twinks?
Caterina- YES i thought i was the only person who ate eggy bread rather than french toast......
savingforoz- what is your book on?
Ok my 5;
1. JUST SOLD MY CAR FOR CASH AT 9.30 THIS EVE!! woo hoo!!
2. I actually cooked just for ME tonight. I am a chef so spend all time cooking but generally live off cereal, chocolate and instant noodles myself. But this afternoon i cooked myself proper dinner to have when got home.
3. OH got me 4 packets for £3 the Asda own brand cornettos that i love......
4. I made such a good toad in the hole at lunch- just rose to perfection- happy eaters
5. did i mention that i sold the car and have cornettos? And have a wonderful fiance..........:T:silenced:They Were Up In Arms wrote: »I think tabskitten is a crying, walking, sleeping, talking, living troll :cool:0 -
Evening  - not quite as cold as yesterday, but cold enough brrrrr!
CCP - sorry to hear that your chat with your sis was such hard work - hope she makes a decision to come on here and finallygets a 'lightbulb moment'. wd for sticking up for the young male client in work and hope he manages to repay your faith in him :T. Hope you and your colleagues enjoy your bargain night out. Have you tried breaking up your chicken carcasse - I find it usually fits in my largest pan when I do that.
Kittikins - wd on the £40 CC refund - great addition to your holiday fund :j and enjoy your trip to see friends at the weekend.
elizabunny - wtg to your DS on his fund-raising run - £300 is a great total and I hope he is proud of his own efforts :T.
sparrer - I'm in Scotland for two weeks in May as well, but a bit further north from where you'll be - Fort William (8th-22nd) - we've been through Dunbeg a few times en route for Oban - such a beautiful part of the country.
Reverbe - I admire you so much for sticking to your commitment to read a book that you find a struggle :T. I know that I'd be no good as part of a Book Club - if a book doesn't 'grab me' in the first few pages, there's no chance of me finishing it. As a child, I was forever returning library books the next day.
Caterina - pleased to hear your cousin's good news :j and wd on getting through so much of your work in one go.
GirlySquare - Good Luck with the meeting for tomorrow AND with your new mobile lphone - they take some getting used to. For your little girl -!
bella - awwww at you not being able 'to find the ON button' -for you - love your turn of phrase. How thoughtful of your OH to take you out for a while - even IF the coffee and scones weren't up to OS standard
. wd on having things growing again :j.
nuttybabe - shhhhh please don't mention 'the cupboard under the sink'. wd on your 'gloop' and also on your sparkly teddy becoming so well-loved.
Ladyhawk - wd on getting your holiday booked for Easter - hope you manage to surprise your parents.
ACEY - wd on getting to school in plenty of time AND on getting through part of your counselling assessment :T. Hope you have a great weekend.
savingforoz - wtg on getting more of your story written :T. lol at typing out your work resignation letter for September - I can well imagine how good that must feel for you - especially in view of the trip you'll have ahead of you.
Carolynita - wd you on taking full advantage of the 'logistics' situation- true to the spirit girl :j. lol at the cockerel welcoming you home from work :rotfl:.
Tealady - wd on 3 nsd's in a row :T.
katholicos - wd on cleaning the floor on your knees - no chance of me doing that - I'd never get back up again. lol at your no.2 - I bet there's no chance at all of dd mucking up her own car - bet she makes everybody take their shoes off when they get in it
. Quite a few people now noticing things beginning to grow again - must get some seeds sown myself :j.
tabskitten - twinks are Twinks Home-made Hobnobs - delicious oaty-cookie-biscuits - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=5392570&postcount=4 - you've just got to have a go at them. Pretty foolproof and you can playaround with the recipe by adding choc chips, dried fruit, chopped glace cherries, chopped nuts, a little mixed spice etc. Wd on selling your car for cash :T.
Mine for today:
1. Managed to sort some help for a deaf lady who couldn't hear when her smoke detector goes off accidentally - Fire Service Deaf Liaison Officer to visit her :j.
2. Got through some long-put-off paper work this this morning.
3. Visit from DS1 early afternoon - haven't seen much of him recently as he's been working in Manchester. Good to have time for a proper chat with him without his g/f being around - naughty Ollie!
4. Roast Chicken and Salad sandwiches for lunch - using up some of last night's chicken.
5. Intended on using up the remaining chicken breast for evening meal BUT 'somebody' had left it clingfilmed on a plate in the fridge - balanced on top of a jar of pickles. It landed upside down with the broken plate - would have applied the '5 second rule' only for the bits of china that may have been stuck in it . Used up the remains of pots, veg, stuffing, gravy from last night to make a 'sort of bubble 'n' squeak meal' - delicious with some crusty Tiger Bread.
That's me about done for this evening - going to have half an hour on my family tree now. Noticed that quite a few peeps are a bit down at the moment - looks like winter is dragging on w-a-y too long this year.for everybody and lets hope tomorrow is a better day all round. Nitey nite, God Bless - love Ollie xxx

hi ladies and gents
Firstly sorry for last night, it all got a wee bit much and I have to say that the support you gave me was amazing, I didnt deserve it after my rant, and I did do cryingthank you all so much when you all have your own worries too, but you found time to post your support. I was overwhelmed when i read the replies.
So on to today, feeling a little better, and now I know Ollies secret, let me just open another tab:D:D
Ollie - thank you for the support, and hope your sniffles get better soon! I can recommend hot port and brandy with a smidge of lemon juice and sugar - doesnt actually cure the cold, but does make you not care that you have one!!!
CCP - have taken your suggestion (as well as Ollies for signs!) and told the girls that when regulars come in, please ask them if they wouldnt mind posting on TA if they have time, hadnt thought of it so thank you. And Im glad that your work is giving you great satisfaction, the guy was lucky to have you on his caseI also hope your sister has her lightbulb moment soon, but it wont shorten the phone calls, because instead you will be talking MSE all the time
have my fingers crossed for you.
Kitty you made me laugh, loved the eeyorish term, I knew exactly what you mean't! Glad you feel better and that you have some lovely plans to look forward to.
Eliza you have a fabulous son he should be very proud of himself and its so good what he did, you lucky girl to have such a great son doing that for others.
Sparrer - you freaked me RIGHT out!!!! (see the pleasures below and you will understand!!! and hopefully it will make you smile!) Thank you for your lovely words. You would be most welcome to pop over, I will book out room 3 for you on the house so you can relax, but no matter how nice you are, I dont do room service!!! Oban isnt that far in reality!
Ladyhawk and Reverbe - I agree! withdraw the item or send them a complimentry copy of English for dummies! I used to play an online mmorpg (world of warcraft is probably the most famous one) and on ventrillo (the thing that we all used to talk on to each other whilst playing) people would literally say LOL instead of laughing! I was astounded!
Caterina - great news about your cousin, and OMG (text speak lol) I am so having eggy bread tomorrow now!
Girlysquare - send a lovely hug to your DD, teach them young I say, nothing bad about MSE!
Bella - whats a ripple square thingy (new to crochet but it sounds clever!)
Nutty - what a lovely reward for your hard work that she loves it, Im still a novice on erm well not quite granny sqaures, Im on circle thingy 25 of about 3 million for the bloomin scarf, how on earth do you crochet a teddy!
CCP - you already had a mention, ( HOW DOES OLLIE DO THIS!!!!) but good call on the suggestion to work colleagues, sounds like a good evening!
Ladyhawk ( who also already had a mention too - Ollie we need to talk about how you deal with this!!!) I am so with you on the ebay postage! I check the post rates site, weigh everything I put up and STILL I am out of pocket! I also always neglect ebay charges and paypals, but hey ho its stuff I dont need in my case, so anything is a bonus!
Acey - Grats on the college assessment, a councellor saved my life ( without being too dramatic! but its true) and I admire anyone who is onewell done you.
SavingforOz - Good job on the story - I had a moment today of writing down "memoirs of a publican" the thoughts and memories it brought back made me smile, but I wouldn't have the discipline you have, its great that you wrote so much - my 10,000 word final exam piece for nursing took months! hat off to you.
Carolyntia - I imagined the cockeral! Also admiring the ability to stay calm ... Im trying to, but its so hard! Im pretending not to be jealous of the weightloss too!!! well done!
Tealady - I now need to make some more twinks!
Katholicos - I know the feeling of the propergators - I stare at them willing them to grow! I thought it was only me that got excited at the tiniest spec of life, but then with my luck it turns out to be some chopped parsley that was stuck to my hand or something! I also need to clean out the car, last time i did it, I found macdonalds containers and some 2 year old tobacco... we last went to macdonalds about the same time as the tobacco was purchased as its on the "mainland" and involves a ferry ride!
Phew *I am now praying for my sanity that no one else posts! Ollie, 1) how did I do? (that was the most challenging thing ever! but worht it! but dont worry, I wont be doing it again in a hurry ! you just got even higher in my estimations! Still glad I tried tho and hope I gave a little bit back in the process! 2) this tabbing lark is well hard work! 3) I thought I had lost all that I had posted in the last 45 mins that it took me so had a MASSIVE panic! 4) dont worry everyone, if your eyes are bleeding at this point, well done on sticking with it thus far, and dont worry, I wont do it again, not that I dont want to support and give back, just that its unfair to take up so much server space with my waffles (plus its so confusing and hard to do!!! Ollie is a demi god!)
OK so... my 5 for today if you didnt fall asleep / decide that sticking a sharpened pencil up each nostril and then dropping your head forward onto the desk...
1) I took on board everyones ideas , cried at the support from you guys, made a sign for the inn as suggested about people telling friends if they like what we do, telling us if not. Also utilised a link that trip advisor provide and emailed people that have stayed with us, resulted in 2 new reviews today that are really nice. Also talked to staff and asked them to ask regulars to post as well as asking them to ask all customers to post if they have time as advised here, Im not just asking people I know like it, I want fair and just comments, if people dont tell us, we dont know. As it happened, the conversation revealed who it was that was likely to have made the post, which further supports the idea that the competition instigated it, and also reassured me of the fact that it isnt a general opinion. Looked into scanning in our guestbook pages too onto the website. And... posted a comment in reply to the person that posted yesterday on TA, a constructive one that I feel will expose the genuine flaws in the comment left.
2) I was freaked out totally by sparrer mentioning the bath! I was convinced she was psychic or something.. how could she know about the bath ? then started wondering more about other peoples posts... suddenly dawned that when i registered I put in our web address... how was I to know that if you clicked my name you went to the webby!!! DUH! I thought it was just something that people put in as their fave website or something, didnt realise that it was public LOLLOLOLOL!!! I thought people were commenting on assumption about the reviews and realised they had access to the site, as well as taking the time to search and read trip advisor too, I was amazed and overwhelmed all at the same time, as well as ofc feeling VERY VERY Stupid
3)trying to do an "Ollie"! I know her secret now, and opened a new tab etc, spent ages replying and scrolling, panicking id miss someone, someone posted when twice, or whilst I was typing! how dare you! or the fact when I thought id lost the whole post, then relieved when i realised I was confused and on the wrong tab! Realised, Im not as special as Ollie and tho i read each post, and have thoughts and want to encourage, I need to leave it to people who are good at it! I did try tho, and it was lovely to do, but dont worry I will spare you all in future, just know you are all in my thoughts, and its the thought that counts, I dont have the skills to execute it very well!
4) Thinking I should write a book "confessions of the Coylet!! Inspired by one of the girls coming running into the kitchen with a tube of KY jelly (held in a paper towel lol) saying "PLEASE let me call the couple that were in room 2 over the weekend and tell them they left this under their pillow and do they want us to send it on!" I said no ofc, but it made me think of so many things that happen here that would make good reading - like the wedding party where the groom came to me ( bear in mind we have a "wedding" box full of safety pins, sewing kits, bits of ribbon etc - all the "last minute things" we have learned to have around so that in an emergency on the big day, nothing is overlooked) so the groom discreetly comes to me and says " I dont suppose you have anything for heamorrhoids, one of our guests is really suffering and forgot their cream..." thats not the surprising bit...as an ex nurse you ask for anything medical I can provide and im not phased at all... I had an un opened tube... I was however surprised when he approached me 2 hours later, tube in hand and offered it back and thanked me so much for it... made me smile thinking of the good things - its not all bad. I digress sorry its late lol.
5) getting up this morning, realising that we had a power out that was planned, so getting on with what I could, then logging on when the power was back and reading all the lovely posts - you are all special people. thank you.
you still here???? well done for getting to the end, the medal is in the post!
