Evening all
Ollie I always try and fit my chores in around my route. No point in wasting petrol for the sake of it. This time I fitted the logistics people around my chores...needed to go to Boots and Mr T so fitted them in too.
Sparrer Well done for taking your own advice there. Enjoy Jersey...I'm sure you'll be so busy you won't even miss your laptop.
Jexygirl Well done on your 'Ollie' post :T. The cockeral is a mad thing but so lovely. I always look forward to seeing him :rotfl:. Don't be jealous of the weight loss. I gained because the hospital put me on some hormones....felt like a beached whale. Now I'm off them I'm dropping a bit. The secret to my calm is to refuse to let people get to me (doesn't always work)....lots of deep breaths....walking off and getting some fresh air and talking to my colleagues when it all seems to be getting too much. I think it helps that you've talked to your staff about your worries now....keep up the communication and I'm sure they'll all pitch in and helpKeep smiling. I'm like a duck on water...all calm on the surface and paddling like hell underneath
Caterina Can you put me down for eggy bread too....love it with tomato ketchup
My recent ones:
1) More texts from the 10 year ex and a promise of some flowers
2) Cockerel visit this morning
3) Busy productive day....got loads done
4) Friend popping round after work for a surprise visit.
5) House being tidy before the weekend because of the viewing :j
6) No spend day
7) Everything washed up and ready for the morning....I'm so annoyingly organised it verges on OCD
Right off to iron I few bits and then a nice bath I think
Hope you all had a good day. Take care. CAs my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
CCP, Ollie, jexygirl and sparrer thanks for your kind words to dd, I'll show her your posts tomorrow, she will be thrilled. Although she's too young to register on mse she's already picked her nickname betty_kitten
ACEY well done for getting so much done this week a mean feat given all you've had going on
My five for today:
1) tea and porridge in bed courtesy of dp
2) chatting to auntie before the meeting
3) me, auntie and my two sisters pulling together at the meeting and explaining our concerns. Mum's consultant took this on board, though can't do a lot unless mum says she's changed her mind about going home
4) chatting to auntie and sisters after the meeting sharing our concerns 'a problem shared...'
5) mum sounding more practical and sensible when we spoke with her later, hoping this is a good sign
Hugs to everyone who needs them."We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright0 -
Evening everyone,
Jexy - Thanks for your epic post. Your inn looks so fab I really want a trip to Scotland to stay there. The views look amazing. Also can I just say you look after your staff much better than any where I lived and worked when in the catering industry - staff food was usually what ever was going off in the back of the fridge and the posher the hotel the worse it was.
Caterina - Me as well for the eggy bread club but definetly not Marmite_pale_
My five for today:
1. Found out today DD is off to a Guiding Camp for 3 days in May and it will only cost £30 all in:T.
2. Lunch was yesterdays leftover sticky rice with chilli chicken and it was yum
3. Writing this eating a chocolate eclair (YS of course)
4. NSD over for this week but what did spend today was all on offer or YS
5. Looking forward to a night out tomorrow with the girls, this is long overdue
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Nuttybabe- break a few eggs in a bowl with some milk and seasoning- dip sliced bread in turning to cover it in mixture then fry in a hot pan till golden- I like mine with tomato ketchup, goldern syrup or (dare i say it) SKIPPY peanut butter and jam!!
Caterina- I am def in the 'LOVE it' club
Jexygirl- if you have not read the book ''the secret'' get it and read it- it will make lots of sense to you!
Ok my 5
1. Made a great stew and dumplings!!
2. managed to help a friend through probably the worst day of her life.
3. Gave a sports massage to a man crippled with sciatic pain and he walked out much better.
4. Personal training client has lost 1/2 stone this week.
5. Can i repeat yesterdays selling of the car? because i am still feeling so happy about that all today......:silenced:They Were Up In Arms wrote: »I think tabskitten is a crying, walking, sleeping, talking, living troll :cool:0 -
5 for today!
1) Had a day at home after the rather stressful start to the week. Had a good tidy, cleaned the bathroom and made a tray of flapjacks.
2) Spoke to someone helpful at the CSA. I haven't had a CSA payment since October, even the CSA don't know why.
3) Had some mushrooms on toast for lunch as I'm the only person here who likes mushrooms and everyone else was at school!
4) Made some baked potatoes for tea and had them with some of last night's roast chicken and some mayo.
5) Did a load of ironing this evening whilst watching (cough) What Katie Did Next.
6) Little son did well with his reading homework, he's really getting the hang of it now.
7) Photocopied the recent court order then left it for the boys' headteacher along with a covering letter. So hopefully the ex won't take it upon himself to drive off with them from school again...
That's about it!
L0 -
Evening all :hello: - been quite a mild day here - didn't have to 'fast forward' the central heating like I've had to do for the past few days. If this continues, I might even be able to turn it off on Monday (1st March) after all :j.
jexygirl - wd you on the great post :T. Thank you for the kind compliment, but there's really nothing special about me at all. I'm just one of those folks who can't stop talking in real life OR on the comp keyboard. Love your website, and for anyone who's never been to Scotland, I can honestly say that Loch Eck is beautiful - I've been past it a couple of times travelling from Inverary to Oban but never been in a position to stop and have a wander. Loving your idea of a book about the trials and tribulations of running a small hotel :j. Your nearest supermarket is a Spar? - omg those are so expensive compared with our lovely local Asda!
sparrer - of course your mum's choice has to come first - I know exactly what that's like. Oh dear, the number of holidays I have had to endure in Rhyl - mum's favourite place in the whole wide world and where she can play Bingo morning, noon and night! Good to know that you enjoyed your 'birthday' and that other people remembered as well :T.
Megs mum - wd to you and your friend for enjoying your run in the rain - not exactly my personal idea of fun, but I can quite understand that it can be magical - lights shining on wet pavements/roads etc. Good for you talking about eco-funeral stuff with your dil. Good Luck with the Newham Race!
bella - wd to you and OH for keeping up with your NT memberships. Always useful for a spur of the moment day out for the cost of the petrol alone. I'm sorry that your Aunt has HAD to go to a nursing home, but it can't possibly be any worse than the hospital she was in. Is there anybody who can visit her on a regular basis while she's in the home? Friend, relative, neighbour, vicar - visitors make such a difference to residents - reassures them that they aren't 'forgotten'.
Caterina - lol at the Eggy Bread Club - my grandkids love it with jam, lemon curd, tomato/brown sauce, sweet pickle - they're not bothered, sweet or savoury as the fancy takes them. When my own kids were small and times were really tough, I used to make 1 egg do 2 slices of bread and serve it with some home-made chips to fill them up. I'll be very generous and let you keep the Marmite all to yourself _pale_.
Blimus - lovely to see you again . wd you on discovering some shops in your town that you hadn't visited before - does us all good to explore a little nearer home sometimes.
nuttybabe - wd on your nsd :j and how lovely of your mum to volunteer to buy you a sewing machine. Could you ask her for the loan of her spare one, just to see if you really take to sewing - explain to her that you don't want her to waste money on another one, if you then find that you don't really enjoy it after all. My DD has never shown any interest at all in knitting, crochet or sewing - much to my dismay. wd to your dd and ds2 on making their own apple crumble - hope they enjoyed the result .
CCP - aaargh on the corned beef tin - those things are so darned lethal! Strange how nobody has ever thought to STOP PUTTING THE STUFF IN THOSE WRETCHED SHAPED CANS. Just what is so special about a 'wonky rectangle' tincan? Maybe we should all start to sue the companies every time we cut a finger on the cans. Enjoy your lie-in and day off :rotfl:.
Ladyhawk - congrats on getting good feedback from your presentation AND on doing the job that you'd asked the Director to do :T.
Kittikins - wd on getting a good price for you dead mobile :j. good luck with making the bag for dd's dance shoes.
zarazara - it must have felt good to be able to go out without a coat - fingers crossed that we can do that here soon.
Carolynita - wd on having the house straight before the weekend - hope you get the opportunity for a lovely relaxing time.
GirlySquare - wd to you all on forming a 'team' and presenting a united front to the consultant. If your mum DOES go back to her home with your step-dad, make sure that you still keep going round to keep an eye on how she's doing and don't let him put you off at all.
Tealady - Hope you enjoy your night out with the girls!
tabskitten - wd on your stew and dumplings :j. And, having had sciatica in the past myself, wd for what you managed to do for your client - he must have been so pleased.
ACEY - Hope the CSA track down what happened to your payments - better in your pockets than theirs. Good idea about leaving a copy of the Court Order with the headmaster - always best to keep the school informed of any problems where children/ex-partners are concerned.
Mine for today:
1. Nasty start to the day when a tenant came to tell me that somebody tried to force their way into his house last night when his son went to open the door. Luckily, they realised there were two able-bodied men in the house and they legged it fine style - 2 youths about 18 wearing balaclavas - scarey that if they'd got the house next-door instead, it would have been a lady who's had a couple of strokes. Silly thing is that he didn't want to report it to the Police as he didn't want to be thought of as a 'grass' - what can you do with them when they think like THAT!!!!! Rang them myself and got a Log No. to pass on to Line Manager and Housing Officer.
2. Spent the morning composing a letter to warn tenants of what had happened and give advice about keeping doors locked and using the spy-holes/security chains to check ID Badges. Don't want to scare everybody, but need to make them aware of the dangers.
3. Visits from DS2 with dgs3 this morning and then DS1 followed half an hour later. Was so good to have my two [STRIKE]boys[/STRIKE] men in the house at the same time - not often it happens. DS1 had promised to collect and deliver a poker table for DS2 - another unusual thing as they don't normally have much to do with each other at all - chalk and cheese!
4. dgs3 had a bowl of my Cauliflower and Broccoli Soup for his lunch and wolfed it down- that's my boy!
5. Whoopsied Ginsters Pies for evening meal with champ, carrots and fine green beans .
6. Have made a big pan of Spicey Parsnip and Apple Soup this evening and used up a manky apple in the process. Even added the left over champ to save wasting it.
7. The sniffles are still hanging around, but no sore throat, shivering or temperature at the moment.
8. Got the receipt from my recent holiday payment - only another £200 to be paid now :j.
I'm going to try to get off for an early night - hope I sleep better than last time I tried doing this. Nitey nite all - love Ollie xxx

What a day, up at 8am which was okay, cleaned house, made bread, even tidied the spare bedroom lol, but DM and DB who were supposed to arrive about midday eventually got here at 1.10pm after being stuck on the worlds largest car park for ages.
Bella I spoke to DB who belongs to NT and I think he's going to buy my sub in July:)
Thank you Mrs President (Ms president, or just President - don't want to be sexist), for my Badge No 5, it's an honour to belong to the Eggy Bread Fan Club :rotfl:I'll give the Marmite a miss though, Vegemite is more my thing as I don't find it so strong
Welcome back Blimus, good to see you again
CCP I'm really looking forward to Jersey, not least becasue if I cancel I lose over £300 . I've never been before so it's going to be an exciting new experience. You're right Carolyntia, I won't really need the lappy as there's going to be so much going on for three of the 5 days, but will have some time to myself so hoping the weather isn't wet and I can go to the beach to blow some cobwebs away.
GirlySqaure (((hugs))) to our upcoming member betty_kitten, one of the next generation of OSers :j
I think I'd prefer Rhyl Ollie, last time we went to Majorca and the plane was delayed, we had to sit on hard plastic seats for 7 hours with only a token for one cup of tea or coffee each. She won't let me forget it (it was my fault for booking that flight of course) but still insists on sun and sea - and pref all inc so she can have her medicinal brandies from 10 in the morning until...... At least in UK I'd be in control of driving etc, but what does a good little daughter do?
My 5 -
1. A lovely day (eventually) with DM and DB.
2. For once DB wasn't a pain in the arris - he's usually so supercilious and better than though that sadly he makes me feel completely inferior so I don't enjoy his company but today he was much more amenable.
3. We found a super olde worlde pub in the village for lunch, excellent home cooking, super service, amazingly cheap prices, but the landlord and landlady are leaving in 3 weeks to live abroad. The law of sod.
4. DM, who would stand over my DC with a dustpan and brush when they were small and had a biscuit in her home, told me I have a lovely house. Praise indeed, as I don't care too much for housework - understatement
5. Visiting DD and the DGC in the morning, where I don't have to sit on the edge of my seat or stand on ceremony, even in my own home. Much as I appreciate having a DM of her age, and a brother who has done very well for himself, it's a sigh of relief to get back to normality, whatever that is
Night night (((hugs))) everybody

Im a member of a commitee thingy stuff thing! number 4 its official! ( I would contest on the technicality that I should be 3, but its down to my being slow on posting that I made 4, so wont argue as Im so excited about even being a commitee thingy person and proud! Eggy bread forever!
Oki now onto serious stuff!!! Ollie we need to talk - its not enough that I spent over an hour on last nights post (yes i worked out the time it took by looking at who posted between!) but you now added fancy smiley thingys without leaving instructions !!!! Gah! whats a girl to do!
Sorry you had a bad start, but everything for a reason and at least you were able to warn others.
Isnt it strange how people you never met, but read posts from, you kind of picture, and Ollie is like 20 something to me but obviously somehow had kids at like 8 so that grandkids are in the picture!
Thank you to all who looked at the webby ( that until last night i didnt know you could see lol!) and say such nice things, I know I am lucky to be here, but everything looks good from the outside looking in remember - everythign has a price and all is not always what it seemsYou are all however very welcome here, just drop me a line, maybe we can organise a special OS meet where we save up together say 50p a day to cover travel and whatever goes in the slow cooker for our dinner - I have lots of space if you dont all mind sharing and if we aim for like november when we close for a week, we have lots of 50ps and selfishly, if I am closed, I can play to and we can go do things!
Ok, I said last night, that I did an ollie style post, I tried, it made peoples eyes bleed reading it, and I would never do it again... but!!! I loved it, telling people, not just thinking it, so although this is already epic, I want to try to improve and edit! *opens new tab ollie style*!
Sparr! well done on reading it all, I couldn't and I wrote it! So lovely that you posted about the bread you prepped and it wasnt even for youlovely thought and very you!
Megs mum... what is this "running" thing you speak of ?????? lol its a foreign language!
Bella.. increasing / decreasing... I have to count the stitches on a treble stitch, yes just one! dont confuse me! but it sounds very clever!
Caterina.. I want to contest my position down to the technicality of time of posting, and my useless slow typing /tab skills, however, I will let it lie on this occasion as I never was a member of an honourary eggy bread club, so appreciate that I am one, and will let it go this once:D:D maybe we need t shirts and a marketing plan so we can take over the world!!!!
Blimus! I feel welcome back is a little assuming of me, since people have only been putting up with me for a few days so instead will shake your hand and say pleased to meet you
Nutty, roudn and round? I have issues with straight and straight and them all being the same size! I worked out to ignore a pattern and invented my own stitches with all of 5 days experience! My patterns would read Yarn over, drop it, cat attack on yarn, that hole was meant to be there, where did that extra loop come from, never mind hook it over!
Bella, sorry to hear so many people who are close are not doing so good, chin up is all I can offer
CCP did you really need to cut yourself as an excuse to not cook! Sheesh just say I didnt want to! No upset intended, Its hateful when that happens and I hope it isnt too bad and you heal and feel better soon. (get a tetnus hun, even if you arent out of date, make a bad a good and get covered!)
Ladyhawk Good job on taking things into your own hands, seems it was a good call with the positive responses too.
Kittykins, my geography is worse, honest! I didnt know that Kenya was in africa till my wedding day when I turned to OH in response to a card that read "have fun in africa" and I said, we are going on safari in kenya whats he on about?"... we are top end let side as you look at map. Not at the top but look at UK and less than a quarter from the top point and to the left ish
Zara - I need to go walking more, its so cold, Im jealous you didnt need a coat
Carolyntia - had a great chat tonight on the back of what you said, with our longest term member of staff which was great so thankyouOn the eggy bread thing... it will have to go to committee
:D:D
Girlysquare - Im sorry about the problems atm, but at least now you are talking and sharing, you are right about a problem shared, I hope it all works out and you feel a bit more supported in the situation.
Tealady - I never had kids, but I call them the kids - not because of immaturity, but "staff" sounds awful and I feel like I have kids! them saying where they are going, when they will be in, dealing with traumas, breakups etc! And sometimes I do feed US whats at the back of the fridge, in the form of pizzabut I never feed them something I wouldnt eat so I guess its ok!
Tabs! Tell me more about "the secret" who wrote it, Im intrigued now! google comes up with all sorts of undesirable options! besides that, seems like you had a really fulfilling day, you made people happy, or their lives better, thats admirable, not that its good peopel suffer, just good that you can help, good on you
Acey, i cant imagine what you are going through and wont pretend to know, but you are so positive and strong in your attitude, and approach, I think your boys are so lucky to have you xxx
And then there is finally Ollie (till I refresh the page and find 10 people posted the last hour!
Thank you for letting me have a wonderful time and indulging metho I do think you pushed it with the smileys, Im a begginer! Hope you had a nice early restful night
see what happened, I said I wouldnt do it again and I did! So ok, I will get better / shorter / put me on ignore! Its addictive !
My 5.. which is all I was supposed to post but got sucked in!
1) there is no sadder sight, than VERY wet VERY cold hens. whose pen resembles a marsh... yet they still find the energy to come running to meet you in horrendous weather!
2) On the back of responses from last nights post, had a real good chat with my longest standing member of staff and feel that we understand each others points more. We get on so well out of work, but in work we dont! We are too alike it transpires!
3) working out that it took over an hour to respond to the posts last night, but it seemed like 10 minutes and being sorry that I waffle so much, but at the same time, enjoying reading posts and writing what Im thinking - totally selfish in a way, and vowed tonight would be short - I suck! (but proving that I was secretly looking forward to reading it and responding! but not wanting people to feel they should read it all!!!!!)
4) My KP saying "OK this has gone far enough, how can i stop your access to MSE" when I suggested we think of some way of using up the skin of the smoked salmon side AFTER I had boiled it within my cullen skink to add more flavour!
5) Not meaning to do what I did last night and waffle endlessly and reply to everyone, when i vowed not to bore you all!
Oh come on, It HAS to be shorter than last night.... doesn't it!!!!!
Hugs to all
and the usual apology, if a little late because if you are reading this now, you got to the end! Sorry for the length, Im a learner!
BUT! you need to be nice to me if you wanna be in the eggy bread club, Im on the committee thingy you know!
Jex
No. 4 eggy bread club (on a technicality! It should be 3, but I wont go on about it!:D:D)
