Have a fantastic time in Malta, Sparrer.
CCP, mayo prize is great! I wouldn't like the going up on stage one either. :D
VJsmum, I haven't caught up on the posts over most of this year so may well have missed something about your mum's book. It sounds special. Is it fiction or non-fiction, and if the latter, what sort of subject? (Curiosity got the better of me :))

    Five pleasures for Friday:

    1. Collected DS1's car from MOT garage - he's so pleased about it.

    2. Sitting in my car at lunchtime with a take-out cappuccino (a treat) concentrating so hard on work that I was really engrossed in that the 40 minutes I had to wait for DS2 vanished in no time at all. It's lovely when time vanishes like that :D

    3. Got my bulk delivery of green cleaning materials, incl bicarb, today. Now really well stocked up.

    4. Had a phone call from DS1 to say he'd had a safe flight up North and is safely tucked up in his hotel ready for the event he'll be at this weekend.

    5. DS2 and 1 visited my parents who fed us supper unexpectedly - so very welcome: fish pie plus mango with yoghurt for pud. Delish.

    Sweet dreams,

    B x

Every good luck wish to you and Isis ccp. The other CP 4-foots are green with envy.

    1. Msg from X crossed mine as I stood in huge P&R queue back to car. More tmrw trailer work fine-tuned. Same objèt - dismantled shed - but less hairy trajet over shorter distance.

    2. Well, did manage Spits, but with carboot not opening, it's such a hard slog manoeuvring &tonk in and out, inc. small furniture. Didn't hit the £100 break-even till after 15h when suddenly, things took off a bit. 3 sales during packing-up were a real bonus with lovely peeps, who also wanted pics. It felt good to be welcomed back and referred to, falsely, as 'old hand' in Spits terms - a year now - and reassured by M. that my permanence is secure. Regular waiting list now touches 40, with up to 90/100 ringing for a casual spot weekly on the off-chance. Sign of times?/season? Realise I didn't take lovely original boxed 6A Meccano or lacquer work/ivory vanity box with contents - next Thurs- fète de Ste Carine.

    3. Put a. into g. and thought petrol-wise w/e through. Hence to P&R, town, walk back to Mackay's to find 2.5mm headless bolts to sort art deco bookends from Cogolin ready for next Spits. Bit more inner blokey chat in this place, where sense of respect-won-despite-gender was tangible and pathetically made me feel good.

    4. Modest banking - car tax replaced is just one Phew!, £land 2-part epoxy glue and batteries, free w8rs drink and helpfully labelled RTC, 87p 'Essential Waitrose Chocolate eclairs'....who be Moi to disobey?...all achieved on walk through Grafton Centre, en route to Library. Green token reverbe'd from w8rs floor, which is odd, because they don't have the good causes slots set up in this smaller outlet.

    5. Heard most of a cracking Now Show on way back - a Do Not Miss:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03fftgs

6.Just received from NZ. I do like it:

As we SILVER Surfers know, sometimes we have trouble with our computers. I had a problem yesterday, so called Eric, the 11 year old next door, whose bedroom looks like Mission Control, and asked him to come over.

Eric clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.

As he was walking away, I called after him, 'So, what was wrong?
He replied, 'It was an ID ten T error.'

I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired, 'An ID ten T error? What's that? In case I need to fix it again.'

Eric grinned...'Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?

    'No,' I replied.

'Write it down,'he said 'and I think you'll work it out.'

    So I wrote down: I D 10 T

    I used to like Eric.

    7. Much Meaning of Life stuff continues, as it has since rtn<France, through &brain. So, I won't be around in another 40 years, but could be for 30, intend to be for 20...want decent time. How best to achieve and where?

    8. NZ Passport renewal hits buffer - rang re:unanswered? All completely rejigged and '3-years' known' referee must be another current NZ Passport holder, not family member...where am I supposed to get one of those? 'Yeah, it trips up a few. Don't know what you can do really. You can't have a passport I guess'. Thus the calibre of current Noddy-reductive NZ House, a once-iconic Haymarket stop, with Inia te Wiata's great last carving soaring into the atrium. AND it's illogical. Village vicar has been my ref. until now. tbc.

    9. ...and must get a move on. Have been thinking if/if not/whither to take self out of conventional crimbo territory this year. Passport and car=security blanket and escape route, both essential to me.

    10. Just cut off during huge call from France, which has been lovely, lovely, lovely...as has been Var weather in continuum since I left. 'We're still in shirts and shorts and sleeveless, you'd think it was summer. Get on a plane&. Come back. You know this is where you belong.'

    11. Collected reserved Martin O'Brien/Jacquot from Library, also a Michael Frayn. Tried not to start MOB on bus, but had to:D. Luckily no chance of missing stop - there's only the carpark.

Started this a couple of hours ago - talking since, so good, so un-me.
Bonne nuit and special hugs to all and all who are remembered at Toussaint.

    Supplementaries:

    1. frith does Lady Wot Shop for Frock. [I was startled and read quickly on.] Call it training up for more and oftener. 5 hrs is small beer Frith:-)
Frith will be a knock-out at party, a good habit to acquire.
    2. vjm - Tim is purely wonderful and so much in those lyrics echoed what we can hear on his DID.
One very wise line echoes much of what someone in France had been saying to me about Life going forward and not forever coping with knockbacks, taking them on chin uncomplaingly.
    3. bop - you and la Duchesse Smack are on song ce soir. New Rule[advance gifty for bop birthday]: both players have seven turns laying 7-letter words. Game ends with 1st player laying final 2 tiles. Loser chooses new pu$$y.
    4. ccp runner-up prize superior to 1st to my mind.
    5. vjm - poop day now history. hignfy and now show, on other hand, are there for continuous repeat. Salut! Fait le plein.

So, following on from yesterday's rant which I deleted ....I am now unemployed!

Was told yesterday not to come in for shift ...have a lovey time off and given 2 hours notice of this...went in for shift today , supposed to be on 12-7 pm and boss told me that she would be speaking to me and main colleague today ....was supposed to be together and then was done seperately ....she was out for 20 minutes and it did not look like a happy conversation. Then at 2.50pm I was called outside and asked "did I want to work there or not" ( bit random / bit out the blue I thought) , "do you want me to work here or not ?" asked I.....was told I had to up my game and had a list of things to go through , she told me "I know you have a lot going on ( my mum's not well at the moment) but my mother was dying and I worked"
As far as I'm aware my mums illness has not affected my 1.5 shifts I have worked since we re-opened. I had decided yesterday that I would be looking for another job anyway. I decided there and then that I was not going to be spoken down to by this woman who has sacked 11/14 staff in 2 months. I decided that she would not make me feel inadequate and stupid. So I said I would leave....I reckon I would be out the door next anyway.
"Work till 3pm and stay and have some food" .....don't think so love, you've kind of made me lose my appetite. Phoned OH to come and get me and got my bag...left my apron for her to wash! ...and went outside to wait for my lift.

I am very p!ssed off but in a way relieved, I've not been happy there for a wee while. The owners are a couple who constantly bicker, one says do it this way the other says do it that way. She was constantly asking me what I thought about other staff ( I got on with them all) would say things like , "you don't like me do you" we worked , sorry volunteered for 4 hours last Saturday, took a half hour break on Monday and were then told we should not have gone all together....we were not open to customers. Worked 10 hours on Tuesday to get ready to re-open on Wednesday. Didn't like us socialising out of work. Lots of negatives that were starting to outweigh the positives ( if you remember at the beginning it was like my dream job)
So I became number 12 to go in 2 months, which I don't think says much for her management skills.

OH has been shaking his head for past 3 weeks over their shenanigans and how they treat the staff so wasn't too shocked. Anyway onwards and upwards as I always say and there were some pleasures to my day:

1: early morning hair do.....colour re-applied and beautifully blow dried all for free.
2: early morning cafe-ing with OH. We wandered up to our local one and sat outside in the beautiful morning sunshine.
3: lovely chat with my 93 year old neighbour. Could chat all day.
4: finished at 3pm instead of 7pm! So that was a bonus ! OH and girls came to pick me up. Went to next town and had coffee and cakes....and got 2 free nail polishes. ( we are still not sure why you would get nail polish with a coffee and a cake but hey! it's a freebie and will look nice on my toes)
5: I saw a lovely pair of sling back wedges the other day and was going to wait until I'd been paid ..went in today and they had $10 off them so bought them and threw out my stinky work shoes that make my feet stink.
6: walk round the sports oval with OH
7: reassuring phone calls with my sister and best friend from home.
8: sitting outside at my little table and chairs , it's been 28o but back down to 16o tomorrow , so made the most of the sunshine.
9: I have a stocked cupboard, fridge and freezer, cleaning products and toiletries, so we won't starve or smell.
    10. The love of my family.

Have the loveliest of Saturdays , bedtime here :)

MHags - I saw part of your message had gone so I deleted my comment about it yesterday. What a silly woman your boss sounded! That's an amazing turnover in the number of staff.

Glad you had a nice Saturday apart from that. 28 degrees! I've just checked on my phone and it says its 11 here but it is so damp and windy it doesn't feel that warm.

Hugs and forwards, Mhags. Pfrt to people skills of boss. CCP, yay, congrats at the win, so pleased for you! Ampersand and VJsmum, I would have posted this last night but got caught up in Tim Minchin songs and videos, what a joy.
I woke Dr C. up earlier by shouting at the radio at this story regarding delays to benefits for terminally ill people.

The above not a pleasure but yesterday was ...

    1. DGC visiting. They had their electronic games with them, not OS at all, but they put them down and we made white chocolate truffles together. Lovely that they haven't outgrown those pleasures, they also liked the books I had for them.

    2. Puppy cuddles with little Walter and Beth, Walter now 5 months and such a lovely natured little chap. The dogs enjoyed their treats that I'd bought them, I enjoyed Walter copying his 'big sister' in giving me doggy kisses. She is a very loving girl and he has the same traits.

    3. Chats with DD, though she lives fairly locally her life is so busy and we don't have many chances to really talk. Passed on three vest tops to her. I have loads of these following clothes - buying binges of previous years.

    4. DD also saved me c. £12 by giving my hair a trim, she commented that I had done a very good job in cutting it myself in recent months. It's so straight and so fine, that I resent paying money for literally a minute's work at the hairdressers, except that they usually spin it out to five minutes to fit in the obligatory 'holidays?' questions.
I passed on my old, still relatively new hairdryer to DGD along with a small pile of toiletries, some were meant for Christmas but will be needed before then.

    5. Not having to go out into a cold, damp day because I did the shopping earlier in the week. It's so wet and gloomy outside.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
