:) I don't normally post on this thread, but having a really lovely day and would like to add my 5 :)
    1) My 2 daughters didn't rush to get me up this morning and when I got up they were sat in bed with half the fruit bowl watching a film.

2)had planned a bike ride with the girls, but seeing the size of the hail stones a unanimous verdict of 'pyjama day' was decided.

3)managed to use up some of the fridge contents to make a really delicious roasted veg soup that we all enjoyed

4)girls have played so nicely together all day, making lots of lego models (huge box of lego from freecycle last year), villages, cars. no arguments, just lovely.

    5) the girls playing together meant I had time to sit with some crochet. have made some finger puppets for stories and rhymes. 5 little ducks, the start of old macdonalds farm(pig, cow, dog, duck) and 2 extra pigs for the 3 little pigs story.

and one little extra, just sat here chuckling to myself as they're singing along to mama mia songs and substituting some of the words for slightly naughty ones. I love happy, relaxed days like these and as a bonus...it's Monday tomorrow and since I changed jobs I love Mondays :)

    with love, Lisa x

 bagpuss - do come back and say hello again :)
 lisakay - what a lovely sounding day! You must be a very good crochet-er (what is the word for someone who crochets?)

My five pleasures for Sunday (ignoring the few from earlier):

    1. DS1 is safely back home from his weekend away.

    2. Just popped outside to put some things back into the car boot and there's a slight smell of woodfire smoke in the air and the owls are hooting. Lovely.

    3. Needed milk and some other bits in town so went via W8rs for my free coffee again :D and got a couple more little presents for the C tree while I was out as well.

    4. My dad has asked me to be a taxi service for him tomorrow. I've been trying to get my parents to use my services as a driver some more so I'm really glad he asked.

    5. Took a break mid-afternoon to use up some of my double-sided card-making papers and made a bunch of envelopes and X**s and 'Thank you' cards. They look lovely - especially the envelopes - very pleased with those. Bit of money saved.

    Sweet dreams

    Evening

    DD - (((Hugs)))
Broomstick - (((Hugs))) hope your friend gets some good news
    Bagpuss -

    Pleasures for today,
    1. Lazy morning of tea, toast and the papers
    2. Washing dried on the line and my neighbour didn't finish up with my scanties in his garden which OH thought would happen as so windy
    3. Finally got my self in gear and did the usual Sunday cooking to get organised for the week and the cook it as it looks scary now cooking - baked ginger cake, stewed apples with cinnamon (love this is my porridge), tomato and red wine sauce, carrot soup, roasted and stripped half a chicken, roasted and sliced a small ham.
    4. Slow cooked beef casserole for dinner with dumplings for me and DD and yorkshire puddings for OH.
    5. Went to watch the fire work display at the local school got to say we were cheeky and watched from the road rather than pay the £5 each. We have issues with the parents parking and the school don't seem to care so didn't feel to bad. Even when someone came round waving a bucket at us and told us we had to pay for standing in the road, OH told her we would pay when the parents stopped blocking our car in including this evening. Quite a few other people were doing the same and their children go to the school.

Hugs to all who need them

LFS - I have some Orzo, what do I do with it. The vase thing made me :rotfl:
Chicken - mmmmmm French patisserie. One of my favourite things on the way to see dad is to go to Patisserie Valerie at St Pancras, I will even get up half an hour earlier and not have breakfast for 2 hours so that I can go :D Oh and I have my eyebrows and <<ahem>> other bits :o waxed. Eyebrows don't hurt, the worst bit is backs of legs
Hello Bagpuss and Lisakay - do stay, it's nice here.
All this talk of hookers will make BoP think we are talking rugby ;)
CCP - glad Isis is settling
Mhagster - sounds like you made the right choice. Hope you get something else soon
Friday was a 'mare because I teach all day and have a nightmare module, didn't get home till gone 6, spoke to my (ex - ish) BIL on the way home about my lovely sister who is in a bit of a bad way. I have kind of been burying my head about her as I have been so busy, but I need to go down and see her and try to help sort her out. I am probably the only person she really trusts and listens to and, now that mum is gone and dad can't really cope with it, it is up to me to do something for her, if I can and if she'll let me. I walked in and sat down at the table with the laptop and just couldn't really move for three hours, poured some wine, fried an egg. Went to bed at just gone 9

    Pleasures for yesterday

    1. did some marking as I woke at 6 :( when will I get a lie in?
    2. soak in the bath and more hunger games. Poor Katniss, she does have a lot to put up with
    3. OH and I did the shopping - like an old retired couple :D I briskly did what needs doing, he wandered around browsing at this and that. Said Ald! is great as it has loads of things you didn't know you needed :p
    4. Then we went to the farm shop to buy pork and have lunch. We have a superb free range pig farm only a few miles away, you can see the pigs from the road, roaming freely in the fields with loads of room and the farm shop sells the meat. I wanted a shoulder and the one on the counter was too small "can I have something bigger"? says I. Sure says butcher and a moment later appears with half a pig on his shoulder - literally. There then followed a display of such skilled craftsmanship as I have seen (and I've seen plasterers at work - oh yes!) chopping and slicing, boning and rolling. I apologised to the lady behind me for holding her up. "Oh not at all" she said "it is mesmerising". She wasn't wrong. We got a shoulder of free range pork to feed 10 people for £15. Bliddy lovely it was too. We decided not to stop for lunch as there was a queue but bought a load of stuff off the deli counter and took it home to have. Pate, quiche, frittata, beef, coleslaw and some bread from the bakery. I wish I could afford to buy all of our food there.
    5. The pork was used in a dinner party we had, cooked as pulled pork but sliced as roast with the sauce as gravy. OUr wonderful friends joined us - 2 sets - and my goddaughter back from Uni for the weekend. it was a lovely evening. I made a rosemary and sea salt loaf to have with an oil and balsamic dip - it is safe to say it wasn't my most triumphant effort and they were pulling it apart and examining it like the great british bake off. Though it was a bit lost on me as I have never seen it. Funny though - it was all very good natured.

    And today

    1. a bit of a thick head, I decamped to the spare room early on in the night due to OH doing an impression of the pig :rotfl: woke up staring at my own hand which was alarmingly close to my face , couldn't work out what it was :o
    2. The university intranet was down so I couldn't access my marking :T:T
    3. OH and I walked down to friend's house in the lovely sunshine with goddaughter's handbag she'd left behind and stopped for coffee
    4. very exciting game of football that DS was in. Although the team snatched defeat from the jaws of victory - there was a littoral last minute goal - we were jumping up and down, yelling "come on Jord / Joe / josh" (seemed to cover most of the team! My DS is one of the Joe's) and the ref - cos we woz robbed
    5. Built the last of the Swedish furniture, DS chest of drawers, while OH cleared the kitchen and cooked lovely lamb for tea. A bit of role reversal but we are better that way round as the kids learn new swear words if OH builds furniture.

Three more weeks and things should calm down.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

What a heap of great posts!
Bagpuss and lisakay, you started an avalanche and I'm a hooker too, but watching me knit and crochet stresses conventionals out. As a leftie I've worked out my own way of adapting stitches/instructions as i hold wool in left hand. So, purl-done by knitting backwards along needle without turning.

    1. How come I seem to have run out of rice AND egg noodles?...during which search a retro Silver Needles crochet jacket pattern turned up under a heap of books. It's very right for now, might do it. Used Parisian pasta instead - v.g. with more hier soir chicken.

    2. Sung Eucharist this morning. Not many in number and a bit at sea at times, but the toussaint theme of lady vic's sermon was perfection. She'd carved a pumpkin, lit a tealight and there came a moment of epiphanic timing. As if the power had failed, the whole Church darkened just as she turned the pumpkin, to reveal a Cross and a word, at which point the Church flickered with this light only. 'Man plans, God laughs'?...let's just say that a big black sky stepped in.

    3. Long afters in Church, H had lost her ring somewhere and I suddenly found only one earring. I'd worn my carved polar bears danglies, given weather and temps...found earring later in driver door gutter. Rushed back in to pass luck onto H while it was still warm...no, don't know yet.

    4. Spent next 6 hours on this[for I's anniversaire]:
    http://thebakingpan.com/recipes/teas-mothers-day/raspberry-charlotte/#.Una803C8CKk
-and only now do I see Prep time given as :eek:10 hours!!!
On that basis I've haven't done badly, but what a palaver, esp. making the Ladyfingers first[no piping bag, so faffed about with 2 spoons and a knife]
Came to over 3 pages of close print-out! Needless to say, used recette as guide rather than Bible.
Well, it's done now and sitting o/n in fridge, with a little runt leftover[hmm, might have to test-drive]. Rest of the raspberry brandy which I also had to distil will be in separate little sauce jug, in middle of genoese circle.
I've never tempered eggs before in my life and prob.never will again.
Rang I, wished a Happies and said my thainnng will suitably mark 1st day of her new year demain, gave clues why, since she much enjoys my making of own rules for most things.
This woman is one of Life's Saints.

    5. Will just drape washing to dry. hwb already in bed. Montalbano still awaits, as does a new heap of No More Books[only 10:D] which I carefully managed not to confess to hier.

    Oh, this will be 6:

    Nearly missed out last year.

Night-night............with spooky men's chorale booming me out.

Tired! Here are my pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Listened to some of the Archers omnibus. Not all because the power decided it needed a little rest from 10am until this afternoon.

    3) Went to mum and dad's for lunch as their power was actually on today. (unlike last week where it was off 4 days).

    4) Walked brother's dog up to the green. Came back down, saw parents' neighbour walking the other way, talking to himself. His wife died a few months ago so this was worrying. I couldn't understand what he was muttering either...

...got closer and turns out he hasn't spoken Burmese for 50 years so was listening to a course on his ipod and repeating the phrases! He's a good hearted soul but so incredibly posh. He even says "what" at the end of sentences!

    5) School friend came over and boys came back from their intermittent stay at their father's.

    6) Made devilled mushrooms for tea with some cous cous. Carrot cake for pudding.

    7) Bigger son did all the homework that should have been done over half term. Design a new British flag then describe why you chose the colours/symbols that you did. Then write a 2 page diary entry as though you had moved from the countryside in Brazil to a shanty town in a city. Took well over 3 hours.
  • LFS - Awwh thanks x My tip for you ... take your red boots off when you get on the scales !!!:D

VJsmum- Yes,that is the patisserie . OH licks the window :rotfl:Must just be me then with the eyebrows ?! Are you the "practical , sensible one ?" .. me too in these situations, not so my own issues . Re the Tamworth .. you had your hand by your face to block out the air flow .Can't stand having face "blown" on..

Have a lovely day all !

Purple kitten - hope the sabbatical works out!
Frith - cleaning the bathroom an odd pleasure, but entirely get the satisfaction of a job done. Happy Party (worth all that shopping?!) Wonderful that parent's neighbour studying Burmese by ipod! Homework Sunday night, oh yes. Pleasure undoubtedly seeing it put away.
Skint yet Again - bag of books... <covet>
ampersand - raspberry charlotte, eh? Happy Communion! You knit & hook southpaw? Whyever not? (I'm righthanded but cackhanded & would be *safer* with a rugby ball than a hook.) A tempered egg <putters off to google..>
mhagster - ye gods. Still, soon as the uniform's gone, you return to civilian ife & can look for something you enjoy. Like a couple of days with the girls!
Broomstick - with you on the pleasure of just comtemplating raspberry charlotte & delighted to see tyou are waiting for news in the most constructive manner the weather allows! Owls hooting? Ace! Well done you coaxing your dad off the Independent hobby horse.
Chickenopolis - owch eyebrows, uh-oh kitchen chicken & How-does-he-do-that terrier!. Long ago formed the veiw that if we were supposed to tweeze, we'd be bald. Husband takes pliers to my chin occasionally, bless him. Hear, hear! on not being blown on.
BoP! Would you play Ny or Fy before Herself? Lest she ply you with coniines...
lovefullshelves - I tried vampire teeth & then mislaid them. Suspect children of raiding stashes & hiding the evidence. Orzo? <Googles> Looks intriguing! Still chuckling at laundry in greenhouse -lateral thinking at its best!
CCP - You enjoy this cat-related time - we are, vicariously. Tickling til she dribbles, eh? (I wonder if that would work on a child?)
lisakay - pyjama days sound like an excellent idea! I wouldn't dare call my cricheting friends hookers...
Tealady - my washed underthings are pegged out in a pillowcase as my grandmother taught me. She was a firm believer in the potency of imagination! (But then she also taught us about the oral contraceptive - you say "No".)
VJSmum - farm shops are wonderful! You do the flatpack building to prevent the little dears learning new words? Hm, Dad taught us de-flatpacking in self defence, but then he always swears in Russian...

    Sunday's OS Pleasures
Set split peas to soak for the first time. Are they *supposed* to froth or might I have not rinsed the jug out enough? Soapy peas, eek... (They weren't - husband found a recipe, results delicious!)

We've got a pulse. Indeed, soon a Pulses cupboard. Pinto, cannelli, black eye just for a start of names I can remember. Think I should invest in a couple more plastic jugs, overnight soaking for the use of. (I'll not mention what else they get used for in this household - I'm sure you'll have more fun speculating.)

The surprisingly polite comment when I turned off an unnecessary light without checking it was actually unnecessary. Proud of him!

Possible swap of cafetière for leather from crafting colleague/caffeine addict! All super hush til she's checked her stash - furniture grade, big slabs possible... (*Hours* of fun - all chaps aware leather "the plastic of history" & thus appropriate material for [almost] anything!)

Watching a Western a child snorted "who leaves an axe out like that?!" in tones of trenchant scorn & contempt. Proud of his awareness of the right treatment of tools. Just wish he respected the stuff on his bedroom floor...

"You haven't killed anyone in months" (RED 2). I *adore* John Malkovitch... The whole issues around claret are also very close to my heart. Antony Hopkins garbed in recognisable university boffin down to the little details - superb Wardrobe work.

Great big hugs to all who need them, safety to all in peril, & may our animals appreciate us!
