Afternoon all.
mhagster - sorry to hear about your job.It does sound like you're best off out of there, though.
Thanks for everyone's best wishes for New Cat Day - Isis is now here and seems quite content, although she's currently more interested in her new toy mouse than in me!
I really struggled to find the CP place again - I know there's a more direct route but I'm blowed if I can find it :undecided - but DF and I found a nice pub and had a very pleasant lunch en route.
Then over to the CP place, where I met the lady who caused me all the worry earlier in the week and she denied having said I couldn't have Isis. Luckily I mostly dealt with the lady who showed me round last week, so I didn't have to struggle to be polite to the manager after that!
Then home - DF carried Isis' box and she slept through most of the journey, and seemed perfectly happy the moment she arrived in my flat. She's still a bit nervous around me - she'll come up for a fuss, then change her mind and back away when I reach out to her - but I think she'll be fine quite soon.
Right, they're not numbered but I'm sure there are five pleasures there - I must go and put some music or something on before the fireworks start and make poor Isis even more jumpy!Back after a very long break!0 -
Good evening all !
Welcome ISIS:beer:
Mhagster - Hells teeth when are you going to have some luck??I am sorry to hear about the job xx
VJsmum- sounds like you had a fab time. I would have balled my eyes out re the tribute to your DM .But yesterday what went wrong ??
5 for yesterday
1. My DSis has had botox injections in her forehead and fillers in her lips :rotfl:You can imagine that I dined out on that little nugget of info! !
2. Terrier dragged me round round block , launching herself at cars , vans etc.
3. Takeaway
4. Day off
5.Much laughter with DSis on phone
back later -paella calling ..:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
(((((mhagster)))))
CCP I'm so pleased you've got Isis home.
Ampersand thank you so much for the ID 10 T error story -I copied it to DS2 (aka computer geek/whizz) and he loved it, laughed lots.:D
My five pleasures for Saturday:
1. Regular calls/texts from DS1 today giving me news of how things were going.
2. Trip into town to spend £15 in W'r vouchers that my mum had given me.
3. Discovered that our branch of W'r, although it doesn't have a cafe, has now installed a coffee machine so at long last I can claim my free coffees. Very nice coffee it was too. :T
4. Have begun gently to chip away at the C shopping list. It's at an all time minimum this year and my goal is to have absolutely everything except the fresh food sorted by the end of Nov. Now that we don't have a telly and rarely see adverts, the commercial impact is really reduced which is lovely.
5. Watching the latest 'Amazing Spaces' on 4od with the wonderfully creative treehouses. The mirror one was fantastic from outside. The modular beehive project was brill too but I wonder how well insulated the units were.
Sweet dreams

Isis has already discovered the bed and is currently curled up there, fast asleep. The CP told me she was a rather nervous cat - can't say I'm seeing it myself!
PS - I see Wales is currently getting a battering from a storm - hope you're OK, Frith.Back after a very long break!0 -
Didn't know you were another no-tele, broomstick, hence no licence fee. Ever grateful to bop for advising this. Excellent news re:your w8rs. Takeaway is what I do in Grafton Centre and take it to Library.
1. Non-stop day with early start. Hitched trailer, drove in to friends and shifted dismantled shed and other under 2 miles in 2 runs. Finished before 11, good coffee, garden talk. Clammy disgusting vile dripping low grey fog gave way to yellow thing on/off for lumps of day. Some mighty slate black downpours too.
2. 2 more bags of excellent remnants from X.
3. V.decent oak fire surround rescued from skip. Tip-top quality. well-shaped, carved and clean.
4. W8rs was heaving. Didn't stop for cappu. Asked little chap who was helping Mummy if he would be kind enough to choose me a tin of pineapple. He did, with deep seriousness and pride and thoughtful commentary. 'I'm 3, but when I grow up I won't be any more. When are you 3?'
6. Tummy comfy warm after delish concoction which we might as well pass off as Sweet and Sour Chicken, with digressions cacciatore. All the additions h-g excepting that pineapple. Loads to freeze and a glorious soup also mijoting, just the occasional bubble breaking a bare simmer surface. Not sure what ISN'T in it, everything else is...and a decent slurp of pinot grigio.
7. Picked another 100g raspberries, not many left now. They're in with last pears and French reines claudes[which I love].
8. Much looking forward to hwb, bed, all sorts of reading and listening and Montalbano catch-up early a.m. perhaps.
9. My Bank cards were still at w8rs when I suddenly realised I'd driven off without them, after a refunded overcharge took a while at c.s. Their tills were freezing all day.
10. Collected new lunettes - will use shortly:-)
May we now assume new Phan of Tim, mcculloch? Hope you listened to Storm, his 9-minute beat poem. I know I've put it here before.
Agree with you about that shameful story and worse, the gumment attempt to deny and taint the Macmillan report.
bop - have been hearing about world scrabble championships today. Why are you not entered with Empress Thwack in the Mixed Doubles?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-24784986
mhags - how I wish you had said this to her ' I am not going to be spoken down to by a woman who has sacked 11/14 staff in 2 months.' Attempt at restriction on who you spend non-work time with is extraordinary. Sounds like an envy/controller state. The right thing will happen: count this as one of them. Soft hugs to you and yours. btw, we'll take 16C....as I hear wild and turbulent wind roaring in to crash against squat. It's colder and colder, louder and louder.
Welcome, dear Isis. Come here any time you feel ccp's training needs to hit another gear. I found the perfect little book for you to give her today - will send it.:D So glad you're together at last, despite another inept female controller type clouding the mix.
Safe, snug, warm, content, mindful - tonight's wishes for everyone.

Lovely Isis, knows JUST what to do already, ccp. Your first wake-up with her tomorrow morning is going to be purry bliss. And she'll be lucky for your job hunt.
Yes, Frith - just as well you kicked those dodgy fence panels down already.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Evening
Mhagster - Hugs, sounds like you are better off out of that place, good luck with the job hunt
CCP - Welcome to Isis, she sounds lovely
Pleasures for the last week,
1. Lovely couple of days in Swansea with DD, very cheap break as my tickets and hotel were paid for by work but meeting was cancelled and all non-refundable so just had to pay for DD's train :money:. We had lovely walks along the marina and coast, enjoyed looking at the art that they have placed around the marina. Went to a local attraction which was like a rain forest inside, very cheap but interesting. Also went to the cinema using Orange wednesday of course.
2. Went out for dinner when we got back on Thursday as another one who doesn't do halloween. We brought what we didn't eat home for OH to have for his lunch on Friday.
3. Remembered to take lunch into work with me on Friday but met a friend for cake and coffee. One of our friend's works in Debenhams so we got a 40% discount in the cafe so only cost £2.10 for cake and coffee. Friend also let me use her card to get 20% off in the store so could get some bits to put away for DD for christmas.
4. Food shopping all done this morning and came in on budget which suprised me as stocked up on quite a few things.
5. While cooking dinner roasted some peppers, onions, courgettes and mushrooms to add to pasta for lunches. Now portioned up and in the freezer.
Hugs to all who need them0 -

Welcome isis
bop 1 point in it. Can feel you breathing down my neck!
mhags all the best with job hunting
1) washed and conditioned hair with freebie from hotel room
2) best friend came round and we walked the dogs in the rain
3) dried off, put the dogs away and we went to see the selfish giant. He'd forgotten his wallet lol but he's been extremely generous taking me out for meals and opera tickets i was more than happy to be able to pay for him without him protesting
4) then back to mine for coq au vin (made with chicken joints 30% off at l!dl) followed by stewed apple (from friend) and yoghurt. Was supposed to be crumble but the flour was old and had gone brown eeeuuuuu
5) and lovely friend, knowing it's a year since !!!!!! hit fan sent me some hotel chocolat choccies. Nom nom. It has indeed been tuff (xoh offered to move out after yet another row this morning - no decisions made).

I know it's Saturday as the computer says so, but I had Friday off & I'm half convinced it's Sunday. Apologies for any & all incoherence!
Broomstick - car passed MO?! Very happy Samhain! My husband is intrigued by your "green cleaning" example, so pointed him at website... Waitrose coffee is fun - one of my favourite freebies! No TV? MS! I keep hearing about Amazing Spaces - will try 4OD - thank you!
Frith - I do admire the way your sons assert themselves. Top parenting! Shopping for 5 hours - things we do for love.... With you that it doesn't Feel warm. Fence sorted - roof still on?!
DD - The Ambassadors has to be one fo the funniest shows on TV even if any quotes might upset forum filters! (All the funnier with payrise in wallet - well done you!) Proper night out & real food afterwards - atta girl!
kittikins - bribery is the best way - it's how I get mine to write thankyou letters.
Purple kitten - thank you! Work til 11?! Eek. Big warm ankle socks sound wonderful... Quiet Man the film I watch with Father-in-law.
sparrer - anaemia *&* osteoporosis - proof again (a) God is male & (b) not that bright an engineer. (If there are any devout believers, my apologies for upsetting sensibilities.) Coma surprisingly safe place most of the time. Any news of civil unrest, we'll know why.
mhagster - no equivalent of pumpkins for you? No large spud, or beet? Your garden sounds wonderful! Your ex-boss sounds like she should be pegged head down in the compost. Mind you, if she can lose that many staff in that many dsays, the banks & unions will do that to her for you. Love the idea of early morning cafe-ing with OH.
CCP - what luck with the taxi! Afternoon tea win - what fun! Moving? (Possibly.) Even with chickens? Isis has arrived! Via a pub lunch (excellent strategy.) And now staking a claim to your bed - *clearly* nervous & "finding it hard to adapt"!
Chickenopolis - great to hear Lauretta mending if not yet right! Paella? <covet!>
VJsmum - Really glad that your literary executor work hasmet with such a splendid reward! Sis saw Tim in Matilda & was knocked *sideways*. Hope wine sorted remains of bad day.
BoP - at the scrabble board may you lean undefeated! Is it possible to gain weight just reading posts? I'm certainly feeling underfed after reading your breakfast!
ampersand - among all your accomplishemnts you also reverse trailers? <slumps, awed> I am raising Erics. NZ family neighbour? Childhood fling? Primary school teacher? Right with you on passport & car. Admire your taste in recruiting temp staff!
lovefullshelves - what is a suitable collective noun for tractors? A devotion?! I've had a lot of fun in a blue wig <happy memories, surprisingly innocent> Reemember panda too - face paint and poster paint two different chemicals. Ooops & Owch, & Still had to wait...
mcculloch - I shout at radios too. Which I think is why the remaining working one is down in the kitchen out of earshot... White chocolate truffles - do you accept non-grandchildren as pupils? Mum & I trim each other's hair. Much calmer, cheaper & more friendly!
Tealady - Debenhams staff get 20% off? <brief squint at change of job> Roasted onions.... <mops keyboard>
bagpuss - come & share our triumphs & disasters!
Like I say, end of weekend feeling but it isn't! There's More!
Friday OS Pleasures
Day off as its half term. Lounged in bed til After Ten! Sleep, rattling good yarns, Just Not Getting Up is such a treat!
Youngest is working through a survey (Nielsen studying 11-14 year olds): "Have I got split ends?" enquired my recently cropped little blighter. Better, (or worse!) was listening him struggling to spell out contraception: "why don't they *say* condoms then?!"
Attended in-laws as bidden. Hours later, replete & with inward prayers of relief that my tyres had recent pressure checks, we loaded the boot with the "few things" she'd picked up for us. She was "glad to have the space", we're delighted not to have to shop for a week at least! (Mild pang of "all the hours I work to feed them" quashed on grounds of shameful ingratitude.)
We have more unlabelled packets of white powder than the Bad Guys in a good noir. (We're gradually working through the kitchen cupboards & have arrived at flour spices & packets unspecified...) Our collection of immaculate ziplocks might give Plod a pause, too, but at least we're Beginning to label. At last.
Meters read & readings submitted - gods a smartphone is a godsend for the "sited by Tall" meters. I stretch, tap & check the photo, (swear & repeat with flash). Done!
Saturday OS
Beautiful Autumn morning - sunshine, clear blue skies, not quite freezing!
Charity shop win - little brass candlestick that not only has cleaned up something heartwarming, but has a lifting mechanism now working.
Found Tshirt transfer sheets in another charity shop - lads now plotting assorted designs/statements... (This would be funnier if their spelling was not so idiosyncratic.)
Rousing thunderstorm! Family were fawning on me (& iPad) like cats wanting food! (House rule - lightning means no TV aerial.) Fun to watch the lightning though, so not too much fuss I'd nothing new (then).
Trying to explain physics (density) to son. Several pictures helped, and I think the idea of sugar lumps in teacups (or buckets) *may* have helped further. I'm struggling to link that to the Big Bang though - I'm not sound on it!
Big hugs to all who need them, big welcome to Isis, & best of luck to all in or out of this weather!0 -
Bagpuss: Lovely of you you to de lurk, and I occasionally look back at my posts on here, that started an through a particular low that changed things, and it does good to remember the good and even bad times that lead to the good.
CCP: and Isis welcome to a fantastic home, sounds wonderful, unlike the lady from CP, some people are just very very odd.
McHags: Really sorry about the job, but glad you did what s right for you.
Ampersand: Wow the oak surround sounds like a fantastic find, well done.
1. We woke up a lot later than I had wanted thanks to long work hours last week.
2. I was getting a bit of cage rage so we went out, and ended up in Thurrock, we need some large items and have researched them for a while now, but after spending a few hours in Curry’s and nearly losing my temper, we got a starbucks which wasn’t bad. We bought DH a laptop which is an investment for us hence why we took a very long time to buy it as we tend to buy these things to last as long as possible the last one is 10 years old and very unhappy, and it’s what I had planned on getting today so pleased with that, and we got a £10 voucher.;)
3. We meandered around ikea, but only came out with a bit of food and drink, warm apple juice, some sparkly inkahol and some amazing tasting biscuits.:D
4. Enjoyed coming back to a relatively peaceful home as it was so busy at the shops, full of people letting their children run riot not my idea of fun, but ignoring that it was nice to get out.
5. Feeling very content really all things considered,:o we had a good old natter while we were out and we are considering taking a self inflicted 6 months off, type of sabbatical with DH next year if things work out of course and DH is very happy with the idea just have to see now, these things have a way of messing up sometimes. Hoping we will get to do it.0
