    Good morning everyone.

I hope you all had a nice weekend. Mine was fine until my mobile phone did a lemming impression while I was cleaning the loo - you can probably guess where it ended up.:o It's currently drying in front of the radiator at home but I've got a horrible feeling either the impromptu swim or the wash with disinfectant will have killed it. Oh well, I wanted a new one anyway. ;)

    My five for yesterday:

    1) The moment, about lunchtime, when my cat finally went to sleep, having yowled practically non-stop since 9am, simply because he likes the noise (and, being part-Siamese, he can really yowl).

    2) Changed the bed, which I had been intending to do since last weekend (there was a bit of a delay as what I thought was a clean sheet was actually a duvet cover, and it took me a week to get a sheet washed and dried).

    3) Cleaned most of the black mould off the bedroom walls, a job I've been putting off for several weeks.

    4) Popped down to the second-hand book stall in the market to look for a particular book - they didn't have it and I managed to resist the temptation to buy something else instead. :j

    5) Made some olive bread rolls for dinner, and they came out really well even though I forgot the second rising they were supposed to have before going in the oven.

    6) Walking home after the pub quiz and hearing the waves hitting the beach - it's just a nice reminder that I live at the seaside now (and have done for more than 6 years, but it still feels special :)).

sparrer - I hope you didn't sleep too badly after your scare yesterday. Please report them - you shouldn't have to feel frightened in your own home.

Acey - my thoughts are with you for the funeral today. I hope everything goes smoothly, at least.
Back after a very long break!
  • Ollie thanks for your thoughts re my aunt. She has her name down for a nursing home in Birmingham but there are no beds at the moment. I think the hospital will be assessing her 'future' this week, but she is 120 miles away from me so I have little imput.
Acey thinking about you and your family today. Sorry about your Dad with shingles.
Sparrer ((((((hugs)))))) - what a fright. What a world.

    Yesterday's pleasures:-

    1. Seeing the polyanths I have planted in a tub by my front door, peeping through the snow which had fallen on them overnight. They're hopeful of spring and so am I

    2. Heavy fall of snow overnight transformed the world into a winter wonderlland, then:-

    3. Melted away before it could cause too much disruption.

    4. Lovely half price roast shoulder of lamb for lunch. I know that even at half price it is still in the luxury class for some, but with clever use of leftovers and some frugal meals for the rest of the week, I can just about make it pay.

    5. Thinking how I can make use of what I have i.e. spare material into cushion covers and the fruit in the freezer into jam to use up my ever growing array of saved jam jars

I'm away now to see if I can turn all this surplus into pleasures.

    Bella.

    Hi all

savingforoz, so sorry that the "Interview With The Vampire" ;) did not go well, but well done for cutting your losses and best wishes for Possible Mr Right, nothing wrong about being picky on looks, it is your prerogative!

Sparrer, what a fright you must have got, and what a shame that you had to cancel your event out of fear. What horrible people inhabit the world and make a nuisance for good honest people!

CCP, ooooops for the phone lemming - once it is dry you can take it back to your provider and depending on the contract you might even be able to get a free replacement. Good luck on this!

Acey, my thoughts are with you and your family on the sad day of your Granny's funeral. (((HUGS)))

tabskitten, thank you for your kind words! Yes I have had a lot of good things happening and I am very grateful for the beauty of my life. I feel truly blessed.

Here are my pleasures for the day:

1 - Breakfast of two thick slices of Italian country bread from the Farmers Market - yummy! With low fat spread and marmite. I know, not very Italian, Marmite, but I love it all the same!

2 - Managed to get a couple of hours work done in the morning before the meeting with my boss in the afternoon, so I got a few brownie points (and a few more hours under the belt!).

3 - As I did not have the time to have lunch at home I treated myself to a roasted veg, artichokes and sundried tomato toasted ciabatta in a cafe, it was great and not too expensive.

4 - Waiting for my boss I treated myself to a cup of tea and a piece of carrot cake, unusually it was dairy-free so I ate it without worry that it would upset my stomach. It was really nice.

5 - The meeting with the boss went very well. From feeling that I might have to change jobs, now I feel that this woman is going to bring change for the better in our organisation and I am really starting to like her. She is very thoughtful and respectful of boundaries, and she is very competent and does what she promises to do. I am impressed.

6 - Tonight the new series of 5 ballroom sessions starts again, will go with DH, can't wait!

    Good night everybody xxx

Evening everyone from a happy Ladyhawk!!

He was soooooo much better than I expected... easy on the eye, lovely broad shoulders, quiet but with a bit of spark and umph. We are seeing each other again on Friday :)

    So my pleasures:

    1) Meeting the lovely Kiwi Boy...

    2) 11 hour work day... but got loads done. I was supposed to go to the launch of Fairtrade Fortnight but I had too much to do in the office and didn't fancy dicing with with trains in this weather.

    3) I'm thoroughly enjoying my trashy novel

    4) Getting to work in one piece without any delays despite the snow's best efforts... I left early for a change a missed a massive accident that closed the road and delayed some of my colleagues for over an hour

    5) Hearing that my friend has not had to put her beloved cat down. The cancer hasn't returned and little Fudgey is absolutely fine.

All in all a good day.

    Hope you are all well

    L

Oh and the nice man I am buying the doors from has offered my extra one to someone else, so I only have to have two of them - phew!

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

Ooh, so exciting, Ladyhawk...could you maybe clone him, or does he have an identical twin brother? :D

    Glad all went well!

  • ACEY thinking of you and your family
Ladyhawk great to hear about your lovely Kiwi
Ollie thanks for your kind words
savingforoz glad to hear you had a good time, hope next date is an improvement on the creature of the night ;)

    Mine for today:
    1) tea and toast in bed
    2) cuddles from dd this morning
    3) lunch with work colleague, hot chocolate with cream at Costa Coffee
    4) dd(5)'s parent consultation today went well, she just needs to stop rushing things and focus
    5) The Gadget Show
"We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright
  • Fraid my day of making something from not very much at all didn't materialise as I spent rather a long time on the phone talking peeps through their problems. Hope I helped.

    My pleasures? Well.....,

    1. Making two large loaves and a dozen rolls.

    2. Making date wholemeal scones.

    3. Clearing the ironing.

    4. LO lamb for tea with roast potatoes, just like another Sunday Lunch.

    5. Doing some more of my crochet ripple blanket, I suppose that falls into the category of making something from not very much as it is largely made from LO yarn. I had aimed to do so much more, but tomorrow is another day.....,

    Bella.
