Olliebeak- thanks, it is sometimes easier said then done and i am really glad now that i listened to my market a bit more- as a chef it is all too easy sometimes to think that you know better than your eaters what you think they should be eating.....

    Ok 5 for today!

    1. Made a 14 year old very happy by giving him a free muffin that needed to be sold by the end of the day anyway as not open tomorrow.......

    2. His dad was so impressed by my kind gesture that he bought the rest of the muffins on the shelf saying he would take them home!:T

3.4 packs of 6 Asda own brand cornettos for £3!!!

    4. Day off tomorrow feeling i have just now......

    5. I get a bit of JD tonight as its Saturday and the only night i can not have to get up at the crack of dawn tomorrow!!:j
    :silenced:

  • Thanks to all who have posted kind thoughts re my aunt. Unfortunately the picture is not looking good. It would appear highly unlikely that she will ever be able to go back to her flat but at the moment we don't have an alternative. Hope something is resolved soon though as the care she is receiving in hospital could be better and I can only see her deteriorating rapidly as things are.

Soooo a little hard to find pleasures but:-

    1. Pleased to have been able to make this trip to see her. This could not have happened when DH was working, so that's a bonus.

    2. Managed to keep costs to a minimum with self catering.

    3. A pleasant journey back home in the sunshine.

    4. So lovely to be home.

    5. All bags emptied and everything put away, tea cooked and eaten and all the veggies prepped for tomorrow and me sitting down.

    Bella.

  • Mine for today:
    1) tea and porridge in bed
    2) library saying no problem and not fining us when we returned water-damaged book this morning
    3) getting 'Blade Runner', Oscar Pistorius' biography from the library, looking forward to reading it
    4) dd very happy with a 90p sticker book from Sainsbury's
    5) getting odd bits of washing up and ironing done whilst dp at work today

"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright
  • Hello, everyone. I'm just snatching a couple of spare moments to recall my OS pleasures for today. I'm doing my utmost to stay positive, so here goes:

    1) Sending an email to my friends with my mealplan, how to make the dishes on there and feeling good about trying to inspire. Hopefully I won't come across as being a bore! I get warm and fuzzy feelings from helping people like this.
    2) Getting a voucher for a free pack of Tassimo discs redeemed at Mr T. We've now got some lovely latte to have with some homemade gingerbread syrup - mmm!
    3) Finding 5p on the floor. Always a bonus.
    4) Getting some more sewing done. It's really starting to take shape - now all I need to do is keep myself from giving it to my Mum early!
    5) Last night I made enchiladas from scratch by mixing half a carton of passata with some fajita seasoning and grated cheese. That was the sauce for chicken chunks, and slices of onion, mushroom and pepper. All of that was wrapped parcel-like in soft tortillas, topped with more sauce and more grated cheese and grilled. And it was good. DH's verdict? "You can do this again!"

Cue happy smiling face. Have a good evening everyone.

    Hi All, Happy Saturday!

    5 for today

    1. Sold 11 things on Ebay with bids on 2 more! :j
    2. One bag for the charity shop, and one bag to hand on to a friends children.
    3. 2 more gift sets from Body Shop for free.:money:
    4. Bit of spring cleaning in bedroom has made space. (more stuff for Ebay and charity bag).

    5. Trip to Costco, lots of free samples. Cheap dog food, and realised that the breakfast cereal I was about to buy was more expensive than the supermarket so put it back.:money:

Thanks for the link Ollie , I did wonder what that was! Looks like a possibility! Sparrer - shame the saving doesn't count towards your total. Still moving in the right direction though! Sounds an interesting challenge. It would be a fun way of tracking just how much the freebies, coupons and Ebay boost our income. :money:
Oops! Sounds like I'm obsessed with money today!:o Try to be a bit more zen tomorrow.

Off for an early night as I don't feel v well. That 'back to school' psychosomatic illness again.....:o

    Night x
  • 1) A friend from church accosting me in the street and telling me to get to a shop that was having an amazing sale. I got a £135 pair of boots for £20. DD got a similar pair today.
    2) Meal out last night with the Third Musketeer and her husband. They are having to move way down south so every evening spent in their company is a bonus.
    3) A lovely walk in the sunshine at a local beauty spot today. Well worth the car parking fee. We had a mile by a babbling brook, which turned into half a mile through a completely silent pine forest with snow still on the branches, then another mile over the moor. Amazing.
    4) The lovely people who a) told us that I had left my camera on a seat half way up a hill and that a lady in a red coat was taking it to the cafe and b) the lady in the red coat and her husband, who were so happy when we caught up with them and wouldn't even have a cup of coffee on us. I am so grateful and it really renews my faith in the great British public.
    5) The happy thought that the blue wool I almost gave away could actually be dyed, so I might be able to knit myself a jumper after all. Any easy patterns, anyone? I'll look at the knitting thread. Anyway, the Third Musketeer has been asked to knit a sausage dog draught excluder (?!) so she took all the brown wool. I'm interested to see how it turns out.

    5 for today!

    1) No more snow although some forecast for the middle of the night. We're all worrying about getting to Grandma's funeral on Monday. Not only am I high up this end (in the country) but the aunty I am picking up is also in a snowy spot at the other end (Sedgley).

    2) Had another semi-lie in.

    3) Went swimming with my brother and saw someone who went to school with me decades ago swimming with HIS children.

    4) Finished up the pancakes from Shrove Tuesday for tea. (N.B they had been in the freezer between then and now!)

    5) Carried on with the tidy so I did my room. Moved all the furniture and cleaned, dusted and hoovered everywhere. Cleaned all the drawers out, little son cleaned the mirror and I changed the bed.

    6) All sat in my bed to watch Casualty on the laptop. Both sons very happy and cuddly. Bigger son went to bed afterwards but little son fell asleep afterwards so is still in here (can you tell I haven't got out of bed after Casualty...?)

    L

and 7)! When I drove back from swimming at 5.30, it WASN'T DARK!!!! And the sunset was lovely over the snow.

stupid chest playing up but wanted to post so here's my [STRIKE]5[/STRIKE] 6 very briefly
    1. The sunshine and fresh air
    2. 2 lots of washing dried on the line
    3. Went to Mr M for a lottery ticket (that reminds me, haven't checked it yet) passed the bread dept where a lad was marking things down. I got 4 packs of 2 ciabatta rolls, or pillows as we call them, for 9p each instead of 59p, a date and walnut cob - interesting - for 29p instead of 99p, and a 15" fresh cream and jam sponge for 99p instead of £3.99p, saving £5.70! Most of the above is in the freezer including the sponge which I cut into 6 big wedges first.
    4. Watched East Enders Weakest Link, not feeling up to much but it made me laugh :D
    5. Finding a link on one of the forums for everything on ebay @99p and under...should have bookmarked it but nothing I want/need atm so perhaps just as wel I didn't
    6. looking forward to a better day tomorrow :D
    night night (((hugs)))everybody take care

Evening all  - think we're in for a very cold night - wheelie bin lid is already frozen shut HSshiver.gif.

EC12345 - wd to you on beating the grocery budget this month and wd to your OH on re-sealing the shower tray :T.
grandmasam - welcome back from your trip to Germany - and how lovely of your ds and ddil to clean the carpets for your return :j.
Mr Lahey - Sorry to hear your dkids have driven you potty this half-term - how well I remember those frustrations with my own children. If it's any consolation, it's not just your kids - other people feel just the same about the subject of 'kids and half-term hols'. I'm the eldest of four (two sisters and a brother) and there was absolute MURDER in our house in the hols. Mum'd be out at work all day and dad trying to sleep because he was an all-night tanker driver - usually Hazardous Chemical Tankers). When we were really bad, we'd be barred from the house until 4.00pm when dad got up. We'd go for long country walks and look for paid work on farms. No way would that be allowed these days - H&S would ban it. Any money we earned went to mum and she'd give it back to us for cinema treats when the weather was too bad for walks. I'm sure that, deep down, they all love and respect each other very much and YOU too.
CCP - Hey, no problem finding the chaos funny. There were three of us watching all the shenanigans, choking back the laughter and couldn't wait for the last car to turn the corner so we could dare to breathe again. Certainly no disrespect for the lady who had died, just the antics of the mourners ;). There's so much other stuff surrounding the whole situation that I can't relate, that just defies belief - but then again there's NOTHING that people do that surprises me any longer, old cynic that I am. Wish we could have windows open here - but no chance yet - just about able to have air vents open ;). wtg on doing some surveys :j.
GirlySquare - no problem - it's very easily done on here :).
Ladyhawk - sounds as though I should be taking a look at this programme ;). What a kind couple you met through Freecycle :).
newlywed - good to hear that your OH has got the chance of some paying jobs :T.
pepsimax62 - wd on being able to 'dry outdoors' - can't wait for it to get that warm here - love to see the washing on the line :j.
Reverbe - awwwwww I remember going to see 'Love Story' at the pictures when it first came out - I thought the ending with Ryan O'Neal sitting by the outdoor Ice Rink in Central Park, was one of the saddest I'd ever seen. Sounds like you and flatmates friends had a great evening and wd to Fulham continuing in the FA Cup.
nuttybabe - awwwww shame about now having more ironing :(. aaaargh - I didn't see any £2 chickens in our Asda yesterday - then again, I haven't any space in the freezer for any - wd you on getting a couple :T.
tabskitten - hope you enjoy your day off tomorrow .
bella - so sorry to hear that things aren't really looking up for your aunt - is there any chance of some 'residential rehab' for a while to see if they can get some improvement? Sometimes this is available through a Residential Home via Social Services OR through the NHS via a Hospital - including your aunt in prayers.
Kitchenbunny - wd on the home-made enchiladas  and good luck with the rest of your sewing :).
house elf - wd on your Body Shop freebie gift sets :T and hope you can manage to visit the Conservation Centre - nothing like viewing the x-rays of an Egyptian Mummy around lunch-time :rotfl:.
Patchwork - shame that your friend is moving so far away, but great that you've had the opportunity to bid her a 'fond farewell' - wtg on getting your camera back :j.
ACEY - Hope the snow holds off, at least until AFTER Grandma's funeral on Monday. Wd on your spring cleaning session with your sons :T.
jollymummy - wd on having your Mum to stay over and great that you got to see the Hairy Bikers :j.
sparrer - wd on your Mr M's whoopsies :T - hope the Lottery Ticket was kind to you ;).

I'm so tired that I'll have to post mine in the moring - need my bed right now. Nitey nite - love Ollie xxx
