My 5 for today, and a report on my lunchtime date for those of you who requested it!

Well, he was pleasant enough, but not for me. We only had one drink and by the time we'd finished that it was apparent that we were looking for different things. The whole date only lasted 40 minutes! During that time I was trying to think who he reminded me of. It was only when I got home that it came to me, and this isn't going to sound good!! Do any of you know the old black and white vampire film (made in the 1920s I think) called Nosferatu? Well, he was a dead ringer for the vampire Nosferatu  (obviously minus fangs and long nails!) and it didn't help that he was wearing black! And he ordered a Bloody Mary as his drink as well!

Things got better this evening, however. I had a phone conversation with somebody who sounded lovely, we chatted well and it seems like we have plenty in common. He said he'd send me a piccy and I said OK - now this is where I have a tendency to be a bit shallow, and reject someone because their photo doesn't appeal. Anyway, it arrived, and he's not bad, not bad at all ;)...watch this space! (It would serve me right if he takes one look at my piccy and runs screaming for the hills...)

    So my 5 for today:

    1. My lunchtime date, which, although he wasn't Mr Right, did clarify some things about what I'm looking for.

    2. My phone call tonight with Mr Possible!

    3. Meeting some new people and their lovely Persian cat, Nina, who I'm going to be doing some cat-sitting for.

    4. Feeling generally chirpy and on top of the world today :D.

    5. Having a bit of a lie-in this morning (well, it is Sunday...)

Enjoy what's left of the weekend, everyone!
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

    Evening everyone,

    Mine for today,
    1. YS Carribbean fruit bun toasted for breakfast. DD not usually keen on fruit loaf but asked for seconds of this one . Wouldn't want to pay full price though at over £2 a loaf:eek:
    2. Bumped into an old work collegue so went for a coffee and catch up.
    3. Few YS bargains in small Mr.T and Somerfield. Meal plan changed yet again for this week.
    4. YS Beef Wellington for dinner. Nice and easy dinner plus a bargain.
    5. Washing dinner down with a nice glass of red wine

Oh well back to work tomorrow no more lovely lie ins for me:(

Hugs to all who need them especially Acey, thinking of you and your family tomorrow.

    Evening all

    Mine for today -

    1 A lie in! :T

2 Going out for the day, we had a packed lunch so didnt buy food or drinks whilst we were out. The kids really enjoyed themselves and I got to put off the ironing for another day!! :rotfl:

3 Day 1 of challenge not to spend money a success!! Yay!! Even resisted when dh said we would be driving past a huge sainsburys and did i want to pop in!!!

4 Totally up to date on my washing! I do not have enough for a full load of anything! Cant remember the last time that happened! Might not even have to do any washing tomorrow!!

5 A lovely roast chicken (£2 from mr a) for tea with enough leftovers for tea tomorrow and 1 day of lunches and everyone ate it even dd. :j

Back to my crocheting. Have a lovely evening everyone!
  • 1) Finished the first part of the rib for my jumper. I found it quite satisfying although I am a very inefficient knitter. I did try learning other techniques from YouTube but it seems that pearl stitch is always the same so I'm sticking to English knitting.
    2) DS's gf has now got the hang of crochet - thanks to a lesson from me ages ago. It's nice to think that a new skill has been passed on.
    3) Snow. It meant that we had an unexpected lie-in and DH had to drive me to Tesco because I'm a bit cowardly now. Got the shopping done in half the time due to extra help.
    4) Harry Potter soup for tea - onion, carrot, cabbage, tomatoes, pasta and beans. I just love a home made soup with a hm fruit cake and some cheese for Sunday tea.
    5) Blow-dried my hair with DD's vented brush and it came out OK. Unfortunately, I do have very sticky-out hair and I don't like to straighten it all the time, so there may be an alternative.

An odd assortment but it's been a quiet day. Have a lovely evening.

    5 for Sunday!

    1) Bit of a lie in, last one for a while.

    2) Dropped the spare child's car seat off at my "Auntie's" so she can pick the boys up from school tomorrow while I'm at the funeral. She said if it snows (it is supposed to) and school is shut, she will have them for the whole day! We used to live next door to her when I was little, its a semi detached cottage and so I know how lovely the orchard is, and all the sheds for playing in :-) and she will spoil them. They still talk about the lovely day they had playing there when it was my Grandad's funeral.

    3) Went swimming with my brother afterwards. My swimming costume is years old and going a bit transparent, especially over the parts where it is "under strain". I really need a new one. I swam underwater past my brother and his swimming shorts had almost entirely come apart down one seam - thank goodness for the liner thing underneath! He said they were OK yesterday. :-D

    4) Went to mum and dad's for tea and watched "Gremlins". We were all rather quiet which is a change as we usually keep having to "shush" one another when a film is on. Dad has shingles. :-(

    5) Got home and finished The Borrowers and little son fell asleep while I was reading it.

    6) Had phone calls from my sister and my school friend that cheered me up.

    7) Going to have a nice bath now then go to bed and listen to the Archers.

    L

P.S Thanks for the good wishes, am not looking forward to tomorrow. I think the reason I haven't really been upset so far (too much) is that it just seems preposterous that Grandma can actually have died - she was always too busy! But tomorrow is going to be very final :-(

Ollie the silly girl in the shop gave me the wrong lottery ticket - again! :D
EC12345 I get asked if I get bored with eating curry three days running. You sound like me, and my answer is Never!
You can't win 'em all savingforoz but sounds like you've got another one on the back burner...go for it :T. Can't wait to hear how ladyhawks evening went
Bless you ACEY, your Grandma may not be here in person any more but I'm a believer of the afterlife and feel sure she's still with you all.

I can't write 5 tonight as it's been a bit of a scary evening - I was having a cuppa with my DNeighbour when there was a bang on her door. She answered and two scuffy individuals said they were sorry but they were trying to open the door opposite (the houses share a porch and the front doors face each other) so the daughter of the house could get in as she had the wrong keys. My neighbour asked their names which they confirmed. She sarcastically thanked them for breaking into her house 2 weeks ago to which they replied 'it were that stupid old woman next door what said it were us and it weren't. We wuz arrested but they 'ad to let us go for lack of evidence'. Imagine their surprise when I went to the door. One muttered and turned away, the one who was very obviously coming down from a high got all jittery and mouthy...I can't repeat his language but suffice to say I was told I'd be dead within a couple of years, I was a stinking old w hore, etc etc...DNeighbour shut the door in their faces and I was okay til I got home. Now I've bolted all the doors, left the sitting room light and television on and come up to bed but not feeling too clever. Thank goodness for thecompany of cats and dog, he's got a lot of bark in him but just a pity he's 11" high to the shoulder :rotfl:. The worst of it is I'm supposed to go away for a convention with my fellowship in just under 2 weeks and I've cancelled, I daren't leave the house empty. These people have no idea how long their actions affect us...

I won't go on, this isn't the right place and I sincerely apologise for my rant

Night night (((hugs))) everyone, and stay safe

ps it wasn't me, in fact, it was a lady over the road! Just thought I'd clear my name :o

Good morning  everybody - can't believe I'm sitting here at silly o'clock. Was in bed by 11.30 (early for me!) then woke at 4.15 and couldn't get back to sleep again . Can't think of a better way to try to tire myself a little than sitting on here for a few minutes ;).

EC12345 - Certainly nothing lazy about watching the Olympics after all that work you've done - good for you, all those meals sorted for the week :j.
Tealady - wtg on being flexible enough with your mealplan that you can change it to take account of whoopsies. That's exactly how I work things :). No way could I walk past a whoopsie just because it wasn't on the plan. That Beef Wellington sounds lovely - we had a whoopsied one for Christmas Lunch a couple of years ago - but no way would I buy one full price OR spend all that money on the ingredients, just in case I made a mess of making it.
Ladyhawk - hope all went well with your date - fingers crossed. Can you re-advertise one of your book-case doors?
GirlySquare - :j on treating the family as a result of the PPI refund - and hope all works out well where your mum is concerned. You, your sister and auntie all need to stick to your guns - your mum HAS to be priority not your step-dad or his family's wishes.
Caterina - wd on your freebie hair-do :T - and great news about your visit to the osteopath. Good Luck to you and your 'doula lady' for when the time arrives.
    gsysezz - hello
pepsimax - such self-restraint in Wilkies - wish I could go in there and come out with just the one item ;).
savingforoz - awww what a shame about your date - but at least neither of you wasted the other one's time. Maybe your Mr Right is waiting for you somewhere on the itinerary for your Big Trip - you never know ;). Hope you and Nina enjoy the cat-sitting.
nuttybabe - wd on a great family day out, not spending any money, resisting the offer of 'Sainsbugs' AND a lovely meal when you returned home.
Patchwork - wd on getting on with your knitting and on passing the art of crochet on to your ds's g/f :j.
tabskitten - hope you can re-arrange your 'Ladies Day' for another time - maybe, in view of the bad weather, it was just as well .............. AND it gave you valuable time to yourself :). Good Luck with the housing market and finding new tenants.
ACEY - Special Hugs for you for Monday - it must be good to know that your boys are in loving hands while you're going to be pre-occupied.
sparrer - so sorry to hear about your fright - did you and neighbour report this to the police? They really need to know that these individuals are hanging around causing a distress/nuisance - does your local authority (or Housing Trust) have an 'Anti-Social Behaviour Policy' - they also need to be aware that you feel uncomfortable in your own home. I know what it's like to live in an area where you can't trust neighbours and their families. When we go away on holiday, we never ring the local taxi firm because one of the drivers lives across the road from us and all his family are 'scallies of the first order' - we rely on DS1 or DS2, but they fully understand the problem.

Hope all is well with everybody - I'm now going to try for an hour on the sofa before I actually need to be having a shower. Speak again later, Ollie xxx

Good Grief - Rained all night and pouring again now! Finding it a bit hard to see the positive in this - especially as I have to dog walk in a mo and let dejected chickens out (there is nothing quite as droopy as a hen looking at the prospect of a wet day!) But hey ho - good day yesterday:
    1. I love the first feel of clean ironed sheets
    2. Ran in the rain with my yellow glasses on - great
    3. Over cooked the sweet and sour chicken but it was yummy - almost caramelised
    4. Worked the numbers and we can afford to help the kids out by buying the house next door to them for an eventual knock through (but will have to be very very frugal-watch this space)
    5. Almost finished the jumper sleeves for dgs.

So trying for another 0SD today (had 2 last week) and eating from the cupboards and freezers - see 4 above!

:-)) Even in the gloomy rain I have a wonderful life and live in a super place!
    Have a good week everyone.

  • Hi everyone,
I've not posted for ages, but would like to get back into this and be thankful for what I have.
    Yesterdays were:
    1) Having a lovely long bath with a good book while my hubby looked after the boys
    2) Spending a lazy day at home watching Disney films and not spending any money :T
    3) Finally getting DS2s cot put up in our room. Poor baby was so heavy for his Moses basket it was bowing in the middle :rotfl:
    4) Having a lovely dinner courtesy of hubby and some reduced goodies
    5) DS2 sleeping really well in his cot once he'd got over the surprise of not being able to touch the sides :rotfl:
Mummy to 3 fabulous boys all under 4
