evening all
I had one of the more common surnames before I got married, but now have a relatively unusual one. Don't tell the OH, but I prefer the old name as it goes better with my first name, and everyone can spell it. i did consider not changing it but felt it would be too complicated and offend too many people
Sorry you are feeling under the weather, CCP and Skint
Chicken - the trouble with being someone who gets things done, is that you are someone who gets things done. OOh are the blackberries out? I must go and have a look
PK, i have very fond memories of Margate, my nan used to take us to Dreamland every year (she used to call it "Marg!t" and "Ramsg!t"). We went for the day, me and my brothers and my cousins, it was our only holiday for many years. I guess that is what makes me so cross with my DS being so ungrateful. I took my 2 for a ride on the scenic railway a few years ago, but it was a sad indictment (sp?) of what it had been. it still has one of the best beaches, though - doesn't it? One year my auntie (who was childless, but fairly flush) took me to a hotel for a few days, in Cliftonville, my but I thought we were posh!
Where's Ampersand?
Today's pleasures
1. I have my laptop back :T Friend's son has mended the broken screen and so saved me a lot of money (though it has cost a pretty penny to mend)
2. Cleaned and tidied bedroom, landing and lounge. FN coming on Friday as we are off to Wales on Sat for a week (i know, i know - life is one long holiday with the odd week at work) so DD cleaned and tidied the spare room for her, as it was she who untidied it.
3. Took DS clothes shopping , it was a mission in spending the most amount of money in the least possible time I think. But job done and he has a winter coat (the hardest thing to get him to buy, he has very few since he has been old enough to express an opinion and just makes do), some chinos, a few shirts, some pumps, some trainers and some football boots. Not cheap but he will only come a couple of times a year, so i have to make the most.
4. Risotto for tea (always pronounced Riz oh toe here - shades of the Simpsons, apparently), chicken for the kids, veggie for us. I love cooking risotto - it's so relaxing (and you have to throw in a couple of glasses of white wine, so obviously it has to
be tested:beer:)
5. My new knitting project arrived, an aran jumper in a shades of blue yarn.
Results day tomorrow :eek:I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Pleasures for Wednesday.
1) Builder here! Kitchen now looks appalling. Only the washing machine and fridge left in there. Walls got a roughish layer of plaster on.
2) Went to a district council run course locally doing pond dipping.
3) Sandwiches from Sainsburys as no kitchen or running water.
4) Went to mum and dad's for a cup of tea. Checked the slow worm traps and there were loads.
5) Fish and chips for tea.
Builder back at 8.30 tomorrow and hopes to finish the plastering by the end of the day. "Just" the cupboards, work surface and electrics to do on Friday!0 -
1. Mowed the lawn, did the edges, swept the patios, threw away a lot of old tubs/pots in prep for the landscapers coming on Monday. They're going to turn the garden upside down so don't know why I bothered, it's a bit like dusting before the cleaner comes
2. Picked a bowl of Tom Thumbs, they're so sweet I can't resist taking one or two when I have to go to the fridge
3. Spag with a chicken & tomato sauce for dinner, used a 19p pack of spag to see what it's like (it was okay), dried garlic from a huge £1 tub, scraps of chicken from the carcass and hg toms so with a spoonful of olive oil, salt etc., dinner cost about 13p for a big plateful
4. Gave a talk this evening, on the strength of which I've now been invited to give two more at other venues. DM always said I was vaccinated with a gramophone needle
5. Penny jar emptied and counted, there's £47 to bank tomorrow
Sweet dreams0 -
Arrived home from a three day treat with the oh to find the house still standing & pets healthy (Left DS in charge) :j
Credit card bill waiting for us, nil to pay as I've been such a good girl this last month
Car tax bill too, oh well, can't have it all
Started book from charity shop so will definitely finish it now
Still off work until Wednesday :j:j:jNow thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0 -
Good morning all !
PK- thats amazing . Speaking to someone at HM arsey that correlates with the last converstion that you had withh someone there. The holiday sounds nice !
Skintos- ouch x 2 Sciatica and car tax !
VJsmum- I think only I have had blackberries for at least month in the magic garden ... usually pick loads in the country in Sept. My freezer is groaning with 'em. They are nice with venison and I saw a blackberry scone recipe that I may try /adapt from the US .
Have a good day all:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Last trip and then we flip.
And in a sense, I move in two weeks to my customers site. So, poacher will become gamekeeper. Oh, and lots of cuddles up with Ms BoP. Feel the beard.0 -
Waves hello from Australia!
Been a pleasant day here , stayed dry and the sky was a beautiful blue in the morning...till the clouds came out! So day 21 of being off work and trying not to get too stir crazy..
Today's silly little job was emptying the bathroom drawers and giving them a clean......one does not need to buy hand cream for the next ...well ever really!!
Loads and loads of washing done, all beds stripped and all ironed and the appropriate people can remake their own beds! As long as I remember to do mine before bedtime.....nothing worse than realising you need to make it to get in it!
Drove my car...first time in 2 whole weeks! Drove to next town and got a few things at supermarket. Donated 1 bag of clothing for re cycling and then 3 bags and some toys at the local charity shop. Job well done I think!
Went to library and watched Holby.
Popped into green grocers and with my $4 that I found yesterday I bought 2 cauliflowers for $1.50... This is very cheap they were $2.50 each in supermarket today. I have been blitzing them down to make cauliflower ' rice' , with another $2 I bought a bottle of washing liquid in the chemist!
Had to take DD1's school shoes back to shop, they were bought 4 months ago , were not cheap and have burst, the assistant was great as I didn't have my receipt but had the debit on my bank account on my phone( technology!) new shoes purchased with extra money added to the exchange for hopefully a more sturdy pair. The girls have to wear the most awful black lace up shoes ....however everybody does so they're not unusual....but almost 3 years on I still think they look bloody awful!
Got DD2's boot reheeled. These were bought in Mr T when we were at home and the heel fell off at the airport on way home ....10 days old! Couldn't do much about them and they've languished in her cupboard since then, anyway now fixed and will hopefully last a while now.
We took some of DD's old toys over to the wee girl across the road, so hopefully she'll get a lot of pleasure out of them...a barbie house and train and some scary looking barbies....their hair always goes a bit crazy!
My manager has just phoned whilst typing this, so I'm popping down tomorrow afternoon to give a hand with getting ready for opening, hopefully next flaming Wednesday ....but don't hold your breath, I won't be! I'd offered my time to help them ....because I am such a nice person!
Anyway, have a lovely, lovely Thursday .0 -
Morning
Pleasures for yesterday,
1. Took 2 bags of stuff from the office clear out to the charity shop, there was 2 new pairs of safety shoes that would have gone in the bin so I resuced them and they will hopefully save someone some money and get some for the local hospice.
2. Yummy wrap for lunch made with home cooked ham, all very MSE
3. Used some tesco vouchers to get DD a filtered water bottle to use when she goes back to college. Her water bottle was looking a bit worse for wear, it had been well used.
4. Very yummy chinese dinner in Windsor with DD and she insisted on paying for dinner , think I am still in shock as my DD normally squeaks when she walks.
5. After dinner went to the theatre to see the stage show of the Tina Turner story, was very good.
6. Managed to get the train home without to much of a wait and we were sat behind several of the cast from the show so nice to be nosy and listen in to their conversation about the show.:o
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Finito, over, gone and no snore SPARRALANDS
Got home safely to Ms BoP and her lot, via wobbleades shop. Hic Hic Hic Hic Hic Hic
Now poor Ms BoP was all distraught, with the fraught of BoP coming home. In fact she had not moved her iron for a few days, and the utility sink was in a bit of a state. So was Ms BoP. Apparently, there is a whopping great big grisly spider in the sink. And our pooooooor tiger has not been fed for a couple of days. No had the fraught with disaster Ms BoP.
5 Back home with Ms BoP
4, 3, 2, 1 On the Nest.
The Spider is still in the sink. Poor little spider really. Now who wants to see a picture of the little spider crawling through BoPs beards? Only problem is, Ms BoP cannot take one.0 -
