Here goes ...hope this post works, Mondays pleasures:
Up and about early.
Tidy house....well downstairs, I daren't venture to the rooms of doom upstairs aka daughters bedrooms!
Hoovered, washed floors, dishwasher on, bread maker on, 3 loads of washing washed and out on line all before heading to library to watch Casualty with their Internet.
Home via fruit shop, topped up on bananas and satsumas and another cauliflower to make pretend rice with!
Had a nice lunch of pât! and salad and nothing crackery.
DS came home from uni and tucked into leftover lasagne for his lunch.
The wildest of weather today....sunny/grey/ quick shower / sunny but blooming freezing/ high wind/ torrential rain ( whilst trying to get 3 loads of almost dry washing of the line) / even higher winds/ hail/ sun!
Watched a shockingly awful film whilst ironing and cleaning bathrooms and a bit more hoovering in the ad breaks.
Took rtc chicken out of freezer and goin to make chicken provencale for dinner...with mmmmm cauliflower rice for me! Lasagne without pasta just isn't the same! But the cottage cheese on top was nice.
Had a lovely chat with my nephew who was in Scotland visiting my niece....lovely to chat with him, he really is one of my favourite people!
I know it's time to get back to work when I even gave my peg tin a wash today!
Have a lovely Monday0 -
Morning all !
Bit of a mixed week tbh. DS booked his driving test, then 3 days later had a phone call from his instructor - he has had a stroke and cannot instruct for a month. Wishing him well obviously but that means DS will only have one lesson before his test
DSis had some bad news from home (B-in-L is self employed and had too much work on to come to stay) ... their black lab took a turn for the worse and had to be PTS, they have had him since my DS was aged 3 so big upset for all
THen DS had his bike stolen .. So he has had to go and buy a new one to get to work
However, lots of pleasures over the last week including:
1. DSis and DNephew (7yo) came to stay
2. some fabulous weather, dry apart from one day meant we could get out and about
3. did lots of tourist stuff I haven't done for years and DS took 2 days off to join in
4. lots of money off vouchers from groupon and voucher cloud meant we saved over £60 in admission fees
5. DS (18 yo) getting some of his old toys out of the loft and playing for hours with DNephew
6. ...then they dressed up as pirates and had a sword fight in the garden
7. local bike shop gave us a discount as this is the second bike in 6 months we have bought from them
8. DS got a puncture on first day of using new bike but local bike shop then fixed it for free as a goodwill gesture

OS pleasures
Turning a new month over on the calendar at work. Oh, those happy holiday grins! (May need to reuse this calendar next year, as with sir with foot in a cast, a holiday is going to be a bit tricky. That said we're both stubborn souls.)
The first brew of the day at the office. (I am *so* glad I scrubbed & scalded my mug out before I went off - as the grey green blue only-fleming-could-love is very disheartening.)
Sorting train tickets for work away from the office. (I do love being frugal - shrewd timing and early booking & I've saved my employers a wad! Satisfying in itself, the modest sum will also please training & thus may well move me up their go-to list of staff.)
Checking the cheap photobook (buy now, assemble over the next 3 months) offer is up on Grabbit. I did this a couple of years ago & the album is one of mum's proudest possessions. A decade of grandsons, in one place, beaming, growing & not making a racket.)
Eating not just a homemade sandwich at my desk but also an assortment of fresh salad stuff. Radishes help me want to *stop* eating.
Planning to collect my free Waitrose latte en route home. Some pleasures you have to scheme a bit for, mostly negotiating with yourself over time...
Catching up with various colleagues, lending ebooks & hearing someone remember their promise to declutter an armful of SF magazines my way (we love these, but can't afford them, and they'll take the sting out of mum abandoning them for the office.)
Chuckling with my boss over using my smartphone to photo a pedestal key so she can *show* the suppliers what she is trying to get replacements for.
Reading that a really good blackberry crop is forecast this Autumn. (Yum!) Now, who to borrow a canoe from, locally? (The most lovely berries, I picked along a canal a few years ago. Towpath side all picked out. In a canoe I brought back 4 kilos!) Anyone know how sloes may do? (My folks love sloe gin.)0 -
Pleasures for today so far!
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Went to see my friend's parents who had (look away now, sensitive people) shot some rabbits for brother's freezers and ferrets.
3) Went swimming with sons and my brother. The pool is in a boarding school (you can have a season ticket if you live locally) and the people who signed in before us were a Mr and Mrs Trout. Brother and I also have a fish surname! (Not a silly one like Pollock, a bit more obscure). So we signed ourselves in then we signed in a Mrs Haddock and a Mr Bream. :-)
Came out of swimming and the grumpy Trouts had crossed out the other fish names and written "STUPID KIDS" across the signing in sheet!
4) Went into town to get some sleeping bags sons can fit in. Did not really register with me that their existing ones are for children!
5) Much excitement here because at 6.30 we are going camping! Just putting half the house in the car. We're off to the top of the valley behind brother's house; got sausages and rolls for the campfire.
6) Camping spot chosen so we can watch the Perseids. :-) :-)0 -
sparrer - if it makes you feel any better, there's a cat living not far from me that I refer to as 'Binbag Cat', having made the opposite mistake once: I went to step over a binbag that someone had dropped on the pavement and was seriously startled when it opened big green eyes and said miaow! :rotfl:
After posting yesterday I developed a nasty stomach upet which left me laying awake for most of the night, so today's pleasures are all viewed through a veil of 'please let me sleep...'.
1) Toast and butter for breakfast - despite making me feel(well, more so than I was already, anyway!).
2) Took the skirts back to the shop for a refund, so that's a nice £40-odd back in my account. :money:
3) Bought some more RTC Yankee Candles. :money:
4) Watching the amazing Christine Ohurugu winning the world championship - could she have cut that any finer?
5) Lazy dinner tonight, of the 'stick it on a baking tray in the oven until sizzling' sort - well, I don't do it often!
Have a nice evening, all, and watch out for falling stars!Back after a very long break!0 -
Goxh, must had bin on the nest all weekend.
2 days to go. Looks like the Aussies will not be here tomorrow. Just had a stump come flying.
Last week away from Ms BOP, so pleasures to come later.
Pleasures for weekend.
5 Being with MS BoP. Had to change the jam this weekend, now on bitsa blackcurrant jam.mnice with nobbled butter.
4 Had snoggle file on Friday, dumbo. Ms BoP cannot watch it, as she thinks they ad a bit too much wobbleades, but bambi next week. I cannot see her lasting on that as well.
3 Eight Nil, Eight bl0000000dy nil. Did you get that DD? Embarrassing.
2 Aussies nearly finished now. Good to thump them.
1 Make people happy. Can I carry your bag. Good morning. I do have five minutes. Eight overs to go. Still bad light. Come on get the quick bowlers on.
There is always someone near.
Stop thread
Aussies truly thrashed. Well done broad.0 -
Good evening all !
After losing 4 extremely witty (ha ha ) posts I am keeping it brief tonight.
Sparrer - your cat is not blue and white striped is it !
Skintos - welcome back - sorry to hear about the dog, the stolen bike and your DS's driving lessons.
Frith - loved the trout's tale
VJsmum - now written for the 5th time .. Has Mickey recovered ?
a few for today
1. Work carp (sorry Frith no pun intended ). The peasants did revolt though.
2. Neice with pink hair was at my DM's when I got home with my great nephew - who is about 4ft aged 4 ! We breed 'em big
3.Terrier took me to the park and let a stranger lure her off with a ball. How very unfaithful
4.Picked a courgette up the top garden and let hens up with me at 6.15PM .Lo and behold a fox slunk out from the blackberry bush not two feet away from me and the girls and jumped the 7ft fence. The girls were too shocked to BOK as was I.
5. Got OH to strim back the jungle garden so I can at least see the enemy.
6. Chow mein for tea cooked in new ceramic pan - woo hoo ! No sticky sticky stuff.
Lets see if I'm blocked ...:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
1. Sunshine
2. Picked up a free l'occitane hand cream from their lovely shop using a voucher in weekend paper
3. 'free' drink and snack using boots points
4. DD was so excited to see me this evening (but then got a bit silly...oh dear).......massive cuddles
5. Picked up a new cheese joke (DD and I learned 2 over the weekend and I introduced a new one tonight!)Will only spread the word if begged
6. Changed a few more addresses!
7. Picked up a savings account form for DD and we're going to go to the bank on Saturday morning together to open it as her old account was with a building soc. that doesn't have many branches, so hard to add to when living here. She's very pleased as she felt grown up filling out the application form and even had to sign in the box!
8. 'My' study feels even more swanky as I now have a daylight bulb in here, so the light is fantastic
9. Remembered that yesterday was a NSD and NPD
10. I can do smilies!! (I know there's been a few problems around the boards with no smilies allowed, so hoorah for smilies)
I'm hoping that no news from either the s*dding estate agent or the s*dding solicitor is good news on my house sale. Praying that the darned place exchanges this week, or it's going back on the market. I think my buyers are messing me about now
Also annoyed that I paid for a week's worth of bus tickets on to my key card thing but that it will take up to 48 hours for the credit to load!! So, I had to pay for my journeys today, grrrr.
Also, sneezing like a good'un0 -
Evening
Frith - DD and OH also have a fish name theirs is to do with caviar. My flatmate when I met OH used to call me Mrs. Cod
Pleasures for today,
1. Packed lunches made of salad and left over turkey and ham for all today with a HM cake and some fresh pineapple for me. F
2. Last of DD's clothes washed and dried outside from trip away. My DF smokes so everything that comes back needs to be washed and aired.
3. Made pasta bolognaise tonight with the HM tomato, herb and wine sauce that I made yesterday. Very nice it was as well. Had HM bakewell for afters.
4. Used my free molton Brown shower gel for a shower today, it is so nice shame I refuse to pay the price to buy it. Will have to hope they do a freebie again and hide this bottle from DD
5. May have a glass of the white port that is chilling in the fridge
Hugs to all who need them0
