Good Morning everybody  - lovely bright start to the day here :). Thanks for your concerns during the past few days - lovely to have such a great group of 'internet buddies' :j.

Kittikins - I'm really hoping that dgd1 needing an inhaler will be a 'wake-up call' for DD, but her b/f is also a smoker, so I don't really hold out much hope unless he joins her as well. My DS2 and his g/f both gave up about 4yrs ago. Wd on taking stuff back within the 28days - better with the money in your pocket than theirs if you're not going to wear them :T.
newlywed - wd to your OH on having some work coming up and hope you manage to chase away the bugs that are 'having a go' at you at the moment.
Reverbe - what a rotten experience you had with the PR woman - some of them can be rather supercilious/intimidating at times. Great that the firm had her apologise to you - shame it wasn't as public as her insult, BUT at least she's been told the 'error of her ways'. Wd on the freebie manicure :T.
Caterina - wd on your morsbagging with your friend - great photos :j. Good Luck with the 'information day' for the charity volunteering - hope it works out for you and that you manage to reconcile with the admin lady who was so unhelpful to you.
ginnyknit - wd on being able to repair the catflap instead of having to replace it altogether :T.
wogglemaker - sorry to hear your breathing hasn't been good - fingers crossed for your Pulmonary Re-hab day.
Carolynita - :hello: and welcome to you - good to know that your hospital visit went well and how lovely to have such friendly ducks in your area .
Hardup Hester - wd you on helping your friend to sort her mum's house and it sounds as though your OH is enjoying his new job - so good to know that things are looking up for you two at last :j.
Ladyhawk - what rotten things to pinch your sweets out of the package - hope you complained about it to the delivery service (Post Office?). wd on your progress in work AND on 'spreading the word of Freecycle' - I mentioned it after a work meeting yesterday and only our boss-lady had heard of it before - she uses it too :).
nuttybabe - hobnobs/mincemeat traybake  - you've started something now ;) - sounds like you and the kids have had a great day.
CCP - well done on teaching your colleague to make a complaint - I never used to do it, but am now learning - AND it works .
Tealady - wd to your OH on regripping his golf clubs himself - sounds like that song from My Fair Lady 'he's got it, by George, he's got it .......' ;). I love getting 'NEW' books from the library - always feels like such a privilege :).
house elf - good to hear that you're feeling better - hope you all enjoy the bus museum - is it the one in St.Helens?
jexygirl - no worries about gate-crashing on here :) - complete open invitation - only time we shout is if you mention baking/cooking something very delicious and forget to share the recipe with us ;). Well done on your Liver and Bacon recipe for the staff - if your customers get a whiff of it, you'll have to put THAT on the 'Specials Board' too .
jollymummy - good luck with your bad back - just stay away from that Twister ;) - hope you and your mum have a good time and that ds is soon better - what a waste of school half-term for him :(.
sparrer - thanks for your kind PM. Hope the weather doesn't get too severe this time round. I'm another who turns 4pts into 8 ;) - though I DO have to keep some 'undiluted' to one side for the grandkids as they don't appreciate 'very skimmed milk' :rotfl:.

It's getting a bit late, I'll have to get off and sort my morning calls. My own posts will follow later.

Just want to say a big welcome to jexygirl and Carolynita and 'BOO!' to any other lurkers - come on in folks, we don't bite.

love and hugs to all who need them - Ollie xxxx
  • Morning ladies and gents, hope you are all well and (((HUGS))) to all who need them.

    Here are mine for yesterday:

    - Joining our local library. Hopefully I will save money by not buying books now and I signed DD up too, we can have upto 20 books each! The library opened recently in a new purpose built building, it is really nice compared to the old building it was in before. It was really refreshing to see how well used it is too (around 20 people browsing, all seats taken, a long wait for a computer etc. and all ages from 8 months to 80 years.)

    - Finding out about local baby groups and a "Rhyme time" group at the library for me and DD to go to.

    - Pancake day. Yummy! (Need I say more!)

    - Having an early night as we were all so tired, and reading in bed.

    - Having to convert DD's pram into a pushchair as she is too big for the pram now. This made me a little sad because it reminded me how quickly she is growing up :(.

Reverbe, don't leave me in suspense, can you elaborate a bit about the rude Martini girl happening (if you want)? Whatever happened, in any case, well done for getting some compensation for bad treatment

Certainly tho I posted a lot about this at the time last September. it was a Martini event to promote Martini Rosato with drinks and mini makeovers, goody bags etc. In brief I was sitting down in the queue for a Nails Inc manicure. Some PR girl came up behind my back and asked me if I was interested in being filmed. When I turned round she looked at me and said EWWWWWWWW Now I am not a very attractive woman but was well dressed and ceertainly neither the ugliest nor the oldest there. I complained both to PR company involved after tracking down who she was ( all the Martini promo staff were lovely btw) and to Martini themselves. Didnt get an apology from her which was really what I was after (tho admittedly would have liked some booze from Martini lol ;) )but Martini bunged me a Nails Inc voucher.

This might seem petty but I have both worked and trained in PR at Uni and to be being extremely rude to the clients/customer is NOT on.

OMG Reverbe, this must have been awful for you - I am sure you are perfectly attractive and the woman is just a dimwit. I am delighted that you managed to get something out of the ghastly episode although I agree, a lifetime supp;y of Martini would have been a more appealing choice!

I had something like this happen to me last year, went to the Personal Shopper in TopShop (on the recommendation of a women's mag article") and the teenage dimwit at the counter told me something on the lines of "more suitable for Evans" - she was surrounded by other equally glazey-eyed teenagers and as I left I heard them have a great big laugh.

I complained to the TopShop management via email but although I received an apology (from them, not from the girl!) I never got a voucher nor anything of value.

Ah the idiotic youth of nowadays huh?
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Hi all

Sparrer, we "hit" the woman as she was coming out of the greengrocers' hence the purse still in her hand - but I agree with you, we could have been much nastier than just morsbag ladies!

    Here are mine for today:

Edited to add a massive pleasure - unquantifiable!:

Just got my mammogram results and it is clear, THANK YOU GOD!!!

1 - Toast and tea in bed courtesy of DH

2 - The sun is shining! I am going to do just a little work and then going out to get a suntan LOL

3 - Today our local paper published the photo of my friends and me doing our morsbag release and a brief article about morsbags.

4 - Anticipating the play I am going to see with LilacLillie who kindly invited me after getting two free tickets for today's matinee

5 - Before going out, I will have a nice lunch with DS (probably hummus on bread, or scrambled eggs, or something simple). He has been very talkative recently and has invited me in his room (a rare pleasure) to listen to the music he bought in the last few days with his savings. I am very proud of him.

6 - DD is doing a temporary nannying job for two weeks in the morning (on top of her after school nannying). I am very proud of her!

    Have a great day, everybody
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Thanks Caterina. The funny thing is she was kinda old enough to know better(not that I dont think a teen isnt). I would have said she was in her mid 20s.

Ollie I didnt actually get an apology anywhere down the line which was the main thing I was after. Not her, not her PR company employers nor even Martini - though they did send me the voucher which I presumed was in lieu of an apolgy..

Grrrrr is all I can say - how would she like to be treated in such a rude fashion herself? I really do hope there's such a thing as karma...

    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. Seeing the happiness on a colleague's face as she came into work with her new engagement ring on her finger - she had a proposal on Valentine's Day. I'm so pleased for them both!

    2. Cinema night with two friends, on cheap Tuesday at Cineworld. Just as well, because the film ("Wolfman") wasn't great.

    3. Short day at work as I spent the afternoon out at a client's premises, where I get on well with everyone. And it's close to where I live, so I got home earlier.

    4. Trying the lentil pate that I made the other day for lunch - it turned out much better than I'd anticipated and just a small portion of lentils made loads of pate. I'll definitely be doing that one again. Got the recipe from Weezl's 50p a day thread.

    5. Seeing lots of my gym buddies in the morning - they all seemed to be down there yesterday!
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

  • 1) Getting a lovely cuddle from DH and being told that he would take DD to her class so I could stay in bed. I have got a stinking cold. However, I was sure it wasn't time to get up. It was too dark. Would he listen? He trundled off to have a shower, very considerately taking all his clothes with him and then came back rather sheepishly when he found out that it was only six o'clock.
    2) Clearing out the craft cupboard. It's not for the faint hearted but at least I now know where everything is and what I've got. Am getting rid of some wool, some of which is a lovely shade of 1970s Barclays blue but DS's gf knits so I shall offer it to her first.
    3) Walked to the local supermarket just to get off the sofa and found some bargain chicken fillets and 50p off a Patak's curry sauce.
    4) Finishing a poem for my course. Writing poetry is nearly killing me but I have a good friend who is vetting them for me and sending truthful comments, which is extremely helpful. Strangely, she feels honoured to be doing it.
    5) Family meal out at Pizza Express last night and our vouchers saved us £10. Definitely worth finding them before we went.

I shall now sniffle my way through the evening.
