5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Evening everyone,
Another busy day at work with 2 hours overtime... phew at least I am at home now. I was all excited because there was a package with hearts all over to me when I got home this evening, and one for the cats. They were from my mum... the cats one had two little catnip mice which were very cute... and mine had nothing... because someone had opened it and nicked the sweeties that my mum had sent
Anyway on the brighter side of things:
1) had the feedback on the development day at work... it was all really positive and I am hoping to have one of the board directors assigned to me as a mentor which is fabulous!
2) I introduced my boss to the joys of freecycle. I hope she gets what she wants on there. I find freecycle rather addictive and have to keep reminding myself that though some things sound great in reality I am not going to use them so I should leave it for someone who would... ie candle making kit!!!
3) Collected a set of 7 bottles from freecycle to give to my brother who brews his own elderflower champagne. hopefully he will share it this year!!!
4) My car insurance has been sorted out. I got a letter yesterday telling me that it was about to be cancelled as I hadn't proved my no claims history. Grrr... this is despite me calling them to explain that I had mislaid it and was going to ask my old insurer to send me a new copy. Eventually they agreed to phone my old insurer and get the details over the phone. I really don't see why they didn't try this in the first place! Anyway at least I don't have to worry about that any more.
5) Smoked herring fish cakes for supper. I really need to use up the kippers so I'll have to put off the pancakes until the weekend.
Welcomes Newbies.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Evening
Mine for today -
1 Ollie's back :T - I have missed reading your posts (like everyone else)
2 Cleaned the kitchen thoroughly
3 Made twinks hobnobs into a tray bake with mincemeat!!
4 Made a fruit loaf - i just put bread ingredients into breadmaker and then put in mincemeat, raisens, mixed fruit and cinnamon. Cant wait to try it for breakfast!!!!!!!!
5 Parmo and pancakes at my friends house. All the kids behaved and I got to eat lots of parmo. very nice!
Well, i have a drunk party girl sock monkey to finish. Have good evening.0 -
Good evening everyone
sparrer - well done on finishing your furniture. I am truly impressed! :T
house elf - glad you got your insurance sorted out in the end.
ollie - it's lovely to see you back, and I'm glad you had such a good timeover the weekend.
Reverbe - good for you for complaining about that PR person. I'd like to think she was ashamed of herself afterwards, but that sort of person probably doesn't have enough brains to feel ashamed.
Carolyntia - welcome! You're so lucky to have neighbourhood ducks - I love them and would be so pleased to have some come to visit me (although it's not impossible if it carries on raining at this rate!)
Ladyhawk - that's a real shame about your sweeties. That's another person who should feel ashamed of themselves.
My five for today:
1) Went out at lunchtime to a colleague's leaving do. It was the best kind of leaving do, as she's just moving to another part of the same department, so we got the fun of a leaving do without actually losing a well-liked colleague.
2) Persuaded another colleague to send back her lunch as it was cold. As she's usually the sort of person who prefers not to make a fuss, I count that as a success.
3) Came home to a nice dry flat - by this time my previous one would have had an indoor waterfall running down the wall by the front door. There's nothing like a miserable evening to make you glad to live somewhere where the water stays outside.
4) Made scotch pancakes and caramelised apples for pudding this evening. I haven't made either before, and they turned out pretty well for a first attempt. And...
5) There's still plenty of batter left so I can have pancakes for breakfast tomorrow, too. That's almost worth getting up for.
Have a nice evening, everyone - I'm going back to watching people throwing themselves down mountains.Back after a very long break!0 -
Thanks for the welcome CCP. There are quite a lot of ducks as I live in the middle of the Norfolk Broads. Unfortunately they've got so used to me feeding them they even recognise my car and know what time I usually get home
. There's even a Rhode Island cockerel who hangs around with them. He was dumped in our cul-de-sac and has been adopted by everyone. I also get quite a few pheasants and squirrels.....not to mention mad black birds chasing each other around the garden.
As my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
Evening everyone,
Feeling a bit better today and managed to get out for a couple of hours with DD for some fresh air.
Mine for today:
1. Pancakes
2. Browsing in the libary and getting 3 new books out to read
3. OH regripping his golf clubs himself and telling me it had saved £35. I think he's starting to get it:T
4. Free cup of tea in Debenhams
5. YS rolls and sausages in Waitrose, weekend breakfast treat sorted.
Ollie - Glad to hear you have had a lovely weekend and enjoyed your family party.
Hugs to all who need them and welcome to all the newbies.0 -
1. I managed to get by on normal strength painkillers today when my back was so sore I couldn't stand, yippee
Double bonus, few chemicals in me and no need to break my diet and eat lots of food to soak up the same.
2. Have put together some clothes and things to go back to shops as I'm within the 28 day refund period on them all, rather that than have them sitting around and costing me money I can ill afford.
3. Met up with a lovely friend and her wonderful hubby this evening, it was so gorgeous to see them after a few months, we had lots to catch up on
4. Even nicer, my night out was very cheap, as the pub didn't have sparkly mineral water so I drank council pop for free, just had to pay for parking!
5. Received £5 M&$ voucher for an old mobile phone I'd sent off to be recycled.
6. Lost another pound overnight, they're just falling off me
7. Had lovely cuddles with neighbour's cat who I'm feeding whilst they're away.0 -
Hi All,
Tealady and Kittikins your days sound just right for people who are feeling a little fragile.
Todays 5
1. Woke up about 5am, must be feeling better, so got up and had a couple of hours surfing on the netbook in peace. Didn't even do any school work!:p
2. Dropped DH at work then had a little browse in Home Bargains and Oxfam.
3. Cleaned blinds in living room. I wanted to join in the Flylady this week, but have ended up doing my own thing. Seem to have a cleaning/decluttering project going in every room. Hope I can put everything back to normal by next week!!
4. Invited to friends to eat. Yummy food and lovely photos of their hols.
5. Arranging to meet up with friends to visit bus museum tomorrow. DS2 will love it:D
Night Night HE x0 -
New to thread, tho I read it with interest so far, felt I needed to gatecrash as confidence is going ok, so please dont shout at me!
1) cleaned out hens and laughed so hard, they are so funny, and I cant get mad that I spent 10 mins sweeping / spading a nice pile of stuff that has been in there "bedroom" for a week, and they are interested in scratting and spreading it around only once I piled it up! but it made me smile
2) putting on a game casserole for the specials board even tho its my day off, it smelled so good, and will sell well, and I can make stuff now that smells nice without a recipe! (probably tastes crap!)
3) saved 2 more insulated boxes that my fish is delivered in (perfect seed trays) and 6 more diet irn bru bottles to cut and pop over seedlings outside (yeah Im addicted to the stuff) ready for when i transplant my seeds out (first time I grew anything!)
4)chucked some liver onions mushrooms new pots and bacon in the slow cooker and fed all the live in staff for about £4 whereas tuesday as a day off usually results in a takeaway around £30
5) took a breath. Looked around me, realised I am lucky in so many ways and for a moment the bad stuff was gone....
JexI will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0 -

Evening all, please that most are brighter and seem to be getting over their ills and ailments.
Welcome to Carolyntia, jexygirl and all the other newbies/lurkers...we know you're there!
Caterina I love your photo's but the lady you're handing the leaflet to needs to put that purse in the morsebag rather than show it to the world! I worry about security, too many years looking out for the olds I think
Not such a good day as neighbour 4 doors down was broken into this morning, it was my next door neighbour 2 weeks ago so my other neighbour and I are on tenterhooks and barely dare leave our homes. Anyway will try for five..
1. Seeing Ollie's post and learning that all is well with her and her family, hearing about her DM's 80th birthday and the box. What a wonderful time you must have had going through it and rediscovering everything. No wonder you weren't here Ollie, don't blame you one bit
2. Took a card, bunch of flowers and a bug-shaped lollipopto DGD1 for passing her driving test. She was so excited, said no-one had ever bought her flowers before. Ahhh bless
3. Took all the dining suite cardboard to the local tip, the men there are always so helpful and rush up to the car to help me unload. They're always cheerful too, nothing is too much trouble for them :T
4. Snow is forecast here over the next 2/3days, I just had to buy an extra 4 pints of milk (which will magically become 8) now I have everything I need for at least a week.
5. I'm sitting in bed with a cup of green tea and a hot cross bun...how decadent, and for once I don't care about crumbs
Night night (((hugs))) everybody, sweet dreams
