old style pleasures today? OK, here's mine:
1. going back to sleep after the alarm went off.
2. cleaning the house with vinegar/water spray and bicarb.
3. sitting indoors listening to and watching the rain beating on the window (we did have some sun earlier).
4. received the credit card bill today with a smile; it will be paid off in full due to old style frugal habits.
5. sitting with DH after we had finished our housework, drinking tea made in teapot and eating homemade cake.0 -
Evening
Happy Birthday Frith and CCP :bdaycake:
Dundee - (((Hugs)))
Pleasures for yesterday & today,
1.Fab free day out at Legoland with DD, far too young for her but we had a great day anyway and were very silly
2. HM Pizza for dinner
3. Lunch with friend and her lovely DD, lots of cuddles
4. Sun shining, thank you BoP
5. Best until last, new great niece born today. Both mum and baby well and she is beautiful
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Bop - been a long time since I had a beard rub. Probably be able to grow my own beard more easily than find anyone who owns one.
Hope you're OK, DD. LOL at "bring on the men"! Every time I bump into MrN he is in costume. Usually in his suit, sometimes in motorbike leathers - tonight in his karate outfit! Perhaps he could go out to his car dressed as a sailor or in his swimming trunks for my entertainment?!
Cross today. Nice NHS lady said the County Council phoned her up demanding to see smaller son's diagnosis report. I posted it to the County Council in April... Well, I'm sure that will give them the excuse to slow things down for another few weeks.
THEN... smaller son came back from school and told me the name of his new school! This was quite a surprise as he doesn't have a place in any new school, I haven't looked round the potential one and I most certainly haven't made my mind up. I have never mentioned the new school name to him. Will phone up his present school tomorrow and a) ask them if they actually know if he has a place and b) tell them not to mention it again!
Anyway, pleasures for today:
1) Sons both had a good day at school.
2) I had a nap after they had gone because combined cold/hayfever means I can't actually breathe terribly well so I am very tired. I haven't wheezed so much since I was at high school.
3) My brother came up with the trellis he made for my birthday and put it up for me. I tied the new climbing rose to it and brother told me about his day at Wimbledon.
4) Cleaned the bathroom.
5) Spoke to 3 builders and one came round to give me a quote (for kitchen replastering).
6) Will listen to the book in iplayer (other people are recommending it too, Ampersand).
That's about it! Got to be organised in the morning as bigger son has his 2nd orthodontist appointment in Hereford - miles and miles away!0 -
Have a brilliant time at Glastonbury VJsmum, I hope the sun shines all weekend and all your preparations have been the right ones
DD - anger is good, I worked out a lot of !!!! when angry with my ex, but then I'm often still angry with him (quite hard not to be when he's such a !!!!!...). Still, I wish I could take your pain away, sending love and prayers x
1. Sunshine
2. Despite the best efforts of some blooming naughty and very irritating boys, had a brilliant day teaching Latin to a group of Y10s. I'm definitely doing the right thing by going into primary rather than secondary teaching though, I couldn't go through that kind of rubbish every day from hormonal teens! The 'good kids' in the class were lovely, and I felt really sorry that they have to put up with these idiots every day....
3. Still on a high from No.2 7 hours after finishing the school day! Woohoo!!
4. Treated myself to a Magnum icecream!
5. Made deelish dinner - we are really starting to eat into our quartermaster's stores now, one cupboard is nearly bare!
6. My lovely friend G popped in for a pep talk as she has an interview tomorrow morning for a job she'll be brilliant at. Fingers crossed!
7. I've just done a survey, so looking forward to payment in LV shortly.0 -
Happy birthday Frith and CCP x bit late in the day but its the thought etc:D

3. Lovely bath with bubbles and political reading material...happy LFS!
4. Planted broccoli plants...only 230!
5. HUGE pile of pastry related washing up that I'm NOT going to do till the morning...not doing something..now thats a pleasure!!
And it rained on me when I was planting and I didn't care:D2013 NSD 100. CC2014CC- £31.50/£1352014 NSD 86 so far - May 20/212014 G/C spend £741.55 so far May £107.99/£91Debt Free - 30.05.13 Emergency tin - £1000June 23 - 9NSD0 -

I did give a smile at "The Accidental Lesbian", DD.
I was halfway through a post earlier when an urgent email came in, I went to deal with it, and as I concluded it, everything froze - though thankfully my lengthy email reply was saved in Drafts.
So: 1. Loved reading my new Burns volume, and more books to review came today. Bliss.
2. Newbie at the Live Music Club who found us after some work I had done promoting the club on websites. I was thinking nobody was taking any notice. I was half hoping to hear some of Burns' songs at the Club - they are heard more often than you would think. Songs like 'Jacobites', 'Green Grow The Rashes, O', 'My Love Is Like A Red, Red Rose', 'John Anderson My Jo', 'A Man's A Man For A' That'. 'Ae Fond Kiss' ... Anyway, not last night. Ah well.
3. Then, this morning whilst shopping, I heard a busker playing 'The Water Is Wide' on a recorder, that's not Burns, but it is lovely.
I listened, thanked him, gave some money and as I walked away, yep, a Burns tune.
It was 'Ye Banks And Braes O' Bon(n)ie Doon', played beautifully. I stopped in my tracks, the busker wouldn't have known the pleasure hearing that gave me, I hadn't asked for the tune, it was just serendipity.
4. Fresh fruit and veg bargains. Apples, doughnut peaches, a big bag of bananas. Worth the struggle to and from the bus stops, arthritis a bit yeuch.
5. I really hope that nobody is offended by this, but oh goodness, did it make me laugh when I needed it. I've shared it on FB, nobody has objected so far.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Been MIA for a couple of days, a bit of an emotional roller coaster but I've come to terms with the situation as far as possible
Belated happy Birthday Frith and CCP
DD I rather like The Accidental Lesbian as a title
mcculloch ouchieeeeeeee!
1. The new car is returning excellent mpg
2. Had a chat with someone very well known at this evening's meeting. Being anon I can't say who but it was a real pleasure (understatement) to meet her.
3. Took DGD2 for her first lot of prom prep today, as we walked into the college I was asked if I'd like a trim. I was going to make an appt for one on Friday but one of the students needed to do one more trim to complete her course so I agreed to be her model, and they didn't charge me
4. Shopped in Mr M just before closing, got a dozen rolls for 19p and 4 panini's for 18p
5. Although not very warm - flaming June be blowed! - the yellow thing was about for quite a while, so I got all the pet bedding dry on the line
Sweet dreams0 -
Good morning all !
Sparrer ((hugs))
Mcculloch - I read the article and thought , why an electric knife???;) Poor bloke he should have put a cork in it .
VJsmum - have a lovely time.
piecemeal - welcome , what a lovely post.
Frith- hhhnm perhaps Mr. N is Mr. Ben ?? I do hope that he has a motorcycle and does karate?
Have a good day all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
chicken I was just going to suggest to frith that Mr N is Mr Ben.....maybe you have to be a certain age to get that though.....or maybe just great minds think alike
Well, a beautiful sunrise that I was able to watch....normally I'm driving and just have a quick glance.
Work was work and went past slowly.
Day 4 of being a public transporter! Did some emails on my phone whilst waiting for the bus.
Went into library and watched Holby online ....their wifi , my phone.
Stood under a very hot shower and washed the day away and into my jammies early.
Had requested ( like jonks ago) next Friday off work.....however due to changes at work I can't have it...or I could but we'd be struggling, so out the goodness of my heart have said I'll have Monday off instead. It's still a long weekend I suppose! Kids finish school tomorrow so no uniforms for a fortnight yeah!!
Have a lovely Thursday whatever you're getting up to0
