    Pleasures for the weekend!

    Saturday

    1) Went geocaching! We walked for 5 hours, still amazed that sons didn't complain once and were still walking at top speed at the end. We found 15 caches in a series, lovely spots by the river and up the hills on the sides of the Severn Valley.

    2) Have lost 6 lbs this week. (I'm sure it won't continue at that rate!)

    3) Enjoyed watching the Voice.

    4) Smaller son has got stuck in a book (one of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series). It is very rare he will sit still for 15-20 minutes like that.

    5) Had fish and chips from the bus that parks on our village hall car park.

    6) Watched Casualty.

    Sunday

    1) Cleaned out the porch. It is a once a year job as we use it like a shed so everything has to come out before I can scrub down the brick walls then it all has to fit back in again.

    2) Changed the beds and did lots of washing and dried it on the line.

    3) Tasty tea of potato wedges (made by sons) and pizza with the dough made in the breadmaker.

    4) My school friend came round.

    5) A few ball games behind the village hall.

    6) The Archers!

Busy day planned today. Got to go to Sainsburys to get enough food for our trip to the seaside tomorrow. Duck race at the pub at 2 (!) Then.... off to brother in law's later for the reprisal of Dungeons and Dragons. :-)

Getting all my chores done on bank holiday weekend on the Saturday and Sunday. Which means I have had today to potter about and bake and please myself. Right now I'm sat browsing the net with a cuppa and a freshly baked cherry scone. I'm going to read a couple of chapters of my book then I can make a start on tea. Happy days.

Also, I re-organised my house. Moved the piano from living room into a corner of the gym room upstairs, and put the electric fireplace back on the wall. It takes up so much less space. But then I had to declutter all the wires that the piano was hiding. Worth it though, the place looks like I have totally redecorated, but I haven't spent a single penny!

Only thing now is I don't know what to do with my ugly brown mirror that doesn't match anything - I need to upcycle it so it fits in.

Am also wondering if 2 sofas is looking a bit too cluttered - thinking of getting rid of one and replacing it with an Ikea Poang chair picked up cheaply off eBay - they look sooooo comfy. I wish I was better at picturing exactly how things would look, then I would be able to make my mind up what to do. Is there anywhere I can post any pics for some advice?

    Evening all.

I've had a lazy sort of day today - there were several things I meant to do, and I've ended up doing very few of them. :o

    1) NSD and NPD, for the third day in a row.

    2) Watched some of the French Open. There are few things that feel more summery to me than sitting with all the doors and windows open, watching tennis on tv. :)

    3) Planted some French bean seeds and potted up a chilli plant.

    4) Decided to be properly OS and turn a failed loaf of HM bread into breadcrumbs rather than chucking it in the bin in irritation, which was my first instinct.

    5) Will shortly be turning some LO pork from last night into fried rice for tonight's dinner.
Back after a very long break!

Hi sKiTz-0  cherry scone sounds nom nom !

    Pleasures for yesterday and today

    Sunday

    1. pottered in the garden and managed to get quite a lot of next doors ivy off my fence ..... not too much as I think that the ivy is holding the fence up :rotfl: and as its my boundary I don't want the cost of having to replace it ;)

    2. found a few old nails in the "junk" drawer in the kitchen ...(does anyone else have one of these? All those bits of things that might come in handy one day :o ) ... and banged them in to hold up the bits of fence that had fallen off. Should last a bit longer now ;)

    3. DS washed outside of windows for me, 4 ...... and he hoovered round downstairs

    5. home-made steak-mince burgers for tea with wedges and salad ... nom nom !

    6. bank holiday Monday.... DIY day !! Spent most of the morning painting the top half of the hallway / stairs / landing. Good job I could stand up to do it as think I over-did the gardening yesterday and can hardly move / bend my back today. Hurrah for co-codamol

    7. Afternoon snooze :o followed by some bank holiday tv film watching .... Flight of the Navigator ... easy watching, feel good, family tv

Hope everyone is having a good bank holiday x

lol, I have a 'junk' drawer, but I call mine the man drawer. Full of useful bits and bobs like spare light bulbs, batteries, a couple of odd tools, screwfix catalogue. It is let down as the 'man drawer' only by the flowery patterned case for the sewing kit my nana bought me as a moving in present. Much to all my friends laughter when they found it in the 'man drawer'

I think everyone has one of these drawers in the kitchen

    1. Sunshine :)

    2. Made just over £150 profit at the car boot sale! Very happy Kittikins and Miss Kittikins - I gave her £10 commission as she was very a good and helpful girl :)

    3. DD and I are going to be ladies wot dine in the garden this evening

    4. Just worked out that the £150 is virtually this month's shortfall on the bills, so will DEFINITELY pay it into the bank tomorrow.

    5. Yet more washing done and dried on the line.

    Good evening all !

Sparrer - I love your Mum already:D I wish her a speedy recovery.

Kittikins - well done you !

    1- 10

VJsmum - what did I find not half an hour ago squashed upside down in the mud in my 100ft garden ?.....it may have passed through one or several hens.......my bliddy diamond from my engagement ring !:D:D What are the odds?? I am sooo happy - it was clearly "meant" to be found.Lottery ticket me thinks...If I win I will buy you two boxes of hair dye ;)

a quick summary which obviously does not quite top the above ;)

    1. Bargains in Mr. T- lots of rtc chicken shoved in freezer.

    2.Did some of my assignment

    3. Weather here has been fab. Brown arms already:)

    4. Veg plot is doing well- OH and I made a new sort of cage made out of old bits of wood and netting (operation cat poo Mark 2 )to cover my strawberries.

5.Took the terrier out on a country walk today and stopped in an overpriced pub for a drink on the way back. She was very well behaved.

6.OH has cleaned up the diamond and will take the ring to a jewellers to get the two parts reunited once again, for good I hope. Note to self ..I can now stop looking at every crumb and gap between the floorboards etc etc.

Have a lovely evening all !

I don't really have a junk drawer, but my late grandmother did: when I cleaned it out after she died, I found her father's (i.e. my great grandfather's) brass cigarette lighter, which he carried when he fought in WWI. That's a pretty cool bit of junk!

Apropos of absolutely nothing, but the discussion reminded me. ;)

ETA - that's great news about your diamond, Chicken. :j

Thank you all for the kind thoughts re DM. She had a horrid day yesterday, morphine (and perhaps sudden lack of alcohol - she drinks around 1/2 bottle of brandy a day) made her hallucinate and become very confused, which is completely out of character for her. However today she's been a little better, and hopefully she gets to see the cons tomorrow. DD suggested they should drip brandy into her oxygen pipe, would definitely perk her up :rotfl:

Chicken the ring - so exciting! :j:T:j:T:j
Kittikins and Miss K, excellent news about your car boot profits, well done both of you :D
Skint the junk drawer is not only vital to the smooth running of my home but is quite an adventure to open. It keeps me occupied for ages, although often I forget what I went there for in the first place!
CCP sounds like you had quite a productive day in fact, making breadcrumbs, planting and potting, and most importantly watching the French Open ;)
VJsmum agree, Paignton is a very nondescipt place. Another time perhaps try Brixham which is still interesting although quite commercialised

    1. The weather. Heating off, all windows and back door open
    2. Pottering in the garden, pulling the daffy bulbs to plant elsewhere as the strawbugs have taken over that bed with a vengeance. Looks like there's going to be a very good crop this year
    3. Went shopping with DNeighbour this afternoon, bought a new, lovely thick, cream bath mat rtc £9.99 -> £3.99
    4. DNeighbour bought me a silly, cheap, tacky little solar plastic sunflower which nods in the sun. Daft but just amuses me
    5. hm soup with hm bread for tea
6 - One more small pleasure...when I was in Oban I dropped a tiny pin/brooch on the floor in my friend's lounge. We searched high and low, but came to the conclusion that it must have gone between the floorboards. She phone me a little while ago to say she's found it, it was caught in the threads under a sofa. It will be on its way back to me in the morning :D

    Have a good evening :)
