Haha never thought of m hair having gone rusty. Rest assured i am feeling ok with my week off due to wee cough. I am 99% sure it's not whooping cough but can see since i work up at the hospital it would be follish not to take precautions as it is still dangerous for babies and pregnant mums. Looking forward to being very os mse over this week of confinement and catching you up on my 5 pleasures for the day.

  • My five for yesterday;

    1. Lazy day in an attempt to get rid of my virus. OH keeps joking that I think 'rest' is a swear word! So under orders I spent yesterday watching films and I do feel a little better today.

    2. Really snazzy Chanel mascara free sample arrived in the post, really impressed.

    3. Another eBay sale meaning less junk to go the new house and more money for paint!

    4. Saying no to an unreasonable request, I usually just agree to everything.

    5. One for today, mum just turned up with a bag of food related goodies for me and it includes cake!

A week of sadness here so will try and find some pleasures.

    The bad bits:

My daughter's friend , re - diagnosed with cancer only 4 weeks ago died on Wednesday , in her mum and dads arms and aged just 13. It is just so, so sad and hard to take in. My wee girl is just distraught. The funeral is next Wednesday and we'll go together .

Prior to this news ,we had a shock at work when I was told that one of my sales reps had died at the weekend. His poor manager had to go round all the customers to tell them. Sam was 34 years old and died suddenly last Saturday. Felt very sad all day and then got news about friend later on.

Then today got a message that my favourite aunt's dog had to be pts .
Their dog and our dog were very good friends ! They are quite rightly very upset.

So give your loved ones an extra hug , because we don't know what's ahead of us. Let's live our lives and make the most of what we have.

A few pleasures....tinged with sadness that 2 lovely people will never see them again...autumn continues its beauty around us. Weather cooler but I don't mind that...though think I might be turning into a namby pamby Australian... ( heaven forbid!)and feeling the cold!!! Had my gloves on past 2 mornings!!

    Parrots!

Husband continues to improve.....every little helps!

We will be home for Christmas ....flights booked and holiday cottage booked! 30 weeks to go!!

    A possum in my tree!

A Marks and Sparks delivery new undies......50p for knickers!!! And free delivery here.

Went out for dinner mid week and discovered a new to us Indian restaurant in a nearby town , the food was delicious and the service was excellent ...we will be back!!

Reading a lovely library book at every spare moment I have!

Hope you all have a lovely Friday ...is it a long weekend for you all?
We don't have Mr Cucumber patch here! ( have just asked DD1 ...apparently she has series 1 and 2 on her laptop ....are you on series 3?

Bedtime here, so good night from me :)

Ho hum, nearly noon and so what? Excuse - back from Spits around 0130h.

    1. Unfussed about being still undressed etc. after long, long, long, hard-grind Spits day hier. Okay-ish-just. Again, some had zero takings. Bizarre weather kills everything off and in it swept again, rain cascades, driving wind, working their way indoors. I was en route a bit after 3 yesterday morning, still surprised by dawn hinting at that hour, when big rain drops began. Continued till near London.

    2. Since new management refurb. of Spits toilets, they are now open only 8-20h, which is no good for peeps who've been up since sparrow's and working since. That pause before next labour-intensive running in/setting up@8h and end of day is when such facilities need to be open. They were previously. Now, it's down to Costa coffee and attempting sang-froid no-spend visit with another purpose. They seem not to mind - so far - perhaps think we'll eventually become guilt-trip patrons.

    3. In fact, someone called out 'Come in' from the friendly Italian place 'The Hard Grind' and then more were chatting. Again, taken by surprise by this warmth and acceptance. Young waiter asked what I wanted. Don't worry, I have my Lady Ancience Thermos, I answered. Perhaps recognising me for the Qualificated Precariat I am[henceforth QP for OS posting porpoises], said 'You sit, I bring anyway...you want croissant, bit squashed?...' So I had. It was lovely.

    4. Just em'd long-hauler. 10 days is longest gap ever and I am conscious of this from that person's side, although p/c was sent from Dub.

    5. sparrer- you are so right about Chanel no.5. My bottles need to last 2-3 years, if poss. That's why ebay's refund to me without having to jump through hoops, a singular departure from their usual practice after a buy went wrong earlier this year, was such a relief.

    6. I'm reflectively re-reading many passages of JW's 'Jonny. My Autobiography' re: which, as noted to a fine poster on this Thread, could hardly be anyone else's. That aside, it is excellent, definitely a Not Normally Me read. I'd recommend it to anyone, all parents.

    7. There was a moment of bliss yesterday afternoon at Spits. The teasing and urging now from all around is 'Sit down &. Stop. Stop. Stop' / 'No, you can't stop her, Look at her, makes you tired'. It takes me so long to set up. I am hopeless. I never get all my boxes emptied. I'm forever running around, tweaking, re-arranging, re-filling gaps, often called to translate, give estimates, suggest prices. This is the most astounding. I have no real knowledge, just gut, eye, memory. I first sat down for a nano-second around 11.40, then it was 20 to 3. Up went an almighty cheer. 'Look at that', said dear J; said dear A [as they tucked into their bottle of Ribena again. These two elderly gentlemen are such loves, massively knowledgable, so wise, so kind]; said Market Mother M, nodding approvingly; said petite neighbour J on my left; said hard-won approval J on my right[he, too, spends hours sorting/setting up] -
    'She's sitting down, at last!'
'Watch this' chorused J and A 'She won't share our Ribena, says it's cos of driving, wants that black stuff in her Thermos instead' I poured and opened a Bag of the creamiest fudge I've ever had, sent by someone on this Thread. It was just so perfect, that combination/ Sorry, ykwya - scoffed the lot. Really needed it there and then. Likely buyer paused, asked question. From J and A, teasing - 'You let that gal have her tea. She hasn't stopped. That's the 1st time she's sat down today', But it was fine and fun and a sale.
I am so lucky to have my chance there. The gorgeous Fudge/tea was a real bonus! My personal Proustian experience.

Oh well, nearly 12.30 - ending with another So What, just as I began.

Oh mhags, I'm so sorry - what a dreadful run of news. Well done for finding some pleasures on such a lousy day, and I'm really glad to hear your OH is picking up.

I've had a pretty poor day (although nowhere near as bad as mhags') - I woke up this morning with a splitting headache and, although it cleared after a while, it left me feeling like I just wanted to curl up and sleep. smiley-sleep024.gif

    On the bright side:

    1) A quiet day at work, so I could spend my afternoon setting up a profile on a professional network, then playing the Geo whatsit game mentioned in the MSE newsletter. (Which I'm very bad at, BTW - if I even get the right continent I'm pleased with myself. :o)

    2) Got a helpful vote for one of the travel reviews I wrote recently. I don't know why it matters to me given that I only really write them for my own amusement, but it always makes me happy when someone else likes one. :o

    3) A nice email from a company which messed up an order I'd placed - you've got to like a company which responds with "Whoops. We c***ed up." :D

    4) Managed to dodge the downpours all day and get no more than mildly damp.

    5) Planning a very un-OS evening with a takeaway pizza, a bottle of wine, and last weekend's Eurovision. Actually, the wine was bought with a voucher, the pizza will be bought with a voucher, and recorded tv is free, so that's not too badly un-OS after all. :)
Back after a very long break!
