Hello lillibet, hugs to all especially poorlies and kitties x
1. Had some friends over yesterday to help me take more of the dreaded woodchip off the walls! It was fun and hard work - got a lot done, only maybe a day's more stripping to do! DD got really into it as well, she was very sensible and very handy with the steamer and scraper
2. Those that were here for lunch enjoyed my home-made soup
3. Talking of soup, when I dropped a friend's children off after church this afternoon, I was presented with a serving of yummy sweet potato, coconut and chilli soup deeelish! DD doesn't like chilli, shameso it was mine, all mine!
4. Have partially registered myself as a volunteer at New Wine but then found out I need to find £100 for DD, so am pondering how I can work it out, but excited at the thought of being a step closer to finally going! Keep your fingers crossed we can go
5. Bumped into a very lovely acquaintance this evening when DD and I went to a prayer meetingHaven't seen her in ages so it was good to have a catch up.
6. Also bumped into some girls from the school I work at at the prayer room - we kept on looking at each other curiously, and eventually I asked if they were from the school, as we don't go to the same church and of course, in 'real' clothes, we all look different!
7. We had a lovely sleepover at our friends' house last night (oooh soo warm and the bed was ooooh so comfy) babysitting their toddler who, as always when we stay, slept like a log all night long! I was achy after all the DIY stuff so took a painkiller and a glass of wine and had a nice early night, was probably asleep before DD!
8. Curled up on the sofa with DD this afternoon and watched a film, we 'needed' a lazy afternoon
9. DD went crazy for my made up as I went along fishy dinner tonight, hoorah! There's enough of the sauce left for me to have it for lunch tomorrow.
10. Saw lots of lovely friends this weekend and a chum I've not seen for a while has texted asking if we fancy joining her for a weekend in May0 -
Quick pleasures for me as feeling tired and icky.
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Got the car off the car park! Took me and MrN's son5 30 minutes to dig away 50 (!) cm of snow behind it so I could reverse it out. Still proved impossible so had a tow by a local chap in his 4x4. Road down to one single lane (snowdrifts across the other lane) but actually not too bad.
3) Went swimming with my brother.
4) Changed the beds.
5) MrN's son3 came round after lunch as "everyone was annoying him" and sat and played on his laptop til about 6!
6) My school friend came for tea and helped bigger son with some impossible maths homework.
7) Made toad in the hole and fried up some peppers. Also made a date and walnut cake but with some prunes I had left that worked quite well.
8) Sons came back from their father's OK.
9) Sons took great delight in pushing my friend's car off the car park!
10) Sons suddenly had a sort of competition as to what they could remember of the Easter story. They went to a C of E primary school so they had picked up bits of it. I had to laugh to myself when they told me "Moses was put in a Moses basket which was SET ON FIRE then sent down the river" ! I think the Old Testament might be quite a lot shorter if that was the case.0 -
Welcome lillibet
purpledonkey I don't hold out much hope for me as a Victoria sponge maker but yes please, do post the recipe. You never know...
(((Hugs))) CCP and poorly mog, keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers
nuttybabe pleased to hear you like the colour even if it wasn't quite right! I was surprised at how dark mine came out at first, but after a few washes it settled down to a very acceptable deep reddish brown, which is exactly what it says on the box. Apparently using he@d & should4rs a few times will remove colour, not tried it but handy to know, just in case
1. Got a text asking if I was going to meet my friends, I said no because of the snow but by the time I'd had my shower some of the local men had gritted the roads leading to the main road, so I went. Thought I'd stick to the main roads rather than going the usual lanes way (the scenic route) and found the A1M had a detour via the lanes because of drifts! But still got there in good time
2. A new lady in today, who I discovered lives in my village so have offered to give her a lift in future
3. Someone brought millionaires shortbread. There were no crumbs by the time we left
4. Went on for a late lunch with a friend, didn't get home til almost 6pm. The restaurant was lovely, brought us a free cup of tea each as we were chatting for so long. They said we're good for business making the restaurant look full, although it was the whole time we were there
5. Dear friend in Yorks whose OH left her has found herself a nice little terraced cottage with plenty of room for the dogs (min. schnauzers) and cats. It's going to be much more economical than the great big house on the moors, and closer to civilisation. I'm so relieved for her and will go and visit when the weather improves.
Sweet dreams
eta Frith hope you feel better now. Had to laugh out loud at you No.10 :rotfl:0 -
Morning
Purpledonkey - Well done on the cake win
CCP - (((Hugs))) hope all goes well today for you and the cat
Pleasures for yesterday,
1. NSD
2. Trip to inlaws to witness some paperwork for them and both DD and I were given a choice of some of OH's nan's jewellery. I was happy for DD but it felt a bit odd for me but FIL was insistent that I had something. Picked a lovely gold brooch is shape of a flower and some seed pearl earrings.
3. Made a slight change to the meal plan and had Chicken and Ham pie at DD's request. Didn't put Yum on it though, sorry. Was going to make jam tarts as well but forgot they were in the oven and lets just say they were not very nice :rotfl:
4. OH had to work through the night so I got to watch what I wanted on TV and had the bed all to myself, bliss
5. Realised that I hadn't overspent on my food shopping after all as had bought fruit for work and there is £5 in the kitty to cover it.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
I'm married to a poorly person again
we keep going one step forward and two back, at least he sees his specialist tomorrow, so we've all had a very quiet, tip toe-ing round the house kind of evening keeping quiet to let him sleep.
1. Work was okay! It's always a bonus if its okay! One staff member didn't come in so worked on a bit extra....will keep a mental note of the extra minutes! It's one day closer to the long weekend!
2. Cockatoos....swooping and squawking like the crazy things they are. They are so loud and prehistoric sounding ( well....like I imagine a prehistoric sound to be!)
3. Drive home. Along one of the main roads I drive are magnolia trees on either side of road, they are not particularly mature ( estate only prob 4-5 years old) but they were having a last hurrah and all in bloom. Beautiful.
4. Had chilli and rice for tea with a portion left for tomorrow . Was rather yummy.
5. My son and daughter sitting in the front room, yakking as I type! DD1 is hoping to go to snow camp again this year but will pay for it all herself! As she still has all her ski wear from last year I shouldn't have to spend a penny! They've just been up to bank together to get her deposit whilst I filled in the lengthy forms!
Have a lovely day, hope poorly people feel better and poorly moggies get better too!
keep warm!0 -
Oh, mhags - we're all with you and OH, esp. with specialist appt tomorrow.
By now, ccp and pusscat, an important i/v for an important son, pk's OH's fraud, msm's house offer[as approved by grand-dad]are also in our caring thoughts orbit, having acquired that precious patina that only constant handling and use can furnish.

Thank you all so much for the lovely welcome x
OK, for today:
1) Not having to scrape ice off the car this morning and the snow is slowly melting
2) Inspiring some of my year 5 pupils to have a go at entering Junior Masterchef!
3) DD broke up from school last Friday - my school doesn't break until Thursday. Got home from school to a warm house, the washing up done, the eggs collected and the dogs walked! I love my DD!
4) Lots of cake and chocolate in the staff rooom as a thankyou from the headteacher, governors and even parents to say 'well done' for a fantastic Ofsted last week. It makes my job so worth it when the parents appreciate what you do.
5) Looking forward to Neighbours, Eggheads, Great British Menu, a glass of wine and a yummy dinner.
6) Hot bubbly bath, electric blanket and an early night!
