Some lovely posts, and welcome, Lilibet. I rarely buy sun cream but I have snow boots, ice grippers and a gripper on one of my walking sticks... Perhaps living up North has given me that outlook, more so than if I was back home in South Wales.

Not that I am likely to live there again, as DD, DSo-i-L & my grandchildren are here and I think DS will not move from this area as well.

Not having the weather that others have is a mixed pleasure with some distressing items on the news.

In keeping with my signature, I am also making use of what I have and not buying new (or pre-loved) clothes - I've bought zilch since c. last Sept, though I have bought for grandkids. I am taking more pleasure in what I do own, in putting different items together to make outfits that are a new combo.

Normally, of course, by this time of year the heaviest winter cardigans and jumpers are away back in storage, but not this year. I honestly haven't seen anything that I really, really wanted to buy in shops either. 9/10 times they never have my size anyway, as I'm not a twiglet and sizes 16-18 are always first to be bought.
We know they cost more to make, but why do shops only ever have 1 or 2 in these sizes and 20 in an 6, 8 or 10?

I reflected a while back on how my Mum would wear the same items for a week, kept clean and fresh by an apron and faultless personal hygiene.
So now that working from home means not having to wear smart-ish teaching outfits, I decided a few months ago that I could wear the same outer clothes for more than a day or two too - clean underwear and longline sleeveless tops worn as vests changed daily of course.

Anti-perspirants are far more effective than they used to be, so that hasn't been a worry. I think I mentioned the little portable bidet I bought as an aid to personal hygiene some time ago, what a good buy that has turned out to be (sorry if that's TMI!).

Yesterday's main meal was a suitably wintery casserole, a little veggie roast today as I didn't brave the cold weather to the butcher's yesterday. It's quite windy outside too, goodness knows what the wind chill factor is. Often I'm in Mr T's at this time, sniffing for YS bargains but not today.
So not a list of pleasures today, just some reflections and general blessing counting.

I'm up - albeit briefly - and have enjoyed some lovely newbies' posts. Welcome all.

It's an odd feeling day, which I feel we're all experiencing somewhat.

    1. Re-did hwb around 0330h and again just now. Such a pleasure to do so - and tea and reading and apples, while listening to cricket/rugby/GQT[quickly avoiding JAM, which I cannot stand, unlike several here, sorry], the first of which we MIGHT win, more likely MAY scrape a draw, but even this will be quite a result:P3, D3, for generally fairly average-but-triers we.

    2. Watched a real endurance tug-o'-war between Monsieur Merle and a monstrously fat elastic-y earthworm. Guess who won?

    3. More bread out in surprisingly deep snow, which continues to fall in changing moods - icing sugar drift to horizontal splatter to slo-mo dandruff to pelting pellets to amoeboid flakes. Just now in syncopated mix of all the aforementioned. I am not remotely guilty about doing sweet rien today. Thrush has been all day visitor, too - a bonus these days. Fresh latte consumed while watching, taking pic or 2.

    4. Finished one new book, well on through another. Grauniad consumed in fits and starts.

    5. W8rs report d'hier[achieved via Buspass from P&R, tant mieux]: more promo offers on rtc items. I'd specifically hoped for more birdie loaves, needed milk. Was just at cabinet as 3 Duchy litres down to 10p appeared! Next, garlic baguettes@69p [STRIKE]£1.99,[/STRIKE]or £2 for 2 and offer didn't kick in. CS honoured offer and rtn'd further £1.99, despite my refusal and maths explanation, even bringing Mgr. Was paid £2.58p for my 2 bags of shopping+not usual regular caf![espresso machine broken down - oh dear!]

    6. All feels mightily distant from search for obscure Scout jumble sale hier matin. Bizarre address, roadworks, should-be-obvious-but-wasn't[had googled aforehand] really dug into/roused all my terrier instincts/hackles...so was not pleased to be not on time when eventually I found it. The weather, wind and weather-ruined sign[bedsheet flapping loose from gate posts, lettering become rainbow streaks], siteworks barricades even after the roadworks - all must have hit them dreadfully. However[reverse of your recent auction, chicken]picked out a few bits [allowed self £5] but am most pleased by a fine, massively heavy, well-carved frame in Grinling Gibbons style, now encasing a dreadful modern mirror. Rich, high, proud fruit/flower/foliage hardwood carving all around[sadly no putti, but can't have everything], probably once gesso'd/gilt, but it screams quality, even as it is. Weighs a ton, about 750mm x 1000mm. Another £1 on verra.
Also had v.g.carved mahogany standard lamp+superb shade £1, good old elm chair 50p, 3 less usual Portmeirion pces[to beef up an auction lot]50p, 5 Liberty mugs@20p[ditto]. It was snowing heavily as kind chap insisted on helping me ferry it out in stages, blanching as he saw already overloaded car.
I insisted he rtn indoors and eventually tractor-churned car away to P&R.

    7. How often 'Sod it!' is in my mind these days. As I waited for kettle just now, went and turned heating on to Constant and heard it crank up immediately. Will remember to put it back to its daily 2hrs, though p'raps not for a day or three:-)

    8. Failed to locate the £land handcream described, but quest potential is an anticipated pleasure already.

Don't need to add Burrows Admonition atm, but will anyway.
    Great snow pics, Frith.
Wish I'd known about Earth Day - logged for future now.
    Take care everyone.

    Evening all.

mms - many congratulations on making an offer on a house - how exciting!

lillibet - welcome! The film sounds like National Treasure, with Nicolas Cage - an utterly daft film but very entertaining. :)

purpledonkey - well done on your cake win - I think we'll all be joining the queue for your bakery when it eventually opens.

mhagster - well done on finding that handbag - what a bargain!

I've not got a lot of pleasures today, I'm afraid - mog took a turn for the worse during the night and during a (very expensive) trip to the emergency vet, the dreaded 'c' word has been mentioned. He's got to go in for an urgent appointment first thing tomorrow morning, after which I'll know for definite.

    1) Sunday, so I could sleep in a bit later after mog kept me awake for much of the night.

    2) The vet kept telling me what a lovely cat mog is - not that I need telling ;) - and her injection seems to have helped as mog has managed to eat some food and get some sleep without choking this afternoon, which is what he kept doing during the night. :(

    3) A girl (8 or so, I'd guess) at the vet's interrogating me about what was wrong with mog - her dad told me she wants to be a vet herself one day, so she's obviously getting in practice. :D

    4) Watched the replay of the grand prix when I got home -sorry, BoP, but I'm quite grateful for my 5ky subscription!

    5) Thinking I might curl up with a silly film and a glass of whisky and ginger this evening, to try and help me sleep - with a vet appointment and a hospital appointment tomorrow, I think sleep might prove somewhat elusive. :undecided

Well, whaddya know - 5 pleasures! Have a decent evening, all, and stay safe if it's snowing where you are.
Back after a very long break!

Oh CCP, hugs to you and pats for mog. At least modern vetinary medicine can give you a quick result, removing much guesswork. Hopeless to tell you not to worry, but I hope you get a decent night's rest.

You have to speculate on how a $900 handbag ended up in an op shop, though lucky Mhagster to get it. I hope there wasn't a sad story behind it. Pruene are an Argentinian company apparently.

There was a bit of loose stitching in leather on the bag ( which I will attempt to re- stitch) just looks like an ordinary bag which was why I liked it!

I'd never heard of the brand and assume neither had the op shop ladies! It doesn't look $900 worth( not that I'm sure a bag would/ should ever look $900 worth!)

However I shall enjoy using it!

Monday morning here and I have that Monday morning feeling.... However shorter working week as its Easter weekend!
