Bella, congratulations on your new star :T
House elf, your pottering Sunday left me quite exhausted!
GirlySquare, oh they love to party alright, all night! One NY Eve they were doing the Hokey Cokey up one flight of stairs, along the landing, down the far flight of stairs and back to start all over again. When I suggested, after the third circuit, that it might be time to sit down with a last cuppa I was told I had no stamina...whatever it was their GP's were prescribing them I want some :rotfl:. Thinking of you and hoping all goes well at the meeting
Cherish the memories ACEY, and your Grandma will always be near :A
My 5 -
1. ACEY's posts brought back memories of my Nana. She was the best cook on the Isle of Wight, her pastry was feather-light and her cakes legendary. She did have a secret ingredient though...she always had a cigarette in the corner of her mouth and the shaking of her beating the cake mixture often made the ash fall...
2. Lovely long phone call with DS on his 28th birthday this morning, no matter how old they get I do miss being with them on their birthdays.
3. Took DD out to lunch at a carvery for her 37th birthday today, then a quickie round the charity shops but both came home empty handed...that must be a first
4. The snow. Or should I say the rain that stopped the snow from settling. Started before I got up at 7.30am and didn't stop til about 4pm, I dread to think what would have happened if the ground hadn't been so wet.
5. Gave away a couple of things on freecycle to make room for the new dining (banqueting?) table, and a very kind person let me know she might have a mirror I placed a 'wanted' for, so I'll go and see it in the next day or so. Love freecycle
Night night (((hugs))) and sweet dreams

Morning peeps.
scotrae - I'm glad your first day went so well - it sounds like a really good place to be working.
ACEY - I hope you get some answers soon about what happened.
Ollie - yes, the weetabix cake recipe does have an egg in it, and the weetabix and fruit are soaked in 1/2 pint milk overnight so there's plenty of liquid in it. It comes out lovely and moist (or at least it does when my mum makes it - this will be the first time I've made it myself so I hope it works out!).Back after a very long break!0 -

Quick update ref my 5 for yesterday:

2. Re-establishing contact with a friend who had lost my contact details.
3. Drink in a local pub with a guy from the dating website - OK, he's not Mr Right and I won't be seeing him again, but we had a pleasant chat and a few laughs.
4. Seeing one of my gym buddies back in the gym (he's been off in Australia for a few weeks).
5. Back at work after a week off, and seeing my work colleague who I get on well with and catching up with her and her news.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Hello everyone :A tis I popping in again for a quick fix of the warm feelings on this forum.
Acey I am so very sorry about your Gran. Sending my thoughts and prayers. As has already been said, try to focus on the lovely and happy memories you have of her.
Scotrea - pleased the new job sounds to be going well for you
5 from yesterday for me:
1) Made "compost" soup from all my leftovers in the fridge. Lovely! Just about to enjoy some now.
2) Got house clean and straight after the weekend
3) Enjoyed seeing my ex battery hens tuck into their morning porridge with a spinkle of currants. They all had their toes (claws) in the porridge. I suspect they were trying to warm them up!
4) Settling down to read my "Your Family Tree" magazine which is on subscription using my Tesco CC points.
5) Cosy night infront of fire burning wood we got for free. BT took down a telegraph post and Mr Muppet asked if he could cut it up and take it a way. A few hours with a chainsaw and a wood splitter later we had a pile of free logs.
Hugs to all who need them today.Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -
Hi all, meeting lasted 1½ hours today, discovered on arrival that it was a Care Plan Approach (CPA) and discharge meeting! Thanks so much for your advice and suggestions Ollie and sparrer. Step-dad arrived on his own and did his usual thing of being extremely hard of hearing, then going off topic with long detailed stories of things that happened to him years ago, followed by looking for praise for everything he's done for mum since they met, and finally asking for sympathy as he's been left all alone at home staring at four walls and wants mum back soon! They intend to discharge mum next week and I'm hoping we achieved something during the meeting, Ollie and sparrer hope you don't mind me pm'ing you both with details and request for more advice on what, if anything, we can do next to increase chances of mum having a successful return home.
Mine for today:
1) tea and toast in bed
2) cuddles from dd, very exited as playdate organised this afternoon both girls had a lovely time
3) very productive meeting at work this morning, got away late and still managed to arrive at CPA meeting on time
4) me, sister and auntie presented united front during CPA meeting, a rare event!
5) Nigella's meatballs when I got back courtesy of dp, yummy!
ACEY thinking of you
scotrae glad to hear that you're enjoying your new job"We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright0 -
1) Made "compost" soup from all my leftovers in the fridge. Lovely! Just about to enjoy some now.
I imagine this is what I call veg drawer soup - different every time, but nearly always pretty good!
My five for today:
1) Leftover fresh mango on my porridge this morning. I wasn't sure if it would be a good combination or not, but it was actually very tasty and I'll be having it again.
2) A nice silly day at work with lots of laughter. I'm very lucky to work in such a friendly office.
3) Decided I didn't fancy the meal I had planned for tonight - quiche and salad seemed like a good idea on the sunny afternoon when I wrote my meal plan, but didn't seem nearly as appealing on a chilly February evening. A quick trawl through my hm ready meals dug out a portion of Indonesian beef stew, which sounds like a much better idea.
4) And the quiche (or rather half-quiche) that's been defrosting in the fridge will make a nice lunch tomorrow with the last of the tomato and pesto soup. I love it when a plan comes together, even if it wasn't the plan I'd originally planned on. :j
5) With a lot of inspiration from this forum I've put together a meal plan for the next two weeks. I can be organised when I try!(All I've got to do now is stick to it...)
Oh, and one more -
6) The fluffy socks my grandmother bought me a few months ago, knowing how cold I get. I've now got warm feet for the first time all day.
Right, must go - I hear my beef stew calling me. Have a good evening, everyone!Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening all
Mine for today
1 A nice browse in the library and charity shops even though I didnt actually get anything!
2 A very nice lady a few doors up brought round a brand new hannah montanna bag for dd that her grandaughter didnt want. Dd has not put it down since!
3 Got the last of the cabbage frozen
4 Got most of the ironing done, cleaned the bathroom including scrubbing the floor, cleaned the kitchen and tidied up the toys in the living room again! Dont think I have sat down all day!
5 Dd asked for cabbage with her tea  and ate all her tea including the cabbage
and 6 my glasses are still holding together! :T
Right, off to do another crochet teddy as dont like the one I have just spent 3 evenings making!!!!!!!!!!0 -
