  • ACEY so sorry to hear about your loss, thinking of you at this sad time.

nuttybabe don't forget Asda are doing great deals on glasses there's a thread somewhere on here.

sparrer and Ollie thanks so much for your advice and support, please keep it coming as it's great being able to pick your brains. I used to work for a mobility company and went to schemes regularly, and I remember they do like to party! Like most families I've several relatives with differing opinions over step-dad's behaviour, and how to deal with it, I’m hoping that we’ll all stand together and fight mum's corner tomorrow, will update everyone afterwards.

Dear Acey, I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Grandma (((HUGS))).

I have been busy yesterday as it was DH's birthday so I did not post. Here are mine for the last two days:

    Yesterday:

1 - Birthday brekkie for DH and the rest of family (and DS and DD's friends, one each). Traditionally when one of us has a birthday we have a breakfast party, including bubble and squeak cakes, cheese, smoked salmon, fresh fruit and danish pastries, as well as fancy bread (yesterday it was crumpets to go with the scrambled eggs) and fancy fruit juices/smoothies. I skipped the vegan thing and had scrambled egg with smoked atlantic wild salmon - yummy even if I feel a bit guilty.

2 - DH loved his presents from all of us.

3 - To the Farmers Market with DH, we did not walk it because of the cold but it was nice to go together all the same.

4 - Morsbagging late in the afternoon and made a bag as a present for a friend who was expected as a visit in the evening.

5 - My friend (an OSer, HELLOOOOO!!!!) and her DH came over to celebrate jointly her birthday (a few days ago) and my DH's. We ordered a curry takeaway and watched the DVD of Housewife 49.

6 - My friend liked the bag I had made her in the afternoon, with very thick fabric that I got out of a skip! Truly OS!!! I am so glad that I have friends who appreciate fabric out of a skip, I bet that a lot of people would find it offensive if I said: "Do you like it? I got it out of a skip just for you!":rotfl:

7 - Lots of leftover curry. Again, because I was in the company of OS friends they did not think bad of me for scraping bits of leftover food here and there and refilling takeaway containers to freeze for another meal in the future.

    Today:

1 - Easy start of the day with breakfast in bed courtesy of DD, leftover apple crumble and custard from last night meal.

2 - On the work front: lots of work done and up to date with everything (except filing!). Good meeting with my boss.

3 - Back home, nobody here so a peaceful afternoon checking emails and posting stuff here.

4 - Planning a quick dinner of pasta and chickpeas (from a tin) and salad.

5 - Anticipating our last dancing lesson of the series and planning to rejoin from the week after next for a few more weeks.

Have a good evening everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

OK, I'm going to have to cure my curiosity - Caterina, what is Morsbagging, please? Whatever it is, that:

is just brilliant. Love it!

    My five for today:

    1) Had a nice chat with a lady while queuing in the post office, and pointed out a different queue for her that an employee had told me was far quicker (it was too late for me as I was at the front of the queue after waiting for 40 minutes, but I hope she got out quicker than that).

    2) When I eventually got back to the office there was HM tomato and pesto soup waiting for me. It didn't turn out quite as intended and tasted slightly like Heinz tomato soup, but that's not entirely a bad thing.

    3) Following a discussion on this forum (possibly on this thread - I've lost track :o), I asked my mum for her recipe for weetabix cake, which will be a treat for breakfast next weekend. That's not quite as indulgent as it sounds - it's more like teabread than cake, and fairly healthy as it's mostly fruit and weetabix (yes, I'm trying to justify myself here!)

    4) It's been damp and chilly in Portsmouth today, so just getting home to my nice warm flat and putting the sausage and veg casserole in the oven was rather nice. :)

    5) I've tracked down the Hairy Bikers' Mums Know Best series on the BBC player, and plan to sit down and watch a bit after dinner. I watch TV so rarely that it's a real novelty for me.

    Have a good evening, everyone.
Back after a very long break!
  • Big hugs to you Acey so sorry about your Grandma.

Hi all, hugs to all who need or want them. Extra hugs to Acey.

    Here's mine:

    1. The gas meter (prepay) not running out before I could top up - so stayed warm.

    2. Sainsbug £5 recipe of Jamies beef stew and herby dumplings being nice - and the dumplings turned out well in the slow cooker (never made them before).

    3. Watching the snow.

    4. If I keep to plan, the food shopping bill has been reduced by £100 this month - and there have been no complaints so far and no-one seems to be feeling deprived :D

    5. There being lots of advice and recipes on here to reduce my shopping bill even further ;)

    6. Not having to get up early for work - for weeks to come! :D

    Evening all

Acey - I am so sorry to hear of your loss.

Ollie - That website looks great, thank you. Have added it to my favouites to check out when I have time. My glasses are staying in one piece for now!

GirlySquare - Thanks, I will check that out, not sure how long mine will stay together now anyway!

    Right, mine for today -

1 Cleaning up all the kids toys and sorting through them and cleaning and de-cluttering a bit of the living room

2 De-cluttering and cleaning the kitchen

3 4 Loads of washing (not done much for the past few days so built up alot!!!)

4 All of us going to the dentist and only needing a quick polish! Such a relief as I am terrified of the dentist even though the new one we have is brilliant and not at all scary like my last one who on my last visit decided to give me a filling without any anesthetic or even telling me - he just started drilling!!!

5 Leftover tea that everyone ate!!!! Even dd although as we were so late getting back from dentist we had baked beans rather than actual veg so no wonder she ate it all!!! All dh ate it as I still havent told him I put tomato sauce in the homemade bbq sauce that coated the chicken - i remember once in a restaurance he sent his food back as there was a tiny dot of tomato sauce on the edge of the plate!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats it, back to my crochet teddy bear. Hopefully he will be finished tonight!
