    Hi all,
Hugs to all that need them and want them. Hugs to Acey too and Acey's granma.

    1. Seeing friends who have moved back after 4 years in another city.

    2. HM burgers and potato wedges all eaten and appreciated.

    3. Gammon bubbling in the slow cooker.

    4. A full freezer.

    5. Being able to give my sister some recipes for cakes/muffins over the phone. Cakes have always been my thing to cook :D

    6. Chatting to MIL about ancestry website and what you can find out and stepson asking if we can log on together and if he can do some. Seemed very excited when it gave a hint for him and when his birth was registered. He asked if he was related to anyone in the 1800's too :rotfl: but we haven't got that far yet!

    Good afternoon everyone!

ACEY - I'm so sorry you're having such a bad time at the moment. I really hope everything sorts itself out really soon, and your grandma starts feeling better even sooner than that.

house elf - I hope you had a lovely day today to make up for yesterday.

Hester - well done for keeping your patience! Just keep taking deep breaths...

My five for today (early as it is):

    1) An idiotic wood pigeon flew into my patio doors this morning - it flew off uninjured and the marks of its wings prompted me to give all the windows a good wash. Result all round, really! :)

    2) As a reward for the window washing, I treated myself to a bacon sandwich for lunch, using the last of the whoopsied bacon from Thursday (which has been in the freezer ever since). :):)

    3) I have somehow managed to resist the temptation to do any baking this weekend - the "what have you baked today" thread is most unhelpful when you're trying to lose weight. :(

    4) To console myself for the lack of anything sweet and tasty I've made a loaf of spelt and seed bread and some tomato and pesto soup, so that's lunch for the next couple of days sorted out.

    5) I treated the cat with anti-flea drops without the usual hysterics (the cat, not me, obviously). Someone tried to strangle him when he was a kitten, so I can excuse his dislike of human hands anywhere near his neck - it's nice to get the job done without hissing, growling and hiding behind the bed, though (err.. that's the cat again, although I'm tempted by the hiding option sometimes!)

    6) Now last weekend's RSPB bird census is over, all my birds are back. It's a shame they weren't around to be counted, but then they never are - how do they know to vanish on that one weekend of the year? (The old confused smiley would be so useful here...)

    Have a good rest-of-weekend, peeps!
Back after a very long break!

    Evening all,

Sorry to hear some of you are having such dreadful weekend. I hope the new week brings relief and happiness.

    Welcome Keys!!

    1) Dropping some old cardboard boxes off for a nice couple who requested them on freecycle.

    2) Selling yet another book on Amazon, I have two to post tomorrow. I am sure that the facilities manager at work is getting fed up of posting stuff for me (I do pay for the postage though!!) I might have to take him some biccies when I next do a batch.

    3) Went to my first IVC meet up this afternoon. We sent for a 5 mile walk which was really pleasant. They were a friendly bunch, however I was expecting a wider range of ages... everyone else was a good 10-15 years older than me. I might just join for the walks though.

    4) Speaking to my mum - I am going to give her a call in a little while

    5) Yummy fish pie that I am in the middle of making.

Keep warm everyone and have a fabulous week.

    L

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

I'm back, the bathroom is now sparkly clean, just the rest of the house to attack now, lol.

    1. My lovely daddy came and picked up DD and has taken her back to their house for a day or so, so that she can get over this nasty cold/ear/throat thing. I could work from home, but in reality it's quite difficult when you are needed for cuddling duty, so it's a relief that she will have a really restful time and be pampered.

    2. Took advantage of being home alone to go and have a sauna/steam/jacuzzi, mmmm, very relaxing.

    3. Popped into Mr T's and bought some YS Jam!e 0liver pasta, they must have overstocked, as they had bags and bags of it reduced in the cheapy section, yet exactly the same stuff with the same use by dates in the normal section was full price. Oh well, we won't need pasta for months and months now!

    4. Lost 1lb :)

    5. Good job I bought the soup on Friday, it was just what DD needed at lunchtime :)

    6. Feeling chuffed with myself that I have blitzed the bathroom!

    7. Daddy bought me a Sunday newspaper, I don't think there's anything interesting on TV tonight, so might put some music on and read.

Welcome new posters! Mine for today:
    1) tea, croissant and jam in bed
    2) mini lie-in due to dd being tired after yesterday's shenanigans. Ollie you're right, I'm sure that the playdate being cancelled had something to do with it. Cancelled at last minute as friend's mummy was poorly, and forgot all about it.
    3) long telephone conversation with my sister as social worker meeting family next week about mum being discharged from hospital and going home. Mixed feelings about this as I'm sure mum will be back in hospital within three months as mum and step-dad won't cope. Ollie and sparrer I so wish she was going to a scheme instead, step-dad is dead set against it
    4) visiting mum today first time in three weeks due to my being poorly, although she's much better my opinion hasn't changed about her going home
    5) dp made mince with mashed potatoes, real comfort food hitting the spot!

Hello, have been hectic busy at work recently so very tired when I get in so only really get a chance to have a quick browse when I get in/on my days off....
    Pleasures for today
    1) popping into waitrose for parsley and cider for a recipe and ending up with 10 FR chicken leg portions, 350g FR turkey breast 300g FR turkey escalopes, and 350g FR hampshire pork shoulder steaks, and a bottle of wine (as well as the parsley and cider) for a grand total of £20 :j
    2) doing a freezer inventory of both freezers, and realising really don't need to buy any more meat for a while, but have done a good job of clearing out the HM micro meals (OH works long weekend shifts where cannot leave office, no canteen so is HM meals or he gets a takeaway:eek:)
    3) making a HUGE vat of HFW sausage and root veg stew from river cottage everyday (SO huge I had to decant from my 24cm le creuset to the 28cm/6.7L one to have room for it all) with big pot for dinner tomorrow, 2 large bags and a HM micro meal in freezer
    4) getting a pasta bake ready for dinner on tuesday (and a HM pasta and sauce ready meal in freezer:D)
    5) we had a good clean of the house yesterday so haven't had to do any cleaning bar wiping sides after cooking, no washing to be done, and as OH is at work have had a great day on the sofa watching restaurant in our living room, then come dine with me, thinking I am sure I could do better :rotfl:

Thanks for all the supportive messages. :-) Still no change with Grandma but I am going to find 5 positive things to write about if it takes me half an hour!

    1) Magically, the house is quite tidy despite my cold and lack of action!

    2) Went to mum and dad's for lunch. Sausages and only bigger son connected the sudden lack of 2 pigs in the wood and the sudden appearance of particularly fine sausages...

    3) The boys had a good go on the trampoline at mum and dad's.

    4) Went swimming with my brother. My sister had bought the boys some new floats and 4 rings that sink to the bottom and the boys loved those. In the end, my brother put the rings across the pool and we all had a sort of relay race. Bigger son learned to do a running dive, little son worked on his ordinary dive and can now do a backwards somersault!

    5) Had a couple of phone calls from my sister. The silly ex boyfriend has re-surfaced (was away for 3 weeks) and his texts and phone calls have upset her again.

    6) Comfort food tea of tomato soup and cheese on toast.

    7) Going to go to bed early-ish and am looking forward to listening to the Archers omnibus on iplayer while I'm in bed.

Nothing particularly to look forward to tomorrow, I'm seeing Grandma between 4 and 5 (visiting hour) but will phone earlier in the day (as a previous poster suggested) and see if I can go round on lunchtime instead and perhaps I can "make" her eat it. Or at least a bit. I'm trying to get my brother to come with me for the visit too. Mum and dad are taking another auntie for chemotherapy in Shrewsbury so can't visit Grandma at all tomorrow.

Acey - I hope your Grandma starts improving soon and sending you big hugs for all the crappola you're having to deal with.
    Here's my list of blessings.
    1. Had a very lazy but nice weekend.
    2. got time to make a couple of birthday cards for my little big sister yesterday.
    3. took our coin jar contents to a coinstar machine today and came away with £99.58 !!!! I was all for saving it for Christmas but DH said no we should treat ourselves. So we've split it 3 ways with DS. I'm going to buy a few small dishes and silicone baking stuff to make cakes and buns for the freezer, can't get out of OS mindset .)
    4. Made cherry, currant, cranberry buns and two huge gingerbread cakes, some to freeze, some to scoff. It's the first time I've made gingerbread and it's very scrummy. I'll have to be careful all this HM stuff is making my belt tight, can't stop nibbling :)
5.got a delivery from Mr T today so nicely stocked up now.
    6. collecting my Mum in the morning after driving DS to school and DH to work, so I'm sure we'll do a bit of bargain hunting, charity shops here I come !!!
    7. Off to watch Larkrise now, have a cup of Earl Grey and do a bit of sewing, OS it's my one weakness :)

    Hello everyone

    Mine for today:

    1 A lie in :j

2 Hobbycraft!!!! Went there today to get a soldering iron and it was my heaven. I just walked round thinking I could spend a fortune!! Just got he soldering iron and I think I can get some stuff alot cheaper on ebay and in pound shops but it was so nice to look!

3 A lovely roast for tea. Dd ate cabbage and even asked for 1 carrot which she ate!!! :T We are having alot more good days with her eating now.

4 Dh is currently trying to fix my glasses. I broke them the other night so have had to wear my contacts during the day and only wear my glasses in the evening with plaster holding them together (yes, just like Jack Duckworth did!! :p). Fingers crossed it works otherwise I will be getting the cheapest pair going!!!! Cant complain as they are about 7 years old so lasted well!

5 Ds2 playing trains! He just sat there for about 2 hours watching the train go round and round and round the track! His grandad will be so pleased - someone to take fotting!!!

6 Cant leave ds1 one out! We looked at his homework and it was spelling. He can spell pig and hen. I was so surprised! He has come on so far in the last few months! Some of his classmates dont even get the reading books and he is now spelling some words as well. I am so so so proud of him.

Thats it for me. My glasses are cooling (solder) and I couldnt keep my contacts in any more so squinting alot!! Will try to do a bit of crochet I think.

    Hugs to Acey ((()))

    My 5 for today:

    1. Getting to the gym even though I was very tempted not to go - exercise doesn't come naturally to me and I was pleased that I went.

    2. A great day on the domestic goddess front - made yoghurt, spicy lentil soup with loads for the freezer, spicy pasta with enough for tomorrow's lunch, and prepared a big chilli for the slow cooker tomorrow. Also a batch of hummus.

    3. Chatted online to a really nice guy on the dating website. We're going to chat on the phone sometime soon.

    4. My muse coming back - got going on a new short story this evening. I love it when that happens - when I can't wait to get on my computer to write. Other days the muse is more elusive...

    5. Bought my travel insurance for my big trip, at a good price, and managed to squeeze it into February's budget by trimming some other things. OK, February will now be tight, but thanks to the frugal skills learned from this site, I can do it.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.
