    5 for today:
    1. Finding that the economical HM lemon cheesecake I'd made up as I went along last night had actually set overnight without gelatine or anything.
    2. Inspired by Acey's posts about her garden clearup, I had a great workout in my own 'outdoor gym', whilst my boys were at a party and DH was at a meeting. I cut back, pulled up and filled black sacks from out relatively small patch (see below).
    3. I discovered that the dreadful invincible pampas grass which we inherited has largely rotted away at the base, so I've stripped it as best I can and shall ask at the garden centre what's best to put on it to kill the darned thing, once and for all. My arms look as though I've been running a knife back and forth across them though. (Note to self - wear long sleeved top for Day 1 in the new job.)
    4. DH admitting that he'd helped himself to a slice of the dessert from the fridge and that he liked it. I told him the ingredients and he said he wouldn't be eating another bit - couldn't I make him one without cream cheese because he doesn't eat cream cheese! (Even though he'd just eaten it in this and did like it!) This drives me crazy about him and my boys!
    5. Doing stacks of ironing this evening and filling DH's wardrobe with enough work shirts for a fortnight. I shan't want to be ironing in the week with this new job!

Good evening everybody  - I'm typing this very quietly, so's I don't wake dgd2 and gds1 - both fast asleep at the moment - awwww, bless .

Reverbe - some great movies there AND freebie Ben and Jerry's - that's my idea of 'pleasure'.
GirlySquare - oops :o - his actions sounded so 'female' that I was sure you were talking about the 'office bltch' back there - I'd be leaving him a pack of 'feminax' on his desk - nooooooooooooo Ollie, that's NOT nice :naughty: - go sit at the front of the class where Miss can keep an eye on you!!!!! Shame dd's friend let her down for the playdate - do you think that's had something to do with her being 'unsettled' tonight? Hope things get better crossfingers.gif.
Ladyhawk - woooohoooo - wd you on fixing the washing machine AND saving yourself a callout fee :j. I suppose that's the problem with going to a charity shop in a 'posh village', they're used to charging much higher prices AND getting away with 'forgetting' about the reduced sales prices - so good for you :T.
zarazara - what a delightful way to spend a lovely weekend off .
CCP - congrats to your sister on being offered the job she went after :) and good luck with the books at the second-hand bookstore crossfingers.gif .
Caterina - brilliant 'girly day' complete with afternoon tea - wtg to you and your friend ;).
jollymummy - lol at your DH and DS making a go-kart - I wonder who it was really for though ;). When we were kids we used to call them 'tut-tuts' or 'trolleys' and would race them through the park opposite where I lived. One of the paths was a hill going down to the centre band-stand and you could really get up some speed . Hope you enjoy reading 'Thrifty Ways for Modern Days'.
nuttybabe - sorry to hear you're not feeling too good - hope it passes soon. wd on finding the bread-maker instructions and better luck with the next loaf crossfingers.gif. Hope 'Plan A' works out ;).
newlywed - wd to your stepson on wanting to help contribute to what goes on in the kitchen - Jamie Oliver Mk2 in the makings perhaps ;). Also wd on making crumpets - great effort :T. You're so right about the ancestry stuff - the time flies so quickly and before you know it, it's 2.00am :o.
bella - what great goodies you've provided today - wtg :T.
Kittikins - Hope your DD is feeling better tomorrow - and good to hear that she's eating a little better :). Good luck with the pottery when it's fired - crossfingers.gif that it works out.
funkychicken76 - good for you looking after your 'girls' so well - obviously they thought you'd done a good job and 'rewarded' you accordingly ;). Sleep well tonight in your lovely new sheets :).
scotrae - :rotfl: at your dh - make another exactly the same and tell him you've left it out THIS time and ask him if it tastes any better ;). Best of luck with getting rid of the Pampas Grass - stuff of nightmares if you don't like it .

    Mine for today:

    1. Having a much needed lie-in .

    2. Hot buttered toast and marmalade with cafetiere coffee for brekkie .

    3. Made a pan of Cauliflower, Broccoli and Celery Soup which we had a bowl each of for evening meal and still three HUGE portions now in the freezer. I put some White Stilton Cheese in mine when warming it up and it was . (Sweated off chopped onions, cauli (including some chopped stalks), broccoli and celery in the bottom of the pressure cooker in some Vegetable Oil. Added Vegetable Stock (from cubes) to cover, brought up to pressure and cooked for 15mins. Allowed pressure to subside and soup to cool. Blended with 'whizzie-stick' - didn't add cream/milk as I knew that OH wouldn't eat any if I'd done that.)

    4. Chatted to DD this afternoon as we did some on-line family tree stuff together - this 111yrs old (well at least until we find a death record!) female relative is really bugging her ;).

    5. Made arrangements with DD's ex-b/f for him to meet me with the children at our local shopping centre so they could spend the night with us. Took them to Asda for their tea and to get a bit of shopping. Had to buy them some clothes as neither he, nor his mother had washed what they'd had on yesterday - so damned annoying when they always do this! dgd2 looked as though she hadn't even had her hair brushed today. Everything now washed and drying on the airers and rad rails - may need to give them a tumble tomorrow, just to finish them off properly.

    6. dgd2 (age 2) ate half of my soup tonight and was licking her lips for more (AFTER having had a child's portion of fish, chips and beans in Asda) - heaven help me changing the nappy in the morning ;). I've bought a potty (£1), so just maybe, she may use that instead of the nappy - we can but live in hope!

    7. Sat and watched Kindergarten Cop with dgs1 (age 8) - quite forgetting how violent the last scenes are. Luckily he fell asleep just before it got to that bit - phew!

That's my lot for today - going to go off and have a nosey at my ancestry site to see if my newly-found relative has left me any messages - we swapped photos earlier today . Hope everybody has a good night's sleep and HShugs222.gif all round - love Ollie xxx.

Hello All on this thread  I have just had a quick read through this thread and you all seem a friendly bunch , but I have never spotted it before, which can be a bit alarming considering my time recently on mse has become alot of hours :rotfl:

I like the idea that if you are having a bit of a gloomey day it makes you realise the simplest of nice things that has happen in the day that you see or do that we normally take for granted and I dont always realise how important they are sometimes and I know I need to because these are the things I would miss if they were gone ;)
So I thought I would add my five ...
    1. I was awake for hours earlier than I should have been this morning for no reason, so I was a bit tired and grumpy and dd was still in bed when I got up { this does not happen often at all } . So I went downstairs to make a cuppa and bf did it instead which made me very happy as he had to go to work knowing I was staying at home and he made me one instead { so imo It shouldve been my job to do to the brew , with him going to work and me having no plans for the day } So I made the toast very happily then realizing that my great fella does nice gestures without prompting or having to do the coffee in the first place .
    2. I whizzed round the house with the binbag collecting stuff dd had lying around from last night of paper and drawings , broken pens etc , and put the curtains in the wash which came out un remarkably a different colour - They were cream when I bought them , Cream when I last washed them , and now they have come out white !!! They do say dry clean only { as they are leather / suede sort of thing } but Ive got away with it before in the WM and they came out the same colour ..lol .. so im now happy about that as im decorating soon and it saves me buying white curtains ;) :rotfl:
    3. Best part of the day : dd doing what she does best these last few weeks and chattering non stop about anything very happily - One of those times as a mother you want to grab the memory and fill a jar with it and jam it tight to keep forever :D - So I made sure we played some fun games and toys together before she grows up and it all becomes a distant memory of when she was little
    4. De Cluttered the living room - and oh what a joy , I had things hidden under the settee that I move and replace when I vacuum and decided ive vacuumed under them for about 6 months and still dont use them so they have new homes on freecycle and dd's bedroom now {one is a toy tent for dd that only gets used in the summer -so kept that }
    5. A few friends called round un expectedly so had a nice chat with them in nice tidy living room and made sausage , mash , peas and gravy for tea { simple and conveniant }
    Well as you see my thoughts of today are really based on being lazy , but enjoying the simple things - I dont know why this is { confused smiley }
    But tommorrow is another day
    :rotfl:

Welcome keys, doesn't matter how long it took you to find us, you're here now :D, are you another night owl?
Great news about the dress Caterina, reduced, a perfect fit and already somewhere to wear it...what more could a girl want :)
Reverbe haven't you done well?! :T
Your DH reminded me of children Scotrae, if they can't see the veggies/whatever they don't like, they'll eat it. But then men are really just big children anyway, aren't they? ;)
Lol Ollie, you're so right about the invisible name plates on the chairs. Their sayings made me laugh too - for instance 'I'm goin' down the doctor wiv me legs'...well yes, it's always best to take them with you! :rotfl:

    My five -

    1.DGD and I had a lovely long lie-in

    2. A busy hour this morning sorting out the 3 (!) trials that arrived all at once and completing the questionaires for two I had on the go.

    3. DGD made a loaf, some of which we had buttered when it had cooled down. She managed to eat the crust, her favourite part, by nibbling tiny pieces. It took a while but she wasn't going to let a couple of removed tooth sites beat her!

    4. Bought DS a book he was after on Am@zon with a voucher I had from a survey, so in theory a nsd :D

    5. Just made enough on another survey site to claim a voucher for DSinL's birthday in March...he likes Am@zon vouchers so I always get him some, and DM likes Boots vouchers so the surveys save me quite a lot through the year

Night night (((hugs))) to everyone and sweet dreams..:A

    Hi everyone,:j

Busy week and sooo tired, so catch up time.....

    THURSDAY

Long day at work,Stuck in a traffic jam for an hour on the way home, just glad to be home!

    FRIDAY

    1. Early start for dd swim training but nice chat with swim mums.
    2. Monopoly project progressing well with my class, they have some great ideas. Hope I can make it happen! Thay have plans to sell it on eBay!
    3. I have noticed that people have started to congregate in my room for a chat at start and end of school. Hope this continues.
    4. Everyone home for the evening. Doing their own thing, but all together for once!
    5. DH had meeting with the bank. They are back to trying to sell us stuff rather than threaten us, so all our efforts at turning this supertanker round must be working!:rotfl:

    SATURDAY

This rang bells for me ....

    4. Acey you'll like this one. Son saying how horrible his Dad was, when he called around to his house on his way home from school. Ds said he felt very unwelcome. Then went on to say how lucky he is to have a Mum like me.I tend not to say anything bad about the x in ds earshot, so he is finding out what he's like by himself. The best way i think.

.......DMs birthday, so trip up to Liverpool to take her for a meal. Always a trial, as we dont get on:mad:. I have tried to maintain a relationship for the kids, but DD and DS1 did not want to come. They have now realised what a 'difficult' woman she is and feel Xmas was duty done!

    1. Found birthday present DM wanted in @rgos. (She didn't get me anything!).
    2. Lunch at Cafe Rouge 20% of with Merlin card. :money:
    3. Dragged DM round Lakeland at Liverpool 1. She hated it :), but I got some bibs and bobs and a reduced calendar. January is always difficult in our house as we don't have a calendar 'til Feb!:rotfl:
    4. Wallace and Grommet on the telly when we eventually got home. (M6 was closed:mad:).
5, Trying to see the funny side of our visit, and vowing not to turn into 'The Wicked Witch of the North West' when I'm older!! (Hope she doesn't end up on your scheme Ollie!)

Popping back later when I have caught up (Sorry about the mega post!)

    Have a great day

Morning all! Wishing you all a happy Sunday
    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. Double bill of NCIS, plus CSI NY, on TV.

    2. More time cooking for the freezer - delicious savoury loaf this time, which I had for tea with mash and lots of veg. Yum!

    3. Getting the offer of a free TV to replace my old one, which won't survive the digital switchover.

    4. Finding 25p in change in the pub - and picking it up in front of everyone, despite comments of "You pick up loose change??" I thought of Reverbe as I did so!

    5. My grocery shopping coming to much less than I'd anticipated, thanks to Sainsburys Basics range.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

:hello: Morning everyone - wow a couple of mins of peace and quiet. OH has taken dgs1 to the carboot sale and dgd2 is perched on the potty in front of Bob the Builder - crossfingers.gif for a result before we need to go out ;).

keys - good to see you  - I think we've all been looking for the positives/pleasures/blessings especially during the last 18mths-2yrs as things have been so hard all round. Certainly helps me in the length of the day to be counting pleasures instead of moans :). I wouldn't say your pleasures centred around being lazy - you were up early to make brekkie for your man before he left for work - flyladied the living room - laundered the curtains - made precious mum/daughter memories - decluttered the living room - entertained guests AND cooked an evening meal. If that's what you call being lazy, I wouldn't like to think what you would call being busy ;)!
sparrer - talk about sayings - there's a phrase that is often used as a skit on 'scouse talk' - frequently by Harry Enfield - 'Dey do doh - don't dey doh' (translates as 'they do though, don't they though'). Just one of those things that most scousers NEVER say, but is expected of them by non-scousers. I've got 2 ladies (94 and 81) who both use it all the time without realising. wd on the survery sites - great result if they pay for things during the year :T and lol at your dgd having a go at eating her fresh buttered crust :).
house elf - how lovely that work colleagues are seeing your room as a space where they can start/end the day with a friendly chat :). Sorry to hear that you find things with your mum difficult - I've been through that with mine in the past so know where you're coming from. Luckily mine now lives with my lovely sister (what an :A) and we can all rest assured that mum is well provided for in a comfortable home. She was ALWAYS rubbish with money when we were kids and no way would she ever be able to live alone on basic pension. HOW on earth can she 'not like' the Lakeland Shop  - I had to drag myself out of there. Do you think perhaps that it's the Liverpool One complex itself that she doesn't like - I found it really annoying to be there, but not sure why. Hey, don't worry about her finishing up in my Scheme - I'm due for retirement in a couple of years and may just be looking for a transfer to something different this year anyway - I'm feeling 'burnt-out' after 25yrs of working with older people.
savingforoz - great news that you got a TV that will work - we've had our changeover here - luckily the Housing Trust had digital aerials fitted when they built the place just over 3yrs ago. Good for you picking up that loose change, especially in the face of criticism :T - they were probably jealous that they didn't see it first ;).

Oh well - still no result on the potty yet :( - going to take her upstairs for a proper wash down and see if she'll use the 'big girl's toilet' for me. THEN I need to tackle the hair/plaits that haven't been touched since Friday evening !

speak again later in the day - have a good mse/os day all - love Ollie xxxx

Haven't been on here for ages...and reading ollie's thread made me think I really should get back to the thread as it does make you value the littlethings in life!

Over the last 24hrs my 5 OS pleasures have been:

    1. Watching some brilliant cars at Goodwood yesterday for freeeeee!
    2. Eating yummy HM meatballs in HM sauce and (not so HM) carlic bread for tea
    3. Having a much needed lie in
    4. Dancing around the sitting room with OH to Steve Wright's Sundal Love Songs
    5. OH making me several cups of tea this morning.

    Enjoy your sunday all! x
