Good evening all  - brrrrr it's a cold one tonight HSshiver.gif - even with the heating on.

newlywed - I'm sorry that your redundancy notice HAS arrived, but so glad that they've at last given you their decision - I found that the worst thing was 'the not knowing' oen way or the other. Now you can fully concentrate your efforts on taking stock of what you want from a job and make a decision on whether you want to stay in the same field or take a 'side-ways move' into something similar or totally different. Whatever you choose to do, best of luck with it - and in the meantime, you've got 'gardening leave' :j:j. wd on showing your OH on how/where to get a bargain on diy tools.
Caterina - wtg to you and your family on getting through your 'blackout evening' - memories of the powercuts of the early 70's when dad brought out the calor gas camping stove for cooking on - hotpots and stews cooked in the pressure cooker .
    scotrae - What a brilliant spa-day idea and such a bargain :j.
sandy71 - wd on your success with the Weetabix Cake - that's one that never works out for me :( - not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if I wrote the ingredients list out wrong. My efforts have always turned out so DRY that it crumbles instead of slicing . :rotfl: at the idea of putting the contents of your son's bedroom on Freecycle.
nuttybabe - your Dad's bookmark is fabulous :j. wd on your birthday/christmas pressie bargains - great stuff .
CCP - awwww - thanks for sharing your mishap after all - I for one would have been puzzling all night. Hope you find the paddle when you get to the middle of the loaf :rotfl:. Spring-like sunshine and 'flirty sparrows' - sounds like winter is turning after all, at least 'down south' - think it'll be another couple of weeks before it reaches us ;).
budgeteer - many thanks for the cookie recipe - now copied and save into my RECIPES FOLDER :T.
GirlySquare - lol at 'step away from the handbag, Girly' remark - you maybe need 'Hester's little friend' around with her brolly to give her a prod - cattle prod that is ;).
bella - lucky you on the snowdrops and crocus - a lovely sign of the hope of spring at this time of year .
jollymummy - wd on your Coca-cola Chicken and wd to your DS on improving his behaviour :j - amazing what a little [STRIKE]bribery[/STRIKE] reward system will do ;).
Tealady - wd you on speaking to the school about the bullying - things like that have to be spoken about, no matter what kind of 'rules' the kids have about it - hope the bully is made to realise the effects of his behaviour and that it's the end of it now. Sounds like you all have a wonderful weekend planned so bday2.gif to your OH.

That's me about done for now - I'll post my own in the morning - just off to do some more 'family research' stuff - still looking for 'royalty and/or skeletons' in the closet ;) - love Ollie xxx

I'm poorly, sore throat etc. :-(

    But.... 5 for today!

    1) Carried on with the massive spring clean. Sorted the garden a bit more, brought logs in, did normal household type jobs. Also sorted out ALL my paperwork and made sure the car insurance, log book and MOT were in one folder, all the house things (like mortgage) in another and so on.

    2) Phoned British Gas who have supplied my electricity since last Autumn. The people who rented the house next door to mine sent in meter readings but said they lived at my house! Its caused no end of confusion. After an hour talking to BG then half an hour talking to NPower (my old supplier) its sorted and they owe me some money!

    3) Had a nice chat with my sister.

    4) Sons had their Blue Peter badges presented to them in assembly. Also, bigger son had been upset that he had been moved off the top table to the point where I went in to ask his teacher if everything was OK. Turns out she has tried sitting him at every table, in the vain hope he will stop talking! So he's back on his normal table again, with threats of moving again ringing in his ears from the 2 of us and he's much happier.

    5) Felt a bit rubbish but managed a tea that they liked - made chicken nuggets followed by apple and raspberry crumble. Raspberries from dad's garden last summer, apples from Mr T!

    L
No good news about Grandma, making no improvement at all. I'm going to see her tomorrow with my sister and have to say I am dreading it. I've never seen her properly ill before and it'll bring back memories of my Grandad slowly fading away a couple of years back. This really isn't like her at all, any other time she would be directing operations from her bed, waiting to be up and about bringing the other patients cups of tea! (I'm not joking, I've actually seen her do that!)

ACEY hope you're feeling better soon, and sending wishes for your Grandma.
Ollie like you we experienced a move of 50% of the tenants of another scheme to mine when the other was due to undergo a refurb. 'My' ladies were laying down the rules before the others even arrived, 'I'm not giving up my space in the hairdressers/luncheon club/coffee rota' etc etc...when the others began to arrive they were like puddy cats showing them the ropes and routines :D. Worse than children!
Bella my snowdrops started to arrive in Dec! The crocuses still haven't shown yet though...wonder if they will now.
CCP I did a similar thing once, but I tipped the contents of the pan into a bowl before putting the paddle on the spindle. I did turn it off first though :D and luckily it came out reasonably well...that is, just about edible. Waste not want not!

    My 5 -

    1. DGD2 had 2 teeth out yesterday so has come to stay with Grandma for the weekend, where, she says. she's allowed to stay up late and eat ice cream. Nice to know I'm useful for something! Like her Mum her teeth were crowding so some had to come out to make room for the others before she has her latest fashion accessory, her brace, fitted.

    2. Although she says she's still feeling a bit under the weather DGD2 managed to put away a bowl of soup,a small amount of pasta, some rice pud, some ice cream and half a litre of cranberry juice. She's13 years old, reed thin and eats almost as much as her 6' 4" dad . So unfair!

    3. When visitors stay over they have my king sized bed while I have the small bedroom/office with its junior bed as everyone else is taller than my 5 feet nothing, even DGD2. It's really quite cosy in here now I've given it a bit of a tidy up, which only ever happens when I have anyone to stay :o

    4. DD's birthday present arrived today, a pink check jacket for her to wear when she's showing her dogs. She and DS have their b/days on the same day albeit 9 years apart..lousy family planning ;)

    5. QI, Pop Star to Opera Star and Jonathan Woss...what more could I want for an evening's viewing? Perfick :D

Night night (((Hugs))) everyone, sleepy tight

Have a great os week end, hugs to all who need them :A . Love BTxx

Ollie good luck with the family tree, it can become quite addictive, i've a friend thats been working on hers for about 3 years. She has travelled quite alot to meet up with other distance family members. Enjoy..... blue blood or not.:rotfl:

Newlywed - hugs, enjoy your garden leave, just think of the positive - you're being paid to sit at home :) Like someone else said, hope it lasts long enough for you to enjoy, but not too long....

    Mine for yesterday....

    1. A lovely freecycler giving me a personal CD player that I put a wanted notice up for. It's great :) I have some hypnotherapy CDs that I want to listen to in bed, but don't want booming around the room potentially waking DD/neighbours up, now I can relax in peace :)

    2. DD did a Reverbe and found 1p at the swimming pool - safely tucked away in her money box to save up for hopefully going to Disney in 2012. I'm so proud of her, 4 years old and a little MSEer :):)

    3. Bought YS bread rolls for her packed lunches next week, rather than buying a loaf of bread that might tempt me to make toast and break the diet, these rolls aren't remotely tempting for some reason!

    4. Lost 1lb. My skirt felt loose, hoorah!

    5. Bought DD ann annual swimming pass £80, the day before it goes up £20!! Once she turns 5 next month, it would cost £3.50 a time to swim, so we only need to go twice 2x a month to pay for the pass. Think I'll have to save up for next year's one over the year, growing up is an expensive business isn't it?!?

    6. Have made plans to go out for a cheap night out with a girly chum during half term when I don't have to worry about a babysitter.

    7. Picked up "Sucking Eggs" from the library (thanks for mentioning it Caterina and others, it's really interesting).

    8. DD's favourite soup on 342 at Mr W's, useful for emergencies when she's just ravenous and can't wait 10 minutes for me to rustle something up. Naughty spend but it doesn't contain anything I wouldn't use myself.

DD's feeling poorly today with a cold/ear ache so we're having a pyjama day, and I must tackle the kitchen floor, it's filthy :( Hope to have 5 good things to share later.

    Have a lovely day everyone

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. Having a lovely lunch with a friend and trying out a new cafe. The menu and food weren't great, but it was lovely to see her again and catch up.

    2. Curry in the evening with 9 of my work colleagues from a previous employment - we had a great time (I'd not seen some of them for about 9 years and it was really good). We'll be doing it again.

    3. Making it to the gym - I have been a tad remiss this week, but got there yesterday.

    4. Having some time to spend cooking - made a batch of burgers for the freezer.

    5. A lovely bright sunny day here in Bristol.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

Good Morning everybody - oh well 2nd posting attempt this morning, so crossfingers.gif that I can keep my connection THIS time round.

ACEY - wd you on managing to keep going even though you've been feeling so bad - I'm such a wimp that I hide under the blanket/duvet on the sofa till the germs decide to give up on me. Also wd on sorting out your gas supply problem - neighbours of ours did the same thing to my b/f over gas supplies and we had a devil of a job getting it put right - took 6-8wks eventually. Hope your Grandma shows some signs of improvement/motivation soon - pray1.gif for her.
sparrer - oh - they are definitely like 'kids in a playground' - will welcome the newcomer as long as they DON'T sit in their chair :rotfl:. awww your poor dgd with her problem teeth - but don't they just know where to come for 'tea, sympathy and ice cream' to recover afterwards - straight round to Nanna's ;).
bunny too - Good luck with the visit to the Garden Centre - I've had to ban myself from our local one after my last visit. The 'bargains' got to me and so did the cream cakes in the cafe :o. Not sure if I'll be travelling to visit any 'lost rellies' but I'll be pleased to find a death certificate for my dad's birth mother (we have her name as she was my 'nan's' sister - formally adopted within the family) - but just can't seem to track down her death - very intriguing at the moment :).
Kittikins - wd you on the swimming pass for your DD - great bargain :T. Can you set up a bank account for saving up in for annual expenses and try to set aside 12th of the cost of things as a monthly direct debit into it - would that work for saving for next year's pass? Don't even know if that's possible in your circumstances, but sounds good in theory - know for sure it wouldn't work with ME (if I know it's there, I'll have it :o!). I agree with you - hot buttered toast () is a diet killer!!!!!
savingforoz - great busy day there, girl - two sociable meals out, then gym AND making home-made burgers - I'm going for a lie-down to recover from reading about all that activity ;).
sandy71 - you are definitely making me determined to solve my Weetabix Cake problem. Maybe I need to re-examine my recipe and double-check with a couple of other sources to see if I'm doing summat wrong in it. Good luck with your freecycling .

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. Fairly quiet day in work - no major problems. Had a phone call to let 'the office' know when I want a couple of men to come and assemble our garden furniture items for the tenants who've worked so hard on their gardening.

    2. Lovely chat with DD during the day - she's really getting into the family tree stuff too and is determined to track down our elusive death record. She's so interested in what could have become of my Dad's birth mother - I suppose as a single mother, the plight of another single mother (her biological great-grandmother) 80yrs ago is of interest to her. I've an awful feeling that we're going to find her records as possibly being in a Workhouse or similar institution - unless she married somebody AFTER my dad was born. But we've tried searching for a marriage record and nothing is coming up for that either.

    3. Delicious Steak Pies (well-whoopsied!) with mashed pots and (microwave steamed) whoopsied baby-veg-medley for evening meal - OH loved it, but said the pastry wasn't as good as mine :T - he knows how to flatter ;).

    4. Emmerdale and Corrie on Tv last night - ooooooo both getting very exciting :j.

    5. Messages from 'family connections' - great to know that there's other people out there with a bit more knowledge than I've got where family is concerned.

I'm going to get off now and get a shower (lazy mare that I am!) - need a visit to Asda today for some Soya Milk and Margarine - got dgs 1 and dgd2 visiting overnight. Heaven help us - I'm a glutton for punishment ;)! Speak again later (IF I can get 'little miss night garden' off the comp) - love Ollie xxxx

Ollie I'm rofl :rotfl:as the irritating work colleague is a man! Actually, imo you're were right as he's a man masquerading as an old woman and every so often he tries to initiate a handbags at dawn session, usually at a time when I'm really stretched and could do without it. Not just me, and we all refuse to rise to it. Hester next time I'll visualise your dlf coming at him with an electrified umbrella! Once I was tempted to put evening primrose in his in tray but decided it was a step too far :D
GirlySquare - lol at 'step away from the handbag, Girly' remark - you maybe need 'Hester's little friend' around with her brolly to give her a prod - cattle prod that is.
