    2. Yay, lost another pound this morning :) One stone gone now

    3. DD sounds a bit better but won't be back home til Wednesday :( I'm missing her soooo much, but she's getting rest and cuddles with her grandparents.

    4. 2 people told me how good I'm looking today, bless'em.

    5. Have found another DVD to list on Amaz*n
  • 1.Another kitty cuddle in bed this morning.

2.SNOW! Even if it was fleeting ( apols to everyone who has bad snow - I'm in the deep SE so it is a rarity and I am a snow freak).

    3. Discovering I LOVE my homemade lower fat houmous in wraps with salad followed by fruit for lunch! I may manage to diet yet!

4.Having the opportunity to wish a work colleague luck before an exploratory op tomorrow. Odd I know but it seemed right for her to know she had us all behind her even though she has only been with us a short while.

    Put the kettle on. ;)

    Evening all...

Hope you have all been warm and toasty today... brrrr it's been a tad chilly here!!

    1) Sold another DVD on Amaz*n... woohoo!!

    2) one of the girls from another team went on maternity today... but left us crispy creme doughnuts.... YUM!!!!

    3) Yummy fish pie for supper (left over from last night). I only got home from work at 8.30pm so it was nice to not have to think about it.

    4) The extra couple of hours at work have left me feeling a little more in control. My email are back to being managable, my 3 presentations this week have been written and I have sorted out the filming for a DVD that I am being interviewed for. It's for an environmental charity which I do a lot of work with. I am slightly nervous about appearing in this DVD but hopefully it will be ok!

    5) Hmm... not sure besides just generally feeling rather chilled out this evening. Nice hot bath and early night for me I think!

Hope everyone is doing well. Hester - how was your husband's first day? Scotrae - have you started your new job? Acey - thinking of you.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Hello everyone,

Acey, sorry to hear the sad news about your Grandma. Keep reminising about your happy memories of her. She sounds like a great Black Country girl.

(We are almost in Smethwick here).

Lost a post this morning, so lets try again!

    Sunday

    1. Pretended I did not have to go to work monday, so just pottered around, instead of the usual panic about getting ready for work.
    2. Cleaned the fridge and made a stew in the SC from bits and bobs of veg and stuff needing to be used up.
    3. Made a yoghurt cake, rocky road and some dog biscuits. Hopefully a bit more healthy than shop bought!!!
    4. DS2 went to play at friends house, then they all came over for roast dinner.
    5. DS2 doing his revision for his mocks without having to be nagged!:)

    I miss being a SAHM:(

    Monday

    1. Breakfast at Mcdonalds with DD after swimming. Rescued a free drink sticker from a cup left on another table!
    2. I have pursuaded deputy in our department that we should start a Morsbag pod.
    3. Got through a difficult day at work. Doing boring admin stuff for qualifications which kids hate, but need to be done. Managed it without incident. Result!:T
    4. Lamb chops for tea. Mmmmmmm real meat, not mince, 2 days in a row!! Using up some of the freezer bargains.
    5. Finally putting my poor feet up on the sofa to read todays posts.

    Need my bed..........night all. X

Evening everybody - not had time to post my own today, so I'll catch up first.

Tealady - sounds as though you, your OH and family all had a great weekend celebrating celebrate2.gif.
Alison - That's great a family of bakers - shove over, Warburtons ;)! You're quite welcome to your bit of snow :) - we had more than our 'fair share' a few weeks back. wd on your home-made hummous and salad wraps .
Reverbe - aaahhhh - maybe she must be a very nice girl who likes to share good fortune around everybody else then. Great freebie/bargain haul again :j - and agreeing with you about J**n T***y - the man needs to recognise that he's wasted the most wonderful opportunity of his lifetime! How many footballers would have given their 'eye-teeth' for the captaincy? - but he throws it away because he can't behave himself and act responsibly!
lilemisskitkat - very good of your parents to take the kids out of your way so you could get on with stuff :T.
GirlySquare - Best of luck for the meeting tomorrow. Make sure that you and your family have a full and honest talk with the social worker. Will your mum be seen by a Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist BEFORE leaving hospital? - she may need to equipment to help her manage everyday tasks in her home before she goes home. Always best if these things are in place in FIRST. It IS possible to have a link-up to a Lifeline alarm system if your step-dad is still adamant that he doesn't want to move - but I'm sure the SW will mention things like that. Hope things will now improve with Mr Handbag ;).
Caterina - wtg on 'skip-bagging' ;) - must be great to have OS friends who're in tune with your own philosophy :). Loving the sound of l/o apple crumble and custard for brekkie .
CCP - Can I ask you please, do you put an egg in your Weetabix Cake Recipe? I've only ever tried it without and it was so dry that it crumbled rather than sliced. I've since found other recipes that add a beaten egg and more liquid that sound as though they may work out better.
jollymummy - hope your very own little 'fireman Sam' gets over his cold soon :).
newlywed -wtg on managing not to have the gas-meter run out on you :j and on cutting the grocery bill by £100 this month :T.
nuttybabe - good to hear that your specs are still holding together . Glad you enjoyed the site - my little train-lover likes that one :).
bella - it's great that you and your dh can take advantage of all these events at the local library now that he's retired :). wtg on your mse 'promotion' :j.
bunny too - Good luck to your dd on deciding on Warwick Uni - hope all goes well for her :). Enjoy your child-minding exploits ;).
Kittikins - well done on losing a stone :T. I bet your dd is missing you too, but no doubt making the most of extra tlc at the grandparents' house ;).
Ladyhawk - wd on getting all prepared so early in the week and best of luck for the dvd interview - you go girl !
house elf - thanks for the reminder about Yoghourt Cake - had forgotten about those. I got some bargains on them at the weekend - multi-packs that shoppers had opened and couldn't be sold separately all got bagged loose and sold as whoopsies with great use-by dates on them :j. Was so hoping that some wouldn't go to waste. Happy to know that I'm not the only one who 'snaffles' the little stickers from cups in McD's :o - I've even got my dgk's looking out for them around the place too :rotfl:. Did you know that Asda cafes do loyalty cards - you need to ask for them at the till.

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. We'd had dgs1 and dgd2 overnight - both slept really well for me but oh the chaos once they woke up  - I was so glad to see dgs1 leave the house with OH at 8.30am for the boot sale :j.

    2. dgd2 used the potty twice for me - clever girl - AND she let me tackle the plaits/tats with the hairbrush. Even let me brush it through properly and put fresh pigtails/slides in.

    3. Put Lamb Stew in the slow cooker before we went out.

Sliced carrots, diced onions/swede/parsnips (all sweated off first), pieces of SmartPrice Stewing Lamb floured/browned and placed on top. Lamb stock cubes and a veg stock cube dissolved in boiling water (not too much water - can always add more if needed) and barley. Also some dried mixed herbs and white pepper.

It made such a lovely rich gravy - the flour thickened it - and we had it later with mashed pots and sprouts. There was rather a lot of meat in the pack, so have decided to make double the amount next time and then split it into 3 lots of meals for us - 2 lots can then go in the freezer for another day.

    4. Quick visit from DS2 with dgs2 and they gave me a lift to DD's house with dgd2 and all 'her stuff'. Such a relief NOT to have to struggle on the bus with the push-chair etc.

    5. Had a great visit with DD - she had appreciated the extra night of peace, though she still looked tired. I think it's the tablets that she's taking - she just looks permanently drained. I've advised her to speak to the counsellor and GP about them with a view to perhaps reducing the dose.

    6. Did some more work on the family tree in the evening - think I may need to split it up into sections as it's getting rather large now - all these big families of the past - one great-aunt had 16 children .

I'm going to get off now, as I need an early night myself. Take care all - thinking specially of you ACEY - nitey nite - love Ollie xxx

Acey - big hugs to you and yours and a little prayer for Grandma if that's your kind of thing. She sounds wonderful and I suspect that some of the spirit, strength, resiliance and love that she had for her family over all those years must have rubbed off on you. <<Hugs>>

    My 5:

    1. Dying my hair before 7.15 ready to make the right first impression with new colleagues.
    2. Feeling super-organised, making lunchtime wraps for DH and I and some for sons after school. -All from BOGOF wraps and 'not just any' yummy yellow label marinated chicken ;-)
    3. Not having to start work til 10am so cutting out a horrid half hour stuck trying to get into the city after a 40 minute cross country drive. (Thankfully it turns out that I can work my hours to suit the traffic/school run so I might even drop the boys, park the car then catch a train one day a week.)
    4. Feeling really at home in my new job. Everyone seems lovely and I'm so excited about my role ... lots of challenge and variety and just enough responsibility for making things happen. Commuting and parking will cut into the salary but I'll try to avoid getting tempted into the coffee shop and bakery trap just because it's surrounded by them!
    5. Adapting to a day of work without picking non-stop from cupboards and making it through!

Thanks for the good wishes and enquiries about the new job. It was very much worth waiting for!

Thank you, everyone, for thinking of me. Not too bad a day. No one could really do anything funeral related as the death certificate hasn't been released. The doctors couldn't agree over what was wrong with Grandma. Its all a bit of a mystery.

Not sure I'll get 5 for today but I'll have a go:

    1) Little son looked quite poorly and I thought he had my cold so he had the day off school. Cue instant improvement! It was nice to have just him with me though.

    2) Went to see my dad (Grandma was his mum). Unfortunately, he was on his own quite a lot today because my mum had said she would drive my auntie to hospital for chemotherapy and thought she could hardly back out! Dad just looked very tired (he didn't go back to sleep after the call from the hospital) and he is wondering what actually happened, like all of us. Anyway, little son and I played monopoly and went for a scooter ride down the lane.

    3) Got my free swim voucher through British Gas.

    4) Made quite a nice tea - just simple. Baked potatoes etc then another crumble. Tesco order has been placed, thank goodness.

    5) This isn't really a pleasure in any way but it is DIFFERENT not to be worrying about Grandma any more. I miss her terribly and probably always will a bit but there have been 3.5 years since Grandad died where we have worried about whether she will eat at the right time (or forget completely) or take all her pills in the wrong order. Before she went in a home she fell over once and was stuck all night on the floor. Then in the home(s) she was in I would worry she was unhappy, bored, disliked the other residents or wasn't treated well enough by the staff. Its easy to think she was in perfect health but that wasn't the case 100% of the time, looking back. To say nothing of going senile which she tried very hard to cover up.

    6) Because I've pretty much lost my voice (due to my cold) my sons read me stories at bedtime. :-)

    7) Listening to Gok Wan's desert island discs on iplayer.

Just caught up, sorry to hear your news Acey. What a blessing to have a long life of happiness.

Before I go to Bedfordshire, my 5:

    1. A simple dinner tonight of omelette and rice. Yum.
    2. Being inside on such a cold night. There's loads of folks out there. Which reminds me I must sort out some old coats, the local Sally Army is always after these to give to the homeless.
    3. Getting compliments about my hair. Funny how you do nothing much but people like it. Made me giggle.
    4. Playing with the dog tonight. I love their ability to live in the moment. Makes me all tearful!
    5. Cold gel patches. Ok not exactly OS but whenever I have a hot head/ head ache they always do the trick.

    Night all.
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
