No ceilidh vjsmum but excellent whiskey and of course craic
sparrer the botanics and round queens is lovely. Good museum.
Back home now so quick 5
1) whiskey on my porridge for breakfast :P (mhags you'd be proud, it was alt rather than sweet porridge)
2) good conference meeting old friends and making new ones
3) another great pub (soz cant remember the name) where i had a really good cider. Carsons crisp armagh cider
4) arrived in plenty of time at george best airport where they insisted my poster tube was oversize baggage and had to go in the hold (it was fine for hand luggage going out) but let me off paying
5) got off plane to see luggage already on carousel. Picked it up, bought bus ticket and straight onto bus which sailed through to haymarket and i was in time for the train 25 mins after landing :-)
Happy st david's day all. Daffodils are out in belfast. Havent looked in dundee yet. Saturday tomorrow hooray. Busy doing nuffink till ceilidh at 7 (yep vjsmum spelling right)

No daffodils here yet, we're too high up! Someone about 10 years ago planted thousands on the roadside as you drive down out of the village and you can see the ones at the bottom of the hill bloom almost a week before the ones at the top.
Here are my pleasures for today. Not too many as have a sore throat and cold.
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Nap after the boys went to school.
3) Was woken by my dad who arrived 10.30ish to ask me lots of questions about his van insurance. (He doesn't really trust the online insurance and certainly doesn't trust Quidco!)
4) Went into town to use the library computers to print out bigger son's homework. We are out of ink and it is too expensive to buy just for 3 A4 pages.
5) Got a bit of shopping and my favourite cheese.
6) Dropped some shopping off at my sister's as she is also ill and poorlier than me.
7) Smaller son had another good day at school.
8) Nice chow mein for tea using last night's chicken.
9) Sons went next door to watch the James Bond film.
10) Made a chocolate, prune and brandy tart.
That's about it! Annoying news is that SEN services phoned and every school I suggested for smaller son (now he has a statement) has turned him down - 6 schools. So I have to look at schools even further away and the county will see if any of those agree. What a palaver.
Hwb and bed now to listen to the Now Show.
P.S No dogs in this house but I can give you a photo of the 2 youngest cats....

Aww Frith, i lurve your puddytats
Okay, thought of my fifth pleasure for Friday.
5. I keep feeling a little thrill of excitement bubbling up....it is the tought that spring is just around the corner and things will be visibly growing above ground afore too long...and i shall sow seeds and some stuff will even survive!
Yay!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
NSD Challenge: October 0/140 -
I know I'll have to re-zap tea, so shall write here to no further ill-effect.
1. Didn't do Spits. Had just done petrol and money[w/d and put stall/parking£s in sep.change bags]when 'phone rang. I never answer normally and it can only have been that I was sitting in car before returning here that made me look, answer. Dr S. msg asking me in by 4 if I could, please-otherwise later home visit. NO! I'm feeling a bit like sparrer, a bit like pk - just don't understand why healthy eating/survivor/low-key lifestyle doesn't fix things automatically. So, back to bed, more stuff, another week sleeping, reading, radio. No oomph, although I keep getting up to crack on, then flop and rtn to bed, where I usually shut eyes and sleep pretty much straight away. This is not me. On SOS bus tonight too.
And still there's no sun. I just somehow feel so ashamed and SO slow, empty.
2. No daffodils either ccp, so seeing yours is lovely and I have sth similar to your b/g plant. Is that a scraggy lavender like many of mine?
3. Read a Sue Gee book from last week's village sale lot - intriguingly good. Enough to make me look her up and want to read more.
4. Still wondering where that fat green caterpillar came from at this time of year, find self watching out for same still unidentified bird. Not seen, but the back field was tractored yesterday, something spraying out from circular whirly bits. Don't know why birds ignore some feeders, not others, all identical, all with nearby tree launching pads. There's one crippled wood pigeon whose right leg is a stump - no claws at all. All this is part of idling and gazing as kettle boils and I decide what's right for petit dej. Usual qtrd orange, squeezed lemon in warm water, then half banana and cooked rtc nectarine with nat yog. Don't want any carbs or starch atm. Lots of reflection, thinking time as I look out at start of day.
5. Heavy weather of loathed officialdom and p/w atm, but sorted a couple more when not in bed. More looming unfortunately.
6. Properly awake to hear Clare Balding's Ramblings earlier, although I'm no fan of Toyah Wilcox. She still sounded self-important, self-invented to me today, but the programme itself I always enjoy.
I don't know what GBK is either - oh, just had a thought. Is it sth ending in King:-)
Also Frith, what is your Diss. work? Sounds interesting and I've kept meaning to ask. Can you buy your inks online?[saves me loads] There was a piece in last Sat's Grauniad. Ah, found it:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2013/feb/23/printer-ink-cartridges-paying-more-getting-less
dd-it's such a lift when things/times synch. like that.

Yay!
Do you know, I think this post is in the true spirit of OS pleasures. THe rest doesn't matter so much if we can think like this. Shame it can't be bottled. THank you.And still there's no sun. I just somehow feel so ashamed and SO slow, empty.
Right, stop that!!! This minute. You are ILL, woman, and you will be well again. No-one needs to feel ashamed of being ill - slow and empty, well sometimes that happens, but ashamed? Never. Look after you. xx
I am off to the countryside for a walk with the bribery of pub lunch somewhere en route. Stroppy teenager has been bribed with bacon sandwich just to get up - bad mistake from father of ST though, he delivered said sandwich to him in bed. Now he doesn't need to get upWe may need reinforcements to get him out.
I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

Hello , wondering if it's too early to go to bed? Only 8.10pm!
Ampersand please do as you are told and recuperate!
Frith I love how ginger puss has his tail over the arm of the sofa. I miss my cats but my sister keeps me updated...they were 2 characters!
1. Chat with friend
2. Date scone
3. Groceries ...not as expensive as last week and treated myself to another bouquet of RTC flowers....pretty roses, carnations and gyp.
4. Potter,potter around the house.
5. Walk to post office, party shop for helium balloons, picked up prescriptions with OH at my side.
6. We went out for a sneaky pizza ! Sat in the warmth of late afternoon sun and enjoyed it!
7. Made birthday cake.....mark 2 , mark 1 ended up in the bin (such a waste!) I used my springform tin and the mix oozed out,all over oven , such a mess and a stench off burnt chocolate cake through the house. Mark 2 very pretty, choc cake, covered in ganache, surrounded by choc fingers and filled with 3 little pigs wallowing in the mud....all wrapped in a pretty pink ribbon!
8. Watched Holby online whilst tackling monster ironing pile.
That was my day, all rather pleasant!0 -
Thanks vjm, but I still do feel that way, hence dressed now and determined to get out for a bit....even in the blutty grey gloom.
I'll add no.7 - just saw Mme Merle pecking at something beige...which then writhed about![Well, one would, wouldn't one?] and I've come in from re-doing all the feeders, fat balls, chucking old stuff around on ground. Good morning all !
VJsmum - I am trying the £30 quid thing to curb OH's desire to fill the trolley up with shi* .Don't get me wrong , I am not destitute , I just like the challenge !He is doing ok so far, but we do top up with fresh milk and bread in the week. No YUM pie - a criminal offence surely??;)
PK - thank you x I hope that you are feeling better soon xx
ampersand and Frith - Get well now !Frith your posts are so different now, from say a year ago, you sound far more "settled"
5 for today
1. Took terrier to the local park , she is great for people with disabilities as you can just sit down on the bench and throw the ball , with one of those plastic thingy's from the £1 shop and she will bring it back to you each time ,by dropping it at your feet so you can scoop it up with the plastic thingy and don't need to bend.:) How could someone have given her away ??
2.Thankfull for our really lovely local park
3.OH tied terrier to the hen house to hose her off as she was filthy .Hens not impressed but not freaked out either.More unimpressed by the water than the dog I think.
4.Roast chicken for tea - weird for a Saturday, but need a complete rest on Sundays to make my body work for the working week ahead.
5. Charged up Kindle so will start Les Mis. later
Have a lovely day all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Afternoon all.
Glad you all liked my poor, lonesome daffy.
Chicken - mog's fine, thanks for asking: he doesn't seem to have read the vet's advice that he might have a reduced appetite after his surgery and currently seems to be trying an experiment to find out how much a cat can eat before he explodes.
Katholicos - I do love your collie - she looks so sweet. :smileyhea
Frith - your ginge reminds me of my parents' one, with that constant grin on his face.
ampersand - it's a cotton lavender (santolina) which is in desperate need of a prune - unfortunately it will now have to wait for a few months as otherwise I won't get any flowers this summer.
PK, ampersand and sparrer - you all look after yourselves and don't try to do too much too soon.
1) Nice lie-in this morning.
2) It may be my imagination / wishful thinking, but I think my foot is starting to look and feel very slightly better.
3) Took advantage of a booklet of money-off vouchers which came through my door for a new supermarket which has opened nearby. :money:
4) Spent the afternoon idly watching athletics - only one British medal so far, but there's loads of time left for more.
5) It's been warm enough that I've been able to keep the heating switched off for most of the day - I've only switched it on, at a very low level, within the last half hour. :money:Back after a very long break!0
