    down in the dumps today

    1. didnt sleep well but as it was my day off work I didnt need to get up early (but I did in the end see number 2 below !! ) DS brought me a cup of tea in bed before he went to college at 8am ....without being asked !!!

    2. Was dozing off when I was rudely awoken by a car revving outside. Peeked out of the curtains to see someone trying to park a [STRIKE]tank[/STRIKE] tiny car in a huge space in front of my car.... watched car go back, forward, back, forward, up on pavement, off pavement, back, forward, back...hit my car... forward, park :( pulled on dressing gown and ran downstairs to confront driver... a young girl who seemed oblivious she had even hit me :( anyway, thankfully no damage even though I must have looked like a howling banshee with my hair all stuck up in my pj's in the street ... thank goodness it was only 8am and not many people around

    3. saved money by not going out to lunch with friend who text me to say she didnt feel like going out :(

    4. DS & I paid a visit to dentist and no work needed :D
(Sadly DS will have left college next time we visit so we will both have to pay ;) )

    5. made some xmas pressie tags for next year out of this years xmas cards with pinking shears

Have a good evening everyone x

    Evening

Thank you all for the good wishes for my mum, so far this year has been a bit eventful but hopefully things will calm down now.

    Pleasures for today,
    1. Pringles speaker arrived in the post, DD and OH fighting over it. Also got £3 luncheon vouchers from a survey I did before christmas :money:
    2. NSD
    3. Packed lunches and breakfasts for everyone
    4. Started to get back into walking today and did a 3 mile walk at lunch time with friend from office.
    5. Realised I had no tinned tomatoes to make tonights dinner so changed the meal plan slightly and turned out yummy.
    6. SIL came home from hospital today.

Hugs to all who need them

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Boys off to school happily.

    3) Man came to measure up for new window frames upstairs.

    4) Popped into town and looked round the charity shops. Got some brand new boots for £3.99! Also popped into Holland and Barrett for some St John's Wort to hopefully hold off having to get a prescription for antidepressants again. :-/

    5) Looked round the final primary school. They are full (aren't they all?!) and have 2 with statements already in year 5. *sigh* They are also voluntary controlled so have more of a say over whom they admit than normal. Not much chance there, then!

    6) Brocolli cheese for tea.

    7) Enjoyed watching Big Bang Theory just now.
  • Skint Yet Again it was a poly tint hair dye in red black(red box) pretty much the same piece of kit that mcculloch29 described. I've tried Wilkos natural black hair dye (my hair is naturally really dark) and it was good but I prefer the poly tint as the red black colour way has that bit more depth and shine to it.

    My five for today;
    1. Great big pot of soup made. I forgot that the recipe makes loads and I usually half it but this time made the full amount by accident. Lots of soup at my house...bring your own spoon :rotfl:

    2. Bought the last pair of furry lined slipper socks in B&M that I had been eyeing up since before christmas. Expected to be charged £2.99 but they went through at £1 :T a shame there wasn't more on the shelves, would have been great to put away for stocking fillers next year :money:

    3. Started serious work on my household diary, typed up a 'what meat on what day' meal plan and an 'easy, don't have to think' meal plan that I can go to when I feel uninspired or worn out. Hopefully all this organising will help keep costs down and keep me sane!

    4. Took some stuff to the charity shop, the woman behind the counter was very grateful.

    5. Bills paid :( the pleasure is that it's done for the month and as we pay over ten months we have two months no council tax for February and March...hello new chest freezer!

VJsmum I shall describe it as well as I can! The house is an end of terrace so has a front, a back and a side (the side is an alleyway with the wheely bins in it). The front side goes along the pavement. The back is the garden (little courtyard).

At the moment, the front side has its own gutter and a downpipe that runs into the road. The back has its own gutter which goes just round the corner to a downpipe on the side on the house which goes into a water butt. After half an hour of rain, the water butt overflows and it is really washing the path away in the alleyway and there is moss on the house!

The plan was to take the back (garden side) gutter around the side of the house so it would drain into the front gutter and everything would go down the road. But because the back gutter is 5 inches below the level of the front, the builder can't do that.
    .

Hmm, see what you mean. Carp design innit? Modern houses would have a gulley, but I think you said yours was really old? How about a new water butt - not much help am i? :p
Enjoy your trip Ampersand - I lurve Paris
    Enjoy your days off, Chicken.
Thanks for the good wishes, everyone. I really am going to work, but am super excited too :j I fly on Saturday. I have a dilemma though - I am due to meet the Sri Lankan minister for higher education and I don't know what to wear. I don't own a suit - and certainly not one suitable for 34 degree heat. I am hoping a pair of linen trousers, a white shirt and a loose cotton jacket will do the job. D'ya fink????

    So, for today

    1. Didn't have to leave the house till 8.20. That's late this week
    2. Had fun playing "Simon Cowell" in some students presentations. They told my colleague that "That woman is evil" :rotfl: No point telling them it was lovely - that won't help them when they graduate.
    3. Yummy tuna salad sandwich on granary. made at home and really enjoyed. I don't eat much in the way of bread so it was a real treat.
    4. Everything that can be is up to date in preparation for my trip. Workwise anyway. Got to sort out home tomorrow.
    5. Still working on project with DS. He has made a good job of it.

    Nighty night.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
