    Evening all.

DD - well done on getting the paper accepted, even if the venue isn't the most remote and exotic one you could think of!

RevolvingDoor / carolinerunner - I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with snowy windows. :D

mhagster - it's good to know you're home safely, despite the interesting journey.

    1) Had a nose round the B00ts post-Xmas sale, and picked up a box of posh, retro-themed soaps, which will be lovely when my sense of smell comes back, for £5, and some mini mince pies for the office at 29p a box. I suspect they slightly over-ordered the mince pies, as there's boxes of them everywhere in the sale section!

    2) A quiet afternoon at work so I spent the last hour or so researching hotels for a couple of OU-related trips I need to take later in the year.

    3) Decided not to go to the OU tutorial on Saturday and instead spend the time catching up on my studies, which I've got rather behind on over the past couple of weeks, and my tutor's fine with it. :)

    4) Changed my meal plan as the avocado from last week's veg box was in perfect condition and I didn't want it to go to waste: the resulting chicken / bacon / tomato / pesto / avocado on toast was a bit thrown together but very tasty.

    5) Watched the last part of a fairly interesting series about Queen Victoria on iPlayer.

    Have a good rest-of-evening, everyone
Back after a very long break!

Brevity...will attempt. Main business is getting printer working again - and it still doesn't despite massive kindness and input and effort via another Thread.
Need to set up folder for Paris.

    1. Yesterday. W8ing-rose reverbe of a green token - straight into community orchard slot. Today's gainfully given out[for sub£2 spend?]into sensory garden project. Wearing full-on hauptbahngauleiter anal rectitude, corrected 'compliments' to 'complements' on blurb.
    2. Same emporium, yesterday's apple offers. 'Jazz, [STRIKE]£2.50 per bag[/STRIKE]2 bags for £3' and 'Buy 3 bags and cheapest is free.' I love these apples, normal price is way too dear for me. Took 4 bags[and yes, dear reader, I weighed them aforehand] Offers didn't work. I explained. They didn't dispute it, just couldn't understand the maths. Finally, 3.8kg=£3, which is lovely, as are the apples. I tried in vain to show that meant too much refund, but was waved away. They were past glaze-over point.
    3. Today, same emporium. Masses of bread reduced by 90%- Hovis multigrain>19p, but 2 lots of 'Buy 2, save 40p' meant customers were paid 1p per loaf to take it away, minus a farthing for showing a My Waitrose card:T. Nice droppings off of goodies en route back.
    4. Took courage and nipped orchid tip down to eye/axil. Can see new green roots in see-through pot, so fingers crossed.
    5. Checking things on outdoor pallets under plastic[big sorting and adding to do demain, before Spits/Paris], spotted five rhubarb spears breaking through adjacent soil. Before crimbo, I split and tfr'd them from pots in which they'd been 10+years resident. Looks as if I have some survivors at least. I love rhubarb.
    6. Much research on Sunday boot bits and other old tonk, many looking decently promising. Will deffo. take the pair of 1907 Secessionist Wilkinson Royal Staffordshire Pottery hexagonal vases/Aesthetic Movement nippon influence, hand decorated over black bat tfr trellis ground, which I find handsome, feel are VERY saleable[famous last ones thereby uttered]...as always, on verra.
Also love what turns out to be a rather rare 1st issue badge[1910] for
    http://growolddisgracefully.weebly.com/appendix-1---the-church-lads-brigade.html
    - just spotted it, looking softly worn, noble, slightly primitive, a beautiful patina for old brass[not horrid screechy yellow]. Words 'WATCH AND PRAY' surmount and encircle a cross over a lion, with letters ICSP[ Incorporated Church Scout Patrol]. Original lugs and pin, sound as a bell[presence and condition v.v.v. important]. One for bay of E, prob. but it can test the air this Thursday and see how it fares.
    7. mhags will know our antipodean verb 'skite'. I'm doing it now - happy bit of OS lbm. Cut sprouts bag in 2, knotting each end, tacking S-hook through other. In go suet balls. Hang up for birdies.
    8. Big crimson blanket is finishing/airing - will have its first Foreign Jaunt with me in a few days,
    9. A clean and ordered fridge - could be a First!
    10. Brevity...nul points:rotfl:

    !. lie-in and lazy morning
    2. Meandered up to visit DD, took DGS and DGD2's birthday presents and cards.
    3. DGD2 wanted a burger for lunch so we went to the retail park in Bedford. DD drove as I hate driving in Bedford, I'm sure the road signs all point in different directions every time I go there!
    3. Sat in the car while they did their shopping then went to McD's for, fortunately cheap, junk food.
    4. Please look away now if you're easily offended - we were discussing 50 Shades of Grey, DGD2 said she's read them all. I said I didn't realise there were three books, how could they write three books about one subject and she quite innocently said 'oh, but they're not all exactly the same, they all have a different climax'. Burst of laughter from me, DD and the next table, extremely red-faced DGD :rotfl:
    5. Got home and had a lovely siesta

    Sweet dreams :)

...which means...apologies to all who thought they'd finished wading or leapfrogging[bop]

Number 10: Postie arrived as I was leaving. One large A4 envelope stood out. Good grief! Inside are my 2 Archers Anarchists decals. One's gone up straight away, top driver's side windscreen -

    Evening

    Pleasures for today,
    1. Everyone up and out of the door on time with packed lunches and breakfasts.
    2. Friend loved her birthday present, which I bought in the b00ts 75% off sale last year and repackaged so didn't look like old christmas stock:money:
    3. Lunch in the pub with said friend for her birthday, nice to catch up and have a good gossip.
    4. Visited SIL tonight and she is looking much better, same can't be said for her manners though unfortunetly :o
    5. Got most of dinner prepared before hospital visit so just had to cook some pasta when got in and reheat sauce. Good to feel organised on a busy day.

Hugs to all who need them and hope all the poorlies feel better soon.

    Sparrer - LOL your DGD
CCP - not coming up near Brum again are you?
DD - well done on the paper acceptance. I once had one accepted for Nottingham, so not much better as it is about 30 miles from here.
Chicken - I would give myself a payrise but at my staff review it was found that I have seldom achieved my targets, my work is sometimes sub-standard, I have a tendency to answer back, my attitude stinks and I spend too long on the internet, so it was refused.:p

    So for today

    1. Nice lunch with friend and DD - DD was quite grown up and not all "me, me, me" that she can sometimes be (she's a teenager, she will grow out of it)
    2. Got some bargains at Mr S. I needed to go as there are some things I can only get from there (or somewhere like it). Picked up wrapping paper for 20p a roll instead of £2, teabags for £1 a box, big box of soap powder for £6 and so on
    3. Easy teas of left overs or freezer surprise. DS had leftover christmas dinner, OH had pies from last night with the other half of the "freezer surprise" ratatouille from the bit I had with pasta.
    4. Weighed myself for the first time in ages and it wasn't as bad as I thought. About 10lb to lose rather than a stone and a bit. I've given up the booze - that should help (unless I fly, can't fly sober)
    5. Did some baking - banana bread and date flapjacks.

Early meeting tomorrow to see whether the Sri Lanka trip is a goer.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Thank goodness, I did not mean it. & has had her green token and free coffee. But I'd gues she was talking rrrrrrrrrrrr. DD, after alls my support and ribbing, you tell people's not to pay attention to me? I is hert.

Still, the book I am reviewing gives me an inside into the 28 day thingy with yous gals. Explicit I would say, but them bags in hotel does give a cover for the shave brush and sponge.

As for the book, up to page 67 tonight. And three pints f tiger. Good show. Sleep tight all.

Thank ou for more welcome back messages!

    Here are mine for today:

    1. Made kedgeree for breakfast but added spinach, I had it minus the rice and DS the full works, lovely!

    2. Met a friend for tea and a catch up

    3. The big post Christmas houseclean has started, DD and DS are helping too, it feels better to get he place back in a decent state!

    4. The cable scarf for the little girl I babysit is coming along nicely

    5. All laundry and most ironing done.

    Good night x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Chicken: We did take the COL,:o:) I know we probably sound insane doing it in the winter, but it was warm and cosy and it keeps the costs low. at 10 per night including showers and electric hook up as opposed to a scarey amount for renting a cottage.
DD. Your de cluttering is inspiring me to at least think about getting my bum into gear to also de clutter:)
Sparrer: @ your no5 fantastic, I was at work when the book came up somehow, I said it seems tame - I didn’t see what the fuss was over, collegue then said words along the lines of I obviously have a happy love life.:rotfl:
    1. Watching all the wildlife enjoy the bird food.
2.Creating a meal plan for the week ahead.
3.Created a Christmas card list, organised if I remember I did it at the end of the year.
4.I am a believer in fate but today I do believe someone was watching over us, the freezer isn’t broken yippee, DH accidently turned it off thinking he was turning off the lights when we went away, I looked into claiming it on the house insurance but it wasn’t worth it, so we went out at about 3pm, I was resigned to not getting bargains as we were too early, I couldn’t have been more wrong. As we entered Mr T we were just friendly and chatty and took the micky over something to one of the friendly staff, we explained about losing the freezer full and she told us that there was lots being re marked down as most items had today’s date on. We waited patiently chatting to her while she made her way through literally loads of food, and we came away with enough animal food to 1/2 fill the freezer, and enough food for ourselves to leave the freezer sighing. I do feel blessed come very lucky. We have just done a production line chopping it all up and portioning it up, it works out at about 20days worth of animal food.
    5. Just feeling happy and positive.

    Mammoth catch - up there...
Tealady, I am sorry.. Chicken, TG you were not badly hurt. I fell some years ago and the whole bath is now covered in mats.

DS came back from his GF's last week, but has not been 100%, so I have been focused on him and my work.

I can't really share but hopefully he will now have turned a corner. I've made a decision which may or not help him, but will help me feel in control of part of the situation.

    There have been pleasures... honest!
    1. Kept decorations up so that DGC could enjoy them, they came down a day late. So what?!
    2. Played the QI board game with DD and DGC. DGD won after two rash decisions from me! It's a good game and will bring us a lot of pleasure. With a bit of rule tinkering, I'll be able to play it with DS - it's for 3-6 players.
    3. Lots of good moneysaving meals, using up leftovers and didn't-get-round-to-usings imaginatively.
    4. Free shampoo & conditioner to trial (same as Sparrer).
    5. Lovely face - cream bought half price with voucher.
    6. Spare birth certificate arrived. Can now send original off for a Blue Badge without fretting that council dept will lose my only proof of ID.

DS helped with tea- being macho, took a bowl out of micro without gloves. Trying to manouevre quickly out of his way, as he oohed and ouched, I got burned instead when I put my hand onto the ceramic hob for support... A good deed never goes unpunished.

Thank goodness for the re-usable ice packs that I kept after I was sent a chilled product to trial. All is well after a bit of initial soreness.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
