Heres my big pleasure for today
Finding out my sons head scan had nothing bad on [he was rushed to A&E last night after loosing sight in his one eye after a burning sensation behind his eye]he was 4 hours at the hospital but got the all clear and fit enough to return home just in time for the New year
You can never know what is lurking around the corner

:A What a relief for you!

    1. Homemade Chinese meal tonight to look forward to.

    2. I added some more change to my X-mas pot so it's up to £10. I'm hoping to get to about £350 quite early in the year so I can just bank it until the big day. I don't think I have ever thought about Christmas so early before.:rotfl:

    3. I have washing to do today but it will mean I have lovely clean bed covers tonight. I am tempted to get a new set and I might if I see a bargain on King Size duvet covers.

    4. Low spend day. I had to order some special cat food online as one of my cats has a medical condition.

    5. I am tempted to order the newish SJ Bolton book to my Kindle. It is a short story so it is only £1.89. Hmm.

Morning all, get well poorlies and sympathy for those having to work. Pleased those days are over, though I did do 43 years. Just thought, that's scary! I left school at 14yrs and 362 days, my birthday falling 3 days into the summer holidays. I wanted to be a call girl (see * below) but couldn't til I was 16 so did a year's hairdressing training first. Some of the practices that went on in the salons in those days would get them closed down today, perhaps that's why I've never been afraid to chop and colour my own hair!

artydoll what a huge relief for you and your son, so pleased the outcome was the right one. May you be blessed with no worries in 2013, you've certainly had your years share already
DD I used to love the feeling of a sons clean/clear room, even if DS didn't. What evil parents :p
Kittinkins re your No.1 - the best news. Wishing Miss K good health for the rest of the year
Tealady so pleased your SiL is on the mend. What a lovely MiL doing Chinese, mine would have called in foreign muck/cat meat!
Broomstick well done the DSs getting on for a whole day, that's an accomplishment my two DDs would never have achieved!
Frith the fried rice and clafoutis sound delicious. I'd forgotten about clafoutis, I have some plums in the freezer which need using so that's today's baking sorted out
ampersand pleased to hear I wasn't the only one on night watch, fortunately only one call for me which after some soothing words and a promise to call back after their sleeping it off solved their problem - for an hour or so anyway :(
CCP big get well hugs to you. The spirea sounds beautiful, hope the sight of it and the taste of curry help to make you feel a little better :)
Chicken good luck to your OH with giving up the weed, hope he makes it and you both come out unscathed ;). I didn't know hens moulted, although why they shouldn't I don't know as all other creatures do. I like the similarity to porcupines :D
RV absolutely agree, the correct English word is pudding. Dessert is a terrible word which should never be used although acceptable across the pond, and sweet is definitely lower class. Whoever heard of Nanny serving nursery dessert or nursery sweet?! re duvet covers, if you have a Ponden near you they have a sale with some very good reductions at the moment

It's a little less bright but dry and quite mild so am going to try half an hour in the garden. Back later with my 5, have a good day whatever you're doing x

    * on the other hand perhaps I won't tell :p (but you might guess). S

RevolvingDoor - Ooh what is the new SJ bolton book? I love her books even if they do tend to scare me just a little (big) bit

I only discovered SJ Bolton late last year and I had to read all her books.:) The short one is called If Snow Hadn't Fallen and it's about a Muslim man killed by a masked gang.

She has a new one coming on in April 2013 too called Like This, For Ever.

RevolvingDoor - Thank you, like you only discovered her last year and have read all her books. Think I may just have to download this one and look out for the new one in April. Will try not to let it scare me too much...

Good afternoon everyone and a Happy New Year!

Back to work/school for me tomorrow, so a few loose ends for me to tie up (as ever!).

So, my five pleasures for a last few days:

    1) Culled 6 more mugs from the cupboard due to more for Christmas. They were taken to the Age UK shop... and we still have 26 mugs remaining (for two of us :o).

    2) Yellow sticker good quality meat (although I normally buy from the butcher) procured and is now in the freezer waiting to be incorporated into our meal plans.

    3) New Year resolutions made, which include saving money in order to pay off our mortgage a little more than we do already. Feeling buoyant about this!

    4) Christmas money paid in to my bank account, plus £20 worth of £2 coins. I save the £2 coins to go towards my road tax at the end of October! ;)

    5) Slowly working through my list of things to do. It's lengthy.

    Bye for now.

    VickyA x

    Afternoon all.

Thank you very much for your get well wishes - I think they're just beginning to work as I'm starting to feel slightly less overwhelmingly lousy (OK, that's not saying much, but it's an improvement over the past few days!).

    1) Porridge for breakfast, with a handful of the mixed dried berries which came in the selection my sister bought me for Christmas - yum!

    2) Spent the afternoon watching silly films - Up, which was OK but not as good as I'd hoped, and Monsters vs Aliens, which was better than I'd expected, so I guess they balance each other out.

    3) Had a mince pie and it tasted vaguely mince pie-ish, which I hope means my sense of taste is coming back.

    4) NSD and NPD, which is even more impressive as I had an email this morning about cheap scented candles. (I don't need more candles, I don't need more candles... ;))

    5) I've still got some bucks fizz left which I must drink before it goes flat.

mhagster - have a safe journey home.

Everyone else - have a good evening. :)
Back after a very long break!

mhagster - sounds like you'll be going home for a rest!

CCP - glad you're starting to get better, keep up the good work!

    1. Second NSD of the year :)

    2. Second NPD of the year :)

    3. Nice morning with my parents and their dog before they wended their way back 'oop north' (well pretty much anywhere is north of us, lol)

    4. Looking forward to dinner - last night's leftovers made into soup or spag bol, not sure which it'll be yet!

    5. Watching Muppets films with DD on the sofa.

    6. Afternoon snooze on the sofa, missed half of a film but mmmm it was worth it! :)

    7. Direct debits have started coming out for the month of January *sigh* but my electricity bill seems to have gone down to £6 a month!! Woohoo :)
