Caterina hope is well with your cousin
ACEY, thinking of your Grandma, wishing her well also
Ollie is aida pronounced Aida as the opera, or Ada as the name, or...? Don't want to look too stupid when I go to buy it!
Jollymummy gave me the idea of a wedding sampler but need practice doing bookmarks first
Ladyhawk I hope Toupe is soon back in purrfect health again, poor furbaby
My five
1. 1st Feb and a nsd, wonder how long it will last this month
2. This one is wicked  - hearing that one of my daughter's dogs chewed her Laura Ashley wellies :rotfl:. Well they were a bit OTT, lol
3. Cleared out the trunk in the sitting room and found lots of puzzles and games that the DGC have grown out of, to car boot. Beginning to think I'll need a truck or trailer to get there and still haven't cleared out the shed yet. It would be easier to have a garage sale but I haven't got a garage
4. A fun evening with friends from my fellowship
5 Getting home just in time to see the Dimbleby Lecture, with Tony Robinson speaking on behalf of Sir Terry Pratchett. A thought provoking, clever and witty speech, wish I'd thought to record it but no doubt it will be repeated shortly
Night night, sleepy tight, hugs all round and stay safe

Morning all
Hope everyone is safe and well today. Here are mine for yesterday.
1. Joining in the February Grocery Challenge , have joined in a few times before but never stuck to it, this time I am determined!
2. Going to the Co-op and buying only what I needed, nothing more, most unusual for me!
3.Ordering some last minute bits and pieces for DD's 16th birthday tomorrow and this time remembering to go through TopCashBack (I usually forget... not very OS eh ?!!)
4. Getting notification from an online store of a nearly £20 refund for an item I ordered DD for Christmas , they were out of stock but I left it on order as I thought I could give it to her for her birthday , then promptly totally forgot about it - so pleased to have £20 more than I thought I had.
5. Having a chat with a good friend on the phone and arranging to meet for lunch this week.
6. DD getting on with some school work OK and without too much nagging , beleive me this is bordering on a miracle !!!!
7. Reading Olliebeak's lovely posts, you put so much time and effort in . x
OK so I know its 7 and not 5 but hope thats OK !
Scotrae - Thats absolutely FAB news about your new job offer -well done you.0 -
Morning everybody -
another drippy day - it's so murky out there that it looks like November.
sparrer - according to Wikipedia, it can be either pronunciation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aida_cloth#Pronunciation - so you takes yer pick and gets yer choice. I usually call it 'ada' but then again I don't have to ask for it at the shop as it's on the counter in different size pieces. Oh dear! at dd's dog - obviously being taken for a walk with owner in Laura Ashley wellies is the equivalent of mum showing you up at the school-gates with a teletubbies lunchbox at the age of 11 - hope she can manage to get a replacement pair more to pooch's liking
. Not sure if it's what you wanted but is this any use to you: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00qmfgn/Richard_Dimbleby_Lecture_Shaking_Hands_with_Death/
aplaceinthesun - good luck with the Grocery Challenge - I'm another who can't stick to it for a whole month - I think those who do deserve a :T. I never spend more than I want though and my freezers are always full - I just don't keep my receipts and double-check them all the time. Good on you for going through TopCashBack for DD's pressies. :j on your £20 refund - there's your lunch out with your friend paid for.
Mine for yesterday:
1. Very early visit from DS2 with dgs3 - his g/f needed a sleep after being on nightshift at the hospital. He arrived bearing gifts - 1lb of sausages for toasted sausage butties :drool. They stayed until lunchtime, by which time dgs3 had emptied his bottle all down his chest and trousers - soaked to the skin.
2. DS2 - my ratings specialist on all things baked - declared the Gingerbread Cake 'delectable' and 'up there' alongside Lemon Drizzle and Carrot :j.
3. Have been invited to DS2's house for a meal with him and his little family - he's a good cook. He wants me to alter some curtains for them, so will need to take my sewing machine with me - talk about 'singing for your supper'.
4. Made a start on cleaning and re-organising my tiny office yesterday afternoon. Had to shunt everything out onto the landing before I could move things around. It's my tiny box-bedroom 6ft x 7ft and contains my desk, two metal filing cabinets (one tall one would have been much better!) and a bookcase as well as my office chair and a large box that holds 19yrs of A4 desk diaries! Can now reach my cd/tape player to listen to some music while I'm working. Need to finish off properly today
.
5. Lovely phone call with my sis - we've had lots of replies to the invitations sent out for mum's 80th birthday party, so can now start thinking positive numbers for catering arrangements. They've also managed to find a holiday that mum would like to go on (7nts coach trip to Cornwall) - we need to pay £87 each for the cost, but it's not till September - so money in by August, which suits me fine as I go away in May and there's plenty of time after that.
That's me done for yesterday - so I need to get off and get some work done - well maybe anotherfirst. Speak again later - love Ollie xxx.

Hi all, here's mine so far:
1. Making black treacle and raisin microwave flapjacks and it stopping the chocolate craving
2. Finding another job online to apply for last night - that's 3 completely different types of jobs and I've no idea what I would prefer to dobut the more I apply for, the more chances I have.
3. Filling out the online forms to switch gas supplier and it seeming easier than I thought. Plus OH just asked if I'd worked it all out and read it all through and took that as good enough for him.
4. Having bought reduced sweet potatoes yesterday having them roasted with salmon and roasted red peppers and red onions - scrummy!
5. Today is D-day - decision day - this time tomorrow I may be redundant and unemployed for the first time in my life (got my first job before I'd finished my gcse's and started the week after I'd finished my exams), and today I feel strangely calm and almost relieved the waiting will be over.
scotrae - yes I used to be a coffee jar sniffer - that first burst of smell when you pop through the foil on a new jar. Only drink filter coffee these days but still do the same when I open a new packet.
Hugs to all those who need them and those who just want themworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Morning all.
A bit of a flying visit from me this morning, as I didn't feel well enough to switch the computer on when I got home last night (my own silly fault for being too polite to say I didn't want the vodka jelly one of my pub quiz team mates bought me on Sunday night - an all-day headache should teach me not to worry so much about being rude next time!).
scotrae - congrats on your new job - that's fantastic news.
newlywed - I've got my fingers crossed for you - hopefully just knowing one way or the other will be a relief.
My five for yesterday:
1) Thoughtlessly making a joke about Portsmouth FC and being very relieved when my Pompey-supporting colleague laughed rather than exploding like she did on Friday. Phew!
2) Popping into Tesco to get some more bread flour and finding a Cornish pasty reduced to 40p - that's today's lunch sorted out. (I know making my own would be more OS still, but my one attempt at making Cornish pasties turned out practically inedible.)
3) Not managing to find any poppy seeds while I was out, which I wanted to use to make clementine and poppy seed muffins. I need to lose a bit of weight so that's probably a good thing - I think...
4) Managing to salvage my naan bread dough for dinner. It came out far too runny but I poured some on to a baking tray (I'm exaggerating, but only just) and stuck it under the grill, and ended up with something recognisable as a piece of naan bread. Phew again!
5) Finally managing to get rid of my headache, just around the time I gave up and went to bed. Oh well, late is better than never, I suppose!
Right, I must go and do some work - I'll be back a bit later to catch up, I hope.Back after a very long break!0 -
Ollie, you are amazing :T! Thank you so much for the link, the lecture is of great interest not only as a retired scheme manager who had to deal with this illness anongst others (be warned, even in retirement you p rick up your ears at anything to do with older people - hard to let go ) but as someone who has a dear friend recently diagnosed with Alzheimers...not PCA but a lot of similarities there.
I wouldn't have thought of looking at iplayer cos I don't do technical.
Thank you again for your thoughtfulness :A
(Incidentally, 'they' say burn-out in our job is 8/10 years but I believe it depends on attitude - I went 15 which explains a lot...how long have you been doing it?)

Hi all
Well done Mr Lahey, please let us know when it is time to vote and give the link!
Here are my pleasures for today:
1 - Got my payslip and the arrears of increment in pay (not a lot, at 1% on part time hours but nice to get it anyway!).
2 - Went to have my first mammogram, very nervous but DD came with me, bless her sweet little heart, to keep me company and support me.
3 - After mammogram, nice cup of tea and time together with DD at cafe.
4 - Got the Permaculture magazine through the letter box, can't wait to read it!
5 - Rice and lentils cooked this morning while I was doing bits and bobs around the house, now all they need is a few chopped veg and that's dinner done.
Good night everybody! xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
What a dreary day today, should have gone out but stayed in because of the rain. I'm having to dig deep for pleasures:-
1. Sitting this morning (very rare for me to sit in a morning) and finishing sewing up cardigan.:j:j:j
2. HM carrot and coriander soup for lunch with a hm roll and some cold turkey from turkey drumstick. All very tasty and cost effective.
3. A doze in the chair.
4. Making a couple of cards from a new fold learned at the craft demo on Saturday.
5. Vegetable frittata and potato wedges for tea, another cheap meal.:j:j:j
