5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Poor DD had a horrible fever and headache last night, so had a mummy day chilling out, she's not looking 100% yet, but hopefully will be back to chirpiness by tomorrow!
1. Due to the above, I got off my backside and took a few kitchen things out of the garage where they've been languishing since we moved.
2. Lots of cuddles and silliness with DD
3. Took back some kitchen fittings that weren't used by the builder, and got a nice refund onto my credit card.
4. Delish Quorn burger for dinner, nomnom
5. Used the dishwasher for the first time since we moved in, hoorah, no more washing up!!!0 -
Evening all.
I think I've got an ampersand-esque 5 for today:
1) The world didn't end. Who would have guessed that when we woke up this morning?
2) Christmas music at work - several people brought in CDs / playlists, so we had classical, jazz and blues alongside the usual carols and Wizzard / Slade / Wham type Christmas songs.
3) Popped into the bank to see if my new debit card had turned up, and it had! :j I now have access to my money again, which is a great relief.
3) Took advantage of the unaccustomedly decent weather to wander down to Gunwharf Quays (an outlet-type shopping centre, for those who've never been to Portsmouth) and bought my Christmas present to my DF, and my GM's present to me (she always gives me cash so I can get something to my tastes - this year a pair of sale-price leather boots, so I won't have to put up with soggy feet any more).
4) A rather un-OS treat of lunch out.The sandwich was disappointingly tasteless - I needed the menu to tell me what I was eating even while I was eating it
- but the almond latte was delish.
5) Popped into the C0-0p to get some cat food, and found there'd been an outbreak of yellow stickies - I got a box of free-range eggs for 40p, a tub of posh custard for £1, and a posh pizza for tonight's dinner for £2. :money:
6) Also picked up a couple of bits to add to the Food Bank collection point - which is by the tills, a fantastic idea :T - something I've been meaning to do for some time, and must now remember to do regularly.
7) Finally managed to get a stubborn knot out of mog's fur, and without losing any fingers in the process.
8) Off to do some prezzie-wrapping now, accompanied by a vaguely-interesting programme from iplayer about Christmas songs - I'm hoping it will get the Wombles Christmas song out of my head. (I may have said before that Wombles are the only creatures for which I would be prepared to accept unlimited hunting - extinction's too good for them! :rotfl:)
Have a good evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening all, mine for today
1. Last day at work :j and thanks to the joy of flexi time I decided to finish early instead of rushing around at lunch time and in the evening
2. phoned whsmif and book I ordered had arrived so went and picked it up ...bargain reduced from 19.99 to 3.99 and thats the last xmas pressie... and there was no queue (was surprised how empty the store was, doesnt bode well for their survival )
3. popped into spec savers as the plastic nose bits (do they have a name ??) on my glasses had split. They put new ones on for free ! and cleaned the lenses so I could actually see where I was going when I left
4. popped into tesco and got last few bits of salad & fresh cream... queues were down the aisles and took 30 minutes to reach the till ! but got chatting to an elderly gent in suit, tie and hat who reminded me of my dear departed grandad who never left home without a suit, hat and bow tie.
5. called off at KFC on way home and got free meal. (Last time we used their drive-through half the meal was missing when we got home so I phoned and complained and the manager gave me a code for a free meal on our next visit.)
6. trifle for pudding. nom nom

VJ'S MUM - IF I POST RIEN D'AUTRE CE SOIR...shock! horror!...'Daily Mail'?
Please say it isn't true!..well, in their case, it rarely is.
May well post later if I recover sufficiently.
All joking aside dundeedoll, your scholarly response to the Matt Crawford/Pickwick Papers question is now overdue. I cannot keep referring to the Archers Anarchists.

Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Bigger son's school bus didn't appear! They thought it was the last day of term yesterday. MrN phoned to sort it out and it was so late, that when it arrived (8.55 rather than 8.05) only 3 of MrN's and bigger son caught it! Smaller son slept through the whole thing and woke up at 9am. :-)
3) Bacon sandwich, TV and football with smaller son.
4) Bigger son back from school happy. They went to their father's at 1.30 and won't be back until 3pm on Christmas Day. :-(
5) Have washed uniforms and PE kits, tidied house etc.
6) No sons so wrapped all presents and stocking fillers. Took 3.5 hours!
7) Went swimming with brother and he came here for tea and to watch TV for a bit. He's not long gone.
8) Lots of texts from smaller son.0 -
Well I'm pleased that the world has hung on for a bit longer.
Travel safely mhagster and family.
ampersand, I enjoyed the Sister Wendy DID too.
Dundee Doll, I have joined the crowd who are hoping that you are OK and that things are working out for you.
Five pleasures for Friday:
1. NSD.
2. The DSs put up the (artificial) tree and decorated it and it's now all lit up beside my desk. Very pretty too. We always put it up on Solstice night. I think we may need to look for a replacement tree in the sales though. This one has lasted about ten years, or maybe more, and two of the branches fell off when DS2 opened them. Metal fatigue.
3. Made some very tasty stir fry veg for supper.
4. Sunshine.
5. Watched the final episode of Last Tango in Halifax on iplayer. Am glad there's another series planned. It's very gentle viewing. Wish there was more like it.
Sweet dreams and a merry Yuletide to all.

Dundee Doll.
We need you back and I promise I will not gloat about the mariners.0 -
BoP it's okay, I'm big enough to overlook your background
. With you 100% on your drink/drive campaign. I used to wish I'd be stopped, hit bollards, stationary cars, kerbs, lampposts...you name it. With the exception of the boot every panel on my car has been replaced. Those things could have been people, young, old, it doesn't matter, it would have caused agony and heartbreak. I've no objection ever to anyone drinking and enjoying themselves but to get in a car afterwards is like taking a gun and rampaging through the streets. Oops, off my soap box!
Dundee Doll please just let us know you're okay, send someone a pm,anything, we love you and are concerned not to hear from you
Skint - nose pads
CCP I think the food bank id a great idea. Our Mr M has a cat food collection point which is for a little local charity, it's almost always full.
Chicken I only need half a box too, but worry about leaving it when it's been opened. Seems you do it though so as long as it's not mixed I presume it doesn't explode!
Idiot media for worrying people. DGD2 phoned her mum today to say the world was due to end in fifteen minutes and to tell her she loved her. They were having a 'hugfest' in her class. I wonder how many millions of people took it seriously? (But bet they're happy bunnies now)
1. Visited DD with a bag of goodies from the cupboard, plus old towels for the dogs for which she was very grateful
2. Called into Mr S, drove round for 5 mins looking for a parking space, picked up a box of DSiL's favourite chocolate brazils as an extra pressie, and a carton of milk. Then spend 25 mins waiting to get through the checkout. People have more money than sense, or they need to subscribe to MSE!
3. Called into Mr M in the village, parked by the door, went straight in, picked up the lottery tickets to put in the cards, and was out again in three minutes.
4. A friend came for a cuppa this afternoon, she was surprised I'd put the deckies up as there's just me, but when she left she was going to go and make her own house look a little more festive
5. DGD1's 21st birthday today! Will see her on Sunday at DD's pub where they're having a children's Christmas party. Should be fun! I'll leave by 4pm though as it's the adults one after that and the whole pub football team will be there. Say no more!
Sleep tight0 -
I know, I do go about like a fireman who throws petrol into the hearth. But some bits need a shock to get across. I always intend to scrape the knuckle, but not offend. Sometimes we are crushed by the media into accepting the victim, and when the truth comes forth, think bu99er me. If I had a shoot to kill policy, how many innocents would be harmed? When you understand that in a real fight, you get the odds in yor favour, even if a colleagues best expression is if they cannot get the tank in reverse, they certainly can f in run.
How come some media hyped yesterday as some freak event called mad Friday? In their gutter, why do they treat us like that.
Oh deer, I as off a gin.
Rite, bangers rtc on. Then last rugby this year. Oh, and as it is in Taunton, I will see the sheep going to Cribbs Wasteaway?
Oh and pleasure, day ten of Xmas n shave, quite prickly now0 -
Something Radio 4-y thing filtered through just now and Good Grief - 6 Bells!
So late already! On my calendrier français, c'est le premier jour d'hiver.
No. 1 tea's waiting, so straight on and maybe it won't need zapping - fat chance si je me connais.
What sunshine was that, broomstick? I've just heard discussion with a weatherman over last night's deluge hotspots nationally. He said it pretty much hasn't stopped raining since Spring in meteorological terms[and the others would be?...] ccp - with your siggie, please may I add 'br-olly' to that list?
1. The Lady & swanked into Bank in her pukeko wellies - AND WAS WEARING HER PUKEKO SOCKS FROM LAST EN ZED DAY TRIP, 4 YEARS BACK. Atop, wore swanni in gorgeous rainbow coloured merino wool chequered squares. It came from nz box 1 too - another Forgotten happy find and is L, perfect for when hair's up. Good - S was on. Banking done and Le Match talk refreshed. He'd actually been nearing Lakeside[brave in itself] with his daughter as 6-0 struck. While she shopped, he scanned shops for tele's with it on, then watched in disbelief as match found its final shape. Daughter was amazed that her apologies to Dad for 'took so long' etc.etc.were unnecessary. Rolled a couple of h/m jars into hatch which he keenly checked out while counting my deposit. I said he had a choice, but Lime Marmalade and Scotch Bonnet rocket Fuel are spot on, apparently. Then 'No, Bill, they're mine' as Bill came up and said 'Ooh, they look good'.
2. To our Charity and more lovely Soil Assoc./ Waitrose produce was in - leeks, celery, oranges, root veg., taties, mincemeat pies, meant I was able to buy extra for L en route back. Also found old case for fish-eaters and a few other bits. There are tensions there these days[people will make silly politickies in any organisation, no matter how small, forget their whole purpose in being there]and I could see palpable unhappiness in a someone I've known for some time, so took her outside[used her ciggie excuse and I didn't do a single 'tsk tsk' tease] Said person has never been my choice, but it was good to ease things with and for her.
3. People noticing my Merry Christmas-spelt-out-in-wooden-blocks necklace from Church Fête and liking it a lot.
4. My Waitrose capuccino, read of Murdoch's organ, recognition of another lady being same and she was the one to comment as she returned said paper, both of us saying it was a way of reading papers we never buy. She, too, is a once weekly, Sat. Grauniad person. Pleasant crossing of paths and we had same reduced Duchy Organic mushrooms, which - with the multiple discount offer kicking in, made them 7p per pack! I foisted mse upon her:-)
5. Blimey - Archers were on as I offloaded e'th chez L en route back. Turns out this e'th meant much x'd off their list for today and v.well-timed. She is trying to find settlement in mind with med. news, but not easy. The When? is next - my steadfast friend.
6. Back here - no piece of paper in mail and wondering what strings to pull if poss. re:crimbo eve. NZ post of my gummies so speedy across half the globe, local envelopes so slow=Royal Mail at Christmas.
7. Evening work plans completely scuppered upon reading scrambled em from France. On 'phone at once, kept cutting off/out. Eventually, on call 7, stayed listening, talking and wishing I could be there right now as requested. Sent urgent em as we spoke, told person to read it and read it, print it out and keep it alongside. What to do? But glad to have had long communication. Crikey, after midnight - no wonder at today's late start. Emotional work is as draining as physical Spits stuff.
8. Smiling at myself as tea deffo DOES need zapping now. Where does that path paved with good intentions lead? Should continue mild-plus for me then :-) I will always be of the Drop Everything School...sod the other. We are talking about people in need - not necessarily your need, or my need, but their perception of need, which so often amounts to no more than a listening ear, 'only connect', inner quiet, a hug, another presence in the room, which=TIME.
9. Good Life neighbour handed me another postie package - my gifts to me are homing in. Now have Grayson and Edmund for fine company.
mhags - don't forget your super-apt Saturday scone.
Have a grand Saturday everyone.
dd-I'm keeping this one small and surreptitious. We're still here, not going anywhere, so you know where to find us - okeydokey?CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:
