5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Evening all.
BoP - sorry your rugby was cancelled. It was rather sad looking at the sports pages on the BBC today - every other match was labelled "postponed - waterlogged pitch".
amapersand / VJsmum - one I forgot to post yesterday re the Daily Mail - a colleague at work reads it, as he says the aggravation it causes him each morning wakes him up much more much more effectively than a cup of coffee! :rotfl:
1) Got my hair cut so I look much less straggly, and bonded with my hairdresser over a shared dislike of the Mariah Carey Christmas album that someone had put on: with apologies to any of her fans, but why can't she just sing rather than wailing like an injured bagpipe?
2) Managed to walk down to the shops, round the shops, and back to my car during a gap in the rain.
3) Picked up the last few bits for Christmas, plus a special offer pack of smoked salmon for me - it will all be gone by the time I go away on Christmas Eve, I suspect.
4) SO smoked salmon and RTC egg sarnies for lunch.
5) Wrapped the prezzies while watching the showjumping from Olympia, made all the better by the knowledge that I'll be there in person tomorrow. :j
6) Had another go at a bottle of wine I opened last night and abandoned in disgust after a couple of sips, and decided it was OK for cooking, so it's been divided up and frozen rather than poured down the sink. :money: I hope the company I bought it from takes notice of all the complaints and offers refunds, though, as it cost rather more than I would usually choose to spend on something to be thrown into a casserole.
7) Talking of casseroles - beef and ale stew with horseradish dumplings and roast root veggies for dinner.
Have a nice evening, everyone, and stay dry and safe, please.Back after a very long break!0 -
Stay dry and safe (especially everyone who is driving places over the next few days). I am green with envy at all of those of you (and you know who you are - Skint, Chicken etc) who are galavanting around in bikinis because it's so toasty warm.
Our bit of the country has been horrible, cold, rainy, dank and grey all day.
My pleasures then!
1. Extra pre-Xmas veg box top-up arrived with more clementines and these had leaves on. I love clementines with leaves on. They remind me of summer.
2. Like you, CCP, I got my hair cut today and also look less straggly although it is extraordinary how much greyer my hair has become. It sort of matches the sky.
3. A****n managed to send me a package with a little matchbox-sized box of staples (of a size that was hard to obtain in the shops round here). The purchase only cost me about a quid and it was sent free of delivery charge. They must have made a loss because the package was fatter than a standard letter and used tracked post  I don't suppose any staples have ever been more cared for. Aaah
4. Enjoying watching QI on iplayer just now.
5. The river is staying on the right side of trouble atm.
Need to go and nick my hot water bottle off DS2then I'm going to wrap the little presents for the tree. I started doing this as our alternative to stockings when the DSs were very small and we never did the Santa thing. We don't seem to have stopped the tradition. I cover the tree in tiny presents on Christmas night and it looks stunning. Problem is that, given the tree's newly discovered propensity to shed branches due to age and metal fatigue, I'm worried that if I attach a load of prezzies to it this year we will wake on Christmas morning to a vertical 5' high stick with its base surrounded by a load of decorated artificial twigs.
Sweet dreams

1. Lovely glass of rose whilst babysitting last night
2. DD and her chums (my friends' children) had a brilliant time playing, watching films, running around and causing mayhem this morning - not good for my friends with their hangovers, but ok for me
3. Did some good deeds for my chums today.
4. Received a DVD from L*vefilm which looks good!
5. DD and I had a massive pizza takeaway - naughty, but cheaper than going out for dinner I guess.....whilst watching Strictly
6. Strictly........wow! We're Team Louis in this house although we do love Tracey Beaker as well
7. A friend turned up unexpectedly with her children and loves my new kitchen - and we had a good natter and put the world to rights
8. Another chum has told me that she's coming over tomorrow, yay!0 -
Feel tired and cross this evening but here are my pleasures for today:
1) Huge sleep, woke up at 9.45!
2) Texts from smaller son. :-)
3) House fairly tidy; must do bathroom in a minute.
4) Had a cup of tea with my sister this afternoon.
5) Went swimming with my brother. Did 700 metres today.
6) Watching Strictly, drinking sloe gin and eating shortbread!
7) Been invited to my school friend's parents for lunch tomorrow and to my sister's for lunch on Christmas Eve!
8) Friends came round earlier (with the shortbread). This is why I'm feeling a bit out of sorts.... seems the ex husband has been arrested again. (Released again - you have to be arrested to be questioned - these are the sort of legal facts you learn if you have an ex like mine!) This time it is for stealing...0 -
Hello all. Life's rather up and down at the mo so sorry for not posting. Love to all.5 for today to get me back in the swing of looking on thr bright side of life (loved eric idle's human cannonball at the olympics)
1) slept in. Saturday bliss. Beginning of 2 weeks off even more bliss
2) went to edinburgh to pick up DD1 goodness it was wet!
3) found parking space really close to her flat. And it's free on saturdays
4) called in on her godfather on the way back. He's such a sweetheart.
5) now all 3 children are safely home, wrapping pressies and decorating the tree. I've still got 1/2 bottle left of surplus mulled wine i was given after helping out at a carol service. Nom nom.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Great to see your post (((DD))), sorry things have been a bit wonky for you but pleased you have all the DC with you for the holidays. Do pop in when you can just to let us know how you are
BoP, yeah, some would say it's good to see less of me! Bad luck on the cancellation, perhaps you should take up water polo - purely as a spectator sport of course...
mineallmine a day off is a good thing, I know cos I have a lot of them! Gives you time to reflect - very briefly - on what you could be doing if you felt like it
1. Postie brough DGD2's birthday present, not til early Jan but saw it at 50% off on @m@zon and couldn't resist. Hope she likes it!
2. Another postie brought a shredder I ordered from the bay of eee. Tried it but it has more decibels than a washing machine on spin and was grinding and spluttering then spat the sheet of paper back out . Contacted the company who sent it 'post free' but buyer has to pay for returns. Will challenge this under the circ's. The pleasure is my new reading specs allowing me to read the conditions all the way through and learn my rights
3. An outstanding repair which was supposed to be completed by 21st hasn't been so the HA owes me £25
4. Made egg and chips for lunch using a sweet potato which has been lurking for a while. Softened in mw, coated in oil and lots of s & p then oven baked on a high temp, I think they were nicer than ordinary tatoes
5. Strictly. Louis :T
Sweet dreams0 -
Not long in and I've been smiling and chuckling my way through the catchee-uppee posts.
Let's all say Best Of All to reading dd - thankyou for writing. It can be hard to resume after hitting one of Life's speed bumps, but you have done so and we are glad. Little steps, little steps.
Frith - what does this news throw up vis à vis access visits and the 'fit and proper person' aspect? I felt shock to read it: you have been faced with it before, we remember.
sparrer - no 'sun'[or whatever broomstick called it]anywhere I went today.
skint - 'We had sun here on south coast yesterday too' - such boasting! and rightly challenged by broomstick:-)
vjm - JUST AS WELL! How can you be an anarchist reading such feeelthy language.
rev.door has the right idea and a nice gloat to go with it, topped off by cat litter tray excitement. Loved that!
Well, Garrison's on again as I type. Norah Jones just finished singing - lovely stuff, what a voice. Bop - was out so couldn't hear 2020MS[no 5live extra on car radio. used to be possible to have R4fm for these commentaries if not on lw, but not now]
Saw many a total mud custard match at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, in my early childhood. Choochoo train or unit to town, down through the Ngauranga Gorge, then trolley bus to cable car up hill, Windy Wellington earning its soubriquet by sending place kicks backwards... Winston McCarthy's voice in internationals on steam wireless would rise so high during moments of excitement that it would then, infuriatingly cut out. Interpreting descending timbre as crucial moments passed made listeners adept at working out what had [or had not]happened. Ah, the era of DB Clarke[The Great Don, our one, not that Bradman bloke who needed a stick to play with across the Tasman, although he WAS exOH2's godfather, but that's another story...]
mineallmine - I always think of you at this time of year, remembering the Great Pashmina Haul.
ccp- I DO like that. Workmate has it right.
...and dd - isn't that parking space buzz SUCH a good'un!
Many more moments in a galloping week and today. Random:
1. Now hearing stunning part-singing[New York City Chamber Chorus] on Garrison's prog. It is beautiful bop - please make time to catch up with it tomorrow.
2. SCD hasn't taken me this year, but saw result on running news and am v. pleased. Liked him from the moment he carried the Olympic flame this way and spoke to a local paper. I will watch it on putah at some point.
3. Perfect timing for late night find@Mr T, specifically JusRol Organic butter puff pastry, down from £3.19 to 22p!!! - called Charity and within the hour [i.e. 23h]had GREEDY LOTS[critics of those who are seen doing this might ask why] back there for use later today with residents making sausage rolls and mincemeat puffs. Only when dropping it all off did I learn this had been planned last week. I end as I began - perfect timing.
4. Foul rainy driving afternoon and several touchdowns culminated in a much-needed resolution of a situation that has needlessly festered for over 2 years, Charity-related. Have been working on it and now it's fixed.
5. Was ready for the My Waitrose capuccino. Made friends with a splendid little chap while Mummy fluffed and faffed in full crimbo panic. She was relieved, thought me harmless, sans doute, whereas I will feed the natural little rebellions in all children, given half a chance[while still occasioning nice manners, interesting talk and stories, of course].
6. ...and we're just starting into 'Well, it's been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon....'
This is bliss, in addition to being nearly 2am. Do I care?
Bonne nuit, beautiful listening and Good Travelling Companions, dd. We're all along for the ride.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Frith - half a mile in the pool well done . Not sure what to say about the "tea leaf "though .
5 for yesterday
1. Manic Jack Russell- Mum's third, second hand dog .
2. Dog ran up and down from 1pm -7pm non stop with a ball. Loads of strangers for her to deal with in a strange house - when they all left , she eventually sat down and fell asleep against my bum !Then tried to follow me home .
3. Seeing my folks - my DSis . has epilepsy , arthritis and takes so much medication its hard to understand what she is saying. She also jumps from subject to subject - I was trying to help her fill out a form that she wanted some help with- I gave up in the end.Left post it notes on it for her instead, so sort of did it for her.
4. Seeing Mum happy with her new pet.
5. Silence of the Lambs love it .
have a good day all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0
