Thanks for all your lovely posts.
I won't take offence at BoP's comments ,as I don't think I've screwed up anyone's life (in adult education), but I know I've enabled people to go further in their lives.
1. Was able to get some shopping in and stayed dry, thanks to DS and the car. We now have a turkey in the freezer, used various coupons and vouchers to bring a £58 bill down to £23.
2. Saw one of my former childminded children (from 23 years ago) on the local news. He was sending greetings to his GF and DS from Afghanistan, where he is currently serving. His Mum left the area some years ago, so we had lost touch. Stay safe Dale, I am very proud of you.
3. Incredible luck this evening. DS asked for Jamie Oliver's 15 minute meals book for Christmas. A lot of the meals involve a food processor -son had looked at J.O's online, £150. at the moment. Guess what Amazon offered me to review on Amazon Vine? The very model.
DS is having a rough time at the moment, I hope that this will help to lift him. Hopefully it will arrive Saturday or Christmas Eve.
All the items on Vine are offered to a number of reviewers, and it's first come, first served. You have to be really quick for the good stuff.
I don't have super-fast broadband and the netbook is temperamental, so I sometimes miss out. On the Vine forum, some reviewers had said that they had decided not to take the food processor they were offered as they already had one. I am very, very grateful to them and posted my thanks.
4. Got DGS, DD and friend sorted for Christmas, thanks to Primarni. I have lost 2 1/2 stones since the last time I ventured forth shopping in the nearest large town (some 15 weeks ago) and my goodness, I felt the difference. It took me literally half the time to walk home - this supported by trolley and stick.
5. Bro rang me to tell me that Christmas present had arrived. I was worried about this one.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Just before we fly!
1.worky work...hurrah for last day before 3 whole weeks off :0)
Both girls came in with me and were a help.....when they weren't squabbling!
2. Nice gifts from my colleagues!
3. Very nice cheque from my big boss ! Will pay that in when I get home ( oz home that is)
4. Will come back to a tidy house.
5. Watched a beautiful sunset as we ate our dinner at airport.
6. Son got his first pay packet ever today....apparently his smile was HUGE!
7. Lots of good wishes and hugs from customers, if / when I leave I wil miss them but look forward to meeting new people.
8. Oooooooh nearly time to board the double decker plane!0 -
Sparrer winter woollies at the top of the cases just to pull out......brrrrr! Has been boiling here today....we are so in for a shock!!0

BoP it can only be chips with cheese grated on top! Thanks to DS for introducing this delicacy into my life
. Gravy makes them soggy and take-away curry sauce tastes like stew with curry powder. Ewwwww!
No No No, cheese is a sutthern thing. Up norf where BoP comes from, cheese is meant for sarnies, especially cheese and marmite.mcculloch29 wrote: »I won't take offence at BoP's comments ,as I don't think I've screwed up anyone's life (in adult education), but I know I've enabled people to go further in their lives.
Sorry, does not mean to be gruntingly, but it is the officious dooms that I dislike, box tickers and rrr lickers. Those who think all shall fit and ... In the end, it is good to see that spotty yuff, who knew better, would not listen etc, have fun at club etc. Then some years later, same is working in a shop, bar or other. You think why you do, did this voluntary work, only for ... Me, it is the smile you get when they appreciate you afterwrads for the 10 minutes you listened, or I cannot remember, was it longer than that. My thought is always, By, has you grown. If you do give them ten minutes, you make their world. Besides it is cheaper than a night of wenches and flagons of ale.
On a side, to those who shall venture out this eve. When I used to drink the session beers, it was about 2.8%. And if you got plastered we did not ask you back. Today it is about getting smashed, why? Ok, but if you are, Make sure you know who your friends are and you are in a state to get home. In our town I see one did not make it back after leaving at 3.00 am. To me another OLAF moment, (Out lived another ), to himself, a fool, to his mother, a loss, but alas he is not a martyr! One should not cry at the loss, but thinks of the stupidity of the friends, if they can be called that, for allowing this to happen.
Was only in town Monday, and in the local drinking warehouse at 8:30, two were left slumped by their mates at the table. An unintended consequence of all day licencing.
Oh dear, had another runt on again.
Five things I have given up this year.
5 Marmite. As I suffered a bump or two, I have given up on this sauce of B12 as it did me no good.
4 BBC TV, complete. All their shows melded into one continium of tripe. Only thing now left is TMS
3 Parking at the door of work, there is never a space and the fights are fantastic. Park at the rear carpark and walk. Takes 5 minutes each way, but that is a quick fire 1 hour extra walk a week, at the free gym.
2 Football.
1 Shaving, when off work or on holiday. Makes the skin recover and the muff rug makes Lady Black all girly.
And if you do go out, make sure you do know who you are with, where the exits are and when it is time for you to go home. And should your mate get in a state, do not leave them, stop your drinking and tale them home.
Saw one that was partial to a bottle in Painswick. He had gone out with his so called friends, who left him !!!!ed on the streets. Fortunately I knew him enough to get him safe. He insisted on going to Tesco, so I 'partook' in his fantasy. He wanted more wine, but I got the bottle first. Got him some water and bits, when at checkout, I managed to rid him of the wine with a slight of hand and help of the staff. He was too gone to notice. Never missed the wine that night, though he was oblivious the next day. You do it once, and again once only. Shame that he continues to do the same, though his friends are diminishing faster than his esteem.0 -
Great essay mark, ccp and am/was with you re: the bliss of change[STRIKE]:cold and wet and squelching, whilst sweating like cart-horse via heavy work[/STRIKE],[STRIKE]tran[/STRIKE]per-spiring comme Une Lady. Will shortly ablute.
Frith - can you bring yourself to write another letter re: parking tkt? I would.
....but interruption started here:
1.PUKEKO GUMMIES HAVE ARRIVED, so fast from EnZed! Heard gentle tap on window and dear neighbour took them in for me hier. They're lovely! They fit to perfection! They're built on a steel shank, too, so should last well, retain shape. I'm ready to go out- tartan nightie, hair still high in yesterday's chignon, with rich claret streak on high vis. and pukeko gummies - oh, was Glam ever such? [Do Not Read The Small Print:high applies not only to hair...get in that bathroom now! Need to Chanel up badly.] I was in moisture porcine after last night's late finish loading, nearly 10pm and d.v./d.b. - someone pulled out leaving a perfectly placed parking space. All around this part of London is chokka atm, so this was incredible[lit and fig] luck. Even hitting A14 and M11 v. early hier, 3am-ish, was busiest I've ever seen. Nightmarish road conditions, with heavy rain all the way and screaming hgv's, passing me @80+, no question, sucking air out in passing and throwing up blinding curtains of oily spray. I, who love being on road, behind wheel, felt some trepidation. That moment, of feeling 'back on my patch' as I pass the Olympic complex, then turn right for Bow and Mile End, feels so good. I love this, adding it to the 'bien dans ma peau' memory bank.
2. She also brought the RSPB things - another ALREADY!
3. Came awake-ish enough to hear Sister Wendy on DID, which was wonderful. My listen-agains already trail beyond infinity. Au lit a bit before 0200h, closing a real working day. Week off now - yippee!
4. Spits was grand fun and great atmosphere yesterday. Early first sale and steady through day, which was reassuring. 2 folk nearby sold nothing all day - which I always hold in abeyance mindset, just in case. No earth-shaker 3£igs, but many happy and interesting encounters with lovely people. I so enjoy this. The thought of popping into Bank later is still unreal and true pleasure for this Ancient Crone, after Other. I have survived. I am surviving.
5. Opening 1st NZ box, v. soggy, was full of surprises. I'm wearing my sheepy mules atm, sold 2 folding Imperial measure rulers in v.v. decent boxwood yesterday[4 remaining, need a modest clean-up; must never over-do, over-restore, over-clean] and 2 old patterns...my shipping costs have already covered themselves. This is fantastic to realise. Also unpacked&wore red cashmere jumper which I remembered finding for NZ50c - might call it my lucky Spits vestment now.
6. Hope S is in Bank today. He Rurger Burger gent, so when I went in on Wed. for Spits/petrol/Brick Lane parking £s, he beamed broadly, barely able to contain gleeful comments clambering over each other to be first out. 'Well now...I'm not going to gloat. That would be unkind'...even higher beam switched on...'...oh, did you SEE the Match?...Oh, terribly sorry, you lost didn't you? I did think your chap Richie McCaw was very gracious in DEFEAT...not a lot of practice, after all, but good...considering'...could not keep face straight at all. We do enjoy this stuff, then had realistic chat and he said he was proud to see how I was doing. I said I never ceased to thank the day this small town Bank accepted a me in despair, with nothing, on nothing and I continue to be grateful, despite Deep Cynic human status AND Martin's wisdom: 'Banks are businesses/ Be a tart.' Well, no reason to yet. They make nothing from me and I am lucky in mine. I can speak for this only and that's that.
7. May these count as reverbe's? - 10p sitting in lip of w/m as I opened it on rtn this a.m.? V.clean lucre, as opposed to TWELVE filthy, sticky pounds in change in foot of old leather bag, where worn double lining had given way. Hadn't realised at all that there were 2 layers of fabric. It joins Banking today.
8. Preserve offerings were much welcomed yesterday - allowed peeps to choose as wished from basket.
9. Thinking of kavics safely on her flight with new daughter yesterday afternoon. Don't know if any of you DID read her Thread.
Loads more, but that's 5-enough for now.
Safe journey mhags. As you waved to me en route to NZ in Feb, there's all of us waving to you as you plane in to touchdown. Hope you brought your pukeko gummies equivalent[doubt that Oz has these superior clogs, natch. Are you yet deeply entrenched in cross-Tazzy rivalry?]
Special Call out for dundeedoll - please tell us to sod off[or me anyway. Don't blame the others] so we know you're around, ok-ish, in flux, moving on....anything in the gamut will do. In the meantime, collective arms around you, vessels of choice filled and raised. Strength and a loving Christmas to you and your supportive family.
Lovely to see mimeallmine posting again.
McCulloch - a truly wonderful post throughout. Feel real joy for you in all your pleasures.

I did get a bit upset about the Police comment but didn't say so at the time - my cousin ,a Met. Inspector was killed in earlier this year on his motorbike coming home after his shift finished ....Tragic, but would still be tragic even if he hadn't been a Policeman iyswim? . :A
VJsmum- I must confess that I had forgotten that the world was going to end today :rotfl:That's lucky !
