Newlywed - hope the axe doesn't fall, but if it does that you get gardening leave. And... toffee merigngue bars sound divine... what's the recipe???

Sorry how terribly lapse of me to not post a typical OS style recipe linky when mentioning food ;) Here it is http://www.cakes-cookies.com/recipes/biscuits-cookies/toffee-meringue-bars.php :D

And why do they call it gardening leave when I'd be baking and crafting - why isn't it baking leave - or laying in bed leave??? :D

    Anyway....
    1. Me and OH staying very together and fairly calm - no stressy money arguments so far.

    2. Scoffing banana and chocolate bread (think I've eaten to much though :o)

    3. Having a cooking day yesterday and had already prepared today's lunch and dinner so a nice easier day for me today.

    4. Our gas isn't being used up as quick as it has been - going to get OH to swap suppliers shortly... in fact, where is he? ;)

    5. Debating doing a 3.5 mile walk to work tomorrow - good exercise, good for clearing the worries and saves petrol - a month ago I couldn't have even considered it as I'd have collapsed! ;)

    6. OH cleaning all the bathroom - I do appreciate having a cleaning hubby :)

Hugs to all who need them as well as those who just want them :D

hugs to (((scotrae))), thinking of you and so pleased you feel comfortable enough to share your feelings with us :A
Ooh Reverbe you lucky thing...I haven't had Madeleines for years. Can't justify making them for just me but they'll be fun to make next time any of the DGC come. Thank you for giving me the idea :T
I'm a great Corrs fan too Hester, especially in the car - full decibels and windows open so everyone can share ;)

    My five...

    1. Feeling very bored lately, need get of my b*m and DO something...then I read about Ollies cross stitch book mark and thought - That's It! I used to love cross stitch and haven't done any for years. It won't actually get me off my b*m but will give me something to keep me occupied and make some Chrissie pressies at the same time. Now, where is there a sewing shop....?

    2. Totted up my totals for the month, something I've not done seriously before, and have had 21 nsd's, only eaten meat on 6 days, used the car on 7 days making sure I do all my messages at once if I can, and joined some other forums devoted to serious money saving. It obviously works :D

    3. An interesting but delish lunch today, lo pasta, onion, mushrooms, garlic, 2 squishy tomatoes, a chuck of basil a few chopped olives which were part of a Christmas pressie and the last of some Stilton melted on top.It still feels strange after all these years not to do a roast on Sunday but no point just for me and this really was tasty. And it cleared out some odds and sods :)

    4. DD's second pup (in a litter of 2 lol) has just gone to her new family. She says it's very quiet in her home now, but I doubt it will last as she has another girl (wouldn't let me write the word b***h) of 7 months. Give her a year or so and I'll bet there will be another litter along ;)

    5. No snow. It's north and south of here but avoided us this time. Perhaps Big G listened to my plea after all :o

Time for my wee siesta, enjoy the rest of the day everyone

Only really got one OS pleasure to report but I think it's a biggie. The other week I bought, via the Apple online store, 4 iPod Nano's as presents for family and got their names engraved on. Nectar had a triple points offer so I went via the Nectar site (huge amount of points ) and then paid with my John Lewis credit card so lots more points there! Of course I paid it all off straight away but am now waiting for the points to roll in.

    Afternoon all,

Posting early for a change... My poor furbabe, Toupe is distinctly under the weather today and I can't work out why. He didn't eat much brekkie and then puked it all up. And he has been very lethagric today. But he is drinking water which is good. I'll see how he is in the morning and maybe take him to the vet tomorrow evening.

Scotrae - well done on admitting to your DH about the depression. I hope that you find a way out of it soon.

    1) Watching Andy Murray in the Australian Open final. Federer was just awesome, and Murray did well just to not be completely thrashed.

    2) Taking a large M&S bag of clothes, books and bits and bobs to the Charity shop. I also took two pairs of my old glasses to the optitions to be sent to someone who really need them.

    3) Returning a garlic press to Wilkos - I don't know why I bought it... I never even buy garlic!

    4) Sorting out my bathroom cupboard - threw away a few packs of medication that was years out of date and that I have no use for any more. Also threw out of couple of self tanning creams that were beyond use. I am come to terms with being pale.

    5) Popped into Mr S - and bought 4 different fish from the whoopsied counter. They are now prepped for fish pie which I'll make later in the week. I paid for everything with my nectar points so it was a complete bargain.

    6) Got a cottage pie in the fridge for supper tonight - all prepped last night.

    7) hot bath and early night since I have an early doctors appointment tomorrow (7.15am!!)

    Have a lovely evening everyone.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Evening all!

scotrae - I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so down at the moment. I hope you feel really better really soon. (That's a dreadful bit of English, but I hope you know what I mean.)

Ladyhawk - I hope your Toupe (good name, btw!) feels better soon. It's miserable when they're ill and you don't know why, isn't it?

    My five for today:

    1) Having a very long lie-in this morning. I'm still struggling to shake off the effects of the flu I had at the start of the month - I'm feeling much more tired than usual, so the more sleep the better!

    2) Smoked salmon and avocado sandwiches for lucnh. The bread was HM, the smoked salmon was half-price, and the avocado was a free replacement for a badly squashed one in my last veg box. There's enough left for me to have the same again for my packed lunch tomorrow, too.

    3) Mooching up to the pub to watch the football. Portsmouth's matches aren't often on television so it's a bit of a treat to watch them away from home (we won't mention the result, though, if you don't mind :(:o).

    4) Playing ball with my cat - he's 18 but you'd never believe it from the way he's been haring around. It must be the effects of the bird food I caught him eating earlier (and why a cat would want to eat bird food I really don't know!)

    5) Risotto for dinner. I might add the chorizo I didn't have yesterday to make it extra yum.

    6) Back to the pub this evening for the weekly pub quiz, which is always a good laugh.

    Have a good evening, everyone.
Back after a very long break!
  • Hi everyone

    1. 2 lovely sunny days.
    2. 2 days NSD days out, went to a local museum and nature trail yesterday and to look at a castle today :)
    3. DH has made a slow cooker full of soup with left over veg from last week. I've made a couple of fruity puddings with what was left in fruit bowl.
    4. Delivery from Mr T , the driver is so nice.
    5. Visited inlaws today who are just lovely and gave me my birthday money. My MIL has knitted DS a fishermans jumper, he looks adorable in it !!
    6. Came well under budget for this months grocery challenge.
    7. Really enjoyed my weekend and feel a lot more positive about everything. I was on a major downer just before my 40th, but feel optimistic now. I really love my boys :)

I have had a few o/s pleasures today:

cleaned both bedrooms, bathroom and upstairs landing & got a huge sense of satisfaction of seeing them all clean and tidy for once!
sat with ds and oh to watch aladdin and have cuddles
started making a smile jar for oh's valentines present
had a neck and back massage from oh for 'just being me'
this is going to sound awful now- the highlight of the day was watching oh have a bath with his broken leg hanging out and he was all squashed to the side- its his right leg so he has to sit at the tap end hehe
    2011- new year, new start.

    Evening all

    Right mine for today:

1 Getting my lie in - didnt finish my keyring sock monkey till 1.30am  so needed the extra sleep - those things are addictive!!

2 Taking kids for a walk. I wasnt planning on going out as it looked slippery but I let kids have their party bags from yesterday after breakfast and I dont know what sweets they had but all 3 went hyper and ds1 was shaking (he hasnt done that since my sister gave him coco pops!!) so we went for a walk to burn off their energy.

3 All 3 kids went to bed this afternoon for a nap as the walk tired them out so got a few hours peace to do ironing and play on internet for a bit (looking for recipes - honest!!!;))

4 Dd ate all her tea including the cabbage and sprouts :T. There were no screaming tantrums and she smiled when she was eating it  and it was a really nice, non stressful tea. I think it was partly that she had a nap so wasnt tired and partly that she picked out the cabbage earlier so she had no choice but to eat it.

5 The kids had a nice bath. The water was hot (boiler still playing up sometimes) and ds2 didnt scream (much) and we even had time for them play and get me soaked!!

    Thats it for me.

    Hi all

A bit of a mixed day today, as I found out that my cousin is ill and needs an operation, I spoke with her and she sounds calm but I am very worried. I hope it will resolve well.

Ollie, re. polenta, I hope you enjoy it. If you are a meat eater you can dress it with a nice sauce of tomato sauce and pork ribs, or sausages, or both.

If you are vegetarian you can have it with tomato sauce and a piece of blue cheese (gorgonzola is the best but also Stilton is ok). Stuff the cheese between two layers of polenta so it melts and then cover the top layer with sauce. Top with grated parmesan.

For vegan, tomato and mushroom sauce is unbeatable!

Here are mine for the day:

1 - Made pancakes for breakfast and all loved them - still got some batter in the fridge so tomorrow I shall make some for myself and DH.

2 - Walk with DH to the farmers market in the pale sunshine. Was famished and said to DH I wanted to go for a curry, then we jointly decided it is better not to waste money when we have good food at home and in the bag!

3 - Back home, found that DD's BF had brought loads of lovely sandwiches from the bakery and patisserie where he works, he gets them free at the end of his working day. Great, saved curry money and got free lunch!

4 - Made a load of marmalade as planned, yummy!

5 - DD and her BF are cooking dinner, roasted squash and parsnips, kale and I am going to make some couscous as a base now, while they cook.

6 - Just treated myself to the DVD of Nella Last's diary, Housewife 49.

Have a good evening all xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
