Hi Everyone,
Hester - Well done to your hubby, really great new:j
Mine for yesterday:
1.Toasted crumpets for breakfast
2. Walk to Mr.S at lunch time and only buying what I needed plus got an extra 1000 points :T
3. OH really enjoying what I cooked for dinner, I had already started cooking when he came in and requested something else but managed to turn what I had already started into what he wanted.
4. Found 10p in the street, all adds up
5. DD doing some community work with the guides, she was waitressing at the local mothers union. She did 2 hours work but the drama of it when she got home so tired you would think she had done 12 hours:rotfl:
Still proud that she helped out though and worked hard.0 -
Hi all, welcome ccp and any other newbies and lurkers
Congratulations to hester's hubbyI'm hoping OH and myself have similar good news soon.
Ollie - yeah I'm waiting for confirmation first - I want the redundancy money. If I get another job quickly, it will be a bonus - but being realistic I'm highly unlikely to get the wages I'm on now as I'm kind of in between two levels of work and so it would probably mean a drop in wages and back down to the level below as I don't quite qualify for the level above - if you know what I mean
Anyway - whilst I'm feeling chirpy - here's my 5:-
1. Ollie's reply - love the way you reply to everyone and all the smilies made me
2. The sunshine
3. Making toffee meringue bars (extremely sweet) with step son out of stuff I had in the cupboard.
4. Roast chicken tonight - my favourite dinner
5. two NSD's in a row - tomorrow should be as well - making 3.
6. The health care cheque clearing - didn't quite want to believe it till the money showed up in my account- most of it has been but into savings account ready for times of joblessness.
7. Working out with OH's current limited work, and my redundancy money, we'll still be entitled to JSA and housing benefit and council tax benefit and that might make redundancy money etc last for 6 months instead of 3 months.
8. Planning what I'll do if I get pay in lieu of notice... baking, housework, crafts, job hunting etcGoing to be seriously disappointed if I have to go into work for the final weeks
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Good evening, all, and thanks very much for your kind welcome. Ollie - your animated one went down particularly well with my cat - he spent several minutes watching it roll across the screen like a spectator at a tennis match - very cute indeed!
newlywed - I hope you get news one way or the other soon, so you can sort out what to do next. Good luck with whatever happens!
I've had a decidely un-OS day today, so some of my five might be a bit of a stretch:- Waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread. My spell of domesticity-by-loaf last night ended badly - it helps if you remember to add yeast - but I timed my replacement loaf so I could have fresh, warm bread for breakfast.
- Wrapping myself up in my pretty, fluffy new scarf to walk to the shops via the seafront. (And never mind that the scarf's so fluffy I spent most of the walk picking bits of fluff out of my eyes and mouth...)
- Finding a pair of canvas shoes reduced from £25 to £8. It's not what I went to the shops for, but they'll be good for the summer anyway.
- Treating myself to a nice pub lunch. This was supposed to be very money-saving and make use of a 50% off voucher, but that pub was so full I could barely get in through the door, let alone find a table. The one I ended up in didn't have a money-off offer, but did have a spare seat, so I can't really complain.
- Remembering that I've got a pizza in the freezer I can use instead of my planned HM calzone, which I can't now have as, like an eejit, I used the last of the white bread flour for the loaf-that-wasn't last night. It stops me phoning for a takeaway, I suppose.
Back after a very long break!0 -
Awwww just lost a long post - never mind, I shall make a brief version.
First of all sorry for missing in action for a few days again, being very busy as usual (you are so right Ollie I got to find a way to slow down!)
Hardup Hester best wishes for your DH's new job, congratulations!
Newlywed, hope you get a positive solution to your job situation, best wishes for the best outcome possible!
Here are some pleasures at random:
Last few days:
1 - Positive meeting with boss, feeling a bit more reassured and not quite planning to leave the job just yet.
2 - Visit to Borough Market, very expensive, bought a few things but they were such a treat that I do not regret it - but not something I feel I can do too often!
3 - All afternoon Morsbagging with my friend, we now have some 14-15 bags and more to come in next couple of weeks, in anticipation for national Morsbag release on 14th February!
4 - While morsbagging, had two pressure cookers on the go, one containing spelt grain for dinner and the other seville oranges for marmalade making (planned for Sunday).
5 - Had lovely dinner of spelt, veg and delicacies from Borough Market with DH and a friend (and a friend of DS's who lingered on and needed feeding!).
Today:
1 - Fav porridge breakfast in bed courtesy of DH - oats with chopped dried figs, dates and almonds and a splash of Agave Syrup (nice and low GI, tried today for first time!)
2 - Reading "Sucking Eggs" the book that I bought from Amazon after seeing Catznine's copy at the last OS meet
3 - Long walk with friend, via CartridgeWorld (to get printer cartridge - tots up 1 hour work!) and Mr S where I picked up a few bits and bobs for dinner.
4 - Free drinks at Starbucks (they gave me vouchers for the drinks - as well as refund for stained scarf and cost of dry-cleaning when someone cleaning the table splashed a choc drink on my scarf) with my friend, time for a nice chat, too!
5 - My neighbour across the road popped in with a piece of birthday cake that she had saved for us from her little girl's 1st birthday party. I cannot eat it because it is dairy (had the minutest of tastes though!) but the others will love it and it was such a lovely gesture!
6 - Planning polenta with mushrooms and tomato sauce for dinner
Have a nice evening all xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
1) tea, porridge and honey in bed courtesy of dp
2) having a lovely chat with my hairdresser about his precious first-born dd born at Christmas and getting a great haircut at the same time, the only thing I won't give up in the interests of moneysaving!
3) dd making a treasure hunt for me and dp and finding her little notes saying 'I luv mummy' and 'I luv daddy'
4) finding a shocking pink laptop cushion yesterday at Costco and deciding it's a good investment given the amount of time I've spent working from home recently
5) listing all freezer contents and doing mealplan for the next month (I'm popping over to update the mealplans thread next)
and
6) Harry Hill's TV Burp The K Factor – So You Think You Can Knit posting a link for nuttybabe, bonty44 and any other knitters. The knitted Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole were hilarious!
A warm welcome to all new posters, and many thanks to Ollie for all your lovely comments"We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright0 -
Evening All,
Newlywed - hope the axe doesn't fall, but if it does that you get gardening leave. And... toffee merigngue bars sound divine... what's the recipe???
Girlysquared - I completely agree with you not wanted to give up a good, though relatively expensive hairdresser. I tried twice last year and came out looking a complete mess. Now I am back with the Lovely Tom and I can go out without a paperbag over my head!!!
Ollie - as always, thank you
1) My decluttering has continued - I have put a load more books, DVD's, CD's and stuff on ebay and amazon. And have just have notification that one of the DVD's has sold.
2) My lovely friend Claire popped round for tea and HM biscuits. Nice to have a catch up
3) A little afternoon nap. Felt decadent and lovely!
4) I will be adding some of the not so successful 5 bean casserole to mince to try and use it up.
5) Washed the trainers that one of the cats threw up on.
Have a lovely evening. Stay safe and warm.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Fingers crossed for you Newlywed, I really didn't think hubby would get a job in the current climate & at 54.
1) Managed to repairs a childs crochet Blanky, he was devastated when it developed a huge hole, pics on my blog.
2) DGD loved her sleepsuits that I bought her for her 2nd birthday.
3) Found a Corrs cd for £1 in a charity shop.
4) Found a plastic cereal storer for 50p in same charity shop.
5) Had yummy HM soup for lunch made from stuff that otherwise would have gone in the bin.
