1) Reading Hesters good news! Congratulations! :j :j :j
2) Having a good old rummage round the other end of town and finding the most amazing local fruit and veg shop - lovely produce and amazing prices. Shame its a subway ride away from me tho.
3) Deciding to find similar fruit and veg shop as above at my end of town!
4) Yummy stir fry for tea
5) LOADS of yellow stickered veg in Mr S today so stocked up and froze most of itProud to be OS :j0 -
Quite a busy day today.
1) Cleaned the house - the bathroom, got all cobwebs down (they pick up the dust from the stove so really show up), dusted and hoovered the living room etc.
2) Went to Sainsburys by myself so didn't have to rush round.
3) MSE news - got a reply from the FOS about my PPI enquiry - that they are still working on it! I first passed my complaint to the FOS well over 6 months ago.
4) Both my sons had a friend round from school so I had 2 x 6 year olds and 2 x 9 year olds (in the world's smallest house). It all went very well. Little son would never agree to bring a friend home before but he enjoyed it.
5) Had a chat with the mum of the other boys when she came to pick them up. When my sons started at primary school, I worked nearly full time and I always feel that the other mothers have known each other for years when it was my mum or the childminder picking my 2 up. Add to that the school gate conversations which centre on their husbands or expensive holidays - I have had neither for over 5 years - and I feel I have nothing to say to them. So its always nice when one of them actually does speak to me!
6) Sudden fall of snow, just enough to be exciting without being a nuisance. Not like the last lot!
7) Enjoyed watching the final of Celebrity Big Brother. I'm quite glad Alex Reid won. Not that I'm an avid watcher or anything...
L
P.S Well done, Mr Hester :-)0 -
Today's...
1) HM tomato sauce on my Gnocchi
2) Feeding Chickens kids leftovers
3) Collecting three eggs from said chickens (lovely girls)
4) Arranging for the feral cat man to sort us some wild moggys to keep the mice and rats down:eek:
5) DS1 (3) deciding that one of the feral cats should be called lick and DS2 (2) deciding the other should be called bum bum... Not strictly OS but so funny :rotfl:#118 DFW Debt freely Christmas 2012 Challenge0 -
Welcome CCP, pleased you found us..they're a great bunch in here
Friday's five all rolled into one...
Had a little windfall, most unexpected and very welcome indeed! After getting over the initial shock I sat with a cuppa and contemplated what to do with it. My first list went something like this...
1. New coat (haven't had one for 9 years but do have other jackets in the wardrobe))
2. New mobile (absolutely nothing wrong with mine, just that everyone around me has got new ones lately)
3. A couple of new jumpers (just counted, I onlyhave 13)
4. A television for the bedroom (but I have a perfectly good one in the sitting room)
then I came to my senses and the final allocation has ended up like this..
1. Put away half of my car tax due in May
2. Put some towards the greenhouse fund
3. Put some toward DS and his OH's wedding in September
4. Put the rest toward my £1k challenge
Oh, how boring it is to be sensible! (Actually not so sensible, I bought a couple of lottery tickets for Saturday :rotfl:)
Night night, sleep tight, I hope you all stay snow free

Well don to Mr Heaster, nice to read good news so happy for you both.:j:T:j:T:j
Welcome CCP, this is a great place to be, mummy Ollie will be along soon, her chatty posts are great and she gives us all a mention.
Sparrer :A enjoyed your post, i have a list of wants too. I just keep repeating I MUST STAY ON TRACK. It is hard sometimes.
Will be along later with my 5 for today. Love BTx0 -
Congratulations, Hardup Hester's hubby!!!!!
My 5 for yesterday:
1. Finishing work knowing that I have next week off as holiday, and making sure all my colleagues who have to work next week know about it.
2. January is our busiest month of the year at work, every year, and it was even better finishing work knowing that it's the last time that I'll ever have to go through all that (see signature!)
3. Meal out with friends last night - not very MSE, I know, and sadly the food and service were both poor, but it was good to be with friends and enjoy their company.
4. Reading a lovely travel magazine given to me by a client - made my already itchy feet much worse!
5. Delicious homemade curry for lunch.
Have a good weekend, everyone xLife is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Morning All
Sparrer I know just what you mean about the windfall dilemma. I got my 'golden hello' for surviving my first year in teaching, just before Xmas. I wanted to book a holiday to Disney to thank my family for supporting me though these last two years. :A(It has been a learning curve for all of us!).But sense prevailed and we paid off more debts. I treated myself to my little netbook for Xmas, so I can join the family watching the telly and still do my school work. Then I discovered this lovely thread! Everyone has noticed how much more positive I have been since my new year resolution to keep up the '5 a day'. So it must be fate showing me the OS way! Well done you!:)
Yesterday
1. Amazing moon last night!
2. DH arrived home safe after nightmare journey to Kent for a meeting. DMil was v worried as she was expecting him for visit at about 4pm, he couldn't be contacted and he didn't arrive til 8pm. (Phone runout of charge! Worse than the kids!).
3. DS2 has got another Head Teachers sticker for good work. He was so proud, and so was I!:A
4. DS1 invited to friends after school. I had a lovely chat with my friend when I collected him. I don't see the mummies from school now, and I miss my old life!
5. Boss being very nice to me as he didn't realise I was upset by some feedback from senior management. He thought it was positive, but I interpreted it differently. All OK now. What a lovely man:A. He must be mad to want to manage a department 90% of whom are women!
Busy day today - making a birthday meal with a Liverpool theme and watching 'Across the Universe'. Must go and tidy up!:eek:0 -
Hester - hooray, so pleased for your hubby
Sparrer - I've got to the end of the month with money left over and have done some virtual shopping for a bigger TV (fed up of squinting at the one in the sitting room) or an ip0d. Needless to say, the "spare" cash has now been spent on savings/mortgage overpayment, lol.
I've been "away" for a while, reading and enjoying but not getting myself together to write mine, so this may be a big list.
1. Having an amazing hot stone massage last night
2. The therapist lives 5 doors away so I was able to float home
3. It was £10 cheaper than I'd budgeted
4. She gave me a £10 voucher for another treatment, Indian head massage next time I think
5. Friend's daughter babysat to give her a few pennies for a girly shopping trip today and she and my DD are like sisters, so good all round
6. Slept REALLY well as I was so chilled out
7. Have already started on my to do list for the weekend as I'm conscious that I tend to procrastinate and/or pretend I'm too tired
8. School film club this afternoon with DD and about 60 kids, yay
9. DD's friend and lovely mummy coming for tea tonight
10. DD's dance class yesterday was gorgeous, her first time with her real tap shoes on, they all looked beautiful and DD was sooo excited!
11. Having money left at the end of a month in which I felt like I'd been a bit silly with sales spending, so being able to start a Florida/mouse holiday fund for a couple of years' time, when DD is older and can tolerate noise/crowds more.
12. The evenings getting lighter and lighter, it's lifting my mood a lot, I love spring.
13. My garden waste bin has finally arrived and so I'm going to tackle a flowerbed or two!
I'll be back later with more I'm sure0 -
Didn't think I would be posting pleasure for yesterday as when I got out of be yesterday the day only held the promise of 'duties' and not much pleasure.
However, I decided to pop in to town to-
1. Buy some more of the pom-pom yarn reduced from £8.95 to £4.00 to-
2. Make pressies for 3 friends and-
3. Finished one and started another before bed time.
4. Had fish and chips, not had it for years and it went down well.
5. All duties completed in good heart because I had 'lightened' the day.

Morning all :hello: - decided on an early night and didn't get in to post last night.
ACEY - lol at your no.1 - oh the joys of parenthood. Fingers crossed for your PPI and wd on finding time to chat to another mum from the school - it CAN take time to get to know them especially when you don't often have the time to get to the school gates. I was hoping for either Dane or Alex last night and was glad it was Alex - now he can be known in his own right and not just as 'Jordan's arm candy'.
Kitchenbunny - wd you on getting your new specs - isn't the difference amazing. I got my last new ones in August (overdue from March) and I could notice the difference with just a couple of months. Do you knit at all - there's some links on this site for organisations that need knitters: http://www.eparenting.co.uk/knitfest/charityknitting.shtml
newlywed - wd you on managing to stick to your meal-planning/shopping budget - it's really hard when your mind is distracted the threat of your own redundancy while OH's work is so erratic. Best of luck with the redundancy, but I think I'd be looking around for something else, in case of 'the worst' happening. When it happened to me, my colleague and myself were left with it hanging over us for ages not knowing what to do. I got another job and then pushed them for a 'date' - then, I handed in my notice. At the time, it was stressed to us NOT to hand in notice BEFORE a date was given, otherwise we would have been deemed to have resigned and not redundant - and wouldn't have received the pay-off. I don't know if things have changed regarding rules, but make sure of your options before handing in notice or anthing like that. My OH is another who says 'just get me .......' and then asks for something ridiculous. I usually get him the bargain/basic equivalent - if he wants a premium brand he can darn well get it himself :rotfl:.
Tealady - wtg on walking both ways to/from work :j AND that the weather/conditions were good enough that you could do that.
scotrae - first of all well done for having such a successful family birthday celebration with the older members of your family - I'm sure they were delighted to be invited over for a meal like that. Secondly, hmmmmm, your OH's comments about the cost of the monthly shopping - £130 for a family of 2adults and 2 growing boys is really great - I think you seriously need to invite him to come shopping. If that's a no-no, then show him the receipts and the meal-plans and ask him for his ideas/menus/mealplans/suggestions - he obviously knows how to cook (or he woudn't be able to make gravy - unless it was granules). Have you both, as a couple, tried sitting down with pads/pens and written down EVERY penny spent in the length of the month? Maybe there's somewhere else that costs could be cut that isn't glaringly obvious. Did he watch Martin on Thursday evening - maybe you could find it on http://www.itv.com/itvplayer/video/?Filter=119031 good luck to you both
.
Reverbe - what a damn cheek of the woman from the 'signing on office' - you could have had a twin sister for all she knows! Great haul of freebies and whoopsies there. Hope your friend finds somewhere to live soon.
savingforoz - wd you on staying calm in work - I often wonder if I could to back to working in an environment where I was surrounded by other people. I've worked alone for almost 20yrs and 2yrs of solo-nights before this - would feel really strange to find myself with others around me now. Good luck with the roof repairs. Sorry to hear your meal/service weren't 'up-to-scratch' - hope you complained at the time to the manager. When do you actually go on your trip - I get all :j:j when I'm going somewhere?
budgeteer - great advice there.
sparrer - hear, hear - heartily agree with you. :rotfl: at being 'boringly sensible' with your windfall money BUT fingers crossed for those lottery tickets.
jollymummy - awwwwwww at your ds in school - sitting still is so hard and it's such a long day for them at that age. Remember going to collect my dd from nursery in an afternoon and often found her asleep in the corner at storytime - used to get herself comfy against the wall and just doze off. The sunshines this week has been really lovely - as if somebody had turned the light on
.
Hardup Hester - That's wonderful news for your OH - great boost to his self-esteem :T. I remember my nan having 'costumes' (often bought for weddings and then kept 'for best') - in fact I had a few when she was trying to get me away from 'little girl dresses' and into something more 'grown up'. ALWAYS worn for Sunday School complete with hat and gloves.
CCP -- you're very welcome
. wd on your 'freezer meals' - can't believe how long I went before even thinking of doing those
. Wd you on welcoming new neighbours to your building - hope they turn out to be some new friends for you
.
Girly Square - funny you should mention Costco - my son has offered to take me later - I've heard good stuff about them, so looking forward to this.
nuttybabe - love the 'Fakeout Night' - great name for it- lol at your ds1 - not asking for much is he
. How the heck are you supposed to differentiate between a 'grizzly bear' and an ordinary crocheted teddybear :rotfl:.
Odette - Wonderful time in a relationship when you're first moving in together. Take your time to enjoy just 'being a couple' and best wishes for your future together. Hope you have a good day window shopping in Hatfield.
Ladyhawk - lol at your no.4 - I'll bet she'll love working for YOU. Wd on your vouchers from the photoshop - and so they should - you'd spent quite enough money with them already! I wonder just how many people would want to go in and order 100 prints!
Mr Lahey - aaaah a Rugby man in our midst - may I ask which team you fly the flag for? omg nearly £100 for a new passport  - think I'm gonna have to start saving very hard for my next one.
house elf -- how sweet of your TA and class to make you that card for you
- and lol at 'quiet day at work - no chairs thrown' just the kind of remark that my sister makes
. awwww what a lovely boss you've got - taking time to chat when he knew you were upset. You'll have to make your OH take an 'in-car recharger' with him in future - men! Hope you Liverpool Theme meal went well
.
catznine - wd on your creative lunch- great combination. You well deserved your fish and chip supper .
Broomstick - wtg on 'finding' the lost £20 :j and wd on keeping up with your sealed pot £1 a day challenge :T. We had some snow as well in the afternoon, and fortunately it just looked pretty for a while and didn't stick.
thriftykitty - wd on finding a good fruit/veg shop and on getting your stuff prepped and into the freezer :T.
miecherox - wd to your girls for the eggs and good luck with the feral cats/rats/mice situation. Hope they can work for you!
bunny too -
Kittikins - lovely to see you again - sounds as though that hot stone massage did you a power of good. wd on your finances being so well-budgetted that you had money left at the end of the month - especially in January!
bella - wd on discovering that you DID have 5 pleasures after all. Great bargain on the pom-pom yarn :j and wtg on getting a present made and another one started :T!
Mine for yesterday:
1. Lovely porridge and golden syrup for brekkie in the morning .
2. Managed to get some paperwork up to date in work - yay :j.
3. Bedding washed and dried on the rad rails/airers/landing bannister rail.
4. Nearly completed an embroidered bookmark kit - Lily of the Valley- http://www.crossstitchuk.com/P/Cross-Stitch-Textile-Heritage-Bookmarks-Lily-of-the-Valley-Bookmark(8857).htm - turned out more intricate than I first thought
.
5. Emmerdale and Corrie last night and then Celebrity Big Brother Final - wd to Alex Reid who showed all who booed him on entry that he's quite a nice guy who seems to have discovered 'his real self' while in there. Wonder how Katie Price/Jordan will take to having yet another partner who's more popular than she is :rotfl:.
That's me done for now - got some veg prepping to do and some baking - now where did I put that lovely ginger bread cake recipe - hmmmmmmmmmm, I'll find it somewhere. Speak again later - take care andto all - love Ollie xxx.
