    Hi Peeps,

    Lovely OS cooking day yesterday.

    1. Made huge pan of scouse for my Liverpool themed birthday meal. Fed 7 of us and DD has taken LO for lunch at work today.
    2. HM sesame prawn toasts as a starter. (Used up some stale bread). Will definitely make these again as they were soooo easy, but use a bit more ginger etc next time.
    3. Nigella let me down with the 'Strawberry Fields Forever' cheesecake! It didn't set! But tasted gorgeous in an Eaton Mess style :o
    4. Lovely meal and presents from my friends. Don't know what we would do without them :A
    5. Goodbye hug from DS1 as he went off to his party. He doesn't usually do hugs, but I have got 2 this week! Definitly worth having a birthday for!!

Must leap up and tidy up! Managed to clear the washing up from last night, just need to sort the rest of the house! Think I might get out the steam cleaner today. Cleaning is so much more fun with a gadget;)

    Hi, everyone, happy Sunday!

    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. A lovely, bright, sunny day here in Bristol.

    2. No 1 meant that my roofer could come and sort out the minor repair to my roof. Always good to know that your house is waterproof!

    3. My friend came up from Weston to spend the afternoon with me.

    4. NCIS on TV in the evening - love that show!

    5. Delicious homemade golden lentil soup with a homemade roll for lunch.

    6. Extremely delicious chilli, done in my wonderful slow cooker, for tea, with rice and homemade yoghurt. I prefer yoghurt with chilli rather than sour cream because it's just much nicer.

    7. Doing my budget for February and finding that I have more money that I hoped to put towards my forthcoming trip. (Ollie, I think you asked when I was going - I fly off on October 5 and I'll be away for a year. And it's thanks to the moneysaving and frugal skills that I learned from this fabulous website that I have been able to do this. It's not an exaggeration to say that MSE has really changed my life).
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

Morning folks :hello: - managed a bit of a lie-in this morning, even though I'd said I was getting up early .

house elf - you'd have definitely needed that pan of scouse up here yesterday, hun - freezing cold and then snow in the evening. Your Liverpool Theme day sounds great, but what a shame about 'Strawberry Fields Forever' dessert - at least it was STILL edible . PLUS the boys won yesterday (about flaming time too!).
savingforoz - great that you managed to get the roof fixed :T AND had a good day with your friend. Your trip sounds wonderful - a brill incentive to live the 'sensible OS Lifestyle' - you'll have to find something else to aim for when you return. October will soon come around :j:j.

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. Large load of dark laundry done early and dried on airers/rad rails :j. Went to get the whites this morning and there's only 3 items in the basket, so it can wait till Tuesday :D.

    2. Porridge with Rowse Honey for brekkie .

    3. Phone call from dgd2 (27mths) - she'd pressed the re-dial button on the phone . Think DD now needs to start keeping the handset high up where she can't reach it. We had a lovely little conversation before I told her to go and get mummy. If I ask her for 'big hugs' on the phone, she clamps it to her chest and squeezes with her arms - you hear all the buttons getting pressed :rotfl:.

    4. Baking session - Lemon Drizzle Cake (left) and Gingerbread Cake(right)
cakes008.jpg- thanks for the Jeanette Orrey Gingerbread Cake recipe, GirlySquare - it really is very .

    5. Evening meal of whoopsied Chicken Kievs (Asda proper chicken breast fillet ones) with oven chips and peas/sweetcorn - lazy meal, but I felt I'd spent enough time in the kitchen for one day ;).

    6. Finished off all the cross-stitching of my Lily of the Valley Bookmark - only got the straight-stitch lines for the stems to do now and put the felt backing on it. It's been lovely to do this - only problem is having to have the 'Big Light' on at night so I can see clearly as the instructions/stitches are so small.

    7. Have put Braised Steak in the Slow Cooker for tonight, so am going out to DD's in a few minutes.

Will pop back in again later - hope everybody has a good day - love Ollie xxx.

Ollie - pour me a glass of vino, I'm a-coming for some of that lovely cake :) (either will do, I won't be fussy!). Thanks for the warm welcome back :)

    Yesterday's:

    1. Got lots of my weekend to do list done
    2. DD bumped her head twice (same part of head) but thankfully after lots of cuddles, a pink cake from the baker's, some medicine and lots of cuddles was okay.
    3. School film club was fun, lots of happy children and a silly film
    4. Popped in to see the 'library aunties', and am sad to find out that the opening hours are being cut to 24/week!!! Will be writing a letter to the council to express my dismay and hope that my favourite librarians (all of them in 3 libraries, I'm a frequent visitor) will be ok, financially and otherwise as there will have to be redundancies, I';m sure :(:(
    5. Lovely friends came for 'pizza party' dinner, the children played nicely and me and other mummy had a good natter and shared some cider *hic*

Will be back later with some more good things, DD and I are off out to gather good experiences. Have a great day everyone, being back on this thread is very heartwarming xx

Thanks Ollie for the kind support and link.
Congrats Hardup Hester's hubby - I'll go back a page or two to read more but he's obviously got a job so good for him. Fingers crossed the rest of us follow suit soon too.

Just a trio to keep me going:

    1. Picking up a bag of Freecycled clothes for my boys. Mainly sporty things - perfect for the bigger boy. After a good wash there were a couple of really nice pieces as well as some well worn play things with life left in them.

    2. Visiting an indoor car boot today for the first time to see if it's worth taking things to next weekend. Probably not but I did find an ironing board with a new cover for only £3, which means that I don't need to wait for my birthday to replace mine (which drops a level without notice!). One of the few sellers was the lady from opposite so I can ask her how it panned out later in the week.

    3. Hearing then spotting a new birdie visitor in the garden - a very vocal pied wagtail type - a giant compared with the long tailed types that came in the snow.

    4. Giving in and having a sobbing hug on DH's shoulder after admitting I think I'm 'properly depressed'. He doesn't understand it but at least now I've said that he won't take it personally.

Hi Reverbe, lucky you getting freebies from Villandry! Rosa Carrarini is one of my cooking gurus, she co-founded Villandry and her hot gingernut biscuits recipe is the best ever, linky is correct except for the cayenne, she only adds a pinch of cayenne in her book. No wonder they're called 'red hot' in the linked recipe!

scotrae so sorry to hear that the 'black dog' has reared it's ugly head, sending you lots of virtual hugs.

Ollie glad you like the gingerbread cake, can I come over with Kittykins? btw where do you get your loaf tin liners from?
