Good morning all !
VJsmum - I do love that film though ! What amazes me most is that the female does nothing except swan around with a wicker basket and meet Doctor's;) . There is absolutely no litter in the film except for a newspaper blowing about.
Frith - what can I say ? Let him go off to Sulksville on his own for a few weeks . The ball is in his court ..should you want him , he needs to make a real effort.
5 for yesterday
1.Sheets dried on the line.
2.Finding out our friend is o.k in southern Spain and has invited us to stay with him. The flights are soooo cheap we may take him up on it.
3.Made some yorkshires that actually stood up !
4. Roast beef (1/2 price Mr. T ) , yorkies, leeks in cheese sauce , roast spuds and veg !Yum ! Assorted pets ate the scraps .
5.Fell asleep through Countryfile :)Took a hen in to the lounge under my arm and sat down on the sofa with my Mum and she nearly died laughing when she saw the hen sitting next to her.
Have a good day all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -

Starting this just a minute off noon.
1. The old-style cold which is making the rounds of us is firmly here. It's a week since I woke up with a funny throat, but sneezing, croaking et al has been part of every day since. Fed up and cold, especially as I've had no hot water, hence no heating. since last Thursday night. I've downloaded the Manual for the new-ish Vaillant boiler ECO tech sth sth, but can't get the flame to light. Will have to ring HA. Have shower head hooked over basin for some hot water and am boiling kettle rather a lot. It takes little for me to appreciate a tap running hot water and heaters throwing warmth.
2. Dark gloomy day but luckily, as a welcome pm reveals[except content means a pleasure delayed] I was not alone in squeezing in a last-hour lawn mow late yesterday. Feels good to know it was done[and neighbour's front]when I look out at the rain now. I'd planned it too, having heard the forecast.
3.Spent a lot of yesterday at carboot, looking for another wallet[3 good leather ones bought for £1]and had an amazing time. Kitchen scissors too - 2 prs+1 sewing, all new & Fiskars for £1[don't think woman knew what she had].
4. Met lovely peeps from way back, one of whom will hand note-card I wrote for a mutual friend, an auctioneer they'll see this week. He was a stalwart when R&I were under siege, before R took his Life....12 years ago at the end of this month. Am I supposed to be as before by now? No, we heal up, but stay scarred.
5. Foraged wild apples on way back, because a late Waitrose stop, with masses of F&V, specialty breads, patisserie etc all at 10p meant lots bought, lots dropped off for L. I need to do pectin stock for various herby apple jellies AND pepper relish, as these were also all @10p per kg bag, at last. I'd been keeping eyes open for same.
6. With no heating/hot water, I have shower head[separate system, so some hot water luckily]over basin and soiled cashmere soaking gently therein for gentle handwash and savon de Marseille tlc. 5 marvellous finds of cashmere jumpers/cardies and a good BNWT outdoor workshirt from a fantastic heap yesterday - 25p each or 5 for £1. I'm glad to be wearing one cardie/jkt now.
6.As I left carboot[brilliant finds on rubbish bags and excellent AA batteries-I've long been a fan of Varta]I saw a stuff-laden table outside a house - it's a farming area. Couldn't NOT stop car and cross road, to then be invited in. Everything in the house was for clearing and it had been going all day, attracting lots of carboot traffic simultaneously! To cut a long story short, I will collect 2 oil paintings of some age later this week. Need to get stuck in to research, esp. of a tiny monogram spotted in the lower left of one. I love them both and may keep one especially for a few years. On verra.
7. I'm so glad I spoke in advance of the Ryder Cup commentary as a forthcoming pleasure. It has been absolutely outstanding, glorious, every bit as stunning as I recall, but superseded even there. R5 coverage is perfect, with Guardian updates. I even turned computer round to watch beeb catch-up after, till about 2am. All marvellous, except for Hazel Irvine[I'm not a phan]rabbiting over the top of the award ceremony as it happened. What was so well described on the radio was what I wanted to see, but didn't. Camera panned outside to her speechifying.
8.Much enjoyed Montalbano catch-up. Latest episode was the first of the books I read.
9 Like you mhags - only just caught up with GBBO result[fell asleep before end earlier]. Farewell Ryan and the woman - Jo?
10. About to put warm scarf round neck and go outdoors. Still have to pick rasps and of course I gave the peppers a good water+magic ingredient last night after mowing[before rain]. The leaf-stripped tomatoes look v. sorry for themselves. Heard so many more tales of blight, slugs and ruination in gardens while out yesterday. Slugs have taken to my beetroot leaves now.
11. Might have to put on my £2 new, as in NEW white wellies with metal toecaps. Couldn't really afford my pukeko wanteds in NZ and these will be wise for me, given my propensity for outdoor 'events'. No alternative when big things have to be tackled alone.
12. Drove my taxed car:-), with extra month! Village PO couldn't backdate it to end of August expiry.
13. Did anyone else hear A. Salmond doing a Boris J after the miraculous Ryder Cup result?
I assume he left the platform alive.
Frith - 2 things. First, huge apology and belated Birthday Greetings to your son: BONNE ANNIVERSAIRE! I had worked on a little thing and set it aside to pm to you for him, but clearly didn't do it properly, or else that sort of saving on mse is not possible. I thought it was. Anyway, you've all had a brilliant time and without that relegated, red-carded, non-team player.
I won't repeat what I wrote a week or so back, when this was ruction-in-utero, but everyone here is writing plain good sense. You know it.
Just put yourself in the position of a friend you've listened to and give yourself the advice you'd give her or him. You know all of these things. Actually, I see it as rather a healthier reaction this time, in that you seem simply to be picking up BUT NOT PUTTING ON the Been There, Done That t-shirt.
Can you be strong enough to simply not respond?
HE can come to YOU.
HE should write/apologise to YOU.
HE should do BOTH to Birthday son.
From long-ago, but fortunately ever-present childhood, comes:
EXPLANATIONS ARE NOT EXCUSES.
Okay?

Good evening all , well it is dark enough here !
Ampersand - lovely post , shame about the Pukeko -less attire ! I hope that you feel better soon and that the HA fixes the boiler . You are a Pica Pica you know -I bet you picked up a masterpiece ! I fancied a box of stuff at ye olde auction some weeks back a Sylvac Bunny and a few nice paperweights - I was prepared to pay £50 less than they went for :rotfl:
Skint - good luck with your interview -tomorrow isn't it ? Remember they are not allowed to discuss disability and health related questions during the interview either (as well as the app. form) and must stop you if you raise the subject ..... until they have offered you the job

Evenin'
Did start a post earlier - no idea what happened to it?
Hope everyone is well - Frith, good advice
Chicken - hope you like your mug - or do people give you lots of chicken related things and now you are overrun? I declared once that I liked Pigs, cue pig everything, till I was sick of them! I now profess a passion for Llamas - pure comedy gold, a Llama - but Llama related tat is hard to come by
Yesterday, and today
1. Did the ironing yesterday watching X factor - not going to get sucked in of course. Too late...:o
2. Roast chicken for tea - cooked by OH. Delish
3. Bacon sandwich for breakfast - cooked by OH. Delish

4. Recycled chilli from last weeks beef casserole.
5. Decoration of hall, stairs and landing has started. Unfortunately, but as expected, loads of plaster has come off with the paper so we need a plasterer to come in. OH and I are attempting to remove two radiators tonight. Stand by with a bucket! :rotfl:
Have a good evening.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
5 for today (Monday).
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Sons off to school happily, bigger son bearing his completed homework mountain.
3) Had builders in to give me a quote to stop the chimney leaking. They'll be back on Thursday with longer ladders!
4) Put lots of stuff on Ebay. I do find it a faff.
5) Went for a long walk and picked lbs of sloes and blackberries.
6) Popped down to see mum and dad for a chat.
7) Looking forward to listening to Just a Minute in bed later. Feel a bit tired and run down.
8) Have got all housework done too so can concentrate on smaller son's homework when he comes back in a minute.0 -
Hello again Frith - was going to mention last week you may have ALL of my listens to Just a Minute. It's an absolute 'Can't stand...' for me. Apart from that I notice we often i-play in unison. There was a deliciously wicked send-up of it on isihac a few weeks back. Now THAT I did like:-)
You've done well to set to your ebay bits today. I agree it's a faff, but it's extra pennies.
Mhags- a huge huntsman has just started walking up the wall from behind a logitech speaker...but I won't tell you he has 8 legs.
1. pk - I've just laughed out loud at your 'floordrobe' - new one to me. Thankyou!
2. Can't believe it, but by late this arvo, maybe half a dozen toms have colour! One is a beautiful deep yellow.
3. 5kg of apples eighthed and heating to slow simmer in preserving pan.
4. Went over to gym for re-start assessment. Grip rate is better than when I finished previously and BMI is lower, despite my horror at Dr's reading. Aiming for 20>24, says young R. Weight is 4kg less than last week too. But the loathed cross trainers await to doom me. R remembers my detestation and loathing of same, but bullets and biting have to meet...soon.
5. Came back to cricket T20 commentary as necessary mindless accompaniment to pepper snipping>tiny dice. No Ryder Cup spirit in that England team, but some might say 'No Kevin Pietersen either... prima facie, ipso facto.'
6. Thanks chicken - yes, they're Dunlops and actually have a distinct baby pink hue in their white. Test-drove toecaps earlier when I needed more pommes to round up to 5kg. As I did so, out came the sun!
7. tilams- checking your film ref., suspect strongly you'll like this:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118826/ - formulaic is a damning term and doesn't bother me when that formula is glorious.
8. Waitrose figgie/mango Wensleydale[yes, yes, reduced]was delicious on a corn cracker.
9. Another 400gms of raspberries =ed another kg bag into freezer.
10. Will use my pukeko mug for hot drink later, not quite a gumboot substitute, but found it last minute in a c.s, so 30 nice NZ cents spent for just such eke-out far away times as these.
sparrer - go easy. May I award you a special Hotel Chocolat something ce soir? Think you need one and any weight gain will be good cause and/or illusory....back to my Excellent 'if it's reduced it doesn't count' mantra.
Chicken - we'll visit an auction together some time next year. D'accord? M's sister has had the same overload prob.. Hers is blue glass, when she mentioned liking it. As she tells it, most amusingly too, this was over 40 years ago and she has not been able to undo/de-fable 'Oh T LOVES blue glass' since. She does not want another piece. Has even recycled some back as gifts en famille....doesn't work.
Goodness, j'ai faim. Off I go.
Snug evenings everyone and let's get rid of this cold.
Oh. 11 is pleasure-in-waiting. Postie today brought CUBG Mem card and bumf which will be nice to read in bed before too long. Off to do hwb now.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:
