I could swear I posted here just the other day, but no. Erk.
Some of the Vine Voices (reviewers) on Amazon were offered daylight lamps, alas not me, I think one would help me though. The awful weather this week has been a bit of a downer. But although not all totally OS, there have been some pleasures too.

    1. Clare Balding (the real Clare Balding) thanked me for a tweet about her book. I was absolutely chuffed to buttons. Clare is in my top ten of favourite people.

    2. Got Gareth Malone's 'Choir' book to read as well, from Amazon Vine- nearly finished it. I also really enjoyed his new TV series - it's on after Wartime Farm on Thursdays. Which is in itself a special pleasure. Even if I alternately want to cheer Alex and then boo him for his condescending manner that slips out every so often.

    3. Reviewing my wardrobe. I have all I need for this winter, am already blessing the furry Crocs that keep my feet as warm as toast when sat in my 'working' chair. Now that I have two pairs I shall also stay fragrant!

    4. Various OS meals through the week, but particularly the bacon broth that took care of everything hiding in the fridge. I never knew red onions could last that long... Ashamed to say how long.

    5. The horse I have an interest in, the UK's only coloured jumps racehorse, Angrove Rumbaba, is back in full training, doing fine. His next race is over hurdles. We know from last season that he prefers good ground, so getting a run after the deluges we've had lately may be tricky.

    6. Reviewed my tax self-assessment online and realised I was way ahead of the game for next year's tax. Too far ahead, in fact! So I revised the amounts due on account as my new contract has been delayed, and requested a rebate. I still left myself some leeway in case my earnings rise rapidly with the new contract. Hope springs eternal.

And reading all your pleasures.... I didn't know there was a Christmas thread. I'm a Christmasoholic, though I don't start it too early.

Just added - saw Tealady's kind thoughts. No floods here, though all around.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
  • Got to rush as bangers are under the grill.

Blooming freezing here today, many heavy showers, however it was a brighter start and I got my washing out and dried in the wind!

    1. Started the day with a bath. Woke up early and me and my library book had a soak !
2.for the first time in ages OH and I went to our favourite cafe, had something to eat and a good read of the papers and supplements.....we had our first date 24 years ago today :)
    3. Had a wee snooze.....was reading book but fell asleep! Woke up and finished book.
    4. Went to library and watched another 2 episodes of Bake Off, we get 2 hours of free Internet a day. Library was empty, it was the Australian Football League (AFL) final today ( Sydney Swans won if you're interested!) and people take their footie very seriously over here......me.....not so much :). I had no problems getting on a computer.

5.having chicken fajitas for tea, got DD1 staff discount on chicken and using lots of RTC peppers, which I had chopped up this morning.

Have a lovely day, here it's a night to be all warm and cosy at home. Wild, windy and very wet.

Thanks for that mhags, I have friends in Oz who have supported the Swans for years and said they didn't hold out much hope for a win. Now I can send them a 'congrats' mail, they'll wonder how on earth I know! :D
  • 1) Read a favourite magazine on the sofa, in the sunshine. Then I cancelled the direct debit for it. They're always running special offers for much cheaper than the ongoing cost charged to dedicated readers, and it's annoyed me for some time.
    2) Text from DD. Nothing special but it lets me know she's warm and happy.
    3) Got a long denim skirt and a T-shirt in the cs this morning. That was the good bit. However, my debit card was refused so I paid in cash. I'm very cross. DH has just been paid and there was a decent amount of money in there. The bank seem to have moved the goalposts to some unknown territory since we went over our overdraft limit last month. Anyway, it has prompted me to have a review, amalgamate some accounts and will discuss with DH what we need to do to minimise the amount of interest/commission or whatever the bank thinks it can make from us.
    4) Left over fish pie for lunch, eaten with a spoon whilst browsing the internet. I get slovenly when there's no-one to set the table for!
    5) MIL brought four jam jars and some walnuts yesterday. A strange combination, but very welcome.
  • Hey Everyone,

Sorry I haven't been around. After my holiday things were all systems go for the move. It's been crazy and I'm knackered but it will be worth it.

Will just list 5 recent pleasures.

1 - Went on an amazing holiday for my 30th birthday which included going to the Belgian GP. Not at all moneysaving (although we did camp) but I have been wanting to do it for years.

2 - The girls at the guides group where I'm a leader through me a red carpet leaving party and gave me a big poster with messages from them all on it. Was so touched, gonna miss them so much.

3 - Have had such a nice time with everyone in the lead up to my move. Lots of kind messages, cards and precious time together. I know I'll stay in touch with so many people.

4 - The excitement of the move. I'm now down south. Staying with my parents for a few days before I move into my new place in Kent.

5 - My mam. She has been an absolute legend. Not only did she do half my packing, she stayed in for the removal people coming while I was at work, paid for my flight down and just generally kept me sane. She's a legend.

Off to try and catch up a little bit on goings on here. Hugs to you all.
  • Good evening all!

mhagster - do you still have your Saturday scone ??

Mcculloch- glad to hear that A.R is back in training (2 miler??)

giddynici- we are an OK bunch too darn sarff!

Frith - I hope that your day ran smoothly today

VJsmum - glad to hear that your DD had a good day at college . I hope your visit to see your Dad went well and that he is safe and well in his home .

    5 for today

    1. Two lots of washing on line before 9am - lovely weather here :)

    2. As I like "end results" scrubbed the hen house out , fresh bedding and fresh bark chippings now in situ. Hen house now sparkling, and much cleaner than my own house :D.

3.Signed up to the Q&B 20% off for two days thingy. OH got the bark chippings , lining paper and batteries and saved a packet .

    4. Saw my family as it is my niece's 16th birthday today ! She is now about 6ft 2 in her socks and I feel like a toddler around her :rotfl:. She is going to the theatre tonight as a b/day treat to see a comedy act. She assures me that she has a female Maths teacher though.. ;);) She was horrified that I had a relationship with a much much older man at age 17 . Her Dad my DB, said it was because he had a Porsche -tbh I thought it was a Toyota Corolla at the time.. what did I know?? :o

5.Frith -thanks for reminding me the other day x Fakeaway chicken nuggets and chips for tea. Worked a lot better with wholemeal breadcrumbs .

    Have a good evening all!
:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A

    1. Son is off to his G.Fs this weekend, so peace reigns. I love having him around... and I love having him not around.

    2. Phone convo with DD. I have DGD, 11, tomorrow as DGS is doing something with DSoL, and DD is at work. I love having her over. Shame that rain is forecast.

    3. Ald* due to open here 2nd Thu. in November. Woo-hoo! This is official, though I don't know if it's common knowledge. So best kept quiet.

DD is going for a 'do' with colleagues who are moving to our store at a local venue tomorrow. That's good news for us as we will have some experienced staff from the word go.
I can still remember what a shambles it was when T*sco opened. One girl picked up the fish I was buying and waved it in the air, shouting to her fellow till operators "Eeeh, look at this, isn't it HORRIBLE"... Sorry, but that was so unprofessional it wasn't true.

    4. Books arrived from Amazon Vine (freebies) plus some free Red Clover tablets for women of a certain age. One is a book for DGD & DGS, was going to put it aside for Christmas but I think it won't make it as rain is forecast tomorrow. It contains interesting home experiments.

    5. Some good TV ... and watching Steve Gollings' good dual-purpose horse Local Hero win under top weight at Market Rasen. One of my newer FB pals was his head lass until last year, I discovered, but I've been following Steve closely for some years. I also discovered that Local Hero's stable name is "Peanut". Aww.

Hi Chicken.. Yep, AR looks like a 2 miler, don't think there's much long distance form in the family.

    Evening all.
giddynici- we are an OK bunch too darn sarff!

I'd pronounce it "down sowf" - but then that's what happens if you spend too long in Portsmouf. ;)

You lucky, lucky bunny. I'm not at all jealous, honest - not one little bit. greensmilies-029.gif (Yep, it's gone green with envy! ;))

mcculloch - I quite agree with you about Clare Balding - she's someone I have the greatest admiration for, both as a person and as a broadcaster - the beeb must be furious at losing her to C4.

Frith - hugs - I really hope you manage to sort out OH one way or another. I'm glad in a way that I don't get to see you in person, as I'd be tempted to sort him out good and proper for keep upsetting you!

I'll start with a late pleasure from yesterday, if I may - I had a phone call from my energy company to say they've sorted out the problems with my account and owe me a refund of nearly £300. That'll be a nice bonus when it lands in my account next week! :j

    1) Slept very late this morning, and have felt better today than I have done since the operation. I guess that's what I needed all along!

    2) Had to replace the bandage on my foot as the one the nurse did for me yesterday fell off. That's a pleasure because, while my bandages might not be the tidiest, they're clearly more secure than those done by the professionals!

    3) Decided to treat myself to a bottle of decent grape wobbleade to celebrate the money I'm getting back from the energy company, then found a good bottle on SO that made it not much more than I'd usually spend. :money:

    4) Picked up a couple of other bits while I was there, all of which were also on SO. :money:

    5) Exchanging emails with my new OU tutor, who sounds very nice and supportive.

    6) Heard a weird splashing noise coming from the garden and, when I went to look, I found a song thrush having a bath in an old plant saucer which had filled up with rain. I knew all that sogginess had to be good for something!

    7) Picked a HG tomato and 2 HG alpine strawberries.

    8) Making HM cheese and onion pasties for dinner tonight - well, one for tonight, and the rest for lunches at work next week, anyway. :)

Have a nice evening, all - I must go and make some pasties. :)
Back after a very long break!
