    And another one:-

    7. Finding a fairly local college that would love to have a donation of approx 100 car repair manuals for their vehicle repair courses. My late dad's collection has finally found a new useful home rather than going to recycling.

    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. Catching up with my favourite TV show that I'd recorded from Saturday night.

    2. Restful day - had a long lie-in, as i have a tendency to burn the candle at both ends.

    3. The smell of my onion and herb rolls baking. Didn't quite get the dough right but the end result seemed fine.

    4. Realising that I'm well within my grocery budget - making up for the last 2 months when I didn't manage it at all!

    5. Reading more great online fiction.

Have a good day, everyone x
Life is not a dress rehearsal.
  • My pleasures today are:
    • Spent probably far too much on bird feeders and food over the weekend but I truly did reap the rewards – our garden is full of so many birds and I saw my first ever blackcap – and his wife (who has an orange cap!) so that was an almost immediate pay off
    • OH getting interested in the birds also – he never used to mind them but now he is almost as keen a twitcher as I am!
    • Made a conscious effort to spend 20 mins each day of the weekend in the garden seeing as it was sunny – it felt a bit like summer and all the chickens came to see us and talk to us and the cat sat with us and the birds put on a little show on the feeders – was (free) heaven! Cant wait till summer now!
    • Talking with OH about when birds would start to lay eggs in time for the spring and realising that spring isn’t that far away! Next week it’ll be feb and then we’re nearly there!
    • Got a £25 voucher from BHS after I complained about their courier plus a very apologetic letter – was very grateful and appreciated their good customer service skills
    • Have been keeping a spending diary since last January and ive worked out that im spending much less than I did last January and im having more NSDs – very inspiring, I actually didn’t buy a doughnut on Friday as I was on course for a NSD, good for the pocket and the waistline
    • Planning our summer holiday in the bath last night with OH – thanks to MSE we can afford the holiday of a lifetime this year and I just feel so relieved and so grateful to MSE for allowing me to sort my finances – wouldn’t be able to do it without it!
    • Had a free mini baileys bottle delivered a few weeks ago – decided to crack it open last night – it was so delicious it encouraged me to dig out the big bottle we got a few xmases ago – which started an all out baileys appreciation night with my and OH – got quite giggly and warm inside, but no fuzzy head this morning thankfully! Its been so long since I had baileys and it was scrummy!

Good afternoon - time for coffee/comp break methinks ;). Hope everybody is having a good day.

sparrer - wtg on your 'garden shed fund' - wonder if my DS2 reads this site enough for me to 'drop hints' on here ;).
bunny too - thanks for that recipe for Peanut Crunch - sounds like something that I'll enjoy . Hope you've enjoyed your babysitting exploits today .
bella - wtg on stretching your Shoulder of Lamb like that - certainly 'earned its keep' ;).
newlywed - wd on shuffling your freezer contents - I did that myself last week and was amazed how much more space I found :j. What a great way to put your Dad's car repair manuals to good use - I'm sure that's something that he would approve of :T.
savingforoz - wd you on keeping within your grocery budget :T.
tudorfan - well done to you and your OH on creating a little haven in your garden for the local birds :T. Hope you've got your holiday sorted out  - gives us something to dream about at this miserable time of year :j.

Oh well - back to work for me now. I'll post mine later this evening - bye for now - love Ollie xxx
  • 3. Changing my bed this morning, looking forward to getting into it tonight. Love that fresh bed feeling.:D

Me too. I always sleep better too
  • 1) 'Burns Night' with friends over the weekend. I know it's today but we had it on Saturday so that we could all go. We had haggis, clapshot, a creamy pud with raspberries, then shortbread, mints and whisky. Mmm.
    2) A long walk round the reservoir with DH on Sunday. Half of it is still frozen. There were large ice floes in the centre and the far end was blisteringly hot. Definitely worth the trek out.
    3) The most peculiar evening on Sunday - DD wanted a lift out with some friends to a pizza place (very famous) and when we got there, they had no pizza in stock! We were so glad they hadn't taken the train. We bunged them all in our car and came home, so that I could get a voucher from MSE for another big pizza chain, took them over there and then collapsed at home for our tea. In the end, they had a lovely time and spent far less than they would have done in the first place.
    4) Left over Sunday dinner for lunch at work today.
    5) A day of prayer at work tomorrow. Everything else is going to be put aside. It may seem weird to some, I know, but I do like the attitude that there is something much more important than the 9 to 5 stuff.

    Hi all

Sorry for missing a few days, been busy busy, everytime I came on the forum and started posting something I meant to go and do my five for the day but somehow it did not happen.

Ollie, good to see you back and thanks for giving my pink fringe a mention in your thread, she (the fringe!) is honoured!:T

Here are my blessings for the last few days:

1 - Friday afternoon good Morsbagging session with my friend

2 - Friday night quiz night at a community centre with DH, DD and her BF, we came third from last and had a great time and some lovely food, very cheap and tasty.

3 - Saturday, the OS meet of course, meeting a few old faces and some new ones, too.

4 - Saturday after the meet, a walk around central London with DH.

5 - Saturday evening, homemade veg curry and tarka dahl with rice. Am very impressed with DH's OS ways, I had suggested a takeaway and he said we ought to make our own - I think that coming with me to the meet rubbed some OS spirit on him and did him loads of good!:j

6 - Sunday morning: Diet and Fitness Show courtesy of LilacLillie who pointed me towards a free ticket, with a fair amount of freebies (thank you LilacLillie!).

7 - Sunday night, Burns Night at home with friends, we had veggie haggis, bashed neeps and tatties, steamed cabbage and for pudding I made a rhubarb and apple crumble and my friend made shortbreads and also some vegan ones for me. Great evening!

8 - This morning, DD and I to the gym, her to work out with weights me to do my over 50s aerobics.

9 - After keep fit I caught up with old friends from the class who I had not seen for a while.

10 - Lunch, pasta with peppers, mushrooms and peas with DS and a friend of his.

11 - Afternoon tea while working, ate some more of the vegan shortbread my friend made for Burns Night.

12 - All my work is up to date now!

13 - Tonight planned dinner: leftover bashed tatties neeps and cabbage to be turned into bubble and squeak, with nut cutlets from the freezer and onion gravy.

14 - After dinner, going ballroom dancing with DH.

    Good night everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    1) tea and porridge in bed
    2) working in the office today just a few tiredy moments
    3) receiving 'glad you're better' phone calls from colleagues
    4) lunch break at Costco with work friend wandering around and then having tea and huge muffin in the snack bar for £1.60
    5) dp's gingerbread cake from Jeannette Orrey's dinner lady book, highly recommended it's a fairly mild one and dd loves it:

    Serves 4
    225g (8oz) self raising flour
    2 teaspoons ground ginger
    2 teaspoons mixed spice
    115g (4oz) dark muscovado sugar
    115g (4oz) black treacle
    115g (4oz) golden syrup
    115g (4oz) butter or margarine
    2 eggs
    150ml (5fl oz) milk

Preheat the oven to 160C/325F/Gas 3, and grease and line a 450g/1lb loaf tin.
Sift the flour, ginger and mixed spice into a bowl. Melt the sugar, treacle, syrup and butter or margarine together for 5 minutes. Do not allow to boil.
Beat the eggs into the milk and add to the dry ingredients together with the melted mixture to make a soft batter.
Pour into the prepared tin and bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes until springy to the touch. Cool in the tin.

    hiya all

been bit of a funny day. i didnt get to sleep till 3.30am and up at 7 so been in a bit of a daze really! Anyway, i still have a few..

1 Took a pair of jeans that dh got me back today and swapped them for a smaller pair :j and a lovely top to go with them in the sale :T at no extra cost

2 Got the kitchen de-cluttered and cleaned and shined my sink with white vinegar so limescale free now

3 Put some more stuff on ebay

4 Got given a carrier bag of nappies from one of my neighbours that her grandson no longer needs and they are ds2's size

5 made a really nice tea using leftover chicken. after dd nearly hyper ventilated at the table over a spoonful of rice she did eat all the sweet & sour chicken and noodles (which she has always refused to eat before). I let her leave the rice as long as she tried it first which she did when she calmed down. She is getting alot better with her eating and trying alot more but she did scare me today, never seen her that bad over food before!

6 and not forgetting the 41p for the jar!! I know its not much but better than nothing!! :)

Got to get on with the sock dog for my friends sons birthday, tried the other day and it went horribly wrong so trying a different technique. hopefully this one will work!

    5 for today!

    1) Had a good tidy up in the house and got every last bit of washing dried and put away.

    2) Sent little son to school with his Tudor house (made yesterday)

    3) Went to Sainsburys and had chance to have a proper look round!

    4) Did the garden. Swept, tidied, trowelled the flower beds over. Tackled the pile of logs too big to fit on the stove with the big axe (sort of lost the knack but got it back in the end!)

    5) Set both boys up making another friendship bracelet (its their big thing at the moment)

    6) Will watch C Big Brother in front of the fire later, a nice bath and an early night. Well, I always aim for an early night and always find something to do, but I shall try!

Looking forward to going on little son's school trip tomorrow.
