:hello: m-o-r-n-ing (sleepy head smiley) - how embarassing - two line-ins this weekend :o.

sparrer - I remember Ampersand mentioning going to France as well, but haven't seen anything of Kiwi for quite a while. I know she said that they'd been to the lake and her OH had been fishing. Is it perhaps their growing/harvesting season down there - she sometimes gets busy with their veggies/fruit? Hope you have a safe journey and a good visit with your mum :).
nuttybabe - your love-bug is gorgeous with the heart-shape on his tummy - very apt for upcoming Valentine's Day ;).
FunkyFairy - Well done on your Chicken Tikka from scratch - I did a curry last night too, but with a jar of 6p SP Curry Sauce that had been in the cupboard since last year :o. Your DD's Lemon Cake looks divine - she is definitely learning well .
savingforoz - sounds like you had a great Saturday - good friends, good food, lovely walk AND a new camera yay.gif.
Kitchenbunny - Wd you on getting your nets done! One of those jobs that I hate doing, even though it takes no time at all as you don't even need to make sure that they're properly dry before putting them back again - I think it's just the HSwashwindow.gif bit that I really don't like. Good Luck with the headache (((hugs))).
GirlySquare - sounds like your dd had a wonderful time yesterday with her friends  - and hey! guilty pleasures are definitely allowed, especially as you'd been a fabulous mummy all day with dd :T.

Nothing from me yet for today, but there is something that I'd like to run past you 'ladies of all wisdom'. On Thursday, my DD asked me to get some ingredients for dgd1 to take in school for cookery. This was the list:

    225gms Self-Raising Flour
    2x15ml spoons of Baking Powder
    125gms Caster Sugar
    60mls Veg/Sunflower Oil
    300mls semi-skimmed milk
a tin of fruit (cocktail) drained

and we were informed that it was to make fruit muffins. What do you all think of those ingredients? My first reaction was 'HOW MUCH Baking Powder ? - with SR Flour?' DGD1 said they were vile, which doesn't surprise me. Now I'm not the world's expert on making muffins - truth to tell, I've still never made any - but it still don't seem quite right to me. I have baked using Baking Powder for years, and for a long time I never, ever bought SR Flour - just Plain, using BP as and when needed for cakes/scones etc and that amount sounds rather strange to me - especially with SR Flour. Then again, it's for muffins, so maybe they're different - who am I to tell confused.gif.

I'm now off to sort my kitchen out and have a shower then that bedroom had better watch out - I'm on the warpath and it WILL be de-cluttered today - come hell or high water. Speak again later - love Ollie xxx

You are quite right Ollie - that is just a really bizarre ingredient list. And why would you make muffins with fruit cocktail?? Even with plain flour that is a heck of a lot of BP.

    How odd...

I am joining you on the declutting mission. One corner of my bedroom down... and a shed load still to do! Good luck!

    Hi All

long time users of this thread may remember I am probably one of the longest ever lurkers, but I do post VERY occasionally. Just wanted to say that I think kiwi said something about them buying a small farm and moving fairly soon - maybe that's what's keeping her away?

anyway, had a very happy five over the last couple of days so thought I'd list them.

    1. Had my long awaited (probably mid life crisis) pink hair dye done! I'm really pleased with it - fairly subtle streaks but there's no doubt its pink!:D

    2. Had my 2 gorgeous DGS's here for the weekend, so in full grandma mode - v.tiring but great fun!

    3. Spending a little time with my DD - she leads such a busy life it's good to catch up with her now and again.

    4. Really appreciating my fabulous DH, he really is one of the world's most patient men!

    5. Enjoying my family so much and being eternally grateful that I have them.

Hope everyone enjoys what's left of the weekend.

    Bobby
  • Here are my five pleasures for the day:

    1) Getting all the net curtains washed and re-hanged, I've even put a reminder in my calendar to remind me to do them again in 3 months!

    2) Making a huge lasagne for tea last night, and still having 4 yummy portions to freeze today.

    3) From that, there was a potful of leftover sauce to make tea on Monday night - gammon pasta bake!

    4) Having sent my Mum a recipe from Easy Cook (Low Fat Chicken Korma) and she loved it. :) I'm going to cook it later this week.

    5) Recommending my Dad has a look at MSE. Hope he managed to find a bargain or two. :)

Ugh, I've woken up with a headache this morning. I know it'll go and I'll go get some breakfast in a minute - homemade flapjack - and that should sort it. I need to pick up my sewing as I haven't done that in a while and it's a present for Mum, so I must get going. That sock love-bug is gorgeous! I love it!

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Kitchenbunny xx

Kitchenbunny - I like your five:) Just the sort of things that would make me happy too

I make muffins and my recipe called for SR flour but just one tsp of BP. They tasted good and rose well. Vile muffins, cakes and other sweet baked disasters usually go down ok when smothered with lashings of custard:rotfl:
  • My five for today are:
    1. Taking the last of my HM muffins to work today
    2. knowing that I don't have to spend any money at all at work because now I use their free hot water, bring my own Fair trade coffee granules and nice sandwiches from home. I never buy their fatty, sugary, low-welfare rubbish nowadays.
3.reading my Maigret library book in my break
4.Realising how lucky I am to work with a whole bunch of lovely people. I've learned over the years to look past the human imperfections, and to see the beauty that lies underneath (Just like my own)
5.Deciding to knit a little bunny for my mother-in-laws birthday. I already made one for someone else special and have enough yarn left over for another. They are quick and fun to make and he can sit on her bed next to a little teddy bear who is so cute.

Hi, hope everyone has had a good weekend!

I have had a lovely weekend, but haven't done enough work for school, so now developing psychosomatic illness in the hope DH insists I stay off tomorrow.;) Somehow I think he will see right through me:o

    Saturday

    1. Returned beautiful, but small, boots to Oxfam, :( and found a few nice things in exchange. DS2 was very pleased with the cool new trainers he spotted, (hardly worn!). Thats my boy!

    2. Decided to make a huge pot of stock with the chicken carcasses I have been hoarding in the freezer. Very pleased with the amount of space freed up until I realised that the stock needed to go back into the freezer! Doh!

    3. Watching DD in Swimmimg display. So proud of her and the whole club on their achievements this year.:A

    4. Family and friends comming to swimming display to cheer her on.

    5. DD finding pair of trainers she wants on an American site. Then pleasantly surprised that they were still a good price even with P&P to UK. (She's buying them with her first wage packet). Also managed to get an extra $9 off using a US voucher code!!:money:

    Sunday

    1. Funky Fairy's link to another world!

    2. I want to make a sock love bug too!

    3. Taking jeans back to Matalan and buying egg cups instead. Much more useful!!

    4. Looking at holiday ideas for July - a girl can dream.

    5. Visiting friends for tea and cake this afternoon. There should be more time to do things like that.

Meanwhile off to prepare veg for roast dinner and put off doing prep for tomorrow a bit longer!!

    Have a nice evening. :)

    1) tea in bed from dp and a mini lie-in as dd slept in for a change, though it looks like she's coming down with a cold...
    2) getting out the stardrops for the first time and giving the bathroom tiles and grout a scrub, looking good!
    3) using four £5 off Boots vouchers and getting four lots of facial wipes @ £1.50 each plus dp spotting some Tweezerman tweezers @ £6 in the clearance section. I've wanted these for ages but couldn't justify the cost
    4) dp getting film containers from Asda for me to use as dossett boxes for my daily tablets. I can make several up at a time and then it's really easy to slip one into my handbag each morning
    5) dd getting "Timmy Time Funny Faces" sticker book at Asda reduced to £2

Enjoy what's left of the weekend everyone.

    Evening all...

Hope you are all having a relaxing Sunday evening

    1) Using my new (freecycled) slow cooker for the first time... I have no idea how it will turn out but what's the worst that can happen??

    2) I have had a really good tidy and declutter of my bedroom. I have tidied and moved my wrapping paper/ pressie drawer to a bigger one and I will be putting a bedside cabinet on ebay once I have taken a pic of it.

    3) Chatting on FB to my friend's husband. We are all going skiing together in 6 weeks and I am really concerned about getting stressed by the fact that they are bringing their baby. I explained that all to him, so hopefully they will be considerate (last time we went away they certainly weren't!) and appreciate that I might not want to be around them 24/7. I am going to book ski school so that I don't get annoyed by the faff. I feel better now that they know.

    4) Listening to the radio whih seems to be playing all the songs that I like

    5) alphabetising my CD's... please don't tell anyone...

    Have a good week everyone.
