Evening everybody  - thanks for the lovely welcome back .

Missing for only a few days and can't believe how many new posters we've acquired - great to know that people are looking for, and noticing, their blessings at the moment :).

ACEY - sorry to hear that you got caught by that last lot of snow. Ours cleared here on Saturday morning and it felt so good to be able to walk confidently again :j. Hope all works out with boys/ex-OH/school - tough times but keep strong :).
savingforoz - well done on keeping up with your writing :T. Keeping my fingers crossed that it WAS the modem after all - otherwise I've wasted money on a new one :undecided. Hope the potential date turns out to be a decent sort. Don't know how on earth I'd manage if I was back on the 'dating merry-go-round' again - probably run a mile in panic :o.
budgeteer - well done on your OU course and getting ahead with things and wtg with your fridge list :).
Kitchenbunny - good to hear that your cold is on its way out and hope all is well with your OH.
Caterina - wd to you and your DD on continuing with your keep fit classes :j - and also good to know that things are looking up regards work .
GirlySquare - wtg on winning the bowling on the Wii ;).
thriftykitty - wtg on the scone making - maybe you could double the quantities for next time you make them - don't last 2mins in my house :).
nuttybabe - wtg to your dd for finishing her meal :T. That's a bargain for those potatoes - wd.
house elf - wtg to your sixth formers for their efforts to raise money for the people of Haiti - great to hear such good things of teenagers :j.
ginnyknit - isn't it strange when we watch our own baby having one of her own . I can remember feeling so protective of my grandbabies even before they were born and was so proud when my DD asked me to be her birth partner for all three of hers - even got to cut the cord with the last one, which was such a privilege. Good luck with your 'new girls' :j.
jollymummy - wtg on the BIG 40 - :bdaycake:- mine is but a dim and distant memory now ;). Hope you and DH enjoy your sneaky day out :j.

Uh oh - I've just had another of those messages that says Internet Explorer has stopped working - fingers crossed that this message doesn't disappear on me - nitey nite all - love Ollie xxxx

at least posting at this stage has preserved my first part ;).

Some of mine for the past few days:

    1. Some babysitting - had dgs2 and dgs3 overnight last Friday while DS2 and his g/f went out to celebrate his birthday. When the children were dropped off here, there was still thick ice/snow and DS2 nearly went on his rear getting back into his car. Woke up Saturday morning to everything completely clear :jump:.

    2. Managed to get out Saturday for some shopping, but 'kept it limited' to essentials only and some useful whoopsies.

    3. Invited to dsis's house for a meal on Sunday with the rest of the family for a planning meeting about mum's 80th birthday in Feb. As usual, we were very loud/lively (always the same when we're together) but certainly got things organised - even down to writing/posting invites - 100 people expected.

    4. DD has started her counselling sessions this week - at long last - and also had to visit the dentist twice. Poor girl isn't having much luck at all - dentist took one tooth out and its neighbour came out with it :( - I hope he doesn't charge her double .

    5. Got back from DD's about an hour ago - great to see her and the kids again - house full of usual chaos but lots of happiness on the kids faces . dgd2 using the potty very well indeed now :T.

that's definitely me done for now - will pop in again in the morning and try to catch up with reading all posts properly. sleep tight all - love Ollie xxx

Thank you ACEY and thriftykitty, your posts brought back many happy memories of my time in Crete - I had an apartment in Elounda and could see Spinalonga from my kitchen window. I used to sit there for hours writing, sometimes walking along the shore to Plaka or going across to the island with a picnic for inspiration. The book is one of my fav's too, for obvious reasons!
So good to see you back Ollie :j hope IE doesn't let you down again
    My five...
1.Having a nsd if you discount the shopping I bought for DM, for which she will repay me when I visit on Sunday

    2. Going to the bank to 'tidy up' my meagre accounts, what a lovely lady I met. We had a long chat about weddings and Jeremy Kyle before we got down to business :rotfl:

    3. Making a delish bottom of the fridge omelette for dinner, it was made of allsorts and really tasty. The eggs were a bit out of date but didn't jump out of the cup of water at me so I guessed they'd be alright to eat  (Washed out the shells ready to crush with all the others I save, they go on the garden and keep the slugs away)

    4. Peeling some carrots and parsnips that have been sitting in the fridge for a week (or two :o) to freeze.

    5. Simmering all the veg peelings and some sad-looking outer cabbage leaves in the microwave, it makes lovely veggie stock and the dog loves the cooked peelings mixed in with his dinner. Very little gets wasted in this house, I couldn't fill one of those waste food bins in a month of Sundays! :)

Night night, hugs to everybody, and stay safe

  • Mine for yesterday.

    1) DS came for tea, HMC sausage, mash & onion gravy with broccoli, all made from whoopies 60p for 3 of us & leftovers for lunch for me.
    2) Hubby doesn't need to go back to the osteopath regularly, good news as it's cost us £80 for 2 visits
    3) Enough of the 19p potatoes & broccoli left to serve with steak & kidney (frozen) tonight.
    4) Broccoli stalk & last potato made into broccoli & stilton soup using last portion of stilton given to me Christmas before last (it's been in the freezer).

    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

    Mine for yesterday:
    1. Managed to get some more good sale bargains so I now have most birthday presents for through the year and christmas presents:T
    2. Putting all my purchases into a spreadsheet so I know what I have bought for who and how much it has cost me.
    3. Feeling a bit more settled in new job, things are starting to get a bit busier. I hate being bored at work would much rather be kept going
    4. DD asking me to make lots of food for guides world thinking day as I did such a good job last year. Her patrol's theme is mexico so she wants me to do Chilli Taco's, chicken fhajitas and anyting else I can think of. Glad to know appreciated but feel slightly like I have drawn the short straw on this one again.
    5. Took some apple and walnut muffins into work yesterday which went down well. Plus people decided to donate to Hiati fund if they had one so a bit of money raised for charity in the process. Have a request to make more next week so will raise a bit more money.:A

Thats mine for yesterday. Glad to see you back Ollie. Hugs to all who need them.

Morning all :hello: - not exactly bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning - would have loved another half hour under the duvet but IT IS FRIDAAAAAY :j.

sparrer - ooooh lucky you having lived on Crete - it's ONE hot country that I'd love to visit. Adored the ancient stories of Theseus and the Minotaur and remember the fabulous scenery in 'The Moonspinners' and 'The Lotus Eaters'. wtg on the veg stock - really should get back into making this myself, but just don't have the freezer space at the moment. HAVE to make inroads into my freezer contents in the next couple of months.
Hardup Hester - wtg on s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g your bargains so far - the broccoli and potatoes have definitely served you well :j. Good news on OH's osteo visits too.
bunny too - wtg on keeping your gas bill down this quarter and wd on 'doing a Reverbe' - every little bit helps.
Tealady - wd on getting ahead with so many of your pressies for the year :T and good luck with the Mexican Theme food for your DD's guide patrol.

Can already hear the workmen trundling around outside with their diggers/jcb's/bulldozers - one of them knocked yesterday and asked if I had a needle and thread so he could put a button back on his trousers ;). Lucky for him that he picked the right house to ask at ;). The blessing is that we've been waiting over three years to see any action on this waste-land - been living amid a demolition site all this time and now the road is being straightened so that a Community Centre can be built - my pensioner tenants are really excited about this finally happening.

Need to use up some potatoes and corned beef, so may do one of those layer dishes with stock added and baked in the oven. OH should enjoy that, whereas he won't eat anything layered with cheesey/creamy sauces.

Managed to get some great whoopsies on Tuesday (including a haggis, carrot and swede which will all do for a Burns Supper :j). When I got back home, realised that I had to empty and re-organise the freezers to get everything in. Took some joints of meat out of their plastic boxes and re-wrapped in poly-bags to save space .

Hope everybody is keeping well. Big Hugs to all who need them or just want one (((((hugs))))) - speak again later - love Ollie xxx

    2. Chatting online to a potential date. We shall see...I'm so very fussy when it comes to men though!

Hugs to those that need them xxx
Gosh where are all you ladies finding these dates and potentials? Before I gave up for life I was on a dating site for about 7 years and in all that time didnt find a single person who warranted going as far as a date. Most were married, and all of them lied in some way usually re pics.(looks, height, weight, age etc) My tip for all those using online dating is to see the person on a webcam or at the very least one of those photos with a date stamp..

So many tales I could tell including the man who was a different colour than the pic he sent - did he think I wouldnt tell??

I did learn the lesson that most men lie tho...

Bunny that might be an idea thanks...

Evening all - hope you are well and dry in this miserable weather. I was supposed to go to a colleagues leaving drinks in London but decided it was too cold and wet and I had ended up working late.

    1) My poor furbabe, Toupe got into a fight again last night... despite being muddy and having a torn ear he seems fine. He slept on my bed while I was at work... naughty minx...

    2) Being given a lift into work instead of driving so got to chat to one of my nice colleagues.

    3) Got an email saying that I have sold my first ever book on Amazon! :) I just hope the other ones sell!

    4) Got lift back with another colleague so got all the gossip from her, which is always entertaining

    5) HM fish pie from last night for supper... really really yummy!
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
