5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Evening all... hope you are all well this chilly evening.
1) Having an extra 30min sleep this morning as I had a meeting that wasn't at our office and that started at 10am.
2) Having freshly baked cinnamon whirls at said meeting... I love cinnamon!
3) Stopping in to the charity shop in town and buying a mortgage pig to help me save up to pay off my mortgage. He is Irish so I need to come up with a gaelic name meaning wealth or properity!
4) I have been invited to attend a day long event at work as a "leader for the future" which is quite exciting. We are apparently going to spend the day doing all sorts of things to help us deterine what our blind spots are and to help our managers develop us further.
5) Collected a slow cooker from freecycle... I am now officially an OS MSE-er!!! I have no idea how to use the thing or what to put in it, but I am sure that I'll learn.
Have a lovely evening everyone and wrap up warmly.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Evening all,
Mine for today are:
1. Sorting out my savings account, was in an account that wasn't making any interest so have changed it to one that will and increased the amount to go in.:TFeels great to be in control of my finances
2. Getting some things in the boots 75% Sale plus bumping into an old work collegue who works there and he let me use his staff discount.
3. Made some Chicken and Veg soup for lunches with DD's help
4. Still sticking to my meal plan for the week
5. Walked home from work even though I was really tempted to get the bus today.
Hope everyone has a good evening. Hugs to all who need them.
P.S. Ollie we miss you0 -

Patchwork Quilt Well done on washing not dry cleaning better for the environment too
1. DH bought a Gaggia coffee maker from a friend at work, so we had frothy coffee and YS pain au chocolate for breakfast.
2. Left over cottage pie for lunch. (I'm glad I'm the only one with access to a microwave at lunchtime!).
3. Long day at work, but productive. (Lots of people have noticed my re organisation).
4. Collected DD from work. So proud of her. She balances so many things. College, Swimming, boyfriend, PT job and even has time for a social life! More than I can manage!
5. Hm lasagne for tea. V nice, but getting a bit fed up of 'winning ways with mince' this week. Looking forward to the curries I have ordered from school tomorrow. A bit pricey, but Sixth form have made them to raise money for Haiti earthquake. :A
I have been reading the OS daily thread. Much more cosy on here. :grouphug:
Hugs to all that need them!

Hi all
Jollymummy, happy birthday for tomorrow!
Sparrer, so sorry about your DD's dog, it must be so sad to lose a dear pet.
nic1lou2, glad to hear the op went well, wishing you a speedy recovery!
Kitchenbunny, sorry to hear that you are not feeling well, I hope you get better soon.
(((HUGS))) to all who need them.
Here are mine for the day:
1 - Started volunteering for the Real Bread campaign. Very nice atmosphere and such a pleasure to be in a busy office again (as a volunteer and only for one day per week, mind you!)
2 - As a volunteer I get up to £4 refunded for lunch expenses so I treated myself to a curry in a place that does vegetarian curry buffet (eat as much as you like) for £3.95, delicious!
3 - Back home, managed to get a family soup from two separate boxes of leftover soups from the last couple of days, stretched with a few more fresh veg, some stale bread cut into croutons and some water.
4 - Homemade coleslaw, very tasty and everybody loves it.
5 - Still on the food theme, I have fancied a nice apple crumble for ages so I made that too, and made vegan custard so I can have it too. Loved it!
Early night tonight, very tired, off I go to sleep now! Have a great evening all xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
nicilou2 - hugging and hoping for you xx
The forecast snow not materialising in my part of the world, leaving the roads clear to drive an hour to friend's father's funeral, arriving on time and finding a parking space.
Feeling so proud of my friend and her composed, dignified tribute to her wonderfully witty and incredibly intelligent father (as I hoped she wouldn't notice my blotchy eyes).
In spite of not knowing anyone else at the 'refreshments' bit while family went off, some kind man spotted me and took me to sit with his wife. Chatting with another couple at the table I discovered we'd actually both driven from the same area and they live less than a mile from my family home. Such a small world sometimes isn't it?
The sky lanterns I ordered yesterday ready for my boys' party this weekend arrived in less than 24 hours, P&P free! They are 'eco' ones and should have no wire in so I'll be interested to see if they live up to expectations!
Not a lot else - just grateful for my own parents' health after recent events and in light of this sad day.0 -
I have been guilty of not counting my pleasures for a while
So here are mine they are a bit mixed up, but then again so am I
1) not getting the snow, yes I know its white and pretty but after 2 weeks solid of walking to work in me flowery wellies it was nice to put them in the cupboard
2) Realising its halfway through the week ....woooohooooo
3) spending last weekend with just me and OH, due to public hols, the ex needing her time and us going away at xmas for 2 days we have had DSD for every weekend since begining of Nov and while I love her to bits, it was nice to spend a w/e alone
4) hearing that said DSD has done very well in her course work A* in some subjects and has had interview for college and been accepted
5) not sure if this is a pleasure or not lol, crocheting a gown for DGD christening.....3 ply wool and a 2mm hook  but looking forward to seeing the end product.whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine
Stopped smoking 20:30 28/09/110 -
Thank you everybody for your kind words, I passed your messages on to DD who was very touched by your kindness
nicilou2 thinking of you and wishing you well
lol@savingforoz. I was asked by someone on a dating site how many children I wanted - I was 54 at the time :rotfl:
Ladyhawk I got my first slow cooker for Christmas, took a couple of practices but now I love it and wonder why I didn't have one years ago. Have fun with it!
Happy Birthday jollymummy, and many more to come - 40 is a great age, you're just old enough to be taken seriously and young enough to be able to get away with anything you want to do
My 5..
1. Quite a bit chillier today but the snow didn't arrive, probably the best news of the day
2. A nsd
3. While I was very pleased with the turkey drumstick curry made in the sc last week, I'm really quite happy to have finished the last of it today . It gave me 6 dinners, with added veg, so approx 50p a portion..very MS. I'll do it again, but maybe not this week...
4. Made a basil and olive loaf in the bm which was really delicious. The best so far, I think
5. All the bedding washed, dried and away in the airing cupboard and fresh bedding on so lovely clean sheets tonight. Am I the only one who doesn't have trouble putting on a king sized duvet cover? At 5 feet nothing you'd think I'd get in a tangle but it always seems to go on in no time - even if it does leave me breathless!
Night night, take care and big hugs for everyone

Morning all :hello:
Really missed everybody but have now got a new modem so hoping that this solves my problems with the dodgy connection.
speak again later, Ollie xxx
Haven't got time to read all your posts but will definitely catch up later today.0 -
OK, here's mine for Wednesday...
1) Woke to another 4 inches of snow :-( Thought I would try to take the boys to school and I really wanted to go to college as we had had to cancel 2 sessions. Got down the big hill out of the village and the snow was only 2 inches deep. Got a mile down the road and there was no snow at all! So we must have been right on the edge. Felt silly driving through town to college with my "Snowmobile" car when there wasn't a flake of snow on anything else! :-D
2) Went to college. I am doing a counselling course and sometimes the role plays we do (to practise) seem very stilted but yesterday's ran very smoothly. Lets hope it works like that when I get assessed in a couple of weeks...
3) Picked the boys up from school and they were quite contented. Don't know when to tell the teachers a) the ex is not picking them up anymore, b) the ex is out on bail and may end up with a prison sentence and the obvious impact that will have on the boys and c) little son has autistic traits (though they have noticed c) already!)
4) Finished my book "The Island" by Victoria Hislop.
5) Enjoyed watching the James May in Space programme (can't remember the exact title) on iplayer.
Sharp frost this morning so I am stopping inside to do 2 lots of college homework.

My 5 for yesterday:
1. Reading some outstanding online fiction. Currently following a great story that gets updated daily.
2. Seeing George Clooney's new film - not great, but I can't complain about looking at him for 2 hours...
3. Spending time with my friend Richard and treating him to our cinema trip, as he'd been a good friend the week before.
4. Getting another early night - I don't function well without sleep, yet I have a tendency to burn the candle at both ends.
5. Getting a really lovely review of the latest short story that I wrote.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0
