Good evening all
Here are my five for today:
1 - Woke up feeling much better after having been a bit poorly yesterday.
2 - Made DH breakfast and packed lunch, then had the time to relax in bed with a cuppa before getting up for the day
3 - Did a mystery shopping lunch with DD and it was lovely
4 - It is the weekend so I am looking forward to spending some time with DH
5 - The weather is improving!
Have a good night all xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening all.
Caterina - thanks for the vegeburger recipe - that's given me a good idea where to start. :T
TILAMS - no sneering at baby potatoes, please - I grew some myself this year. OK, I didn't mean to - they were normal potatoes that just didn't grow properly - but please don't give them an inferiority complex!
1) A family of blackbirds - mummy, daddy, and two recent fledglings - eating snails in my garden this morning. Come on in, birds, it's an all-you-can-eat buffet!
2) My young fox was back as well.
3) Had a bit of a raid on the sales: I bought some new bathroom towels, which I really need as my current ones are getting rather threadbare, and a couple of bracelets, which needless to say I really don't need at all.
4) It's only just started raining after being dry and fairly sunny all day. (Good weather's a pretty relative concept at the moment, isn't it?)
5) Macaroni cheese with bacon and peas for dinner - one of the finest comfort foods I know.
Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Hi All,
Better day today here!
My pleasures for the day:
1. Savings of over £24 today towards house deposit. Now saved over £100 this month alone just by being really savvy with money and trying to 'beat the budget'!
2. Homemade vegetable lasagne for tea.
3. Got prices for the butchers my sister works at (with staff discount for family :money:), it is renowned as one of the best butchers in the south west and surprisingly even before discount prices are reasonable. Needless to say with discount the prices are very good. Really pleased as this is a huge step forward in quality of food we eat, lifestyle change in using independent shops instead of supermarkets which is what we really want to do and also the more 'meat' I have in the freezer the more home cooked food I will make which again is better quality in terms of taste, health and cost in comparison with supermarket ready meals!.
4. New routine implemented from today for 6mo DD, hoping in a few days she will start showing some signs of sleeping through!
5. Pondering some lifestyle/quality of life aims which I may write down to help me focus on where I want to head.
6. My 'night off tonight!' Hubby always tends to the kids friday night and Saturday morning so I always get 1 night of sleep a week!
7. Lovely visit to see a friend today who after being quite ill recently is feeling a little better - made plans for her to come over next week with the 3 godkids for some paddling pool fun in the garden.
8. Might make a list tonight of all the summery things we can do - after all this rain I feel the need to extract every last ounce of this sunshine!
9. Transferred £49 from my birthday money into the shabby chic summerhouse fund! (I am saving to buy a new summerhouse which I can paint out and fill with shabby chic things and where I can escape the house and do crafts/bird watch/relax. A space for me and me only definitely no kids and probably no husband).
Stacey x2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.
Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(0 -
Good evening all !
PK -Sorry to hear that the solderer was out of stock !
CCP - you can keep the fox- hhhmm ...a fox burger would go down well here ! ;)Apart from their obvious interest in the hens - they keep dragging out one plastic sunflower oil bottle out of the recycling box.I find it up the garden with its lid all chewed most mornings even though I put it back each time ! :rotfl:
Iwab - nice that you can have a bit of a break when your OH "takes over" we all need some "me" time. Some of us more than others
5 for today
1. Day off !
2. Went to Ascot (thanks for asking PK) I have never been to this racecourse before - its truly stunning . Like a mega mega posh Sandown Park . There were fantastic sculptures of horses and the Queen and Mr. Queen when they were younger and other sculptures of people . The racing was bliddy good as well -and the staff were superb. It didn't rain either ! Got free tickets today but I will be going back as a paying customer .
3. Won a bitOH won a bit more
but to be fair he put on a bigger stake .
4. Not so good was the car park they call the M25 on the way back . There must have been about 4 accidents - it didn't look as if anyone was hurt though ! Then had to take OH to 1066 country to pick up a van adding an extra two hours to journey home and now just very glad to be home .
5.OH is going on a diving holiday at 3 am tomorrow morning for a week. Much as I love him , I also like having a tidy house and I use the same cup and plate (washed of course ) all week. This amuses most of my folks !
have a lovely sunny weekend all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Well, what a day!
Last day of primary school for bigger son. On the downside, I have had a copy of the SEN statement that school are sending to the County Council for smaller son. The child described in it bears to relation to the one I saw this morning talking to my brother about photosynthesis or the one lying in the tent at the moment with his cat, listening to the ipod.Still, it is progress, I suppose.
Here are my pleasures for today.
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Bigger son enjoyed his last day at school.
3) Went to brother's and I hoovered my car out and smaller son helped him move tractor loads of logs up to the house.
4) Jet washed the car (smaller son's favourite activity).
5) Got a couple of plants for the roadside strip of garden so that looks colourful again.
6) Watched bigger son's leaving ceremony including everyone ringing the school bell (proper bell in a turret).
7) Sons had their hair cut - hoorah! Smaller son's looks quite normal now. Bigger son still has too much but it is collar length and he can see where he is going. It was half way down his back earlier this year.
8) Had a phone call from the head of Children's Services at our County Council. I have had the most awful woman as smaller son's CAF coordinator - really aggressive and rude. She is the second person I have ever shouted at in my life. Anyway, I wrote to say I wanted a different coordinator and the head of service wanted me to spell out why. :-/ I gave a few quotes of nasty lady and said she had told my OH he was not allowed to speak (!) so we have seen the last of her. :T:j
9) Texts and emails from OH.
10) Made a really tasty tea, quite by accident. Brother is defrosting his freezer and cooked some goose yesterday so gave me a large quantity of that. Made rice with sweetcorn and peas in then warmed the goose through with some plum sauce and it was marvellous! Would have been really good in place of duck with some pancakes.
11) Giving the house a really good tidy and clean as I shall be away most of next week.
12) Smaller son now in the tent "overnight"....
13) Kittens
14) Might have an early night and listen to the Now Show on iplayer.
15) My brother phoned to say he is coming here tomorrow with his ladder to mend the leaking bit of chimney.
16) Seeing OH tomorrow and indeed much of next week as all our boys are with their other parents.0 -
Very much a day of ups and downs. Bag turned up, next door safely delivered of baby number 3 and one of DD2's old school friends died suddenly at the age of 19. Just been to edinburgh to pick up a tearful DD. like a say, a day of ups and downs. Hugs to all. RIP SLMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Thank you (and thanks all for the good wishes) - though it is in my sinuses as wellit has been a long time since i have known the pain I woke up in at 2 am this morning.
Chicken, glad you enjoyed the racing. My OH often goes away for a week with the lads and, I have to say, I do rather enjoy it now though it was different when the kids were small.
For today
1. Thank goodness for paracetomol and Ibuprofen which have alternately seen me through the day
2. Had my hair done. it is darker and redder than it has been for some time - I llike it.
3, DS has finished school for 6.5 weeks :j
4. Somehow, and I don't really know how, we are pretty much ready for our holiday
5. Listening to "Cabin pressure" whilst doing all my chores
So, tomorrow we are off. I will be checking in from time to time as wifi is available in hotels. And you will all have me to thank for the improvement in the weather as this country is always nicer when I am not in it :rotfl:I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Dundeedoll - sorry to hear about your daughter's school friend. x0
-
OT the tubs sound pretty, I love wild flowers or anything 'country' in my tubs
DD Pleased to hear you got your suitcase safely back home. How very sad about the young girl, my heart goes out to her family
Caterina thanks for the very versatile burger recipe, do you have to cook the lentils first? I know some pulses have to be but not sure about lentils
Chicken it sounds as though the atmosphere at Ascot hasn't changed much since we used to go. Well done on the win
VJsmum have an amazing time, rest and get well soon so you can enjoy your holiday
IWAB you're doing so well, you should be proud of yourself. The summerhouse sounds as if it's going to be a peaceful little sanctuary away from the 'madding crowd'
TILAMS I couldn't agree more re the sprout stalks, it shouldn't but still surprises me that people throw money away by buying that sort of gimmick. More pence than sense!
1. Housework day, it's all looking quite clean and shiny, for now. Managed to get some gardening done between showers and pick a few more soft fruits
2. nsd/npd, the joys of housework day
3. The nice man came to sort my downstairs doors out, now I can get in and out of them without having to shoulder them open
4. Postie brought me a letter from an old friend, haven't heard from her since Christmas. Mind you I'm as bad, I haven't written since Christmas either. Will make time to reply over the next few days
5. I'm in a cooking mood so am just going to construct tomorrows dinner of meat free moussaka. No rush to get up in the morning, I can have a lie-in before I go out, if you see what I mean!
Night night, sleep tight0 -
DD - hugs to your DD for her loss
x
Yesterday's goodies........
1. Popped over to babysit a friend's little one for an hour and had a great time singing, reading books, playing with the fridge magnets etc etcShe's such a cutiepie
2. DD's last day in infants, she is mega-excited about being a Junior next term
3. Bought TONS of fruit and vegetables, so hope the diet can stay on track (feeling very fat this morning)
4. OH is here
5. We took DD out to see a G&S musical last night at a local amphitheatre - she loved it and was transfixed during some of the songs0
