Chickenopolis wrote: »VJsmum - Does your husband still have his schoolboy traits ?
Erm - still has little interest in sport, even if the ball does come his way, his obsessions still interfere with how much use he is around the house and it depends on the facts! What is the quote "show me the child at 7 and I will show you the man"??
Wow lots of news - glad for those with clear health scans, that must be a load off. Frith - you really are going through it, but good for the OFSTED person.
Love that Jenny Joseph poem - let us hope that one day we all wear purple with a red hat. Yes, even you, TILAMS
Talking of purple, it was DDs prom tonight and that was the colour of her frock. She looked gorgeous and it was worth all the hassle and some of the expense!! The event was fun and we enjoyed watching the arrivals. There were few / no lambs dressed as mutton / chavvy looking girls and boys - though there were a couple of sights for sore eyes in some of the choices of apparel
So for today
1. DD at her prom. Elegant and classy. She is a bigger girl and she had dressed appropriately for her shape and size. She has a cracking figure which is all in proportion, just a size or two bigger than some. A beautiful structured dress that pushed her out and sucked her in, in all the right places. A fortune on hair and nails but she looked like a princess.
2. A fun time watching the "arrivals". DD was in a sleigh with her friends! complete with santa and elves. There were the usual limos and then some rather more unusual things - 3 boys on mobility scooters which I thought might offend me, but didn't. One girl in a soft top MG with a topless man, a boy on a harley davidson. All good fun
3. More mundane things - did my Montreal presentation for people at work. Did at a damn sight better than I did in Montreal
4. Curry night with the girls
5. Coffee with a colleague who I think I was able to help through a dilemma
Also had a chat with my big bro on the phone which I can't list as a pleasure as he has left me with a couple of bombshells to contend with - his son attempted suicide a while ago and his wife (my SIL) has been diagnosed with an incurable illness - albeit one where we don't know how it will pan out and could take many many years to come to fruition. We already have experienced suicide on my OH's side of the family so know that this could rumble on. On a positive side, my bro does like to overdramatise so SIL's illness may not be as grim as he said. Let's hope.
Waiting for DD to come home now so I can hear all about it.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
1) I walked from Liverpool St to my sisters 15-20 mins, then 15-20 mins to Tube, then from Train Station to another sisters 30-40 mins! so madamoiselle feels exhausted and definitely wanting to hit the very nice sack in my sisters house en-suite Guest bedroom.
2) I had a lovely HM Chilli Con Carne with red wine x2 and nice garlicy salad so absolutely no need whatsoever to hit favourite eateries at the station including sinful McDonalds.
3) Lots and lots of Channelling inner Auntie with the Kids -two boys my nephews who love me enough to cuddle me and be cuddled which is nice and some advances in my child care skills. They did as they were told which was great and were really good boys as well. Definite advances today and happy productive time.
4) I have just come out of a lovely hot bath in my en suite here nice for privacy.
5) Reading my old Kindle is proving very useful and reading really helps me to need TV and shut of advertisements this time Rolex watches on dynamic screen. London is awash with them, the tube is plastered with them. My wee books especially sinfully Academic which cost more than average set me up in good stead.(think working class intelligentsia to channel moi and those working men who made an intelligentsia which the nasty Bloomsbury group suppressed).
6) a really nice chat with a mother and her kids on the bus to the station, the kids tested me and were smiling, and the mother was lovely.
6) a lovely thread on MSE!!! as I have to go offline to see lappy repaired by my brother here in london!!!#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.
Reading whatever books I want to the rescue!:money::beer[/B

Evening (morning) all
VJsmum your DD sounds lovely, hope she had a good time at her prom.
Frith sorry to hear younger son didn't respond as hoped at the meeting. Pleased you can still find pleasures in your day
DD have a super time in Poland, it's on my bucket list of 'to visit's so please let us know how it was, when you get back
DD/CCP mine goes something like this - let cat out. Let dog out. Let cat in. Let other cat out. Let dog in. Let cat in. Let dog out. Let cat in....hold it! That's three cats in and I only have two! :rotfl:
CCP so I'm not wierd just because I don't like chocolate very much. Phew, glad I'm not the only one
Kittikins another lovely DD, you must be so proud of her
Skint I think it happens because we're getting more conscious of what we eat. I still think about food a lot, only now it's about how I can make tasty meals in a different way. Like your bacon butty, I'd cut the 'tail' or fatty end off and just eat lean meat, use ff yogurt instead of butter/spread, and have WW Danish rather than ordinary bread. It cuts the cal content by about half and is really yummy. Sorry, I know I should have put that in the right forum but just replying to what you asked here
1. First time I've managed to complete all 7 exercises at the weights and times specified on my programme, in fact I did double on the treadmill cos DD and I were watching a good programme
2. No word from the plasterer so phoned the HA who said they tried to phone me yesterday pm and got no reply. Umm, I don't want to doubt them but I was at home all afternoon. They promised to phone me back but still haven't. I was told it would be completed by this week so I'm not a chirpy sparrer but in the meantime it's giving me time to replace the money the fence cost me, so one small 'pleasure' there
3. It was pouring when I left DD but hadn't rained here at all so my washing was dry when I got home. Strange weather, we're only 9 miles apart and one of us can have a snowstorm while the other is in sunshine
4. Stopped at the local shop for milk on the way home, they had trays of geraniums for £1 each or 2 for £1.50p so naturally I bought two. Goodness knows where I'm going to put them but I couldn't pass up a bargain like that, could I?
5. Good evening out with friends, lots of laughter and wicked stories of our pasts. We're a rowdy bunch, one day we'll get thrown out
Sweet dreams0 -
Hello, thanks for good wishes...still coughing ,still spluttering and still off work! daytime telly is dire over here (as is evening telly but more so!)
Pleasures of last few days:
1.Saw a lovely GP, who sorted out a few issues whilst I was there....get my money's worth as I have to pay!
2.Finally being able to get the high calorie/high protein drink my husband prefers. It has been out of stock for weeks. To see his face yesterday when I told him it was in stock was lovely. We are at a low place just now with treatment. I can't hug him as I have this chest infection and he has been told to stay out my way (as much as we can living in same house!) He has 7 more radiotherapy sessions to go which are probably the worst.....this time next week will be almost over. We have to pay for these drinks as not available on prescription as they would be in UK. However, we do get a discount through Cancer centre but they are still expensive.
3.Our house back home is up for rent! Pleeeeeease someone rent it! We took it off the market as after 2 years it still hadn't sold and house prices have dropped to a level we couldn't afford to sell at. I have enjoyed looking at the online photos.....even though I know what it looks like!
4.We have so much work to do in our garden but peeking through are some jonquils, iris and the most stumming camelia has just flowered next to the driveway.
5.Being off makes me appreciate my work! I see how much of the day it fills for me and has proved a source of routine & normality past 3 months I have needed. Might be different if I was off doing something useful rather than lolling about but I do enjoy my work (most days!)
6.Enjoying simple foods like beans on toast & soup & bread.
Have a lovely day x0 -
Hi
I haven't ever posted on here but read it daily so thought I would join in!
My 5 for yesterday -
1. Stuck to meal plan for 8th day running - had cheese & bacon pasta bake, doubled the amount of pasta that the recipe stated to be used to S-T-R-E-T-C-H it a bit further which was good as my sister popped in so stayed for tea and there is still a portion left for hubbys dinner today!
2. Harvested blackcurrents, raspberries & strawberries from garden - barely any but still a massive pleasure picking them! Also discovered teeny tiny beans on our plants & despite the weather 'most' of the veg is doing OK-ish!
3. Wrote a letter to my sisters boyfriend who has gone back to afghan for 3 months after a two week break at home for R&R. It is a pleasure because despite my letters often being boring I know he really appreciates them. I just hope & pray he stays safe out there!!
4. Watching my 2.5yo son snuggle up to his help for heroes bear named 'Nosey' that sisters boyfriend bought for him on his R&R 'to keep him company whist he went away'. Brought a tear to my eye.
5. Since stopping spending, becoming focused on 'the important things in life' & despite being a SAHM I have saved over £49 towards a house deposit (in 8 days!). Having my diary on the MFW board has really kept me focused. More important than that I am the happiest I have ever been & my marriage is stronger than ever!
Feeling really blessed today. I will update todays 5 later on tonight.
Stacey x2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.
Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(0 -
Hello Stacey, lovely to have you here
I really need to get organised for next year's growing, I want blackcurrants, raspberries & strawberries too!! My garden is a mess, I blame the weather, my health, errrr, the formation of the stars, anything really!!

Afternoon all.
I thought I'd get in early with my pleasures as I've already got five (probably more) for today.
1) Watching a young fox - not much past cub-hood - in my garden. He'll be better off when he realises he's meant to hunt pigeons, not run away from them! :rotfl:
2) An unexpected afternoon off work. I had a card through my door yesterday saying they were trying to deliver a parcel, and would try again today - I was about to re-arrange it for tomorrow, for which I'd have to pay a supplement (), when I thought to ask if I could have this afternoon off at short notice, and the answer was yes. :j (From which you may guess correctly that my line manager is currently on holiday, and I asked her deputy instead.)
3) Received my parcel - it's not the present from my DSis as I'd hoped, but is the Polish book I won from the MSE newsletter. :j I'm looking forward to getting started - if my signature suddenly changes to something involving lots of z's and w's, you know why!
4) A very nice freebie from my veg box company - a big tub of cream of tomato soup, which will do me nicely for dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow. :money:
5) Making a loaf of cheese and onion bread to go with it, as I noticed this morning that the block of cheese in the fridge is starting to grow fur.
6) Collected up the seeds from the seedheads I've been drying - it's quite satisfying watching them all shaking loose, somehow. (That might just be me.)
7) Received the station cafe discount card I ordered. :money: I'm amazed it's turned up, actually, as most of my post seems to be going missing at the moment - I emailed RM with a complaint today as it's getting ridiculous.
8) Spoke to the local Co-op on the phone and I've got £28 of vouchers on their way to me - if they ever turn up, anyway...
9) Spoke to my DM on the phone briefly.
10) Possibly pub quiz tonight, although it depends on the weather - if it keeps raining like this I might decide to stay at home where it's dry!
Stacey - what nice pleasures.I've had a lousy crop of soft fruit this year, too - I think I got about a dozen blackcurrants off my plant.
CCP so I'm not wierd just because I don't like chocolate very much. Phew, glad I'm not the only one
I can't stand the stuff - the smell makes me, particularly hot chocolate - if anyone makes it in the office kitchen I just have to leave, and quickly!
mhags - get well now, and your DH too!
VJsmum - I'm glad your DD enjoyed her prom. Your description of her reminds me of a girl I knew at school - I always admired her dress sense so much, as even at that age she knew exactly what looked good on her.
VJsmum / Chicken - one of my school reports is still occasionally quoted in my family - it was along the lines of "she will be happier when she realises it isn't possible for a person to learn everything". I haven't yet, which might be why I enjoy pub quizzes so much.
Re wearing purple - I know what you all mean (I know the poem), but I certainly won't be wearing purple at any point soon - it's the corporate colour where I work, so I'll be glad to get away from a world where everything's purple! :eek:Back after a very long break!0 -
Pleasures for today so far...
1) Bigger son off to school happily.
2) Homemade soup for lunch.
3) Changed bunkbeds, did 2 loads of washing and had a tidy up.
4) Texts from OH. :-)
5) Went to see smaller son's paediatrician and he was lovely as always.
6) My sister just popped in.
7) OH is on his way. :-)0 -
Kittikins - All my soft fruit canes were from either poundland or wilkinsons - its been two years since they were planted and they have definately done better this year. For such a small outlay however I am happy with anything!
CCP - I think we are lucky as they have survived the jungle of weeds surrounding them and we have just realised that this is also fooling the birds into thinking they are barren!
My five for today -
1. Went to see my parents today. Lovely to see them and its such a pleasure to see how happy their grandchildren make them. My dad has quite severe MS and it gives him a few hours of happiness when they come over. My son gets very excited when he is allowed to sit on grampys lap for a ride around the garden in the wheelchair!
2. Feeling blessed that my cousin has decided to pass on her daughters clothes to me for use with my daughter. I now have 95% of the clothes I will need in sizes from 3-6 months up to 2-3 years all for £60. Although now I need to find somewhere to store 6 black sacks of clothes!
3. Seeing the joy on my sons face when he helped granny dig up her £land potatoes - everytime he found a lovely golden potato in the compost he would shriek & hold it above his head so grampy could see. We enjoyed the new potatoes with baked beans and ham for dinner.
4. Being thankful that we have in the past experienced extreme hardship (husbands debts of £40k+ & an IVA), that we have come through it & that I did accountancy training. All of this has made me able to budget for everything and despite being a SAHM with a hubby earning an average income, still find money to save every month for our goal of home ownership.
5. Realising that yes this rain is pretty miserable and yes I wish we had some sunshine but sisters boyfriend so did not want to go back to afghan, to the swealtering heat of the desert & all that the place entails. We are very lucky to be at home rain or not.
6. Reminding myself that although being a SAHM is very much more hard work and stress than I have ever experienced before, I am so blessed to have this option available to me. Weirdly budgeting hard and not spending money has enhanced this massively, I have thought of so many fun & frugal things we can do & do them we shall!
7. My mums very old Jack Russell (I think he is 15), pulling through a much needed operation today despite a heart murmur and many other health complaints.
8. That look on my sons face as he runs to the front door yelling 'daddy's home'.
I think that's all for today - I hope everyone has a lovely Wednesday evening & look forward to hearing everyone elses 'thankful for's'.

1. some raspberries and alpine strawbs from the garden
2. naughty treat---biscuits
3. started to tidy and organise the big barn. lots to take to the tip and lots to freecycle. I feel better when things are straight and tidy
4. saw various lovely birds in the hedge
5. met an old neighbour in the village -havent seen her for a while-nice chat and an invite to visit her at her new place soon.0
