Evening all
Not much to report as it's been a very quiet day but will see how many I can find -
1. Spicy fruity porridge for breakfast, ran out of mixed fruit so I chopped up some dried apricots to put in with the cinnamon, and it was yummy. I'm going to do that again
2. Brought the cage in from the shed and settled Bert in there with a bone and a new chewy when I went out. The neighbours said he still barked all the time but it doesn't bother them, they just turn the radio up. They know he's here for three weeks, let's see how tolerant they are at the end of the first one! If it keeps on I'll take him to DD when we go to the gym and she'll cage him in her kitchen for the hour we're out, she hasn't got neighbours to worry about in the mornings.
3. Good session at gym even though I was in a hurry to get through the routine so I could go home to the dog again
4. The rain, which saved me having to water this evening
5. Took a third photo of my Peace rose, the first was in bud, the second just opening, today's when it's fully open and it's absolutely beautiful. When the lounge has been redecorated I'll have them enlarged and framed.
Sleep tight0 -
Sparrer, thank you for mentioning your Peace rose. My mum would have been 88 today and her Peace rosebush was her special favourite. I agree with you, it's the most beautiful, beautiful flower.
1. Buying a lovely bunch of off white carnations 'for Mum'. Her ashes are 300 miles away, so I buy flowers for the house to remember her on her birthday.
2. Brunch with a friend - we'd arranged that I should go across town to her place but I had a disturbed night's sleep and overslept. Luckily I woke in time to get there but no time to eat. She is good company and we had some amusing tales to swap.
3. Friend had ordered some Avon bits via me and loved what she had. Phew. I wasn't looking forward to getting it back to Avon if she didn't.
4. A couple of YS bargains and being able to use a coupon in the discount chemists, to get a real bargain.
5. Another friend was worried about his elderly female cat who is ill (arthritis) and behaving oddly (weeing on the settee, in the exact spot he sits on). Getting her to take her painkiller and anti -inflammatory tablets is a nightmare, but I found a cheap pill giver gizmo on Am*zon for him to try. I've sent it to him tonight.
Any advice on why she should choose his chair to wee on is most welcome. She is 14, has been checked by the vet, no wee infections as far as we know and this is new behaviour. The settee covers are a nightmare to remove too...
She is a solo cat, though his youngest son owns a cat, but there are no family members or pets at home. Her temper is rather short, but she can be loving when she chooses.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -

It is lovely isn't it? My sister passed away at the age of 16 and our parents had a Peace rose planted at the crematorium in her memory. Since then wherever I've lived I've had one in the garden. It was 52 years ago so that's a lot of Peace roses! The off white carnations sound pretty
I can't think why the cat would wee on that spot, unless she just feels comfortable with the smell of her owner (not suggesting he smells), but he could put a plastic sheet (a black sack?) over the spot and cover that with a throw, or cotton sheeting, something quick and easy to wash, which would save the sofa covers.

Skint -sounds as if you are in the right frame of mind for a change x
Mcculloch- I am not a vet , but sounds like renal failure ?? Our old cat used to wee in the dogs water bowl when his kidneys were giving up, the balancing act was a sight to behold and the dog was mortified as she thought she had done it ( The dog was paranoid anyway and if she broke wind she would run out of the room).I think Sparrers ideas are great btw.
VJsmsum - welcome back . The "slapper" bit made me laugh :rotfl:A true slapper would have the phone number written on her decolletage in marker pen
Have a good day all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -

Frith - Hugs, hope you manage to get some advice to help DS
CCP - Ouch, hope your head feels better today
Pleasures for yesterday,
1. Lovely cooked breakfast with DD to set us up for the day
2. Small pile of ironing done before left the house which means the ironing basket is empty
3. Wimbledon was fab. Great seats in Centre Court and friends tell me we were on the telly several times.
4. Wonderful SIL also gave us a free programme so saved another £8
5. Easy journey home and even though we were home late it wasn't as bad as I'd expected.
Hugs to all who need them0 -

Evening. 5 pleasures ... here goes:
1. Torch relay day for us today, and it wasn't as bad getting out of town as I thought it was going to be. The roads hadn't quite been closed off when I went through, bonus.
2. Have been so busy I haven't eaten, apart from a handful of dried fruit.
3. Got a bit of sorting out done.
4. Tea is a quick one tonight - soup, from a can, hot.
5. Being home, I guess.
Night all.

2. The files I examined were ok - better than I had envisaged.
3 .Did a Reverbe and found a penny.
4.Ready meal for tea as tired.
5. OH is out tonight so a bit of time to myself
6. Hens laid 7 eggs today - thats one heck of an omelette:)
Have a good evening all!:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Evening all,
Was on 24 hour babysitting duty at the weekend, which was pretty knackering, so haven't got round to logging on for the last couple of days.
Sparrer - that's a lovely idea with the Peace rose. I might try to do something similar for my sister, although rather hampered by lack of garden at the moment!
Some pleasures for the last few days:
1. The girls generally behaved better than I expected them to. The younger two slept through the night (although the five year old did come down every two hours with "tummy ache"). Older two got themselves dressed of their own accord in the morning which is almost unheard of!
2. Went with the girls and their grandma to kids' workshop at a nearby museum on Sunday, where they had fun doing various cutting and sticking-type activities.
3. Went for a walk with a friend on Sun evening and had a very refreshing homemade lemonade at a Japanese restaurant.
4. Two year old's kindergarten was closed yesterday and she was very well behaved and cute at home with me. Quite happy to have a bit of time to myself this morning though!
5. Made 'stuffed monkeys' (no monkeys were harmed in the making of these biscuits...;)) for the first time, inspired by a vintage recipes blog. Pretty tasty, although think I will tweak the recipe a little if I make them again.
6. Homemade egg mayo sandwiches for lunch today - a nice taste of home.
Hope you all have a pleasant evening.0 -
Evening all.
I'm struggling a bit for pleasures today: I've still got a nasty headache (not surprisingly), I've had a bad day at work, and the posh strawberry yoghurt I was looking forward to at lunchtime turned out to have gone off.
Hey ho:
1) Abandoning all pretence of it being summer and having my favourite winter breakfast, porridge with spiced plums.
2) One of our contractors mentioning something I did to help him out some years ago - so long ago that I'd forgotten the incident, although he clearly hadn't.
3) Admiring my DM's photos of the swallows nesting in her stable.
4) Stodgy comfort food for dinner - burgers, beans and potato croquettes.
5) Accompanied by a glass of wine - probably a bad idea when I've got a headache, but it's been open since the weekend and I'd hate to watch it go off.
Wow, I found five! Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0
