TILAMS, I agree with you about Armed Forces Day, it is probably one day too many and this is speaking as an ex-Army wife, ex- SSAFA caseworker and aunt by marriage of a soldier, who is an Iraq vet. and has done Afghan x 2.
I looked in the list of Falklands fallen, and found your friend's brother's name. I shall think of him this November too.
For me, Remembrance Day IS Armed Forces Day.
(Your friend's nickname made me smile, though.)Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
I cant agree I dont think we do enough to honour our servicemen.

We'll agree to disagree, OT then - my concern is that in November, people will say 'Oh they are always banging on about the Forces - I gave some money to that collection in June - I'm getting sick of it ... ' etc. I wouldn't want over-familiarity to breed contempt.
I have given a lot of money over the years to SSAFA Forces Help, Combat Stress, Help the Heroes and the Legion.
I offer as much support as I can, but I am well aware that not all share this view.
'Armed Forces Day' cards are available and I feel that this day smacks somewhat of an American commercialised import.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Happy Saturday Everyone!!
It's been one heck of a weekbut in a good way!
Mine for the past few days
1. Fundraising jewellery stuff for EMW is still going welland we have lots of new members on the FB fundraising site (in response to a promised prize draw for members
) It's quite hard work keeping on top of it, but I keep thinking of the ponies it's helping
2. A.m.azing, magical session with wise old therapist this week. I can't go into too much detail on here (yet) but...wow
3. Found Oldie half way up the muck heap this morning, digging up said muckheap. Pondered what on earth she was doing, then remembered the half bag of bran I'd buried up there. Manky creature must have had a whiff of it. Her free range time came to an abrupt end and she was escorted to her field
4. Just had a cuppa tea and some of my little homemade cakes with Mr and Mrs Ponycarer- and an overdue catch up
5. Home alone tonight. Much as I love OH, I do like being able to go to bed early with a trashy DVD, my chocolate stash and a cuppa tea!
Hugs to anyone in need xx0 -
Rightyo, some pleasures to get this back on track.
1. Listening to a CD of the band I'm going to see tonight and remembering just how very good they are.
2. Some great bargains at Heron Foods, including a pound of lambs' liver for a quid, I love this and can't always get it. And a quid, wow!
3. My books have come ..some bought, some from the Amazon Vine review programme. I had to tear myself away from one.
4. Putting freshly ironed summer clothes in the wardrobe that have been in storage for 8 months.
5. Dodged the showers on the trike again, though it has rained heavily since. But not on me.
6. Been accepted on another consumer trial. Can't argue with free products.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
