OK here I am with today's mundane pleasures:-
1. Not having to go out in the slithery wet stuff.
2. House all clean and tidy with DH's help.
3. Braised red cabbage in slow cooker.
4. Four more cards made this afternoon. I'm working with sunny yellow papers and accessories and it really cheers up a dull day.
5. Yummy cottage pie made with some of an ancient bolognaise stashed away in the freezer served with some mashed swede (also from freezer) with above red cabbage, leaving two portions to freeze away. Should help if the price/availability of veggies is 'iffy' after the bad weather.

hiya all
mine for today
1 Ds1 eating his breakfast without being reminded (it was my cinnamon and raisen bread ) so we left for school on time today
2 Loads of kids in toddler group this morning and a little girl kept giving me hugs and a little boy made a handprint painting for me. so sweet.
3 Cleaning the bathroom totally. i scrubbed the whole room even behind the pipes (its not that big but did take me 2 hours!!) and now it is sparkling! :T
4 I made bread rolls today and they were really nice. i am really enjoying using my breadmaker but i just keep finding stuff to make in it every day so not sure if its saving me money and i think it could be undoing all my hard work last year losing weight!!
5 Got my mini sewing machine in the post today so i am going to spend the evening making a sock monkey with it - cant wait! :j
Have a good evening all.0 -
Evening all,
I hope all is well with you.
Hmm... my pleasures...
1) having a quick lunch with a friend from work who has moved divisions and now works out of Manchester. She was just visiting today so it was really good to catch up with her wedding plans etc
2) Sending someone much more senior than me to buy me a roll of soft mints this afternoon. I also gave him money for a choccie for himself so it wasn't purely selfless.
3) Getting some "constructive" feedback on a questionnaire that I am going to be sending out shortly. The feedback was that it was basically rubbish, but happily the person telling me that has offered to spend a few hours with me to rewrite it and make it really good. So I am very grateful for that.
4) Buying a £20 hair cut, blowdry and shiatsu head massage on Lastminute.com. What a bargain!
5) Receiving some photo's of my friend in Swaziland kids. They are very cute.
Get better all you snuffly bods... and stay well all you non-snuffly peeps.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
What a lovely day, I'm feeling all positive and ready for life today
1. Bought more Bran$ton beans at Mr T's today, at 89p for 4, I just can't resist...DD thinks I'm a bit crazy, but she won't think that when she realises that she CAN have beans whenever she wants, well sort of
2. Have stuck to the diet easily today and am feeling very positive about being slim and lovely by the summer at the latest. I want to feel really good about myself by my birthday at the end of April, I want to turn 39 in style!
3. Picked DD up from school myself today as it was slippery but not too horrendous by this afternoon, she was sooooooo thrilled to see me
4. DD and I had fun with her pottery wheel this evening, a child's version that I bought her for Christmas. We've made two VERY wonky pots, but I know my mum will love her one which she is going to be presented with for her birthday, and DD's one looks like it'll be a "keeper" too.
5. Lovely message from DD's teacher in her reading book about how beautifully she's reads.
6. Am up to date with washing, shame about the ironing mountain that I have to climb, but maybe tomorrow, I've got a good book to read tonight instead!0 -
No school again today! They've been once this year :-S Bit of a strange day as I'm still ill (feeling better but I've never had such a sore throat) and smaller son had a paediatricians appointment again. "Autistic traits" are the order of the day so he's going to meet some more professionals. He wasn't at his best in the office of the paeditrician, not looking up from his gameboy - one of the 3 words he spoke was a swear word... Its the swearing and the COMPLETE obsession with food that I don't like. You can't say "Look, see how nearly done the tea is, I've just got to strain the potatoes" - it doesn't work. He just panics and eats anything he can find. In a cafe, when there is nothing to distract him, he will shovel in sugar from the bowl or eat sachets of tomato sauce.
Anyway, 5 for today!
1) Another snow day! The igloo is now quite something :-)
2) Phoned my solicitor and feel a bit more organised now.
3) Felt slightly better.
4) Saw the paediatrician who was as nice and ever and will try and progress things (takes months, apparently).
5) Big tea. Did a roast chicken (some left for a curry tomorrow), veg, Yorkshire pudding and some successful roast potatoes.
6) About to sit in front of the fire watching Kevin McLeod (sp?) followed by C Big Brother.
Hope everyone else is OK.

Hi everyone!
My 5 for today:
1. Getting rid of a job at work that has been bugging me, and feeling in control of my workload.
2. Signing in to a new dating website to find loads of messages waiting for me - one guy seems especially nice...
3. Arranging a curry for next week.
4. Finishing the first chapter of my new short story - it needs a lot more work! - and getting lots more positive feedback for the last one.
5. Lots of laughs with work colleague today. We support each other with the fact that we're both unhappy at work - but light is at the end of bouth our tunnels!Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Evening all,
Hope those that have been under the weather are feeling better.
My pleasures for today are:
1. Sticking to the plan of walking either to or from work. Walked home tonight and the paths are clearing really well just icy in a few places.
2. We normally have take away on Thursday as everyone is a various activities but tonight I got organised and made a big pan of Sausage, Veg and Pasta Soup which was yummy.
3. While getting the soup ready for dinner prepared some extra veg and added some rubber chicken to it for the freezer. Just need to add some stock to it for another pan of soup.
4. YS cream doughnut in Mr.T, I really must get back into healthy eating
5. Sat with OH watching Vicar of Dibley, I love this show0 -
Hi All,
Acey, your son sounds v young. Well done for getting some help with his 'autistic traits'. The earlier you develop a network of support and 'strategies for coping' for both him and you, the better. :A
My 5 for today
1. Ski socks! They have kept my feet warm and toasty for the last two weeks! Not the same pair obviously!
2. Going out for a meal tonight with DH for our Anniversary. It was a really posh restaurant, but we had a voucher! When he booked it his work colleagues commented that their wives would go mad if they paid for a meal with a discount voucher, but DH said that I would kill him if he booked a meal without one!! How well he knows me after 18 years!:A
3. Going out for a meal without the childen, and not wearing the ski socks!
4. I moved the bird table in front of the window and put out some bread. No birds yet, but the daft dog has been sitting under it all afternoon waiting for the bread to drop into her mouth!
5. Nipped into Oxfam this morning on the way back from posting another EBay sale, (Yay), and found 4 pairs of jeans ( DH, me and DS1 x 2) and a Dr Who top for DS2. All for £17. (Sadly the pair for me does not fit so will have to go back, but everyone else v pleased). :j
Back to school tomorrow......I could get used to this 2 day week lark;)
Night x0 -
I didn't get back on here yesterday evening so some from last night and some from today this time.
Sons' school being open again and we made it in, through the snow. All of their teachers made it in from near and far and they did normal lessons.
Stopping to offer DS2's music teacher a lift when we spotted him walking into town in the snow. That soon stopped DS1's loud complaints about me taking them into school in such atricious weather! The way I see it, if the school opens and the teachers make the effort to get in, parents ought to if it's safe.
Having a lovely phonecall from one of my interviewers from last Friday. I'd talked myself out of the job in the interview acknowledging a relative weakness and saying if the job was 60% doing that then I wasn't the right person and the role wasn't one that I'd enjoy anyway because my strengths and enthusiasm is more weighted towards other areas of the job description. However, she would love to have me on the team in another particular role if she could find any way to add to that team and would I be happy for her to look into this and come back to me. (The job of my dreams as it happens.) I was thrilled and although I know there's little chance of anything coming to fruition it was a boost to knnow that she feels I'm up to that role in an organisation of that kind.
Doing a 'French polish' manicure on my right hand, to match the experimental one I did on the left earlier in the week, ready for today's interview.
This morning - managing to get my hair and makeup looking really good (for me!) and feeling confident ready for today's interview. No 'task', test or presentation this time so I was relatively relaxed.
Feeling I'd done my very best in the interview and coming out feeling positive. I was the first of four interviewees so it was hard to guage how I measured up to the others. I'd hoped I might have heard something this afternoon but nothing yet so my hopes are fading - although Ihaven't gone as far as starting the next application form.
Making a passable job of stitching DS1's trousers - 2 pairs in fact. He'd got through the term so far with only one pair intact but they 'accidentally split' at school today .
I'll leave it there. I'm off to bed now, hoping to find out the job outcome sooner rather than later tomorrow.0 -
Hi everyone, just a flying visit today:
1 - looking forward to a weekend at the coast starting tomorrow
2 - an empty flat so have enjoyed pottering around listening to Radio 4 without the TV blaring out
3 - treating myself to an M&S 'Fuller Longer' meal for dinner - don't normally do ready meals but it was £1 off and these are not normal domestic circumstance and it turned out to be very tasty with a rocket salad
4 - comforting words from a friend when getting a bit overwhelmed about moving
5- enjoying a long bath and painting my toes
Happy weekend everyone xxx:beer:0
